The Nintendo 64 and the OG Xbox were my favorite consoles growing up. Discovering Xbox live back in 2002-03 for the first time and being able to talk to people from around the world and play online with each other was so mind boggling and crazy at that time. It really was the first online social media place even before UA-cam, MySpace, Skype, and Facebook existed.

Not sure about mvg, but even then I noticed what a royal pain in the ass it was to source 80 wire cables, let alone any long enough to function in an xbox. Doesnt help that the xbox is keyed upside down compared to every pc ever. So you pretty much NEED the maximum of 36 inches to reach everything feasibly. Thus, availability feels like it already dried up by 2013.

lads, lads, lads. The failure rates are roughly equal across all brands and models of hard drive. Favourite brands are either a hangover from the days when it mattered, or are evidence of personal bias resulting from a few bad experiences. Like people who have two cars from brand X go wrong, and conclude that brand X is rubbish - it's just not meaningful data.
The real death factors are vibrations (in particular how they transmit or don't transmit between drives in one rack/case), mounts and power cycles.
Source: I have personally retired and scrapped literally thousands of hard drives, there were no overall standouts in brand, model or even RPM (other than those studid 10,000rpm things - I never found 7200 to be less reliable than 5400 on a domestic level).
Fun bonus fact: my most unlikely survivor drive is an early 500GB 3.5" 7,200 Deskstar that I pulled out of a customer's old machine, it had over 58,000 power cycles. Not hours - power cycles. It still works fine. I have no idea how.

And a lot of emulated games on my Android phone. 8bitdo Zero 2 gamepad is so small that I can carry it anywhere and pop out for a short gaming session. A lot of indie games on a laptop too.
I am not saying that there are no worthile games on current generation. Quite on the contrary. I simply find many of them way too bloated. For example, almost every arcade racing game is open world nowadays. Showers you with events, cosmetics and so forth. There's way too many "noise" I have to go through to get to actual race. Core gameplay my be good, but it is hidden under pile of things I simply do not care about.

I did a whole video on soft modding but I got it taken down like 20 years ago... it's awesome, I've used it in the last year, hotkeys (buttons) work and it's pretty much an SNES9x/NES/N64/Sega/MAME/PS1/XBMC workhorse there are others, but I can't believe a $300 machine is still so fun to bring on vacation to play Mario Kart 64 and/or random mods with family. I think it is actually one of the first times my family saw 1080p content downloaded on the TV. It was a proof of concept and the TV didn't have computer input... okay I've made my point. I did a soft mod recently. I believe it was a variant of this rocky5 setup but the one I used needed my splinter cell to load a save file. I did however have to go through about a dozen various usb sticks/microSD adapters until I found one that was JUST old enough to work. It was a quirky ancient microSD adapter to usb. Allowed everything to work flawlessly paired with the controller cord to usb input cable I bought.
With a softmod and patience for ftp transfers, you probably only need to add a new HDD and you’ll be good to go.
Component cable output to RT4K makes for an excellent picture.
