Honestly this is only a massive flex to somebody who knows cars. Nobody on the road knows the difference between this and a 50k Mercedes SUV. Non car people don’t even see these stand out from the regular cars on the road. It’s nice I’m sure but you’ll never stand out in this compared to other cars in the price range
Maybe not the AMG, but the ungodly amount of chrome on the GLS600 Maybach, along with the two-tone paint, would probably stand out to non-car-people. To me as a car guy, though, all the Mercedes SUVs outside of the G Wagon have turned into amorphous blobs - they really don't look special, even when they're cresting $150k.
This! @@aprtur the thing looks amorphous with all the soft curves everywhere to the point where a Kia Telluride has more definition than this. If there wasn't a Mercedes badge on it it could be mistaken for one of VW groups other off brand offerings from Skoda, Seat or Cupra, or even a Honda passport equivalent
I have had a M5 with the 4.4L turbo and an E63 with the 4L turbo and can say after having both the AMG engine is in another league in terms of character. Sure both had similar numbers, but the AMG won in just about every subjective measure just such an amazing engine.
Saw this on the road the other day. The driver was wearing a Diadora track suit and Carrera sunglasses. As I passed him I noticed he had one hand on the wheel while pulling some white powder out of a tiny glass vessel giving himself a quick "toot" up his nose to get the full AMG experience.
Renntech offers a Transmission tune in their HHT line that makes shifts MUCH better! Mercedes has always had both laggy off-the-line transmission, but also ironically a jerky stop shifting as well. I've had 4 of their SUVs and they ALL do it from the 4cy-V6 and even this AMG V8. Get a transmission tune!
Man! They hit it on the nose with this review. The engine is great in the AMG 63 versions but in the suv versions in my opinion, they don’t feel that fast. Great noise though. Still a great looking vehicle though.
Someone in my neighborhood has twin GLS63s!! Looks crazy in the driveway. They are both white with the black mono block wheels. I guess they really like the car!
Had a GLS 63 amg for about a year. The problem with all these staggard tire set up configurations, is the tire wear. Tires needed replacing at about 7500-8000 k. Overall that was the deal braker for getting rid of it. The ride quality changes a whole bunch when the tires started to wear. Granted they were the OE tires.
Any idea why Mercedes no longer offers the E-Active body control on the 63 AMG but it seems it can be ordered on the GLS 580? I thought in 2022 or 2023 it was standard on the AMG model.
Damn, this motor is great. I think if they did something crazy like put it in their c63 car it would be a really great car! Too bad Mercedes is stupid.
Bought a ‘23 Dodge Durango Hellcat because of Savage Geese’s reviews. Such a bad ass SUV. I’d say shop the DDHC before paying another $60k + for the AMG. Hell, the Benz is built in Alabama and if you’re going to go with Good Ole USA why not the Durango Hellcat? 🇺🇸🏁
I just think the X7 and Escalade V are simply better than this. X7 on one side of the scale of being an overall better package and the Escalade V if you wanna be Johnny Gold Bars driving with your sun visor down so you can stare at yourself in the vanity mirror. How is the overall fit and finish of the interior in this? I know people have complained about MB losing that quality in the last few generations.
The scary part for me, surprisingly, is not the price of the vehicle. The scariest part for me is the depreciation of the vehicle. In a year, you can get a fully loaded one for 115k. In 2 years 90k.
it is interesting to me, how are you did not mention the Alpina XB7 not even even once, when it comes to a direct competitor for the GLS AMG, not the regular X7 M60i
