I had these hood struts even before my Tacoma came in. Installed for a year and a half and still working perfectly. The Truck should have came with these From the factory.

Just installed these on my 2023 Tacoma yesterday. The ball stud you mentioned in your video is 7/16 hex size, not metric like one would expect, since it threads in a 10M tapped hole. Pulled out my American standard wrench set and the 7/16 fits perfectly.

Hi Rob, I enjoy your videos. I have another tip that I just learned from a fellow mechanic. When in need of a drill stop, slip a socket over the chucked up drill, leaving the length of drill desired. He called it the poor man's drill stop.

Installed mine 6 mos ago. I did file down and respray the sharp edges of the brackets just because... I open my hood 2-3 times a month and so far have had zero issues.

2 1/2 years later still give these 5 stars. No pressure loss in the struts. Still lifts the hood (scoop and deflector) nice and high. No issues with the ground stud. I know you had issues with your cold air intake, but these clear my oem TRD CAI no problem.

One thing I can say is the inner fender peg on passenger side flexes a good amount when you close the hood. Maybe because that strut is long and takes the initial pressure plus new. Still I was kind of surprised. Maybe it will relax some after using it enough. These aren't aftermarket fenders. 🤷

I'm not sure about the extra push on the driver's side strut, just installed them and then I noticed that yours is doing too. had to force the driver's side up to get it to snap in place, I'm not taking them off and we shall see what happens, thanks Rob, the video did make it easy.

Hood struts are the very first mod you should add to a Tacoma that doesn’t come stock with them. I went with a different brand that require drilling, but these seem to be a great option as well. Once you have them installed, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them. That hood is freaking HEAVY.

A little iffy on the double-sided tape. Seems like a good product/mod, but for something as heavy as a hood, can you really rely on the tape?

    • @RobMotive

The tape is really inconsequential. More of a locator for the bracket. The screw is the true mechanical part of the device👍

I have had these installed for about a year and a half and so far not issues with it using the ground bolt location. I haven't noticed mine moves at all. I torqued it down good. Also I installed the MattGecko under hood led light and need to ground it somewhere. Well there is another ground point down inside the fender that you can use.

@@RobMotive the ditch light brackets use the same bolts as those. So probably would leave a gap between the hood and the 3m tape.

Rivet type hardest part is drilling the holes in the right place I used painters tape measure multiple times the tape will give you a place you can see when you mark with a pencil go real slow drilling thr top hole delicate is the name of the game the hoods steel is only about and eighth of and inch once the holes are drilled put the bracket in place place the rivet through the braket in place are sure its right slide the gub over the thin end of the pin squeeze the handle as hard as your can and make sure rhe rivet is in tight against the brakes and the brackets up tight against the metal two rivits four all4 brakes clean up and your done try closing and opening a few times making sure it doesn't get hung up may sound complicated but if you read the directions over and over and there are quite a few u tube videos keep watching until you. Get it only took me and hour and I was done I loved them never felt safe with that dumb stick holding up that heavy hood these things are great for the price they should put them in o.e.m.

I put these on my tacoma and it pushed up the hood on the corner end of the hood near the windshield... pushed it down with some force but it came up again, maybe only a millimeter or 2 but it was pretty noticeable. Took em off and returned em. Gotta love amazon reruns... maybe they had too much pressure?

Note the two lines from the battery. You can also move the ground to the next bolt on the car but when this round stud head fails the ground will remain on the car as the pivot ball will fail first.
