See that tent in the middle of the stadium , I'm 67 now but I was the lighting engineer for the concert ,at 27 years old I was bricking myself that I would get it wrong ,still to this day the greatest 25 minutes of my life

This was before the days of total computerised lighting ,staging started a week before , lighting started 5 days before ,100s and I mean hundreds of par56cans had to be installed and adjusted by hand with the correct colour filters fitted ,over 30 miles of cabling and most of it controlled by faders through power packs , nearly half a million amps ,serious stuff ,long range projectors were manually operated by guys up on the roof ,half of the show was in daylight and only started to come into its own half way through queens set ,fully effective for David Bowie who was unfortunate to have to follow queen ,2 days to strip down and pack up ,
no special lightshow, no autotune , no dancers, no effects, just pure talent on stage.

Yep, no ear pieces, no autotune just pure once in a lifetime talent, there will never be anyone like Freddie, such a sad loss, I still cry whenever I see his last video, the contrast from this performance being so vibrant and rocking the world to his last video, so fragile and saying goodbye, but, his talent will live on for many many years to come!

The amazing thing about the crowd reaction is that this wasn't even a Queen concert. And therefore not a typical Queen audience. Just shows what quality can achieve.
I'm not a queen fan but I know the lyrics to a ton of their songs and can sing along to them. They're British icons!

Evenly mixed Brittish crowd would all know these songs. Everybody over 25year old there knew these. Even I they were not fans per se.

They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, because they could connect with an audience.”

Taylor Hawkins (RIP) said they modeled a lot of their stage presence on Queen. They had a “Queen playbook” and if it was in the playbook they would do it. NOT comparing FF to Queen but it’s easy to see how FF took their inspiration.
We went to it it cost us £25 per ticket and being totally honest we weren't to sure what to expect. Without doubt it turned into one of the greatest days of music we have ever had the pleasure of being at. Queen, U2, Bowie, The Who, Elton, Sir Paul McCartney, Dire Straits and Sting The list just goes on,
Freddie sang amazingly well for someone with a severe throat infection--he said in a later interview it felt like he was gargling ground glass.
If you listen close, you can hear his voice crack a few times. He recovered masterfully every time.

To this day, this is often referred to as one of the greatest live performances of all time because of the way he commanded the stage and commanded the crowd. Keep in mind, this was considered to be after Queen's heyday and with this performance, they reinvigorated old fans and gained new fans across the globe (as this was televised in multiple countries) and put out a lot of great music after this. The way he worked that crowd is still fantastic to watch over and over again.
I remember seeing this on a 12 inch black & white TV when I was Junior in High School here in America. Loved that concert.
Now... Imagine being the next act to go out on stage.. 😳 😂 Freddie was a boss! ❤

I remember I was at a party with friends watching live telecast of live aide ,it was first of its kind and a really big deal.Queen and Freddie Mercury blew everyone out of the water..it's still gives me chills .His still missed ❤

If you watch at the end of the performance, the far right corner of the stage, there is a light blinking, and when Freddie signals everyone to stop, the red light goes on meaning the power was going to be cut. They timed it perfectly. You wouldn’t expect anything else from Queen.

I still remember sitting in front of the TV for 24 hours watching this Live Aid event in 1985. Each band only had a 20 minute spot, and the bands getting on stage after Queen didn't wanna enter the stage. As mentioned, this was NOT a Queen concert. Radio Ga Ga is the song that Lady Gaga got her stage name from. Freddie had all 90000 in his hand those 20 minutes.
I still cherish the time I got to see Queen in 1984 and 1986 with Freddie on vocals.
They had this guy playing the piano parts when Freddie was not. He was put in the back out of sight.
The year after this in 1986, they filled Wembley Stadium again with their own classic concert from that year. That concert is available on DVD as well.

Remember taping live aid on vhs and thinking it was going to be hours until able to watch the Queen set again once they finished playing.

I used to work with a guy who was in the audience at the 1986 concert. He was mugged in the toilets and had all his camera equipment stolen. Never got it back.

12 hour music event . back then never done before, broadcast via Satellite Worldwide...only other broadcast like that was Elvis Aloha Live Hawaii..., this may not mean much today, but it was pre Internet, no digital or wireless technology, notice every instrument and cameras have cables, this entire concert was epic, groundbreaking, and then Queen, who was supposedly washed up, yesterday's news came out and tore the place Down. at 15 years of age watching this, it's remained etched in my mind for over 40 years!..❤
I get goosebumps and tears every time I hear this.
If you watch Freddie when he is dancing with the cameraman, their wires get cross while he is singing the man holding the wire for the camera tries to untangle them pulling on the mic cord Freddie noticed and grabbed it before it hit him in the face and never missed a note to hammer to fall. That is what a perfect performer he was because he did it so smoothly, no knew anything was wrong. Queen was and still is the greatest rock band. Spike Edney played the piano during crazy little thing love.
I fell in love with Queen back in 2018 when I saw the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. I fell hard down the rabbit hole and have never come up for air. I have literally watched this live aid performance thousands of times and like you said it never gets old, and is always exciting! I fell madly in love with Freddie Mercury after seeing that movie. ❤❤I watch this multiple times a day and probably will continue to do so for a long time to come. Do yourselves a favor and watch Queen Wembley 86 full concert. It is fire 🔥 and in my opinion Queen at their absolute best. Thank you for another great reaction! You guys are awesome.
None of the reactors ever mention that on Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Brian May plays 3 different guitars on the song. He starts with an acoustic, switches to a Telecaster then finishes with his Red Special

@@philjones45How u doing, MAJOR Queen fan here, the fact that he's able to navigate 2 changes in the space of 4 minutes (for this version anyway), that's pretty big cos nobody did that back then.. unless you the stand thing that guitarists use for Acoustic live, but PHYSICALLY handing them over between tech and artist in what would be a 10 second space is pretty extraordinary

Queen rehearsed for 5 days straight before this to ensure everything was perfect timing wise, it shows that when you put in the work not only your fans but the whole world are rewarded with this truly amazing never to be repeated live performance.

To me what made this performance so great was Live Aid was an all day event broadcast live all over the world and most every major band or performer was there. The expectation and hype was so great that when the bands began to play, most all were a let down, until Queen took the stage and electrified that crowd and as a result electrified the globe for 20 or so minutes. They literally blew every other act off the stage. It's still legendary til this day.
The songs were, Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Gaga, Hammer to fall, Crazy little thing called love and you know the last 2 we will rock you and we are the champions.
Nothing musically has ever topped Queen at Live Aid… I’ve only watched it a hundred times 😂 No where near enough ✌🏼☺️🥰💛

Everybody had a 20 minuet set. Queen, despite the "ad libs" and "crowd interaction" and re-jigged their songs to fit - came in on time with a only few seconds off. Roger Taylor on drums kept the beat. Consummate professionals. The man who played the audience to perfection. Absolute masterclass of how do a live performance - blew everybody else away. I loved growing up in the 70's!

I remember watching this in Australia, i was glued to the TV thoroughly enjoying every band - then Queen came on!!! The whole show culminated right there and then. It was basically like - opening acts - QUEEN - closing acts. Freddie Mercury the only man who could hold a mic 🎤 in one hand and the whole world 🌎 in the other

72,000 people were at Wembley for Live Aid, 89,000 were at JFK Stadium in Philly for the US half of the benefit and 1.5 billion people watched it. AMAZING!

If ever there was a demonstration of “how to hold your audience in the palm of your hand”, Queen at Live Aid was it! Ok, so the audience was around 1.2bn people, but that didn’t scare them! They gave everybody a show, doing what few on the bill had done before; play a stadium!
Geldof allegedly blackmailed them into appearing; “can you afford to be the one band who didn’t play?”… THAT was your answer!

was 13yrs old when Live Aid took place...I watched it all...and hadn't really paid attention to queen until they took the stage.I just remember my jaw dropping and not closing until they left the stage. From that moment on I was a fan and still am 39yrs later!
I turned in live aid in 1985 awaiting the Black Sabbath reunion. Saw this Queen performance and knew I had just seen something special.
Later in the evening Bryan and Freddie came on and performed an acoustic version of Is This The World We Created
A few things to consider... This was not a Queen audience, but they won them over. His Dr had advised him not to sing that day. This was recorded in 1985, nearly 40 years ago! All acts, no matter who, were restricted to 18 minutes. Off camera, there are like traffic lights. At I think it was 16 minutes, the orange light came on, at 18, the red light came on and the power was cut!
If you look at the bottom in the middle when Freddie drops his arm for the final beat of We Are the Champions, you can just see the red light come on. Freddie timed it perfectly.
Could you imagine going to one of Queen's Concerts. By the time it was over you'd be as high as a kite. The Songs were Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You and a rousing We Are The Champions closed their set. This was all before Mercury and guitarist Brian May stole the stage during the show's grand finale with their acoustic rendition of Is This The World We Created?

GREAT REACTION, YOU 2. I could tell, you were REALLY feeling it. Truly, a LEGENDARY performance. I saw it on MTV, in July 1985, age 11, and We expected no less from QUEEN.
No frontman in rock commanded an audience like Freddie did. No one. Not Plant, not Daltrey. No one. I had just graduated from college two months prior to this concert. Myself and my brother (who had seen Queen twice before at MSG) were glued to the TV when it was their time to come on. They took our breath away. To say they stole the entirety of Live Aid is an understatement. Even Bob Geldof admitted it.
I was a young solderer in the US army at Ft Bragg NC (Now Fort Liberty) on the Saturday this show aired. I was at a rather noisy, rowdy cookout at a Friends house. The TV was on and a few were gathered round it watching the acts . Then QUEEN took the stage . Five minutes after they began performing everyone at the party was magnetically drawn to the television where we all sat in total silence and these Magical masters of music wove their legendary sounds. After they finished we all sat a few awkward moments in silence until somebody finally said " Holy $#*!....that was freaking unbelievable". Little did we know then , that it would become known as the greatest Live Performance of all time, and Freddie's little interaction with the audience as he did his famous " AYYYOH" would become known as the "note Heard Round The World". There never has been since , and doubt there ever will be again the likes of Freddie and the Boys. I still tear up today listening to his Pure passion , and musical love that he soaked every word and note with . RIP Great Freddie ...You were truly the "real thing" , while many others just aspired to be the momentary thing.

Me, I attended their concert on June 14, 1986 at the Vincennes racecourse in Paris (I am French)
When Freddie arrived on stage, I remained amazed by his magnetism, I was in the second row, yet I had the impression that he was only singing for me, it was strange, Freddie seemed to me at the same time very far and very close, something mysterious, indefinable, emanated from his being.
It was at this concert that he first wore his crown and court coat, he was literally royal.
Brief ! Since this concert, I'm a real Queenie.

And I was just like - "yeah.. I'll just watch a bit of it since I've seen it all before so many times". And AGAIN I was forced to watch it all. You just CAN'T stop enjoying this performance. Freddie was a force of nature. He had it all. A true stage man who could make you feel that he was singing just for you, even if you are standing in a crowd of 100 000 people.

FYI, it's a guy called Spike Edney who fills in on piano/keyboards from the wings while Freddie is standing up singing, and sometimes plays rhythm guitar and provides extra backing harmonies. He's sometimes called the unofficial fifth member of Queen.

You're spot on. I saw this live on tv on the day in '85 and have watched the replay regularly. I saw Queen in 1978 on their News Of The World tour but they're live aid and Rio performances were exceptional.

Almost the whole set…there‘s one more song at 9:48pm with just Freddy and Brian on stage…..Look for a U-Tube version that‘s at least 27 minutes long. It should begin with 2 Bobbies doing the intro…..then fast forward to the end…the screen will go black after Freddy performed the last song…a time stamp will appear showing 9:48pm. Freddy and Brian come back on stage and perform a final song by themselves……Cheers
