The "Witch -looking girl." Siobhan Fahey(who was in Bananarama,) was married to Dave Stewart from " The Eurythmics" ...apparently, she had drunk quite a few "Refreshments." while waiting all day to perform her part in this video...but she carries it off perfectly.

This song was and still is incredible. Marcella Detroit has fantastic vocal range, and Siobhan Faheys bass vocal is hauntingly beautiful. If someone told me they didn't like this song thats clearly a red flag they have absolutely no soul let alone taste in music. 30 years later and they still perform it.

"Stay" remained at number 1 in the UK singles chart for 8 weeks in 1992!
Shakespears Sister was conceived as a solo project by Siobhan Fahey, a one-time punk turned chart-pop singer who had left the successful British/Irish girl-group Bananarama in 1988, due to disillusionment with the group's musical direction.
Bananarama are well worth checking out. They have some great 80s songs including, "It Ain't What You Do (It's The Way That you Do It)" (1982), "Really Saying Something" (1982), "Shy Boy" (1982), and "Cruel Summer" (1983). 😊

Siobhan Fahey talked about jow drunk she was while filming this... 'We only had a day for the shoot. Most of it involved recording Marcy singing, so by the evening I was getting bored - but also the clock was ticking. At 8pm, I hit the vodka and by the time we filmed, I was, shall we say, in high spirits, in full deranged splendour. '

Stay with me - I was in a coma once, in my thirties, and on life support. It's interesting and it sticks with me, what I recall of that time. I came very close to not making it back "to my own world". The brain does create some interesting imagery, but there were two real-life people whom I remembered and focused intently on, whilst lost at sea (I was in a dark ocean, I recall) in the "other world". I knew full well that I was on the brink and my entire goal was to stay with them. Or, perhaps, to come back to them, FOR them.
In my "experience" while deeply unconscious, which was quite visceral, I swam away from the darkest part of the sea that I felt and saw myself in, as hard as I could, thinking only of them and nothing else. Happy ending - I woke up, and that was ten years ago. So it makes sense more now acutely than it ever did until that happened.
However, backing up a bit: when it was first released, I also loved this song just to try and practice my singing range with as a teenager. I bet my family and everyone in the street, the neighborhood dogs etc really appreciated 16-year-old me trying to nail those notes...

Interestingly you guessed the story and the characters with utter accuracy for this song. And yup gives me chills every time I hear it. Try others like ‘You’re history’ ‘I don’t care’ ‘Emotional thing’ ‘The Trouble with Andre’ or ‘Goodbye Cruel World’ All are fab.

Your reaction to this epic song is amazing.
The song 'stay' from the album 'hormonally yours' is actually about 2 aliens 'cat women from the moon' marcella detroits character has fallen in love with an earthing and he is returning back to earth but she wants him to stay, Siobhan Fahey on the other hand wants him return to earth, untill finally her lover wakes and stays with her.
Marcella and Siobhan Fahey told this in an interview where they got inspiration from 1950's sci fi movies.

In certain circles, the general consensus is that this song - - and video, especially - - is about addiction. As it begins, the man is unconscious, apparently from an overdose.
As his life hangs in the balance, Marcella Detroit serves as the physical manifestation of his addiction, using phrases such as "You must only think of me" and "When your pride is on the floor, I'll make you beg for more".
Siobhan Fahey represents the Angle of Death (or at the very least, Death itself) with her lyrics speaking about the afterlife.
As the 2 of them are physically fighting over his fate, he emerges from his unconsciousness, and ultimately, chooses to "stay" with is addiction (Marcella Detroit’s character). At the end of the video, you can clearly see that Siobhan's character has accepted his decision but knows she'll eventually return to escort him to the afterlife at some point (probably the near future).

Now check out the Ghost cover featuring Patrick Wilson from the Insidious Red Door...used on end credits...Patrick knows how to belt it out as he was Raoul in the Phantom of the Opera movie. Tobias harmonizes and comes in as antagonist

Marcella Detroit definitely has an awesome vocal, she had a full 5 octave range which is pretty rare I think. 👍🏻

The duality struggle in all of you, the light v the dark, good v evil, or what I feel the 2 women were representing love, stay with love not a person asking for him not to go unconscious or to the dark side 🙏❤️

Please, please react to Laura Love, "I'm A Givin' Way," "Voices," "Bang Bang," "Less is More," or any of her other works. She helped start punk rock, then developed a style she calls "Afro Celtic." Research her and her dad's influence on music, you'll be amazed if you've never heard of her! She has gray hair now, but is still writing and singing about social issues.
