I had these hood struts even before my Tacoma came in. Installed for a year and a half and still working perfectly. The Truck should have came with these From the factory.
Just installed these on my 2023 Tacoma yesterday. The ball stud you mentioned in your video is 7/16 hex size, not metric like one would expect, since it threads in a 10M tapped hole. Pulled out my American standard wrench set and the 7/16 fits perfectly.
Hi Rob, I enjoy your videos. I have another tip that I just learned from a fellow mechanic. When in need of a drill stop, slip a socket over the chucked up drill, leaving the length of drill desired. He called it the poor man's drill stop.
I like it👍👍
Installed mine 6 mos ago. I did file down and respray the sharp edges of the brackets just because... I open my hood 2-3 times a month and so far have had zero issues.
I have the same hood struts rob they're awesome I really didn't want to drill holes and I saw a video of someone installing these so I took a chance ordered them haven't been disappointed at all Had mine for about a year now no complaints
Great to hear. I’ve done the drill and rivet version and like the install of these much more👍
2 1/2 years later still give these 5 stars. No pressure loss in the struts. Still lifts the hood (scoop and deflector) nice and high. No issues with the ground stud. I know you had issues with your cold air intake, but these clear my oem TRD CAI no problem.
Great to hear. Thanks for the info👍
Hey Rob, thanks for the video. I just picked up a 2023 Limited and did these today. Installation was a breeze thanks to your video! 👍🏻👍🏻
Congrats on the new Tacoma! Glad to help👍
Hey Rob, I have the same ones. Love them. A little video tip, keep your camera's shutter speed to around 1/50 of a second and you won't have blurred motion.
Installed these hours ago because of this wonderful video. You made it so simple and easy. They work great and super happy. One small thing: never was able to get the push pin back in place in the pass side trim piece. Love the video and your channel!
Thanks 👍
I've had my 2019 Tacoma off-road now for a week. I've got bad rotator cuff problems, and after seeing your video, I have ordered a set.
They make life much easier 👍
Really like your videos. Lots of palm trees there, you in Florida?
So easy to install. I luv them. Truth be told. I don’t go under my hood but feel safer if and when i or anyone else needs to.
Definitely simple and more secure👍
One thing I can say is the inner fender peg on passenger side flexes a good amount when you close the hood. Maybe because that strut is long and takes the initial pressure plus new. Still I was kind of surprised. Maybe it will relax some after using it enough. These aren't aftermarket fenders. 🤷
Having just replaced the spark plugs in my 2017 last week, I could see where these can get in the way with that maintenance and other types of work...especially on the drivers side!
I figured they’d be in th $200 range, but your link is less the $60 thanks.
Oh yeah, I’m short so I’m glad you pointed out the hood latch as a grab👍
@RobMotive just finished installing these same struts with that same air intake without cutting the filter box. No conflicts at all. Thought you might like to know.
That's great to hear! Of course it's too late for me😬
@RobMotive yeah that sux, but knowing going forward with your platform may come in handy was my thoughts. You are spot on with all your tutorials.
I'm not sure about the extra push on the driver's side strut, just installed them and then I noticed that yours is doing too. had to force the driver's side up to get it to snap in place, I'm not taking them off and we shall see what happens, thanks Rob, the video did make it easy.
Hood struts are the very first mod you should add to a Tacoma that doesn’t come stock with them. I went with a different brand that require drilling, but these seem to be a great option as well. Once you have them installed, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them. That hood is freaking HEAVY.
Definitely one of the first few👍👍
Great video. I installed these on our 2023 Tacoma
Nice👍
Got them for more than a year now, love them.
Great to hear👍
Used the same ones…they are awesome. Thanks for sharing Rob!
Nice👍
I open my hood maybe 2 times a year to change my oil
Thank you SO much for this video. I ordered these struts and installed on my Tacoma yesterday and it’s so great! Rob, you’re awesome and thank you again for your videos! Such a great help to me, a new Tacoma owner.
That’s awesome! Glad to help Stephanie. Thanks for watching 👍
Easy / Peasy and they work great! Yea, that odd ball bolt at the ground caught me off guard too.
Gotta love 'em easy!👍
Nice improvement. It's very simple 👌. Great work, Rob.
Absolutely 👍
SAWEEEEEEEEETTT!!!!! Me gonna buy these!! So glad I watched this , nicely done Rob. It's too good to true, but me gonna get 'em. 😊
Awesome! Best option for struts out there IMO👍
I installed these about a year and a half ago. At first they didn’t seem as strong as others, but then I remembered the Tacoma has the heaviest hood ever. Anyways, they have worked perfectly no issues.
Lol! Great to hear👍👍
Better to have a heavy hood that looks sturdy and not cheap.
I was going to order the first style ( Drilling Required) Not now LOL!! These are cherry. Another great vid Rob.
I'm going to order this for sure!!! Thanks for providing this installation video!!!
Glad to help👍
Nice
Thanks for the great video, installed mine in 20 minutes flat.
Nice! Glad to help👍
Awesome I almost bout the rivet ones. Thanks.
Very cool mod Rob... Thank you
Glad you did this video, I was looking at this same kit but I was questioning whether it was good or not. I’m ordering it now! :)
What happens if you got the 3” lift kit , now it another 2 1/2 “ yer need a step stool
Whaoo looks awesome and not so expensive I’m a check if they fit my 2014 great videos brother, GOD bless
Yes this video is a must. Instructions sucked. Rob made it very simple
Thanks. Glad the video helped👍
Sold! I’ve been waiting for this vid. Thanks Rob
Easy and effective! Can’t beat ‘em👍
Thank you sir I just place my order
Awesome 👍
I'm getting me a pair of them. Thanks Rob
Awesome! 👍
Awesome! I'm in for an order. Thanks for sharing this. I never purchased the Red Line Tuning struts solely based on the fact that I didn't want to drill into my truck for just hood struts. These are a great option. I'm sure the Red Line ones work better, but it beats drilling.
Definitely better than drilling!!👍
Me gustaría saver donde comprarlos o si tienes el link
English please.
fanatic ill get one for mine
Nice add on! Thanks for the tips! However, I did not have to remove that side panel, I just popped off the area closest to the mount area and swiveled it upward for access to the bolt hole. Literally a 10 minute job thanks to your video. 15 min if you drop the passenger side bolt under the wiper fluid reservoir!! ARGHHH!
Lol! Great to hear! Thanks for watching 👍
Excellent videos. Just found your channel. Huge fan channel now. Thanks much!!!
Welcome to the channel Alan and thanks! I really appreciate that 👍👍
Put the same ones on my 2020 Sport. Super easy!! Great product.
Awesome 👍
who makes these?
I was pumped when I saw that you purchased the EXACT same tacoma I have. I am eagerly awaiting more mods, but I am REALLY wanting to see what you do with the headlights. LED bulbs or entire projector? I am waiting on you bud before I do mine. lol.
Lol! They are on the list (replacements), but not near the top😬
I might add the correct torque specs for the hood hinge bolts are 22 foot-lbs
Thanks bro
Hi Rob nice job! Your rig looks great.
Thanks 👍
Like the idea of these, but not sure I'd trust my hands and neck under the hood on a cold New England morning.
Cold might affect them, but I wouldn’t be too worried👍
You can always use the struts to lift the hood and use the rod for a fail safe.
The struts lift the hood too high for the rod to engage.
Great video was very helpful
That will be my first real mod. Thanks for this.
Nice👍👍
Great video thank should be standard equipped. 😮
Oh I have to get these!
Make sure they come with the flat brackets!!
@@RobMotive They should. I used the link you provided for ordering. Thanks for the great video.
A little iffy on the double-sided tape. Seems like a good product/mod, but for something as heavy as a hood, can you really rely on the tape?
The tape is really inconsequential. More of a locator for the bracket. The screw is the true mechanical part of the device👍
Thank you!
Thanks for watching 👍
This was a helpful video. What has been your experience with these struts over time? Thanks -
Thanks. No issues with mine👍
I like them Rob! My only concern is the integrity of the body ground over time. I have seen the way that side will actually torque and move the ground wire when opening and closing. I may give them a try though! Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you, Christa and your followers!
I need to take a closer look at that🤔. Merry Christmas to you guys too🎅
I have had these installed for about a year and a half and so far not issues with it using the ground bolt location. I haven't noticed mine moves at all. I torqued it down good. Also I installed the MattGecko under hood led light and need to ground it somewhere. Well there is another ground point down inside the fender that you can use.
Thanks for the info and tip👍
@@RobMotive yeah man there are a lot of things and so much room under the hood in the the Tacoma. It's like they made the thing to mod.. go figure. When I got the hood light I didn't want to undo to bolt on the strut. Seen another ground bolt a few inches away. Problem solved.
I'm not a fan of having to drill, but I think the other ones that requiring drilling would be better long term. I don't like the mechanics of these...the ones that require drilling have better leverage.
Ordered mine yesterday.
Ordered mine! Thanks !
Awesome 👍
I have the same kind. Works great.
Nice👍
Like it. Easier is better as long as it work right, and it looks like it does.
Absolutely👍
That is awesome video I will do my Tacoma thanks mate
It’s a great solution I think 👍
I think the drill ones are better!
So far I haven't noticed any difference between the two.
Howdy Rob. Cool upgrade. Really nice 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hey Mike. Thanks 👍👍
A little apprehensive about using the chassis ground for a push point
Then you should not install them👍
Awesome. Ty!!
One of the best mods I’ve done.
It’s very practical for sure👍
Amazon is showing 2016 and up, any for 2014?
Rrrrrrrrroberrrtooooo I gotta say, when u got rid of ol bloo and got this one I was like... Really? But man this one is turning out to be awesome lookin 👍🏽👍🏽keep it up 😎
Thanks! She’s coming along😄
I like them very simple
Best kind IMO👍
I'm guessing they will need some modifications if you have ditch light brackets.
Could be? I've never installed ditch lights🤔
@@RobMotive the ditch light brackets use the same bolts as those. So probably would leave a gap between the hood and the 3m tape.
I've had the rivet ones for two years there's and u where easy to install just measure the area multiple times and use pwinters tape so you can see your marks 77
I've had mine for two years makes thing easier and safer I used the reclines r
Rivet type hardest part is drilling the holes in the right place I used painters tape measure multiple times the tape will give you a place you can see when you mark with a pencil go real slow drilling thr top hole delicate is the name of the game the hoods steel is only about and eighth of and inch once the holes are drilled put the bracket in place place the rivet through the braket in place are sure its right slide the gub over the thin end of the pin squeeze the handle as hard as your can and make sure rhe rivet is in tight against the brakes and the brackets up tight against the metal two rivits four all4 brakes clean up and your done try closing and opening a few times making sure it doesn't get hung up may sound complicated but if you read the directions over and over and there are quite a few u tube videos keep watching until you. Get it only took me and hour and I was done I loved them never felt safe with that dumb stick holding up that heavy hood these things are great for the price they should put them in o.e.m.
Would these work on a 2018?
Great video as always. Thanks Rob
I don’t see why not👍
I put these on my tacoma and it pushed up the hood on the corner end of the hood near the windshield... pushed it down with some force but it came up again, maybe only a millimeter or 2 but it was pretty noticeable. Took em off and returned em. Gotta love amazon reruns... maybe they had too much pressure?
Could be🤔
Rob, how are these hood struts still holding up?
They make them for 2nd gen
I like them. Should the negative terminal be disconnected before messing with the ground?
Probably…But I didn’t😬
I did. I wish they used the fuse box stud right next to the ground instead simply because of the torque placed on the ground stud.
Simple and easy.
Best kind👍
Hi Rob. Do these work for a 2006 Tacoma? Thank you
You should check with the vendor to verify.
Rob your killing it love the vids. Toyota needs to hire you to perfect the truck. Just purchase hased a 21 TRD PRO. The small things is what make big things. These struts are awesome. Again why does Toyota have a heavy gage steel hood. Lol 😆
Lol! Email me Toyota !!😂
Really good video
Thanks and thanks for watching 👍
Nice!
Just an FYI...
...Amazon shows these as out of stock with a note saying they don't know when or if they will be back in stock.....Bummer:-(
That’s a bummer. Hopefully supply will improve soon🤔
amazon shows product not available and no new availability date or if there will be. Buber
I'm sure they'll be back👍
Will these fit a 1st gen Tacoma?
does sokietech have struds for a 2014 toyota tacoma
Sweet Mod!
The struts in the link are NOT no drill.
Hi rob I like the hood struts but I don’t know where can I order the hood struts from if you don’t mind can you tell me how to order the hood struts thank you so much sir
Look in the video description 👍
Any updates on the hood struts?
This looked interesting until I read all the negative reviews about deforming the fender over time and stress on the screw that holds the ground wire. That didn’t sound like a good idea to me anyway. Definitely skipping this mod. Not worth damaging my truck
First I’ve ever heard that.
Just placed my order
Awesome 👍
Hey Rob this video is two years old how have the struts held up? Do you still recommend them?
Hey Luis. Just search on the channel. I always post updates on how the mods I’ve installed are doing.
Rob, I have seen some reviewers say that they can see the lower studs that mount to the fenders flex, or even the innner fender metal flex. Have you seen any of that?
I haven’t noticed that. But I suppose it’s possible 🤔
Sold out! Damn too slow! When is Amazon restocking these Rob?
Keep an eye out! Shouldn’t be long🤔
you may have helped the company sell out of these for the Tacoma because they say they are unavailable now
Lol! I’ve heard that😬
What about when your ground bolt shears off? I dont like this design. Looks like its going to be a problem down the road. I think the prop rod will work just fine for me. Cool idea but bad execution by the company.
Never go with a mod you’re not comfortable with. I’m ok with this one👍
Note the two lines from the battery. You can also move the ground to the next bolt on the car but when this round stud head fails the ground will remain on the car as the pivot ball will fail first.
I see no reason why it would fail🤔
Looking for a long term update on the bolt on hood struts, how are they holding up? Still happy with the products?
Never had any issues with them👍
@@RobMotive would you recommend this product? Mahalo
@erickim2025 Sorry Eric…I was thinking of the drill type. I would not recommend these.
@RobMotive OK thanks for correction, you've just confirmed what another owner stated, again mahalo
Great mod! Are u installing the sprint booster from the voodoo onto this new metallic grey
I sure did👍👍
