I bought a 2006 Honda Civic Coupe with 130,000 miles on it in 2016 I have 260k and an alternator is only thing I've replaced on my R18 engine... These R18s never get any love either they're one of the best engines Honda ever put you drive it slow and quiet u can get 35 mpg or you can floor the pedal and rev it out the 6700 RPM the 5-speed 1.8 L can hit 60 in 7.7 seconds with 140 HP 128 lb to torque and it responds immediately and very well to bolt ons a muffler delete high performance air filter cold air intake and some good rubber these cars are wonderful fun-to-drive daily drivers they have some power to but you really have to rev it out and this is the last true high-revving Honda Civics b r 18 is rev happy it does not like low RPMs and it has kind of like a fake VTech people say but it's a noticeable Improvement in power output when you floor it past a certain RPM
You're also going to need to check the valve lash, probably new tensioner and idler pulley, and start thinking about a timing chain now, cause either the timing chain tensioner, vtc actuator, or the chain itself is going to go bad.
The k20 is one of the most legendary Motors at Honda ever put in the Civic you can beat the fuck out of this motor and beat the fuck out of it some more loan it to your brother let him drive it and then his girl who doesn't know how to drive a stick shift drive it then go Redline it and wake up start her up the next day and go to work
When you do that valve cover gasket it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check the valve lash. Honda wants it checked/ adjusted at 100k. The compliance bushings in the front control arms are about 20 a piece from Honda and will make the car ride like new when done.
@peakay2002 it won't affect your ride quality. It will affect steering response. At least that's what I remember... sold my Si almost 2 years ago. I miss it sometimes.
Wrong. Honda manual transmissions are awesome, it's the automatics that have issues. Fortunately all Honda Civic SI models only have manual transmissions. Honda understands the market that wants to buy these cars unlike Toyota. 2020 Toyota Supra is automatic only.
depends who owned the car before you bought it... too many ricer high school kids buy these k20 civics nowadays...that's why manuals can also be bad to buy used, because they are easier to mess up and destroy in the hands of some ricer kid dumping the clutch, messing up the synchros, and downshifting without rev matching, burning the clutch to oblivion, 8k rpm launches dump clutched....trust me it happens a lot more than you think....otherwise these 6 speed transmissions should still be smooth over 200k miles without grinds or problems at all. these are fantastic manual gearboxes, its just the majority of them were owned by kids who just got their license and abused the shit out of these cars. sometimes buying an automatic is more reliable, because it is physically impossible for some ricer kid to destroy it since it shifts itself.
U forgot to check the engine block for coolent leak..steering resorvoir u didn't check those components are components that could leak from diff places..he needs hub bearing in the back wheel..the suspension u need a pry bar to correctly check the suspension not just a visual .. didn't check the oil or transmission fluid..and the engine cover
A mechanic will usually charge you $25 to $50 for an inspection depending upon how thorough of a job you want. A visual inspection of a vehicle like this mechanic did will run $25 to $30.
LOL at the Mischief clip ua-cam.com/video/Perji21p-Zs/v-deo.html I had 712s on my 03 Mustang, it's amazing I survived. Nice job on the video, I'll need to drive this soon.
Damn dude. Is this a good car or not. He’s tearing this car down makes it sound worth then it really is. Most of the things he’s pointing out are normal tear and wear. Most cars would have this tear and wear.
Its just our findings. Josh really enjoyed the Civic Si and recommended it to many people. Unsurprisingly, he did sell it for another E46 M3 but was really thinking of keeping it around.
@@val13c59 Great car to own, if you find one 09-11 it’ll last well over 200k miles with no problems at all, just simple maintenance like oil changes, rotors, brakes, serpentine belt, etc. I’ve own my 07 for over a year now and haven’t given me any problems, had a 09 (which I regret selling) and it was mint, sold it in less than a day of posting it, they are great little fun cars, reliable, quick, and cheapish, if you find a great deal on one you wouldn’t regret it.
Going to get a Civic Si tomorrow. Praying all goes well after the inspection!
Bro we need more mechanics like this!
I never expect before purchase and then the regret sets in and I have PTSD
i write expect when i mean inspect and then i feel bad about my run on sentences
Also might want to check then solenoid strainer, and the rocker arm actuator screen.

There was a recall on the valve cover, its due to overspray at the factory. Also, the airbags.

motegi mr7 gah i miss those rims lmao. had em on my 97
It looks like someone wet sanded the headlights and didn't bother to clean off the residue that ran down the bumper.
Just bought a 2011 civic SI with 123k miles
I have the same year.

Moog part #k200799
Rsx type s lower control arm bushings. They are spherical and fit perfectly. Nice upgrade at $25 each.
@@ryanfulkman cool tip. Is ride quality affected? It’s already too stiff for me where I drive it (horrible city roads!

5 1/2 quarts of oil 😂

hes beatin around the bush. hes basically sayin You Bought A Lemon Bud, ill be here when ya need me

How reliable are these cars? Planning to buy the same, with around the same mileage
All depends how they were taken car of. I would take a high mileage but maintained good over a low mileage where they neglected it.
Valve cover residue haha that my folks is a leaking valve cover
Only thing he didn't check was the Transmission, and that tends to be a problem on the stick shift civics.
It depends on the year and the automatics have been a bigger issue.
Wrong. Honda manual transmissions are awesome, it's the automatics that have issues. Fortunately all Honda Civic SI models only have manual transmissions. Honda understands the market that wants to buy these cars unlike Toyota. 2020 Toyota Supra is automatic only.
Sorry but If it’s not a manual Honda I wouldn’t consider purchasing it for 1 second 😂
There have been numerous issues with this generations manual transmission, they tend to grind on the 3rd gear

My abs vsa break lights come on after I drive it for 45 min or so .anyone else?what's wrong ?

That's not a problem on the si just the normal civic. The cars use totally different engines
These don’t have steering reservoirs… it’s EPS. Maybe do some research before telling him what he should’ve done.
On the camera only 😅
How much for an inspection? I want to do a pre purchase inspection for the same car.

The oil leak would probably be because the car is suppose to take 4.5 ( middle of dip stick) to 5 quarts of oil max or you're over filling it
These engines actually do take 5.5q of oil when completely drained
The Civic doesn't even have that new car smell learn out of it yet anything under 150k well taken care of is a baby for a Honda
The questions the camera man asks make me cringe...
I mean the car has 98,000 miles ,anything can happen.
