The great thing about this car is 98 percent of dealers I’ve gotten ahold of are selling this car at MSRP with no accessories added to inflate the price. You can actually get these for 36 grand

Quality is way above and beyond in Toyota and Honda at least, and that has a cost to produce. VW in the other hand is all about technology and unbeatable driving dynamics, plus tradition and design (yes, the looks matters). So, Hyundai knows it is the new kid on the block, it doesn’t have the looks, certainly not the quality of its competitors, let alone the tradition. The price is just right for what you get, IMHO!

The Elantra N is the world's first mass-produced car to contain the drive shaft system used in the WRC. Of course, this is not a very advanced technology, but even BMW M and Mercedes AMG cannot use it because the production cost and unit cost are too high and the heat treatment, processing, and suspension assembly processes must all be changed to apply it to mass-produced cars.
However, Hyundai applied this system even at the cost of giving up its own profits to improve the driving experience and reduce lap times. I thought Hyundai was a cheap car company that only pursued profits, but after seeing this, my impressions of Hyundai changed to a company of car enthusiasts who are crazy about the soul of motorsports. There is still a gap in technology, but their passion may make them more car enthusiasts than BMW M.
I remember when Hyundai first entered the WRC. Almost every car fan in the world laughed at Hyundai. I also felt bad that a company like Hyundai dared to enter the WRC and thought that a company that made money by selling a lot of cheap cars would enter motorsports for marketing. But Hyundai won the WTCR over 20 times and won WRC twice in a row.

As a Hyundai service adviser I have yet to see any Elantra N or Kona N reliability issues. These powertrains are still relatively new and not nearly as common, but you can take that for what its worth. I've seen practically new Santa Fe's and Tucson's requiring a new transmission or fuel injector (granted these instances are very rare). I generally think a lot of it has to do with how diligent the owners are with regular maintenance. N owners are almost diabolical about it while some (not all) of the regular bread and butter owners never check their oil and go 7-10K between oil changes (don't do that, especially with thin oil) and wonder why its consuming oil at 50 or 60K.

I have a 22 Veloster N that I got about a year ago used. It's very similar to this but smaller and less practical. They discontinued that, which is a shame, but I'm really glad this car exists, along with their other N cars. Assuming the Veloster N doesn't really disappoint me with reliability as it ages, there's a very solid chance I will be going back to N for my next car. Whether it's the Elantra N or the Veloster N, the reviews are pretty consistent: it's a very competent performance buy, especially for the money, but most of all it's just FUN. Personally, I don't care a single bit if it's down seconds per lap vs a Civic Type R. If it's cheaper AND more fun to drive, that's what I'm getting every time.

I want to love this thing, but when you expect this will start burning a quart of oil per 1k miles by the 50k mile mark and the dealer will deny the warranty claim, it takes the luster off

Excellent point- I would love to hear how it goes in the long term- compared to Honda Toyota. I see used Kia/hyundai with sludge- or excessive oil use- as low as 40 k miles. I sold many at auction where these makes fail at post sale inspection for similar engine issues

My new 2024 Sedan N (as it’s named in Australia) was delivered to me mid February. It’s currently at the dealership having the DCT replaced under warranty. The car had only 1600kms on it when the hydraulic valve body accumulator in the DCT failed and pushed hydraulic fluid out of the housing early this month. It’s a shame. I’m looking forward to getting it back in a few days. Apart from that it’s a brilliant car. Hopefully nothing else serious fails.

Hopefully they get it sorted out. I got a minor transmission leak at 60k (kilometre) in my 6MT EN and now rocking a new transmission. I think my seals couldn't handle Canadian extremes. Took delivery in middle of winter and drove it extensively through the worst storms (everyone got stuck), but lucky me, tow truck stopped to pull out my Elantra N (must have been racing blue that got his attention) and quickly went home afterwards cause it was insane even for toe truck.

7:56 Do you see that Subaru and Toyota? Those are eccentric bolts, that actually allow you to adjust the camber and toe settings. They should be on every car, but ESPECIALLY ones that are supposed to be for driving enthusiasts.

Totally! My 370Z lacked geo adjustability... but my MX5 (bought for half the price) has full alignment capability out of the box. And when I finally got a precision track alignment it totally transformed the car's turn-in and handling.

The Ford Ecoboost 1.6L and this Hyundai 2.0 have both never burned a drop. By the way, Toyota printed a Subaru bulletin and said 1000 miles\quart was acceptable after my oil consumption test and sent me away.

If you can find a larger, high volume dealer in a metro area they definitely get way more allocations. If you're willing to travel a bit you can find one.
It's frustrating dealing with the guys who aren't used to selling enthusiast cars and treat the N products like they're some kind of low production exotics but there are dealers out there who move a lot of these.

I am absolutely in love with my 22' N. I'm at about 45k miles so far. I haven't tracked it because I need it as a daily. I swapped the summer tires for some Conti all-seasons which did change the handling a bit, but still very good. Otherwise, I've left it stock and reliable. I love the Jekyl and Hyde personality of this car. Loud and racy then economy car all at the press of a button. Avg MPG is about 28-29 with a few high tanks at 32-34 MPG. Great car, nothing else like it right now.
