...oh my god I realized why Batman made it a spear. When Christ died, his side was pierced by the _Spear_ of Longinus. *It's another fucking Christ reference.*
Yes. Also, when Jesse Eisenberg was trying to quote the Omnipotence paradox, he got it wrong. What he said was, "If God is all powerful, He cannot be all good. If He is all good, he cannot be all powerful." The actual paradox is "If God is all powerful, can he make a rock that He himself cannot lift?" Omnipotence was a measure of how God can have infinite powers, not whether he is infinite in His morality. The implication was His morality or lack thereof was based on His strength. What Jesse Eisenberg is saying in his lines is establishing a link between morality and power that he himself doesn't believe and the two aren't even connected in this movie anyways. The core theme of this entire movie is wrong because of Jesse Eisenberg's reddit atheism. This movie doesn't even get their strawman of religion right!
Superman was created with specifically the intention of using Christ and Moses as analogies. This isn't Snyder, it's the created of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.
Jolly Ranchers were so beloved on Krypton they mined their planet for their pure goodness to the point Krypton exploded. As a result, Clark enjoyed several years of life on a farm as a jolly (although somewhat moody) rancher. Across the stars, some things never change.
Fun Fact: Despite being the main character, Superman has less lines then Lex Luthor and Lois Lane in this film. He's practically a minor character when you account for his screen time too.
Man Poor Henry Cavill. Imagine getting the role of Superman, and being the one to start this new cinematic universe only to be shafted to the side 2nd movie in.
He’s not even a character, he’s a fucking prop. He has no agency, no motivation, no character, and is used how the plot and other characters want him to be.

I remember a quote from a podcast that said "Every DC movie is a train wreck, but it's a different kind of train wreck each time". I think that's why the movies can be so hard to rank, they are all terrible but in a different way.
It really depends on what bothers the viewer the most. Some people think an annoying movie is worse and some people think that a boring movie is worse. For me an annoying movie will always be more bad than a boring movie. A movie being boring could just be a person not getting invested into the movie. A movie being annoying is the greatest sin for cinema because you go to watch a movie for entertainment but instead you get angry and annoyed doing the complete opposite of what movies should do.

I don't think any other version of Lex Luther would go straight to blowing up the court. He would use his money to get an all star legal team against Superman and bring in other witnesses like the guy in wheelchair as well as others who probably blame Superman for what happened in Metropolis. Even if Louis managed to show those Africans were killed using Lexcorp bullets, I imagine Lex Luther could claim ignorance or shift the blame. Plus there is still an argument that there are other instances in which Superman's actions have lead to the deaths or injury of others. An actual court case of Superman playing out in this movie could have been interesting to see.
Hell he could have brought Bruce Wayne in as a witness, he was there, wouldn't that have been an interesting scene, Batman's alter ego testifying against Sups... A way he could have orchestrated the fight would be to do all that but then pay off the judge to let superman go, pushing Batman to enact his own form of justice where the "proper" routes had failed in his eyes. Boom 2 min, we just wrote a better script than BvS... What Garbijoge.
Snyder seems to like journalism too much to ever imply that a corporate suit could manipulate public opnion through the press. How he reconciles his persistent pessimism with this type of idealism is beyond me.

Of course, they're grown men wearing costumes, which is inherently silly, which means nothing has to make sense. That's what they teach in writing logic 101, I think.
At the same time he has Lex Luther exist and the deepest philosophy he has is turning a painting upside down. I am so curious how this man perceives conversation and intellect to have written this film.
@Patricio That was such a bizarre thing to hear from him. Snyder may be a hack, but he clearly _is_ passionate about his films, so it’s baffling that he’d want to devalue it like that. I almost wonder if there’s more to the quote.

Gal Gadot/Diana in BvS -- They literally make her Catwoman. From the overly mysterious nature, to her theft and outsmarting/inconveniencing Bruce, to the way she talks to him with all the quips, to the dance, to the "Don't worry, I was just messing with you, I'm on the good side," to the "I'll come help you defeat the bad guys in the end." The whole character is Anne Hathaway from Nolan's TDKR. The only difference is Diana isn't a thief/cat-burglar.
But as we all know, the only true Catwoman is Julie Newmar, Lee Merryweather, or Ertha Kitt. And I didn't need moulded plastic to improve my physique! Pure. West.
How would she even know his alien name? He’s only referred to as Superman publicly, as far as I recall. And even if it was out there, it doesn’t really make sense to use it over his alias when everyone calls him that.
I mean...we hear and see behind the scenes that these studios do have think-tanks and lore experts that help build a story in the writers' room and on set. Star Wars, MCU, WB/DCEU, James Bond, Game of Thrones, name it. But its like they're all on drugs, or work in their sleep or something... I mean then again, we've heard of reshoots and rewrites and studio meddling, and Zack Snyder personally admits he can't take men in costumes seriously, so f*ck it, I'll take ten things I like from ten comics at random and force it all into one movie. And then there's that hilarious clip of JJ Abrams wiping the floor with the lore guys by saying, "Yeah, but its not cool enough. I'm just not feeling it." And Rian Johnson's "Yeah, but people expect that. So I'm just gonna do the opposite, for drama and subversion." Again, no, I don't want a shot for shot recreation, but there's fan-service and rule of cool and your own vision and take; and then there's desecrating the source material like its the bane of creativity, and compromising on quality by forcing things to make sense with contrived rubbish and ret-conning.

19:00 The Ultimate Cut actually adds a plot hole to the already asinine intro by having the CIA monitoring the entire event of Lex's goons killing all the Africans. Yet the CIA never brings that up later in the film.
I'm still stuck on how Lois isn't being questioned as a Witness in the incident. Weren't there people who could put her at the scene while not having a vested interest in covering up the story (I would assume the wives of the people killed want their husband's killer caught, whether or not it's specifically Superman)? Does the general public (since the government already has more context as you mentioned) know Superman has anything to do with Lois Lane specifically to like suggest a conflict of interest or something? What if she testifies "these people were killed with fire arms and conventional weapons"? Even if they can't find the Lex bullets, the people would still have bullet wounds, and they could demonstrate that Superman's eye lasers cut through rather than ignite to explain the body burnings.
I have never heard people mention Wonder Woman's sword could actually cut Doomsday and I am confused why I never do. This is a massive plot oversight by everyone who worked on the movie and I can say 100% Superman died for nothing. Not gonna weep for someone who simps for a woman so hard he would betray humanity and join literally the evilest person in the universe to cause immeasurable suffering on planet if she died though.
Someone in the chat said that WW’s sword wouldn’t be able to kill him because he’d instantly heal from any non-Kryptonite-inflicted wound. I have no idea how valid that is but food for thought ig
I’m not sure how relevant it is to the movie, but in the comics Doomsday has ‘reactive adaptation’. Meaning he becomes immune or mutates reactively to the last form of damage he takes. If they really wanted to they could have shown that his cut from WW’s sword Insta-heals and further cuts aren’t possible. But this movie.... you know.
44:30 Actually Prisoners have zero tolerance for pedos and child abusers and will actively target those types among their ranks. That type of crime is seen as the worst even for murderers. And there are some instances of prisoners marking pedos to identify them for easy picking. Though Batman branding bad guys is absolutely against character and not even Punisher has pulled a stunt like that before.
@@rascoehunter3608 which, honestly, is less... morally troubling in a lot of ways. The Punisher takes full responsibility for what he does, agree with it or not he owns what he is. branding someone to let someone else do the actual dirty work is basically refusing to take responsibility for your actions.
One of the worst sins of BvS is that it is almost a greatest hits of ruining potential. It fucks up batman vs superman by removing all the context of the fight. In the comics Batman and Superman were friends for years before their fight, in this they are strangers. It ruins Doomsday, one of the few villians that can fight the entire Justice League. It ruins the death of Superman, since the Justice League doesn't even exist yet we don't get to see them mourn his death. It ruins Lex Luthor by making on the most calculating and dangerous villians a wacky pseudo riddler-esque villian.
You do realize that there are many versions of the Batman and Superman fights? In some they don't know each other. Why is your appeal to some comics even relevant?
That’s the one thing about fictional characters. You can say that Batman is the world’s greatest detective or that Lex Luthor is the most intelligent and ruthless man on the planet, but ultimately both of them will only be as smart as the writer of the story… and we do know that Zack Snyder is fascinated by shiny and jingly things. He reveres Alan Moore’s Watchmen because there’s a lot of blood and superheroes are having sex… 😒

Bruce is obsessed with the mission, that makes sense. Superman is actively trying to be a normal human. It's a good character contrast, and there's lots of room to explore the differences between the two heroes' philosophy and humanity. All you need to do is put them in a movie together so you can... oh. Right.
Yeah but that is because Batman was going crazy becuase it was a monkey's paw type thing that gave him the powers. Just like it made Clark normal but extremely prone to death.

And yet, he's interesting and unfazed, unafraid and unthreatened by Alien God Superman because he knows Clark's "weakness" is his faith in humanity, which is what he exploits. Capital-O might be right about it being one of the worst. The central conflict being resolved by Superman saying "Martha" and Batman immediately stops trying to kill him despite having so much motivation up to that point. And not to mention Lex thinks that superman is too dangerous to be kept alive so he somehow creates a mindless unstoppable supermonster, directly contradicting his own motivation in the hardest way conceivable. Was there anything *that* bad in the others?
Indeed. While WW has its share of problems, I do think, up until Ares suits up, it's the better film. (edit: and even after, it has still has decent scenes with Chris Pine)
Speaking of "hardest way conceivable": Not only does Batman stop trying to kill Superman, he tells his mum he is a FRIEND of his less than an hour later. On second thought it wasn't the hardest turnaround possible... Batman could have kissed Superman and then told his mother he is a "special" friend of his.
"Come on. These two having a super serious conversation while wearing silly costumes? It's unrealistic and silly." "Martha!" "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME!?" But as for motivation it is very weird you have the opening where Bruce sees all the destruction Superman accidently caused and it is never brought up again. Not during the trial and not during their fight where they actually exchange some words.

1:33:45 That's actually kind of close. Lex Luthor feels threatened by Superman. Lex came from nothing and came to own Metropolis. Hell, Lex built most of Metropolis. In the comics, Lex is an unparalleled genuis, wealthy beyond reason, and wields unquestionable authority and respect in every aspect of civilized life in the United States. Then this meathead (compared to him, anyway) Superman comes out of nowhere and suddenly the crowd has a new favorite. Superman saves Metropolis, the world even, all the time, and for all the hard work, the scheming, the wealth, the power, Superman can match Lex's impact by just showing up. Just existing. It drives Lex mad to think about it, and he's an unparalleled genuis, so he's always thinking. Lex's driving force is his egotism and the desire to see Superman humbled before his magnificence. This movie's Lex? Fuck if I know, I think he's got a bit of that but it mainly seems like daddy issues and childhood neglect.
Neglect ? Really ? His father was a drunk who beat him that's abuse not neglect also in the movie he's not afraid of him exactly but he just hates him because he is the representation of god in his eyes and he wants to prove that he is better than god and he also wants provi that if god is all powerful then he can't be all good
if batman allowed himself to use lethal force, then there's no reason for him not to use guns exactly like a cop or regular vigilante, other than it's cool looking for him to do karate shit. it's necessary to his character to be against lethal force, unless you change his gear to include lethal weapons and turn him into a punisher type dude. otherwise his gear is a contradiction to his character.
Imagine how PISSED Jason Todd in the DCEU would be. In the normal DC universe, he might be angry at Bruce because Bruce decided not to kill the Joker but it makes sense because that’s Bruce’s no-killing rule. In this universe, Bruce kills people so Jason Todd would hate Bruce to the core once he finds out that Bruce spared the Joker while being ok with killing the other criminals.
@@williamcronshaw5262 There's another problem: there is a name for an older Batman that's willing to use guns and kill people, and that name is *_Thomas_* Wayne. A key part of the Flashpoint storyline was that, in the ruined timeline, Bruce died in the alley while Thomas and Martha lived, resulting in Thomas becoming a broken version of Batman and Martha becoming The Joker. The DCEU was already planning a Flashpoint film around the time of BvS (and they're still trying to make it), and Snyder chose to make his Bruce Wayne indistinguishable from Thomas Wayne.
To be fair, the movie makes it pretty clear that Batman actually gets plenty of coverage from the newspapers so Clark actually comes off as pretty dumb when he says "why is nobody covering this story."

What’s funny is that on the Blu-ray cover of the extended cut Wonder Woman is actually in front of Batman and Superman. It makes her look like the star of the movie vs the two titular characters of the movie.
Honestly with the title “Batman V Superman” I would have actually loved it if the movie was more like a court case where Batman challenges Superman on his ideologies, and while he doesn’t agree with everything he stands for, he learns that Superman is an honest person who believes in the best of humanity. I mean it would be a more interesting and unique story than whatever we got now.
Yes, but you see, superhero fans only character about violent and over the top action scenes and don't have the patience to sit through character development or serious character driven conflict. Duh.

A thought occurs: assuming that Doomsday has around the mass of an elephant at most, and that Superman is left floating in low-Gs after the explosion, wouldn't a nuclear explosion at that angle send them both soaring further away from Earth, banishing Doomsday at least into space for the foreseeable future? Whether by Clark or by nuke, he's gone, and the rest of the story didn't need to happen. Instead, Doomsday somehow plummets back to Earth without Clark, barely hurt after a moment to shed his skin. But no, Zack's a great writer, guys. The Snyder cut will redeem this entire "universe".
44:30 So I'm gonna push back a little bit on the idea of criminals killing other, worse criminals being dumb. In real life, it's actually a documented, if somewhat lesser know, phenomenon where criminals convicted of particularly heinous crimes (rape, spree killing, hate crimes, human trafficking), especially against "vulnerable" persons, are treated much more harshly, by both prison staff and other inmates. It's important to remember, and I am by no means a criminal sympathizer here, that not everybody in prison is morally bankrupt. Lots of people make bad decisions out of desperation, and/or while under negative social influences (and drugs), and others turn over a new leaf while imprisoned. The short version is, SOME inmates have moral standards, and they have, in the past, organized the murders of other inmates they consider to be worse than themselves.
I remember in 2 animated series of how Bruce knows Clark's identity. First is he place a small tracker on the cape when they met in a night club by misdirecting Supe's attention . Second is Batman tracking Supe's supersonic speed center of path which is the Daily Planet. And n this version, he does not do any detective research of Clark's identity.
You'd think Batman would do the most basic of research into this... Not Zacks batman though, too busy blowing guys the fuck away with Bat Grenades to detect anything.

So much more mature.
As a Christian, I will speak on behalf of my people when I say “This movies “Christian” themes are stupid as hell”. The movie is clearly making fun of Christianity, so the fact that it uses Christian iconography and pretends to hold all this reverence is disgusting. People who aren’t religious will find it hamfisted and dumb, and people who are will find it insulting and dumb. Also as a fan of Superman this movie is the single biggest waste of potential since... well this came out before the squeal trilogy or GOT season 8, so it was just the biggest waste of potential period. The Superman v. Batman comics that inspired this movie was written by a man who hated Superman, the death of Superman and Doomsday were the penultimate Comics to ever exist and it’s just wasted on a third act of this shlock! Next movie they waste the return of Superman and so we have spent the best story line in the DC as a footnote in two of the worst superhero movies of all time!
I totally agree, as one who also ascribes to the Christian faith, I didn’t think I could roll my eyes any harder during their allusions. Absolutely ridiculous.
ironically Snyder's a pretty openly religious dude, so i don't think he's intentionally mocking it, this is just what happens when a devout Christian stays 12 years old forever and is then given a bottomless budget to make an action movie...

Am I the only one that think Zack's Batmans blatant disregard for other people's life is MUCH worse than the negligence with Superman fighting Zod? Plus it seemed like DC should have had more films to build up and establish the world. They leaped right near Age of Ultron/Civil War without establishing any of the characters or world.
Addressing the second point first, absolutely, blowing your universes "whole party team up to fight big bad comic villain and superman fucking dies" on the SECOND film in the series is retarded. Ruins the whole thing. As for the first point, no I think Batman being a psychopath is not worse than super 911 2: electric boogaloo, the revengence. At most assuming like a thousand people died every night by Batman's hands for 20 years, he wouldn't even come close to Superman's death count in one day. If you want to talk about fucking up his character then sure, I think best Batman is murder-less Batman. But the idea that Batman willfully doing something wrong to criminals (Punisher style) being worse then Superman willfully allowing the greatest disaster in human history to happen out of pure negligence doesn't sit right with me. It's like a person pushing an old lady down the stairs vs watching and allowing 100,000 old ladies fall in front of a train and doing nothing despite being able to save them. Its about scale. I feel like there is a critical mass of collateral damage that a character can accrue before just "sorry I didn't mean for it to happen like this... :(" Just doesn't cut it. Yeah BM is a piece of shit in this movie, but God Damn does SM have blood on his hands. Like Batman believes that he is making the world a better place by killing these guys in an 'Ends justify the Means' kind of way, but superman has just such a flagrant disregard for people's lives in Man of Stism that if he was actually charged, Manslaughter would not begin to describe it.
@@greatclubsandwich5612 I get why that wouldn’t sit well with you, but Batman isn’t supposed to be the hero of the movie. And for the man of steal I can agree that Zack got lost in the fighting but if he really did try to prevent them from going into big cities, Zod would just come back. It’s clear that he’s just trying to push superman to doing it and will stop at nothing, killing as many civilians as possible. And superman isn’t necessarily fine with getting those people killed as he tries atoning for it in the court room (at least that’s what I picked up from it, please correct me if I’m wrong) and has his opportunity quite literally blown out of his reach.
@@ihatecrowbars3572 So firstly I never tried to insinuate Batman as a hero in BVS. As I said he is a murderous piece of shit in BVS working on a consequentialist 'Punisher' style of vigilantism. I don't like how he is portrayed in the film. I think his methods are too brutal and his actions disqualify him as a "Hero". The problem is I think the exact same thing can be said for Superman in the Snyderverse, only worse than Batman. You see Batman at least purposely sets out to do terrible things in the name of some sense of greater good. This makes him more of an anti hero, not good, but also not unredeemably evil. Batman has always walked the line between good and evil... even when he doesn't kill he still severely maims and injures people without any authority or consequence. Therefore the step from hero to antihero is not that large. Superman on the other hand purposely sets out to do good things but due to his gross negligence and incompetency ends up committing the greatest act in negligent manslaughter history has ever seen! His actions lead to the direct deaths of millions of people and yet he faces no consequences and feels no guilt for it. Like I said, Batman at his worse killing 1000 people nightly for 20 years wouldn't even reach Superman's death toll in one day. Now I'm not sure when the last time you saw MoS was but Clark could easily have taken the aliens out of populated areas. the whole "They would just come back" is just straight wrong. The aliens were after Clark specifically, they followed him wherever he went and only engaged with humans when provoked (soldiers, planes, tanks etc...). They didn't just rush head long into the city and start wiping out people at random, they were after Clark, and had Clark simply flown to an open field, they would have followed. Even Zod in the final fight could have been taken to a civilian free zone (The harbor for example) had Clark literally done anything beside rush straight at him. Superman also doesn't go to the court in BVS to 'atone' for anything. He only goes to defend himself from the accusations of immolating some terrorists. He didn't show any signs of guilt from what happened in in MoS in BVS, and in MoS he shows no guilt or shame for the destruction he wrought on Metropolis... He kissed Louis in the midst of a graveyard filled with bodies and death, showed no effort in helping to find survivors or clean up, and by the end showed no guilt when the military wanted to keep tabs on him, self confident in his own righteousness, not even a 'sorry' utters from his lips. Not that any amount of 'Sorry's would make up for the millions of people he got killed, but still. So not only is this such a far removed position from where Superman's character normally sits, its scale is much MUCH more destructive to the actual world (literally) than Batman's. So my stance will not change. I don't care if Batman went from a vigilante hero kneecapping criminals, to a vigilante antihero killing criminals... its not worse than Superman going from a respectable paragon of virtue and heroism, who always does his best, sees the good in people, and cares deeply about his actions and their effects on peoples lives, to an apathetic symbol of destruction and incompetency who brings danger to civilians haphazardly, and whos blunderous mistakes will casually wipe out entire cities, yet will feel no remorse nor guilt so long as he gets some of that Louis poon tang. MoS is garbage.
You know that bad argument of, "And you think you could've done any better?" that gets thrown in response to criticism? I don't know about Batman vs Superman as a whole, but for the fight scene at least, this would be one of the few times I'd respond to that with, "Yeah! Give me the director's chair and I'll give you a better Batman vs Superman fight!" Also, for Batman being the one to rescue Martha, it might've made sense if they had it that Batman or Lois pointed out that Batman can actually break into the place *_stealthily_* and thus avoid them killing her, since Superman is a lot of things but stealthy isn't one of them, but that would also require *Batman then breaking in stealthily,* and instead they went with him brute-forcing his way in because of course they did.
@@childhoodisthatyou9869 Two things: 1. What does that have to do with my comment? That is completely unrelated to either I or the previous reply said, so why are you saying that as a reply rather than a separate comment? 2. The case would be wrong. @@childhoodisthatyou9869 I mean, if the case can be made, why didn’t you? But as to the original post : when the answer to ‘could you have done better’ is a resounding yes pretty much no matter whom you’re talking to... yeah, it’s not really a defense, is it?
@@petriew2018 Pretty much. I mean, "Could you have done any better?" is almost never a good defense anyways, and it's obviously just meant to accuse the criticizer of being arrogant and not worth listening to, but yeah; it's an especially bad defense when the answer is the answer is a resounding "yes."
I feel like Batman is better when not killing to show he goes farther and does more work because he can't take the easy way out. Batman has enough gear to fight people with guns and the skills to win in the end and as soon as he starts killing he will lose public support if we were realistic. The problem isn't just he is killing its that he's just a murderer in many of these and doesn't care if they were hired security or etc etc when moving them down. He can't clean up thr city through taking easy ways out. Batman isn't doing this because legally he can for Christ's sake he's killing people because he's indifferent and that makes him worthless unless we see him get to the point. If he's forced to kill who cares but if he's not then he's really not the hero. Even when its tough not to and when he honestly wants to, he also knows he won't be able to come back when he makes the choice (not being forced to like you guys had a whole debate about which was just stupid Batman is also the greatest detective so if anyone could get out I believe he could) to do so (also not like Batwomen potrayed it). If he kills he loses his V card. Vigilante I mean but there's also the fact about how not only will he slip but ... If batman goes full killing he should be using guns like his edgy dad in Flashpoint but this batman is lame because not only can he not choose between either, he is also really violent when he doesn't have to be. On a meta level he also slips away from being a character worth respecting and being the character people like in the first place. Being rich might even play a part in how he had the opportunity to use his resources to not have to kill when others who lost and didn't have his situation might have gone down a dark path and ended up as criminals. And if someone starts killing people because Batman does it that just creates chaos and vigilantes with hero complexes getting hurt or getting others hurt. I think it also sends a message he could always kill them if he wanted but he can take on fully armed men with just his fists leading more to the fear element and imply the rest yourself, but it just works better than boring dumbass murderer batman.
Well I understand, but it's showing that something happened so dramatically to him and I think that was the point of this version and based off of TDKR. I'm not disagreeing completely and I respect your opinion, but that's just my twke
@@user-sd4le2tk1j more dramatic then the life shaking event that instilled into him his virtues of not killing? You know Batman didn't even kill Joker after he crippled Batgirl and tortured Jason Todd right? ... and also not killing people who don't seem to be criminals? If Batman gave up killed out of anger (probably the Joker) he would retire if anything. The way Batman is as we know him would be on his knees broken and saying he isn't fit before some kind of redemption arc or passing on the cape. If something happened it still doesn't make sense in this movie or in character. None of these characters work ... we have asshole God complex superman, war crime rapist Woman, and old grumpy and defeated batman who has lost pretty much everything interesting or smart about him.
@@cameronroy2129 Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there an "Old Man Batman" story (I feel like it relates to TDK Returns but I have not read much myself) or several that establish Batman would hang up his cape (or at least pass to a successor) if he reached a point where he could not maintain his code? This as compared to Batman becoming ambivalent to the idea of making decisions that consciously result in death (so I count the "branding" as much as a life taken with his tools/fighting) I think the example given was Batman's health deteriorating to the point that he nearly has a heart attack or something on the job and has to use a gun to avoid dying. I forget if the scenario actually ended with a kill, but the fact that he even had to entertain the notion essentially convinced him "I'm not able to do this 'right' anymore".
@@papershadow I can't say for sure because I haven't read that but even if it's flawed that's still the ideology that makes Batman ... well .... Batman. You can find it at the core of many of his stories like even if "son of batman" is meh in places I think there's this line that goes "it's not about what's easy, it's about doing whats right because it's right and that's the only reason you need" or something when he has to explain to the poorly potrayed son character in that movie. They of course could contradict this still because he murders some man bats with explosives later not because Batman would do that but because the writing isn't great or else the story would pick up on it. So again Batman wouldn't really get to the murder everyone while they don't pose that much if a threat kind of deal and superman wouldn't be an asshole with a God complex who believes might makes right. Yes sometimes these ideologies can be childish but thats the only thing really making DC characters different than the rest is their complex morality and how heroes need to go above and beyond to do what's right. There's also the Red Hood talk that shows not only is Batman able to go beyond normal humans in a fight even a former Robin (so he doesn't need to use guns to win a fight) and he still won't kill Joker no matter how much it hurts him and others. There's shitty parts of Batman comics as well like how they try to set up all Batmans romantic ventures with his sidekicks because they run out of ideas and its really gross. Batman totally has superpowers if we are honest just not like the other meta humans, he has the peak of what a human mind and body can reach and mastery over so many different fields. To the point compared to a normal human he might as well be super but he achieved it through human means so he's still human.
No surprise that Batman would just stop caring for killing those people. 20 years of no sign of lower crime rate. Any guy would just give up, especially after most of those around him dying to criminals. And Batman was never supposed to be the hero in this movie, in case you actually thought that lol
The Chat was the best thing I have experienced about this movie, Martha stuff was just gold, thanks everyone and Meme Repository killed it again with edits.
I hope you guy talk about how Lex’s plan means he’s a master emotional manipulator but doesn’t realize that his plan would be undone if someone says Martha. He’s takes “everything” into account except for their mommies, one who is in danger DURING said plan.
"I bet your parents taught you that you mean something " seems like all the defenders of the Martha scene forget that line when they start saying Batman realizes Superman has a mother lol
So you see, Batman lives in Gothic New york, and Superman lives in Art-deco New york. It's about as bad as trying to reconcile the 30 heroes that live in NYC on the marvel universe.
Let me count them for you Spider-Man the fantastic four daredevil heroes for hire, punisher, moon knight dr strange, avengers , defenders Jessica Jones
So I like how the movie just glosses over the CIA having aerial thermal footage of their man being shot before they planned to bomb that village so they should also have had footage of Lex’s Mercenaries killing the other people and driving off as they don’t launch the missiles until after that. Also that the movie suggests the problem wasn’t that the terrorists died but it was instead that Superman might have done the killing and that the CIA didn’t get to bomb them and potential witnesses. This movie’s inciting incident is so dumb, they should’ve just had revenge for the Metropolis Apocalypse Incident be it.
The scary thing is Superman murders people easily and feels he's above humans and yet Lois still goes out with him and is never affected by this because how awful the romance is in this. He's a asshole with a God complex and she's a basic damsel in distress. This might be worse than the amazing spiderman or spiderman far from home romance for me ... maybe not amazing spiderman
Superman's method of foreplay with Lois: "And not just the men...but the woman, and the children too. They're like animals, so I slaughtered them like animals!" 😆
Me during the whole movie: Superman tell him what’s wrong. Superman don’t threaten him. Batman just talk to him. Superman don’t break his car. Batman use your words. NOT THOSE WORDS! Superman just tell him lex has your mo- Oh Well that was dumb
Same here. I remember commenting on the UA-cam video “Goddamnit, what the hell is stopping Clark from saying: Bruce, lex has my mother, please help me.
Superman does try to urge Bruce that there’s no time and it just goes in one bat ear and out the other. And is constantly just using gadgets left and right to try and wear him down. It’s obvious that he won’t listen and doesn’t have time to play the waiting game and decides to show him that it wasn’t a battle worth going through by flying him into a building and saying he’d be dead if he wanted him dead. Plus it’s his mother on the line. At least that’s how I see it
So let me get this straight, lexs whole plan hinges on using Martha as bait to get Superman to fight but when Superman goes back to lex he calls, hoping to hear Martha was killed while Supermans next to him? As soon as Supes hears his moms dead that’s feee reign to attack lex. What was the plan there?
Also, to my knowledge, the reason doomsday is supposed to be so strong is that he can regenerate back from death and his body is adaptive, making him effectively immune to whatever killed him. So shouldn't the zodby have just stood up like a week or so later with partial immunity to kryptonite and immunity to sharp pointy objects? Might have wanted to dump him into space again before ya impaled him just to make sure.
Tyro moonhopper, if you’re reading this: your comment in the premiere was that WW’s sword can cut, but not kill him. Tell me, if it can “cut” off Doomsday’s arm off, why can it not “cut” off Doomsday’s head? And please dear god don’t say that [the Ogre’s] neck muscles could withstand WW’s sword
So WB wanted a shared universe like the MCU, but didn’t want to put in the time. The irony is that if they had of put the work in they would have caught up with Marvel by now and probably have a better product. Don’t do shortcuts kids.
I broke my ankle about a month before BvS came out, and seeing BvS in the theater was my first time leaving the house (outside of doctor visits and surgery -- I had to get seven screws in my foot) since the injury...

I don't think any other version of Lex Luther would go straight to blowing up the court. He would use his money to get an all star legal team against Superman and bring in other witnesses like the guy in wheelchair as well as others who probably blame Superman for what happened in Metropolis. Hell he could have brought Bruce Wayne in as a witness, he was there, wouldn't that have been an interesting scene, Batman's alter ego testifying against Sups...
How about the CIA withholds that information to turn the public against Superman, like in the Cadmus arc of Justice League Unlimited.

But this movie.... you know.

I remember a comic where Bruce got Superman's powers, and he was saving people and stopping criminals almost 24/7.
Yeah I can see that, but see that's the thing... He actually tries.

Regardless, this was supposed to be the big selling point for the dceu as a whole, so failing at this point is pretty consequential.
It's unrealistic and silly."
"Martha!"

Neglect ? Really ? His father was a drunk who beat him that's abuse not neglect also in the movie he's not afraid of him exactly but he just hates him because he is the representation of god in his eyes and he wants to prove that he is better than god and he also wants provi that if god is all powerful then he can't be all good
@@teo-pc8yx
That’s really fucking stupid of a motivation.
if batman allowed himself to use lethal force, then there's no reason for him not to use guns exactly like a cop or regular vigilante, other than it's cool looking for him to do karate shit. it's necessary to his character to be against lethal force, unless you change his gear to include lethal weapons and turn him into a punisher type dude. otherwise his gear is a contradiction to his character.
Not just that but, if Batman is now willing to kill, then what prevented The Joker from being his first victim?
And if you make Batman a killer then there’s literally no reason why his villians like the joker are still alive in this universe.
There's another problem with that. A Batman that's fine with killing people and using guns is basically The Punisher in a cowl.

That would explain why Marvel is still the winner by a wide margin even at its worst.
Mate, Snyder literally said that he couldn't take "grown men dressed in costumes" seriously. That's why he has more Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent instead of Batman and Superman even though that's the name of the bloody movie.
Also, "I can't take grown men in costumes seriously". Meanwhile, you've got X-Men movies, Deadpool movies, Kick-ass movies, Hellboy movies, V for Vendetta... Even Nolan found a way to negate that (for the most part).

It’s heavily implied that even he doesn’t agree with himself but keeps pushing that mentality of the lives of criminals mean little to nothing in the grand scheme of things.
When DC did it better animated...twice.
You know that bad argument of, "And you think you could've done any better?" that gets thrown in response to criticism? I don't know about Batman vs Superman as a whole, but for the fight scene at least, this would be one of the few times I'd respond to that with, "Yeah! Give me the director's chair and I'll give you a better Batman vs Superman fight!"
Also, for Batman being the one to rescue Martha, it might've made sense if they had it that Batman or Lois pointed out that Batman can actually break into the place *_stealthily_* and thus avoid them killing her, since Superman is a lot of things but stealthy isn't one of them, but that would also require *Batman then breaking in stealthily,* and instead they went with him brute-forcing his way in because of course they did.

*The case could be made that Mauler is the worst movie reviewer on UA-cam and I dont say that lighty.*
@@childhoodisthatyou9869 Two things:
1. What does that have to do with my comment? That is completely unrelated to either I or the previous reply said, so why are you saying that as a reply rather than a separate comment?
2. The case would be wrong. Regardless of your opinion on MauLer as a movie reviewer, there are definitely far worse ones on UA-cam.
That first response is definitely the far more important one to answer, so please don't just respond to the second one.
Where was this movie made? On a *farm?!?*
Yes.
The editor has an amazing voice. We need him in an Efap episode about the dceu eventually.
Well I have a video for you!
Press F for Jimmy Olsen, forgotten like a wet fart.
This as compared to Batman becoming ambivalent to the idea of making decisions that consciously result in death (so I count the "branding" as much as a life taken with his tools/fighting)
I think the example given was Batman's health deteriorating to the point that he nearly has a heart attack or something on the job and has to use a gun to avoid dying.
This movie is just “that bit is kinda cool but how we got here is fucking shite”
Damn, I never even thought about that myself. Now it makes even less sense
I’m honestly surprised that none of them even pointed out how insane Lex’s plan was. That is one of the worst elements in the entire DCEU
@@samuelscalise9686 we know Anna and J would.
Tbh the romance in TASM is the most functional part.
Superman's method of foreplay with Lois: "And not just the men...but the woman, and the children too. They're like animals, so I slaughtered them like animals!" 😆
DCEU Superman is basically how Lex Luthor sees him.

@@marcthomas5949 WB: EFAP HAD ITS CHANCE!
I have been a fan of DC Comics and Marvel Comics for over 20 years, and these movies are horrific perversions of my childhood heroes!
Me during the whole movie: Superman tell him what’s wrong. Superman don’t threaten him. Batman just talk to him. Superman don’t break his car. Batman use your words. NOT THOSE WORDS! Superman just tell him lex has your mo-
Oh
Well that was dumb
Same here.
I remember commenting on the UA-cam video
“Goddamnit, what the hell is stopping Clark from saying: Bruce, lex has my mother, please help me.
At least that’s how I see it
My wife and I both could not stop laughing after the Martha thing.

Imagine being ginger guy in the first movie.
“You’re coming back for the second one.”
“Oh my god, really??”
Lmao fuckin died
Also, to my knowledge, the reason doomsday is supposed to be so strong is that he can regenerate back from death and his body is adaptive, making him effectively immune to whatever killed him. So shouldn't the zodby have just stood up like a week or so later with partial immunity to kryptonite and immunity to sharp pointy objects? Might have wanted to dump him into space again before ya impaled him just to make sure.
He essentially can't be "killed" by the same thing twice because of how quickly he evolved

"seriously, elastagirl, i cant get her out of my head"
same.
Hey Now! DD has been Daredevil's nickname since 1967! Call Doomsday something else, like... OCG. "Overblown Computer generation".
LOL, thank you! That was a super-edit! (pardon the pun). Well done! 👏
Where did you train your neck muscles..? ON A FARM?
So WB wanted a shared universe like the MCU, but didn’t want to put in the time. The irony is that if they had of put the work in they would have caught up with Marvel by now and probably have a better product. Don’t do shortcuts kids.
I always thought I'd live to hear Elastagirl say "take a bucket of piss and call it Grandma's peach tea."
I broke my ankle about a month before BvS came out, and seeing BvS in the theater was my first time leaving the house (outside of doctor visits and surgery -- I had to get seven screws in my foot) since the injury... I slapped my forehead so many times during this screening that I worried I would give myself a concussion... Needless to say... a couple more months later (May I think...) Civil War came out and I went and saw it (down to only one crutch at that point) and I remember being SO happy seeing a good superhero film finally!
I hope your ankle is fine now
@@Wahba. Thanks! Other than some lasting arthritis issues due to the scar tissue, I'm able to walk, run, and jump again. It's certainly in better shape than the DCEU!!
I thought this would be a joke about how BvS taught you to walk again by making you exit the theater. In seriousness though good to hear you enjoyed a better film and have recovered from that injury
