BIO
I was born August of 1995 in Ohio. I now live in North Carolina. I am a mechanical engineering for a tire company and I have been a professional open-format club / mobile DJ since 2012. I created this UA-cam channel for the purpose of sharing my experiences and knowledge as I tinker and mod my 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Using a q tip might be easier and cleaner than that paint brush.
It’s a Toyota.. reliable, therefore we spend less time in the engine bay, and more time off road.
Haha thought the same thing
I think a q tip would’ve been a better option but the paintbrush is way better than just spraying it lol. Love the vids
Just use a q tip for the holes, much cleaner and easier
Need them struts in my life. That hood is damn heavy. Lol
Got lucky that RedLine is literally in my backyard. Great dudes and a great product.
Hi Rick
Love your videos I grew up as a mechanic my dad owned a Texaco gas station.
I also am a mobile DJ and follow both of your channels . Good stuff as always
You made it look easy tho
Great video
Love your vids bro you keep it real. I'm in the process of buying my tacoma and I have a few of you're vids saved including this one to guide me as I modify my own.
Nice instructional. I installed Spike Indutries struts on mine, get 5 or 6 inches higher than factory rod.
3:08 Note to self when working under the hood of my 🌮 if one install includes under hood lights do it 1st 😂..
For real should have done it 20 mods ago.
So much easier, faster, and less complicated to buy the no-drill hydraulic strut set. I did it in about 10 min with a lot less tools.
👏 Fantastic post as usual Taco Rick! Wow, to me it seems like your reading my mind with what your subscribers (me included) want to see. Fabulous work. Keep it up man. Your content is top notch.
Yo, love watching the vides man!
Definitely need this in my life!
When using a step bit it helps to wrap some masking tape around the step on the bit you want to drill to, to avoid going too far and ending up with a bigger hole than desired. Stretching electrical tape around the bit works even better.
...or just use the correct size bit. This really isnt the situation for a step bit. Just because it works, doesn't make it correct.
U can actually replace the on off swith qoth a pin switch that way it will be automatic when you open the hood
Was gonna look into that
Cool idea! But one of the reasons I bought my taco was I'll never have to open to hood.
Very true. You will be under the hood for mods never maintenance
My only problem with the hood rod is that it should be a bit longer.
Agree
Great job on the hood struts and under hood lighting. To avoid the potential of forgetting to turn off the lights you could use normally open switch. That way when you open the hood the switch contacts would close and send the voltage to the lights. Those switches can be purchased on Amazon. A question. I have just bought a 2019 Toyota Tacoma limited. I know you have the 2020 model. I want to install the bed lights like you put in yours but I don’t believe the wiring is as simple with yours. I’m wondering if the harness connections are also in the 2019 Tacoma. If not I would have to run them the length of the truck and try to find that outside circuit in the fuse compartment. Do you happen to know if the harness is there in the back in the 2019 Tacoma? Thanks! Your videos are amazing! I’m a retired Mechanical Engineer with Caterpillar Tractor.
Good idea.
Cool hood shock mod, But I don’t think I’m ready to do that my truck.
I would recommend using stainless steel metal self threading screws / bolts rather than those pop rivets. Why a company goes to all the trouble to make a quality product and then put some junk in there to assemble it just baffles me. The "nipples" are actually called balls or knuckles that insert into the sockets. Thanks for the video.
Let old fred know if you can find hood insulation pad.👍
I would’ve used a magnetic on and off switch so when I open the hood they automatically come on
Yeah I just used what came in the kit
nice bro 💪🏼
Must have mod AFTER THE WARRANTY IS UP LOL use q tips and similar color, undercoating is terrible for that
Why not just use a pressure switch like whats used for the door? Makes the lights "automatic".
A person could pick one up cheap at a junk yard or even a cheap after market one from a parts store.
It's what we used to do back in the day for door switches when wiring up an alarm system.
.02
Its what came in the kit
@@TacoRick I see. Maybe I missed that part about it being a kit. I take in a lot of tutorials while I work. Cheers
I like your video
Love the struts for the hood
But for the lights why not just use the factory holes in the hood
Too big
@@TacoRick
Lol use bigger rivit
Or self tapping screw
They wouldn't fit in the center hole of the light then
If I may....You could probably have gotten away with grounding the lights to the hood using a couple inches of wire instead of running all that black wire back to the ground stud.
Second, using thinner loom for one wire and dressing it up neater would have made it a much cleaner install....add finding a lighter colored loom would have been even cleaner.
Lastly, switch or not, I would never run a wire that's connected to the battery. Tape (insulate) the end near the termination point, and connect it to the battery LAST.
Instead of rivets why not use aftermarket stainless screws!
These trucks should had already came with the hood struts n lighting people paid thousands for these vehicles & wind up getting less..
i swear i hate the idea of drilling anything metal on a brand new truck, it makes me want to just buy a full set of body panels & whatever i'd drill holes in, encase I wanted to go back.
Que chafa installation hiciste man!!!..
Did a kindergartner wire those lights?
Yeah about 20 years ago.
