my 2020 sr sx doesn’t have that switch you used to turn them on and off? how do i remedy this

I got a 21 Tacoma sr acces cab i bought the switch from Toyota and place it in place where i can find the harness inside and bought the cargo lights.my question is how can i have a cargo light in the third brake light. I got the regular 2 wires don't see anything else.

I have an access cab and I did the exact same thing as your video. The light doesn't turn on. 2020 Access cab does not come with a carbo cab light switch underneath the dash. Forums I read , said that they should still work with a lock and unlocking mechanism on the key fob. However. it's a no-go for me. Anyone have any insight?

Super Video - used it and installed the lights in about 10 min like you described. The wires on mine came with an additional clip that clips into the little hole right above the round hole the wiring feeds though. I assume to keep the wiring from moving around. Thank you for a great video.

Thank you Jesse. I installed the bed lights on my 2022 Taco and it helps that you noted only 2 screws to remove the tail light. A different video I watched said to remove all of them. What I like is the lights turn on and off when I unlock the doors and can be manually operated with the bed light switch inside.
What Tacoma did you get? My new SR5 doesn’t have the switch installed and the parts department said that the factory harness is not Pre wire for the bed lights.

i have a new 2021 Tacoma SR5. the lights were easy enough to install. but on the 2021, there is NO switch. You need to purchase the switch approx $70 and you need the light relay.... less that $10. the problem is getting the blank plate out where the new switch goes.
What you mean there’s no switch I have a 2021 Tacoma SR5 and it has the same switch as the one in the video. Could you clarify what switch thank you !

Just did this on a 2021 SR. Exactly the same parts and install. Should also be the same for any model 2016 and later ... in theory.
Great video, but on my 2021 Tacoma that connector, that you connect the bed lights to, has a plug that has to be removed first and then connect the bed light connector.

It’s a trasharoo :) u can find them on amazon.com they run about $60 and honestly love it when I go camping all my trash goes in there so when I take off it’s not inside the truck with me and also for that ;) iam currently filming a video on thst I hope to have it up next Sunday or sooner

I have a 2018 Tacoma and don’t have the knockouts though I’m not against cutting the holes to make them work. Question is on a 2018 will the factory wiring harness have the plugs mor would I have to cut wires?

I wonder if you can tap that wire to install some led rock lights for the bed. You know, instead of running a new harness. I mean, it's going to be the same illumination when I hit that rocker switch...

Just a heads up, if your tail light housing is stuck in there really good do NOT force it. I assume some vehicles will come out easier than others, but pulling straight back and out wont work without busting your clips and possibly bulbs. You'll need to apply force primarily to the top of the tail light assembly, and actually pull out towards the opposite side of the truck bed. There are other videos on how to accomplish this with tight tail lights. Just be careful.
For Tacoma’s this is the way you should do it, possibly for other vehicles yes it’s different but this is for Tacoma owners
Is it possible to add a separate switch so the bed lights go on without the cargo dome light?
16-19 do they still have the plug an play feature just without the slots already cutout?
Just installed my bed lights. But wish you had included 2 things. First, it would have helped big time if I knew how to remove the rear light. Those 2 pins into the rubber grommets caused me some concern. Second, wish you had shown how to disconnect the connectors.
Otherwise, worked the first time.

I think u can add it but with a extra harness :/
Bought my 2022 SR 5 just over a week ago, ordered my lights to put in the bed just days before I got it. Well guess what, I am told that they no longer stub the wire for the lights and my truck doesn’t have the switch either. Instead I have a break light on the back of the cab . So I will have to return the lights.
What is your tacoma is 2020 but an SR model that doesn't have and bed light control switches in the control panel? Is there a way to splice in and use your own switch?
Will this work on a base model, I’d like these lights but mine doesn’t have lights on the third brake light or the switch on dash. It’s a brand new 2020 Tacoma base model
You can make it work but ur gna need to most likely buy the switch and wire harness and run it all the way to the bed because those don’t come pre wired
Jesse- Do you know if that kit will fit in a 2018 model? The kit that the dealer calls for 2018 has to be ran to the dash. Seems senseless to me. Hoping to get lucky. What do you think?
I think for the 2018 you have to cut out the holes and run the wire to the switch if I rmemeber correctly

I have a 2019 TRD Sport........how hard would it be to cut a hole and have this light fit snug??????
If u have a dremel it shouldn’t be hard at all the beds are just composite so a hard plastic
I have an 2020 Access Cab Trd Off Road and mine doesn't have a switch for the rear bed light. Will this still work for me?
It should but you will have to run a harness and switch so it’s just more work
I have a 2020 access cab as well. It doesn't come with the on/off switch on the dash inside the truck. 🤔

Hey Jesse, I was so stocked with this Mod, ordered the kit, install it, but it didn’t work. I have a 2020 TRD 4X4 Sport, and per comments in the tacomaworld forum this mod is not for this particular tacoma version. This is really bad. Any suggestion?
That’s odd it should be because the 2020s should have thst plug in play they might just be defective

what if your trucks not equipped with the squid launcher button?
Note: if you have 2016-2019 you have to cut a hole to fit those LED in the bed liner.
Unless you have a 2020 tacoma it is PLUG AND PLAY! Everything is easy just like in the video.
