- Xbox has announced a significant shakeup for Xbox Game Pass, the company is raising the price, removing Day 1 perks for some of the teirs, and closing down other tiers too.
This is the biggest change to Xbox Game Pass in its history and it's - Ігри
Previous price hike did not see much outrage because it came off recent when Sony did theirs. Now that the ultimate tier cost $20 is a sticking price that a lot of users will evaluate the service.
They REALLY need to add a 1-Year subscription model for this service.
An increase to $20 per month would not look as dire if a 1-year subscription cost the same as the previous price for 12 months. Would also reduce the amount of people hoping in and out of the service each month.
Realistically the price is ok if you have enough time to play a ton of games on Ultimate but most people probably won't be able to finish enough games for $240+ to be worth it. Could still make sense if a whole family games I guess.
@@nickstark8479they had a 1-year plan for the longest time, and I’m not sure if the 1-year of Core/1-month of Ultimate trick still works. It just reeks of corporate greed, I prefer to pay quarterly for my subscriptions (i pay $25 every three months for Hulu for example), but that plan was already $45 every 3 months and I’m not sure if they’re gonna hike that up to $50. I’m a broke college student, I can’t afford that! What happened to “the best deal in gaming”?
If people are gonna cancel over 20 a month then they are mentally ill. Its still cheaper than paying for full priced games. Like physical game collectors are actually slow in the head
I'm still waiting for a family subscription model. We are a large family with multiple Xbox consoles and 3 Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions - family subscriptions are needed. Netflix, Prime, Spotify all allow/have family subs. I'm not sure what Playstation does.

I suspect the vast majority of people who'd be willing to pay 20/month on gamepass ultimate Xcloud game streaming via Firestick would probably already has an Xbox. The high price for cloud streaming (only ult allows this) is probably going to prevent subscriber growth.
They need to find some steaming package for $3-5/month if they want to sell to people who don't already have consoles .... maybe it only has 1/4th of the gaming catalogue, but find some way to lower the price substantially
Because they’ll be adding those Activision games pretty soon, which is a huge content update to the service. They need to justify the cost of that to Microsoft so a price hike is the way to go.
Also the Amazon Fire Stick deal has JUST happened, the majority of users haven’t joined yet but with time they’ll come.
@@bandanna2388 At 20/month its too expensive for the mostly casual gaming audience that doesn't have a Series console but that have a firestick or samsung tv. Most core gamers would likely get a Series console so that 3rd party games can be played, and so that you don't get the latency issues in games that require fast reaction timing. MS needs to offer smaller cheaper Xcloud game streaming packages that aren't hidden behind Gamepass ultimate 20/month, something $3-5/month would appeal to the non-core gaming crowd. Have a CoD only package $5 a month for example.
@@bandanna2388 Not just CoD and the AB back catalog, but the cadence of first party releases will pick up. Then there's 3rd party (day one & otherwise) entrants, and existing titles. People act like only new 1st party games count. Those paying attention convert 3 years of Xbox Live in Game Pass Ultimate and stack another 3 years with rewards points. Somebody has to pay for the service. 😄

Where on earth are you getting that it's the most subscribed service. Sarah bond said GP is currently at 30 million subscribers. Playstation plus is 50+ million subscribers

As for why it all boils down to a 1917 case called dodge v. Ford moter co. Where the judges didn't think their wording through and allowed an interpretation of their ruling to be that investors can sue you for not doing everything to maximise profits and shareholder value.

I've currently got stacked ultimate for 2 more years. But I'm likely not going to keep going, I'd rather make sure I have a library of those games saved or backed up incase they ever delist anything
Same. Microsoft has de-moralized me, to the point, where, though I'm stacked up for 2 more years, it's not worth continuing the subscription afterwards. Especially when they kill off their own profitable studios like Tango. They are untrustworthy, and I'd rather support developers directly by purchasing on Steam or GOG.
Once my 3 years are over will definitely re-evaluate also.

Microsoft will need to use different wording on future game trailers. Instead of saying something like 'Game Pass day 1', they'll need to say something like 'Game Pass Ultimate day 1'.

One of the other reasons to stay with game pass is all of the rewards quests, but I'm not sure if it'll be worth it at all anymore. I've been using up the last of my stacked up converted gold subscription

@@dallasmann7904 yeah before game pass I rarely played games less than at least 4 months old and mostly more than a year and I didn't care for the hype either. Just saying I'm not sure it's worth spending more on my gaming hobby to get into the hype day one is actually worth it and that proposition keeps getting worse and worse as these subscription prices keep rising year over year. People with a liquid budget can't feel it yet, but on a small disability paycheck I'm not too sure it's gonna be worth it for me.

I get it, Microsoft needs to make money, but sadly millions of people like myself can barely afford food, the basic necessities we all need as human beings. Gaming is fun and enjoyable, but can we say it has enough value to justify going up a couple extra $$$ dollars a month? I would say no, the same day they announced a price hike, they announced Cricket 24 coming to Game Pass, i was rolling my eyes like really that's what we are getting? Sure i know the big titles are coming, but delays won't cut it anymore when we are dishing out $20 a month for a service that started out around $11. The economy is going to get much much worse, and hiking up prices doesn't help anyone. Greed has been everywhere in 2024, and this is a sign that the future is very dim.
I live in CAD, I fully expected the price of gold/core to come up to 79.99 or even 89.99, the price of a new game at some point. If they try to pull a straight conversion from USD to CAD at 95-102 a year they can get F*k'd with that. Same if GPU comes up to 27$ a month, without giving us something like 12 months for 180$.
Time to run over to Woot to get a discount on 3month ultimate and stack the codes as much as you can afford.

Switch and GOG especially allow ownership of game libraries.

@Matt-Brannan All comes down to how many games you play each year. Gamepass is still worth it for me atm, but will definitely be rethinking about renewals once my 3 years I have stacked expires.

@@UPhlask I just picked up Valkyria Chronices 4 for Xbox for AU$5 (so ~$3.39 in USD) and it looks new. It did not come with the stickers it originally had in the box, but otherwise you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. This is especially true in Australia because here it's quite uncommon to get a game with shrink wrap even if purchasing new.

I still understood it, though, so... no. That hasn't been an option for almost a year now. Some time ago (I don't remember the date but I can look it up), they changed the ratio so that this wouldn't happen anymore. So, now...
If you buy 12 months of Core, and then buy a one month Ultimate, you would end up with about 8 months of Ultimate instead of 13 months of Ultimate like you used to be able to.
It's so the money you spend is equal to what you get. There is absolute *no savings* by "converting" Core to Ultimate.

The only minor thing he could have changed is 3:2 instead of saying 2-3. He's aware of the new rate, he wasn't asking if it was still 1:1. Secondly, you do still save money compared to buying ultimate normally. In CAD ultimate is 17.99/month. Even if you buy the 3 month cards it's like 50 something; which is ~16 a month. Core 1yr cost 69.99 + cost of 1 month ultimate for the conversion is 87.98, which works out to about 11$ CAD a month for 8 months; a saving of 5-6$ a month.

And you say it hasn’t been an option for almost a year and I did it for my daughter and I literally a few months ago so I’ll just wait and keep an eye out. I know it’s not a 1 to 1 anymore that’s why I said 3-2. Which is still a better deal but I’ll wait to see if there are any deals for core to ultimate upgrades.
The new conversion cap is 1 year and 1 month. They won’t let you stack any higher than that anymore.

$20 is my hard breaking point for most of these subscriptions. Once Netflix goes up again from $15.50/month I’m probably gonna dump that for something like Prime which is only $8/month.

I gladly paid $10 for a month to play Infinite campaign. No way I’m paying $15 for a month that doesn’t include multiplayer access. Time to go back to patient gaming once my Ultimate expires next spring . Besides , these damn games usually need a year of patches anyways
To be clear I don’t hate Xbox, I just haven’t found anything to play on there recently that makes the cost worth it anymore. I really don’t play multiplayer much these days so multiplayer isn’t a priority and I’m not one to play things right when they come out so I’d rather just wait and buy it if I like it or the reviews are good.

I like Game Pass Ultimate, there’s a lot of really cool things in it… But I buy most of my games on day one, especially if there’s a preorder bonus that I’m interested in. So with that in mind I wish Xbox/Microsoft had more options to save money on Game Pass Ultimate. Especially for gamers like myself that buy a lot of games, sometimes more then once. I don’t want to pay more for the service.
Raising the price of Game Pass Ultimate sorely due to Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games doesn’t sit well with me. What if you don’t play Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games? Then you’re being forced to pay more for something that you probably won’t play. I say probably, because I don’t know what’s in that Activision back catalogue.
Game Pass Ultimate is awesome! But I would prefer some more options to save money.

If they make good on all of the games in the recent reveal and carry on with that momentum then im ok with a slight increase. If they dont, and increase further then ill evaluate my options.

TBH we've been getting over with the price of GPU for years, even with the slight increase the value is still king. I'm ok with it because I still get top tier value. I'm not enthused about it but it's not egregious.

Game pass has different prices depending on the region. Thank goodness they didn't do 4x USD conversation rate for our region. So it is still quite cheap. Heck our pc gamepass is even cheaper than Netflix hd.

They need to sell a year for gamepass ultimate in stores. None of these 3 months crapp. it's easier to manage that way. I have a year for playstation, but they got greedy to and they should lower the price back down to what it was originally to, plus i am only paying for the 2nd teir. I have both consoles, but i am not happy with either one of the ways they are going about things in this generation.

I believe the $19.99 price is not the issue, but the timing and online service for non subscribers to Game Pass. I am still waiting for the big wave of so rated highly games to appear in Game Pass. They should have waited till Game Pass can prove its revolving window of GREAT games and make a change. Game Pass has become no longer a value worth paying for. Once my subscription runs out they will with have to have a 12 month subscription that would keep the price the same, or I'll just buy cd keys or simply end my subscription

I was a big Xbox and MS fan for decades. I have bought 5 Xbox Series X for family members, each have their own Game Pass accounts. I am not feeling good with their latest decisions. I feel Call Of Duty is too late to Game Pass. Come this November, I'll be giving PlayStation 5 Pro a chance. I am also finding that I play a lot of Free to play games. Also all Game Pass accounts from my family have been cancelled.

Xbox game pass standard is definitely copying PlayStation+, It just sounds the same, the only upside to this standard Game Pass is the fact that you have access to all the games on game pass that are 6 months or older even though you don't get games day one that's fine we get that same treatment from PlayStation Plus. I'm pretty much still the owner of Game Pass core and now that's going to be a $15 increase not liking it but not the end of the world, I guess it's $5 cheaper than PlayStation+ essential. Whatever streaming is becoming even more expensive in this current ERA anyway.

I feel like the tier plan is solid but the price hike doesn't make a lot of sense when the majority of gamers don't play COD, at least for longer than a couple weeks. So it isn't going to fuel long term growth in sub counts or revenue. I might stay subbed if the deluge of games Xbox has finally coming out over the next year are all at least good, but if those games are bad or mediorce, I'm out.

If gamepass had more games i wanted to play i might re-evaluate my decision but one or two new games land there each month (on average considering ms likes to release all their games in the winter for some reason :/) am i willing to invest 240/ year on that is the question? Say i buy 4 of those on release (70 ea or $210) than i find the rest on sales or in bundles months later the old fashioned way. I suppose it's still worth it... Just borderline best deal in gaming not THE best deal.
Also there are a lot of games not even in gamepass that i buy ie square, capcom, falcom etc. i think I'll wait for another big publisher to jump on board before i decide fully.

If you're on Game Pass Ultimate you need to ask yourself if it makes more sense for you to switch to Game Pass Core and then spend the money you're saving -- about $10 a month or $120 a year -‐ on buying games outright when they're on sale.
Nah just keep it going year round. More money even on slow months for content, means they got more to spend on third party going forward. I got ultimate and I'm only playing first descendant ATM lol

But of course thats before downloading their launcher, buying the new Campaign, buying the Multiplayer, paying for better guns via dlc, subscribing to various battle passes... Everything except microtransactions for the game is included in Gamepass. The campaign and the standard MP and Zombies are all included and you'd need to buy the full game to play those modes. Only the battle royal mode is free to play. Activision is more than just CoD also.
The only free thing in CoD HQ is Warzone.
MP, Zombies and Campaign isn't. I don't play Warzone but I won't be paying more money for gamepass it's just too much for me I'll just buy an used copy of StarField and Forza Horizon and play that and First Descendant.
Just another reason to lose more hope for the future. It may be an end for me being a long time Gam Pass Subscriber, so i may be ending it after over 10 years of a member.
Makes me think if gamepass should of never had day 1 £70 game exclusives day 1. Its been good for us but they lost out on so much sales of games. For me i have gamepass till 2025 but after that im canceling, i only play one game at a time
They wanted people to subscribe and now they are trying to milk the existing fanbase and subs. Also, Xbox has just kept acquiring studios and has very few hit games to show for it. The last showcase was the only decent showcase they had in recent years, and they should really not have put all of it on gamepass.
The worst part about the price increase is the increase in price for online play. That essentially makes gp core very poor value as compared to gp ultimate.
@ellipsisYTB That is the sad truth. Gamepass was never ment to be a magical thing. It was just ment to milk us. Online play should be free! If we aren't using Xbox party chat then we should be able to play online. I did get a PC in 2021 but I found it very confusing but now that Microsoft is treating us like this I'm might give it another go. I do have PC with RTX 2080 but I found it too loud which is annoying so I just leave it downstairs for my family to use. My Xbox Series X being very quiet and super fast to use I appreciate the Series X more. If Xbox didn't raise the prices and keep ripping us off then Xbox Series X would be the best thing in gaming

@@arianoooamari6949ye, I play on a Xbox 360, and it looks like I'm not going anywhere, because Xbox 360 simply has a better game lineup, you can make your avatar look cool with achievement unlocks. The games on 360 are yours to enjoy, without Activision watching your every move, you don't need to install a patch for the game, you can chose to cloud save or not. And you can still play live with friends which is peer to peer I think. And that's because the Xbox 360 had a better launch then the series x, the Xbox Series X failed to bring exclusive or good games that would make people buy the console. Instead people were playing the same stupid games, from Xbox One, which makes buy the series x a mistake. All the series x is, is a slightly more power hungry Xbox one X, with a new boring design and slapping a new name on it, I don't think Xbox will see growth unless they know how to kick start a generation properly. Also they need to fix the fact that black ops 6 will be half the size of your SSD, its not normal and I don't think the game is actually that size and is some bug or bloat in the game. A good call of duty game on the Xbox 360 was only a few megabytes. I want to be promised to have the call of duty game day one patch to be fully on the disc, non of this other crap that needs to download. When some one buys a game that they are really excited to play, they don't want to by some huge update that can take hours, making your short play session to be ruined, but if I'm on Xbox 360 or Xbox One, I can grab I copy of Halo 3 and pop it onto the disc tray, and in seconds I can see the splash screen of that epic halo music, and then the button to start solo game is right on the homescreen, and now your in the game, progressing the game, faster them a Xbox series X, and Xbox One would be a bit like Xbox 360, before Microsoft were desperate about day one patches, the only thing now is that it wants you to install the game to the hard drive, which is justified for the faster load time and the less noise you'll get from your disc drive. Anyway I'm just saying that the user experience in modren gaming is broken, so then who is left to play Xbox, only a few Xbox fan boys who really love the EA Sports games, but after that I think the xbox community is dead, because most games don't even have proximity chat anymore, which just makes games lifeless, if your bunny hopping from game to game on gamepass, then you truly don't know how to enjoy games, you just want the achievements. The thing that made xbox great was the few top Multiplayer titles that has been able to create a everlasting community. But if your bunny hoping from game to game, you will not be able to enjoy the game properly, anyway if you can add to my fear mongering then plz help me, but that is all from me, also subscribe to Minetheground to watch a Xbox 360 unboxing in 2024.
Price increases are never nice. Each individual just has to decide whether the price they pay is worth the amount of content they actually use. £14.99 a month or £179.88 a year is still worth it to me. However I havent actually paid a Game Pass sub since my All Access ended in Jan 2023 and due to MS Rewards and a deal from my ISP, my next payment due date is sometime in 2026.
I guess the consumer has to "pay" for the Activision-Blizzard acquisition.

Doss that mean (for instance) that Starfield would NEVER be on Standard, or will there be a delay.
