I remember a time when "electric turbo" meant some BS you got from Ebay
Not to split hairs but it's an electrically assisted turbocharger, it's still principally powered by exhaust gas.
JC Whitney for the win!
I was quite tempted to stick those in my mk4.
@@toddstevens8506was going to say if it was purely electric it would be a centrifugal supercharger, turbo charges are run off exhaust gasses.

It’s amazing how the Savagegeese channel has evolved, from Arby’s food reviews to 911 press releases and technical briefings.
And red lobster reviews too! That's more American luxury than a buick envista!
But the issue is that what made the channel special in the early days for us that have been supporters of Mark for before this became his full on profession. Feel like it is losing more and more of it originality as time passes by and hate to say it and with all to respect for Jack. I think he is the biggest reason for it. As he wants to make it more into sometimes like this video is for exp. And to us the OG's this isn't what we ever wanted to see become of Savagegeese.
I agree and I love Jack as a presenter. I think it’s sad Mark isn’t that involved anymore and the channel has morphed into something new. That being said im still a firm believer in Savagegeese supremacy as a car channel. I also feel it’s morphing into a commercial powerhouse like Motortrend was in its peak. It certainly has a lot of similarities. Hopefully it can retain some of the fun from the early videos with the highly technical deep dives and well, car porn it currently offers.
Arby's review? Now I have to go digging back into their old video, lol.
Look at Jack looking so handsome all dressed up. A man’s man.
😘
@@jackholmes8105 hi jack ❤

Jack's doing a great job with the engineer interviews. Mark's editing top notch too.
Is this what peak SG looks like?
Especially considering how stern and lacking in enthusiasm the engineers are...
@@andoletube they are engineers. so.....
It is what great rapport with a premier automaker looks-like, at minimum.
So was Jack. Is* Jack. @@geraldbennett7035

This was better made than Porsche's own YT launch video.
Definitely, that was so scripted, like two robots reading to each others.
@@awaysooner if you told me it was all Ai, I'd believe you. Someone to Ai "give me promotion video of 911, using these people".
Keep your beepers on because I am having a truckload of Beef 'N' Cheddars dropped off on the Bendpak area in the Shoppe. Jack, Mark, you did it. You are in the A-list of Porsche people. You made it--keep it up.
Thank you
😂😂
I guess aliexpress was ahead of the game with electric turbos.
Jack is so impressive and articulate. I love the fact that these engineers don't have to talk down to him. Such a great channel.
Well, Jack is an engineer...
No enrichment in the entire engine map is crazy, dont think ive seen that anywhere else
It’s going to be a legal requirement in Europe soon.
imagine what an aftermarket tune can do to this platform
@@fauxtool952 screw it, as usual?
Unfortunately you will see it everywhere soon :/
@@fauxtool952 Probably burn out the electric motor in the PDK since it's permanently engaged, or blow the turbo due to no wastegate :D
They kind of glossed over it, but the Lambda 1 thing is really big news. There is not a single turbocharged engine on sale that targets an AFR of 14.7 under load. That's very impressive.
If it works
*puts in 89 octane*
Actually most of them do, at least for limited operation. BMW has been doing it since the N54 engine, but would only run lambda 1 up until 4000 rpm or so, or for a few seconds until exhaust temps climbed then they'd go to power enrichment. The 3.0 turbo in the new Acuras tries to run lambda 1 for as long as possible as well (BMW does it better).
So is it detrimental to keep the AFR stoichiometric at full load ? , I thought all engines did this ?
@@domkraggp9944 on regular gasoline yes very hard to do and has never really been done on cars 100% of the time before… on Ethanol fuel you could do it because it burns slower and cooler allowing quite lean mixtures
And if you’re wondering why it’s bad: lean mixture means more heat (and therefore knock/preignition… very bad for every part of the engine lol)
Man these prices are insane, $167k for the GTS is brutal.
They have to pay for all the losses on Taycan and EV R&D costs. Basically you are buying an EV indirectly whether you like it or not. This is how the climate change hoax rolls out across industries; taxing consumers at every opportunity.
The poors are outing themselves!
Try paying over $400K for a 992 GTS in Australia.
It’s not for you bro😂

New gauge cluster is so ugly compared to the 992.1
Total disappointment.
That’s your opinion but you do you
Yup, we need to go back to 70s
They should offer customers an analog option if they desire to have it
@@danielnguyen9616 yknow that’s actually a good idea, more little options for preferences
Really miss the analog tach.
It's BEYOND LAME that that's gone. No one asked for all these damn screens.
For real. I love that TLX type s still has the analog type s silver gauges. Also the traditional cockpit look. Just wish I had the money. 😢. I nearly cried when I saw the new mustang have the ugly bmw screen.
You can just look at pictures of analog ones as I imagine that's how most of us have seen 911 gauges.
I don’t get it either. It must really be cost savings at the end of the day… I mean battery percentage and stuff can also be checked even when there’s still an analogue gauge in between the screens…
For real. I'm even more stoked to have my 992.1 manual after watching this.
USB-IF has infiltrated Porsche's naming division
THIS IS THE 992.2 EARLY REVIEW I WAS WAITING FOR.
12:42 I love how this question is phrased. Like in general Jack asks brilliant questions that request explanations of how things really work. He kills it.
Its a beauty how far this channel has progressed since I caught wind in 2014. Really has been the most underrated no nonsense honest automotive channel for years. It brings a salty tear to my eye
I just went out and hugged my 991.2 GT3 6MT.
Proven 4.0L H6 naturally aspirated engine. Solid lifters. Manual transmission. Easy to work on. Can buy engine oil M1 0W40 FS at Walmart. Heavy 12V conventional lead-acid battery. Exceptional build quality, fit and finish. Analog gauges, key in ignition. Lots to hug.
Sounds like hybrid and manual transmissions are mutually exclusive
They're not (Honda proved that years ago), but nobody is bothering to attempt to develop that tech further....well...yet, anyway.
I think it's tricky and arguably not worth it
The Suzuki Swift mild hybrids are also available with a manual transmission (at least here in Europe).

You mean the Germans perfect it.
992.1 prices 📈
-Rear taillight makes the car look like a full on EV. They did not need to add another long lightbar. That weird section where the “Porsche” logo looks awkward. The 992.1 rear end looks much better.
-a push to start button. Really?!?!
-fully digital analog?!?! They really listened to consumers 🧐
-sure, the hybridization makes it faster but I’m going to bet the ride will be more soulless. Faster is not always better. I’d much rather drive a 993 over a Tesla S Plaid any day.
-Maintenance will most certainly be a nightmare in the long run with all of these complexities.
-those front fins are a no go.
-MSRP “slightly raised”?!?! It just went up over $12k…. Almost 10% increase.
Right on all accounts; Porsche hates its traditional customers. Every new 911 will be more EV u til it’s a Tesla wanna be. Might as well buy a Chinese BYD since EVs are just a commodity. The engine was the soul of Porsche and they have gutted it. They will force this down your throat if you want a new car. As far as I’m concerned Porsche is dead to me.
These are $400+K in Australia, totally ludicrous money for a Porsche.
All this new hybrid and E-tech may benefit performance, but holy complexity. This car will be an absolute nightmare to maintain 10 years down the line from now.
was just about to comment this. I have enjoyed the relative reliability of porsches but this does not seem to check that box.
Asking for long term reliability and ease of maintenance from a European sports car isn’t realistic.
If those are top of mind the Lexus IS 500 is a much better choice.
@@JollyGiant19 The IS500 a better choice of what lol? Its not even a sports car... Its an archaic V8 coupled to an even more archaic compact sedan platform.
It will be maintained by specialists and enthusiasts, like all porsche cars... Thats nothing new in Porsche world. And in any case, in the supercar spectrum, Porsche has always delivered solid cars. Usually the most reliable ones.
It's a Porsche, you ain't fixing it yourself.
MGU-H in a road car. This overall is more similar to the F1 power train than the F1 teams are doing in their road cars. Amazing.
Makes me wonder why Porsche was pushing for the removal of MGU-H during F1 entry talks…
That IS a head-scratcher
Thats worth the definition of a new generation car alone
That whole split-turbo MGU-H system was pioneered by the Mercedes F1 team and they have been running them since 2014. That system is present in their AMG One, the new C63 and the current gen. 43 (moniker) products.
Mercedes already has it in the C63-- if anyone actually buys one
The last non totally digital 911, was the 991 generation. The 991 was be the future 964 everyone will lust after.
No one is asking for more customization on the dash. They are doing it for costs, full stop.
100%
It’s because they want the most visible real estate on the dash under their control and for their messaging. Like “don’t drive so fast you’re harming the planet” flashing in bold where you can’t miss it.
theyre priming you for EVs. sorry.

That can't be a Porsche check list. Where's the next 7 pages?
To be fair, it's a commercial
Na, 6 speed manual. Sell millions.
The 0-60 is always understated.
Love that Mark trusts Jack enough to represent the most savage of geese across the pond while Mark holds down the fort
That gauge cluster is the saddest thing I've ever seen. Come on Porsche!
Oh my god look how deep the water pump is buried. Plastic impeller too! Couldn’t quite tell from the cutaways but looks like it might be very hard to replace.
The only way you can access the pump is with the oil pan removed, it is a very stupid idea to have 2 one dollar o-rings between the oil and water circuits. It is all about cutting costs, as with the full digital dash. These cars will be good for 5-7 years, after that will be scrap. Even "new" "OEM" spare parts for other older Porsches are cheaply made in India or Pakistan. I sometimes preffer to save and restore old used Porsche parts made 25-30 years ago than buy "new" refurbished junk in Porsche labeled boxes.
There is no German word for serviceability.
the 2nd owner of these cars better have 30k ready to go for repairs at all times
He said it.... Analog Tacho gone because of Hybridization....
It's a bullshit reason - if Honda can implement an analog tach in a $20k hybrid CR-Z (with a 6 speed manual), Porsche can figure it out. Seems like an easy scapegoat to just use the Taycan/Panamera screen.
Me upset that the car wont come in manual as if im going to purchase a car made after 2012 by Porsche 😅
Can I use my Black+Decker batteries to spool the turbo faster?
This is nuts. Electricity spools the turbo initially and then the exhaust gasses essentially spin the turbine to charge the battery or use recuperated energy for the E-Motor. This isn't what I was expecting, and it's quite ingenious.
mercedes has been doing it for a while now
It's a genius idea, the turbo basically recycles twice.
I wonder what efficiency does it have?
Correction, i dont think mercedes captures energy from the turbo...
I'm still wondering why this channel hasn't reach 1m subs yet. They are the most detailed car reviewer here on UA-cam. smh! Great work Savagegeese!
I am staring enough on digital devices during the whole day, no analog no buy
So happy they invited you all out to do your deep dives! You guys are the best in the review business and always enjoy watching the content. Loving that new 532 HP and Porsche’s take on hybridization in the GTS. Bring on part 2!
Whoa. So the electric motor not only spools the turbo but controls the boost which I assume gives them incredible tuning fidelity. Pretty clever.
The only question that matters, what will have a manual transmission available, goes unanswered!
No. There's no manual option anymore
Unasked..
Manuals are dead, Jim
That new beetle looks zippy
Mark is always absent, petition to kick him out and replace with Turbowski.
Mark doesn't go to Germany anymore after unjustly being kicked out of Rammstein. Not everyone can handle his power vocals...
Alright Clarkson...
You said the thing, congrats
What happened in Rammstein?
Best car site. Great work here.
Never say never, but:
1. Hybrid.
2. Push to start.
3. Digital tach.
4. (really #1) No manual.
5. Builds now over $200K with options.
All of the above make me feel lucky I just picked up my new '24 Targa 4S that I ordered with the 7 speed. I don't care about sub 3 second 0-60 times and will likely never drive the Nurburgring. I can imagine an open air non hybrid manual transmission car coming in a year or two but only Elvis and Seinfeld will be able to get allocations.
Where is the out take with Jack flexing his muscles saying over and over that his Z06 is better?
👀
I will keep my 718 GT4 with 3 pedals.
your family might sell it after your funeral. maybe. but that's a classic, no need to upgrade until your knee gives out.
I’m kind of still liking the last narrow body 991.2! Maybe because I have one and will never sell it
"Narrow", you mean.
Maybe just maybe porsche have been at best sidegrades if not downgrades since the 992. Keep yours and cherish it. It's a real cool car that present models just can't match
No tuxmats as standard = no buy.
😂😂😂
Meanwhile, F1 says the MGU-H has little relevance for road cars and eliminated it from the next ruleset…
I guess they weren't thinking about the performance application of it. They assumed that road cars would probably only be trying to gain efficiency, but this car is using it in its current application in F1.
@@caryg4638Mercedes themselves already have it on the road and they are in F1. Seems silly to me. I think it's all about sound and they didn't want to claim something purely emotional.
F1 always does the dumbest decisions
It's Porsche who made them drop it.
I love seeing you guys travel and go to a big launch like this. Y'all are the best at what you do, and deserve all your success.
More informative than the official announcement. No mention of a manual transmission option or how the car sounds :(.
With hybridization, there was never going to be a manual option. Your only hope for a manual is the NA GT cars.

Absolutely fabulous video! This from someone unlikely to own a Porache in this lifetime.
Yep at $400,000+ AUD only the rich or powerball winners can afford one.
I’ve owned three versions of the 911 in the past 7 years including a GT3. I’ve decided the NA manual mid-engine Porsche cars are better fun street cars. I’ve purchased two of them in the last few years. The 911 is just too big and too heavy for my taste now.
Agree.... after four 911s, I've moved on. Wouldn't have a new one.

Gonna be a game changer performance wise. but all that intricacy in the powertrain has got to be so expensive to replace if fails. But hey- that’s why I buy Toyotas and just live vicariously thru Mark and Jack
Excellent breakdown of all the technical developments. Keep up the excellent work!
Love being back at the desk to Pcars and SG! Wooooohooooo🎉❤
Such an intelligent ans respectful interview! Thank you very much!
He dodged the question very blatantly, but for those wondering, yes, the analogue tach was ditched purely to save cost. It’s a part count decrease. Much easier and cheaper to have one screen.
If I had one it'd be a matter of days before I had the prior generation front bumper on it
The complexity of that oiling system is daunting. Semi dry sump with directed oil as needed? Typical German solution. Man, this thing is really loaded with new tech. Very similar to the eRay Vette on the hot lap strategy stuff on max attack. Sounds like a pretty thorough overhaul.
I watched the launch video, and Jack talking to the engineers had more energy and way more sincerity than the presenter in that video. Though she was certainly prettier than Jack.
the interviews theses guys get is awesome it is not done by many they get alot awesome job
Best technical video yet, keep up the wonderful work! I would love to have one of these in yellow
What a great video. I'm not a huge Porsche fan but their technical proficiency is undeniable!
I love these Interview videos!! Well done Savagegeese
This was a pleasure to watch!
Love the technical interviews on how this system functions, I am curious on how it will truly function out on the road and longer term. So glad they didn't make it a PHEV, like the E-Ray and on other performance cars so you don't run out of juice beside on a track where most won't go. Now if only the depreciation will kick in and demand slow on the older cars along with the flippers so I can get one.
Thank you for doing a deep dive on the tech and not clicking through the infotainment like other reviewers do!
Great video guys. Camera work was on point (thought the car was CGI for a few seconds there). And great interview as well. Was very interesting to learn about that hybrid system.
Great work as always!! Disappointed they went to a fully digital cluster but that's how it is...
"the prices havent gone up as much"
Thank god. Cuz now a well specced base is what a 2016 turbo was back in the day when brand new...not increasing the price after so many price hikes is not exactly an accomplishment
Exactly pure bs
Can’t get over those vertical slats on the grille.. just feels like it runs against the grain of the design language.
Y'all brought the A-game for this review, gentlemen. Very well done indeed.
My dream car(s) never involved Porsche until I started watching SavageGeese videos on Porsches. You guys have thoroughly convinced me these things are special. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford one, but if I win the lotto, Porsche will be on my short list. Now, if you guys could just convince Porsche to make a budget model that’s in the same price range as the Miata, I’ll be at the front of the line to buy one.
They should have gone high-revving NA engine with hybrid. The engineer says it is all about performance. However, on the street no one can extract the performance without losing a license. They need to bring back emotion. Also, notice how the standard daytime running lights make the car look like a beetle. No wonder the marketing is only showing the car with upgraded headlights.
All about the numbers ans tech, lesser for experience. When people now lack the capacity to experience an exciting car with an inspirational soundtrack themselves, why should the company target the few that still can?
Agree, but I think emissions rules dictate change like it or not. Just buy an older model, I just bought a 987.1. Not the fastest, but it’s a manual, very light, hydaulic steering, and naturally aspirated and you can wring it out on the street. Or get a Cayman 4.0 if you can afford it.
This is only their base line up… I imagine the next refreshed gt3 will be the 4.0 hyrbridized. Next turbo will probably be bonkers with the same set up as this GTS with twin hybrid turbos.
be sneakier
the only Porsche launch videos I wanna watch
Leave it to SavageGeese to actually discuss real details of the new 911
Thank you.
Well Done.
Great work as always guys, also good to hear an AI Jack cameo for the round-off at the end
Stoich across the rev band is crazy. Would love to nerd out with the engine team more.
This is the only 992.2 video I need to watch
This Thybrid is gonna be fucking cool. Seeing performance hybrid tech trickle down from GT to Super car to Sport car, is awesome.
For those who understand that heat is the biggest enemy of magnet motors, sandwiching it in between a hot turbo housing takes some work to solve the temperature issue. Although being skeptical at first of the hybrid, now reading the full spec, it is a great advancement. But hopefully, it solves the Porsche hybrid issue from the old days: once the battery is dead, the entire car stops.
This is peak internal combustion engine. Just looking at it boggles my mind. Incredible engineering for sure.
This reminds me of how the current F1 powertrain is designed. Which is the spirit of F1 I think. Pushing the innovation and applying it to production cars
Jack, great to see you doing these interviews and you’re so darn knowledgeable but you gotta stop making a statement and then saying “correct” at the end to make it into a question. A million other ways to form an interview question. Keep it up though, guys.
