The amount of tension I had waiting, knowing the second one was going to come in, to see your faces when it happened haha So, I think you all should see the French & Saunders version of that, they did a parody it's pretty funny.
I love the Shakespeare's Sister song, You're History. You get to hear their voices together more. Siobhan (with the deeper voice) used to be in Bananarama.
Nobody ever sees Siobhan coming, why it's such a great reaction video. She was also the lead singer of Bananarama. Fun fact Siobhan, who played death in this video, was completely plastered by the time they filmed the video. Having been drinking in the studio, waiting all day. So a lot of the falls and stumbles down the stairs were real.
Wasn't Bananarama's hard partying what inspired Jennifer Saunders to come up with the Ab Fab characters, Edina and Patsy? Or do I have them mixed up with some other girl group?
@@hackapumpno it was Bananarama. Jennifer and Dawn did a comic relief song with them in the 80s. Interestingly Siobhan had left by then and formed this group
This is such an amazing song. It spent eight weeks at the top of the UK charts from February to April 1992 and was also number 1 in Ireland and a top 5 hit in at least a dozen other countries including the USA. I was waiting for your reactions the moment Siobhan Fahey entered (5:05) as the Devil or Death! Her vocals may not be as impressive as Marcella Detroit's, but are still good, and her personality oozes character. She has a great and varied history from the girl group Bananarama and her own projects, including from working with Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics fame) who co-wrote this with them, and who she was married to around this time.
Siobahn who sang and acted the angel of death character has to wait for some time before she could shoot her scenes in the video. Allegedly she got very drunk during that time and this enhanced her performance.
I discovered this song when it came out in 1992 and today, with you, I felt those same shivers running down my spine watching the video. A pure masterpiece.
Marcella Detroit (short hair, amazing soprano voice) has a co-writing credit on Eric Clapton's "Lay Down Sally", and Siobhan Fahey was in the most successful British girl group of all time. They released two albums as Shakepears Sister and then the band's publicist got up on stage and, in front of Marcella Detroit and without warning her, announced that she'd been sacked. The two women didn't speak again for 25 years.
However, I believe that Marcella is portraying addiction. “You must only think of me” “There can be no in between” “When your pride is on the floor” “I’ll make you beg for more”. Just my opinion. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
Now that pretty much everyone has mentioned Siobhan Fahey and to add even more to the Bananarama connection, the male model in this video is the father of the child of one of the Bananarama members.BTW, great reaction, guys.
Shakespears Sister were brilliant. You should check out Goodbye Cruel World, I Don't Care, Heroine, You're History, Hello to name a few. They had a really interesting back story, couldn't get along, didn't speak for over 20 years then reformed and went on tour.
This is one of my favourite songs of all time. There is no other song like it. Hormonally Yours and Sacred Heart are both fantastic albums. Cheers from OZ, Paul.😁👍
Siobhan Fahey's character in this always makes me think of Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) from the movie Sunset Boulevard and her line "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."
Marcella Detroit aka Marcella Levy did some great solo albums. Check out Jewel, I Believe and I Hate (You Now). She also was in Popstar To Operastar. Check out her version of The Queen Of The Night Aria from The Magic Flute by Mozart. Phenomenal. Shakespeares Sister reunited in 2019 and released a 5 track extended play.
Fantastic Reaction! You 2 free spirits should really dive into the whole Shakespears Sister back catalogue, as well as Siobhan Fahey [Solo] + Marcella Detroit [aka. Marcy Levy] [Solo]... Trust me ''IT'S A TRIP''!!! Love you guys. [Greetings from South Africa]💜💛🖤
I love this song & this group. I can’t remember the singer’s name but boy can she reach those notes !! 👏👏👏. Siobhan is from Bananarama, another great 80’s group. When life was exciting & had quality in abundance 😢
Like Captain Dissolution would say, I’m sure those reactions are totally real. 😂😂😂😂😂 Imagine waking up each day, being “totally surprised” that the sun is up once again, even though it just went down yesterday. That’s how I imagine people like this would be, if it wasn’t an act. 😂😂😂
OMG ! I've so been waiting for you to do this Group Guys... They only did 2 x Albums , but boy on boy what Albums they are !!! Marcela & Siobhan's contrasting Vocal duets are just sublime !!!
Yes, she left the group I think in 1987. She is an Irish/British musician. She has starred in a film in 1994 Jiggery Pokery. I’ve always loved the contrast of Marcella light Soprano voice and Siobhan contralto voice. They should check out more Shakespeares Sister songs. I like there song Heroine, they are a great band that I feel were very underrated in the late 80’s early 90’s.
Thanks to the genius of Dave Stewart ( Eurythmics ) producing the music for these two amazing girls they were brilliant and WAYYYYY ahead of the times :-)
Had to try record this off the radio..still jave my recording on cassette lol..fuck all to play it on now but still have the tape 😂 amazing song..for me personally..
This song always makes me weep, a true classic that is absolutely deserving of its legendary status. Please, please, please look up the Shakespears Sister reunion they did a while back where they performed this very song. Yes, the ladies have aged, they still performed though and I know you'll enjoy it too.
Really hope someone already pointed out that Marcellas character in this is very insane. And Siobhan actually want to save this poor guy. According to the lyrics. Hugs from Sweden.
Because life is often incredibly hard for people. For, me Marcella depicted true life, not the fairytale one we grow up with as children, where everything is perfect.
Please react to the Swedish band called Whale. Their song is called "Hobo Humpin Slobo Babe" it's a great song and was played on the alternative stations here in Detroit and was on MTV's 120 minutes of alternative music
As a teenager when this song came out, I remember both loving and hating this song at the same time. Loved the tune, hated the "creepy" character who scared me to death! 😂
Siobhan was completely pissed on a bottle of vodka after waiting all day to shoot her angel of death scene and nearly went arse over tit down the stairs she later told us in an interview. This song meant to much to my family during a time of mourning.
When this song was released in 1992 it spent 8 consecutive weeks at no1 in the UK and reached no4 on the US Billboard 100.
Ahhh, the British. They make some of the best music and they are so more emotional and arty.
She is American I believe..

Literally Bananarama (and her husband Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics). :)
Yet he messed her head up just like Aniie Lennox :(
The amount of tension I had waiting, knowing the second one was going to come in, to see your faces when it happened haha So, I think you all should see the French & Saunders version of that, they did a parody it's pretty funny.
OMG it's absolutely hilarious! So is the one they did of Bjork.
I love the Shakespeare's Sister song, You're History. You get to hear their voices together more. Siobhan (with the deeper voice) used to be in Bananarama.

There was no ‘lead’ singer of Bananarama; all three sang.
I didn’t know that 🤔
I love this..death was steaming drunk that day.. (if you know you know) and it's beautiful 😂🎉
Marcella with the voice, Siobhan with the eyes - co-written by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics! TUNE!!
Their album Hormonally Yours is incredible!
'Hello, Turn Your Radio On' 😁👍
Great song with an amazing video to match.
I love the eye roll from Death towards the end as if to say, "Whatever, I take you all in the end."
Shakespeare's Sister gig was excellent. The songs were good on the radio, fabulous in an auditorium n powerful pa.
The moment Siobhan entered had kind of "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins vibes, when the drum part smashed in.
Loved this song when it was released and love it today!
I love Siobhans entrance cause apparently she was literally hammered after waiting around for about 12 hours to do her part in the video.
This song played a lot in my house growing up in Scotland 😂

This song was huge in the UK (8 weeks at no1 in 1992) The second singer was a former member of Bananarama! Talk about a transformation.

Spot on with the Nina Hagen observation Suzie👍👍
their songs 'You're History'; 'I don't care' and 'Hello, turn the radio on' are also fire.
Hello Turn Your Radio On is their best imo.
Siobahn, the 2nd singer was, let's say, very merry ( as a newt ) during filming....so the story goes.
Can't beat the Irish 😊❤

Siobhan who sings the stay with me part was the lead singer of Bananarama.
Marcellas a great songwriter, she co wrote Lay Down Sally with Clapton!

Great reaction. Iconic video.
French and Saunders did a hilarious spoof of this vid.
The beat always sounds like a heartbeat to me
Oh my I loved this song so much when it released. I believe they were twins? Long time ago... This one and Natalie Imbruglia carried me for years :)
