It can't be stressed enough how monumental and important to the overall growth of EV it is to have a car that can do 2 laps of the track at performance speed and then simply recharge for slightly longer than the two laps took and do it all over again. You are basically just taking cool down periods. The re-charging part can almost just be seen as a net positive bonus.

It's unbelievable that when I was in high-school 20+ years ago, my parents both had Hyundais, a Tiburon, and Sonata, and before that an xg350. I was really into cars back then as well and everyone trash talked Hyundais, but I saw the potential, especially when I realized the xg350 was on par with some Mercedes cars that I worked on during my coop placement at an actual Mercedes dealership. It's wild what Hyundai has become since then.
One of the best episodes of recent memory... This Ioniq 5 N seems like something truly unique and almost revelatory or something... They're onto something, I think this is pointing to the direction future performance EVs will take.
This is such an amazing platform. This is exactly where EVs need to be and to go. Even as a viewer, I had such fun watching this video - the fun videos are contagious.
Misha Charoudin : it was so genuine how you truly have enjoyed driving the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N....that you just cannot deny the pure joyfulness that you've experienced. The fact how proper this EV is running by all internal combustion racing cars on the Nurgburgring is just simply showing of how superior this EV is. The fact that it weighs 2000 kg, is 4,7 meter long and 1,6 meter high and larger than the Tucson in all measurements....it's defying the laws of physics with its performance !!!! And the simulation of an 8-speed shifter with whiplash during shifting is just genius !!!! Hyundai have really outdone themselves and they know how to make an EV immersive and driving wise enjoyable.
@@lflyr6287 you are correct, it is 4.7smth; then again, I am correct as well as this is the size of an X3..., which doesn't make it a sports car, unfortunately for them.
Toyota had this fake shift technology already. Theyre just not using it in any current EVs. That LFA concept was meant to feature it. No one really wants an EV LFA though.
2 full laps, half an hour break sounds very reasonable on the NBR to me. People sometimes seem to forget it's a taxing 20km lap. Impressed with the Ioniq 5 N!
don't be distracted by the no. of cars they passed on the track; from the video, the traffic was quite slow; when the first real sports car appeared, it was bye bye 5n; it was very understeery out of corners(and into corners for that matter) and the direction changes were quite slow as well; fast for something in its size, but generally, slow in comparison with real sports cars; and don't forget, there are a number of hot hatchbacks that have a better time around the ring, all if them with less than half of the 5n power and most of them having manual gearboxes as well. But, indeed, the way it leaped out after the corners and the way the brakes resisted fading was impressive. The direction is good, now they just need to cut out 500 kgs of weight from it and make it 20% smaller in each direction.
which faster cars they have passed?, the only real sports car, the black m2, passed them both easily; the 5n with close to 650 hp is slower on the ring than megane RS, CTR, golf R and RS3(maybe others as well), the first three having half of its power.

If I'm not mistaken, even without 1-pedal braking modes on, Hyundai/kia EVs (and PHEVs) all integrate regen into the brake pedal as well (not all companies do this) and they're pretty good at making it feel natural. So even using the brake pedal, the friction brakes see much less use than a gas car, helping to avoid brake wear and fade

Thought the fake engine sound without shifting would get annoying, but I still prefer it over silent EVs, no matter how fast they are (looking at you Lucid). I still think there are some opportunities to make a sound scheme that provides more information layered on top of the speed sound like add a bass note that reflects torque/throttle position and so forth.
This is the first iteration of their attempt, so I am sure it will only get better from there. ICE engine sounds are also engineered from pipe lengths to materials, same can be done here but more digital.
well i thought i would get USED to that sound, but nope i'm still finding it ANNOYING. i would use it during the first 24 hours of ownership, after that, it would likely never been turned on again for the next 5 years. in a nod to "planned obsolescence" what they've done is PURPOSELY washed their 2-Liter 4 cyl through "Auto-Tunes" in it's 1st iteration, so in the 2nd iteration they could later remove the effect and just give you the straight sound of their popular Veloster N/Elantra N cars (which is what they know you wanted in the 1st iteration). admittedly their Turbo-4 does sound surprisingly good if you've ever heard one in real life.
@@phillyphil1513 I'm not talking about the specific quality of the sound (of course it could be much better), but just the fact that it makes one at all. I think it was the result of Hyundai executives, who had never made a sporty car before, scouting many engineers from the former BMW M to Hyundai N and giving them full authority. The combination of BMW M engineers' detailed driving feel tuning and South Korea's traditionally strong electric vehicle technology resulted in the creation of the IONIQ 5N, which is not the fastest but the most fun to drive electric vehicle in the world.

Ain't gonna lie Hyundai did some electric magic. Good job to talented engineers.
don't be distracted by the no. of cars they passed on the track; from the video, the traffic was quite slow; when the first real sports car appeared, it was bye bye 5n; it was very understeery out of corners(and into corners for that matter) and the direction changes were quite slow as well; fast for something in its size, but generally, slow in comparison with real sports cars; and don't forget, there are a number of hot hatchbacks that have a better time around the ring, all if them with less than half of the 5n power and most of them having manual gearboxes as well.
But, indeed, the way it leaped out after the corners and the way the brakes resisted fading was impressive. The direction is good, now they just need to cut out 500 kgs of weight from it and make it 20% smaller in each direction.

I simply cannot feel enthused about silent electric cars. Not ever. To me the sound a car makes is a large part of its sole. And for track use, I think the sound is useful. Wow amazing lap(s) ! Never thought this kind of car would be so fast on the ring.Great cars and drivers!

세피아는 큰 트레일러 트럭을 끄는 광고를 찍었었지요.

Gosh I was looking for days for a video of my Miata on the 9th of May. Couldn't find any. I was watching your video and actually remembered that I was overtaken by 2 Hyundai's. At 12:34 you can see me on your right 😂😂😂
Incredible to think I was going flat out and you passed me like I was standing still.
Greta video and Impressive performance from those cars.
17:26 Misha, He only used the NGB button once. It's amazing.
You know Misha, that feeling you had while having difficulty keeping up with the second ioniq N, everyone other than you feels like that all the time when you're around ;-).
😂😂👍

That the thermal managment can control the battery under those circumstances is really impressive. Even with recuperation. I think here you get what you paid for. Nice electric track tool.
They are freaking growing and seems like they do not intend to stop at any moment. Go Hyundai. The future.
i was waiting for this video on few weeks. thank you for that!
Not only that, K-pop has been planted in cars, so they're even dancing around corners LOL
And this video is how his UA-cam channel/ career took off. Amazing driver control from both! Hyundai group seeing this video must be proud! "It's not about lap time for us, it's about having fun"
Good job Korea 🇰🇷 !!!

❤
All Hyundai N cars are great
I remember in Rob Dahm's video, they were mentioning about the options on the drivetrains, and how the car was made with racing/track drive in mind, it make sense why it can lapped 2 laps in Ring without overheating on either battery, motor, or even brakes!
And yea, there are torque distribution adjustment iirc.

This video was amazing and one of the best. Not only did it have the "vs" (like the 2 Honda videos) it had the intuitive explanation from the engineer Lapo, then the commentary at the end with the other drive who clearly knows his stuff as well. Watching him drive the same exact car the way he did was simply proper. Also, I'm glad you left the internal engine speaker noise on as it definitely added another layer to the video. 👍
Hyundai is not honda
@@jeenhur8804 You must've missed the part in which I said "like the" - aka I'm referring to the video of the 2 Hondas (EP & EF Civics) that were "battling" like seen on this video. Search the channel.

I've rarely ever been as excited during a youtube video as during the first lap with the other driver of a dark grey Hyundai!
THAT THING IS A BEASTT
