She's Death coming for him. They fight for him. He comes back. But I love Death's eyeroll, like, " Fine. I'll get you both later anyway."
This 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
My dad was in a coma for 3 1/2 months after a massive motorcycle accident from my experience I stayed by my dads side in hospital and that was me your not going anywhere dad. My dad said he could hear me and in a coma state he fought his way back . So never give up , thank the lord and Help with what ever needs to be done in hospital to take care of your loved ones , my dad in his 70’s now alive and well enough we still have few little medical issues but you learn how to take care….
No way?! I've been wanting people to react this song forever. 🤘
Quite a few people have reacted to it over the years
The album was called “Hormonally Yours” as both members, Siobhan and Marcella were pregnant during the recording. This song was by far their biggest hit spending 8 weeks at number one in the UK.
Fantastic album ❤
The "Witch -looking girl." Siobhan Fahey(who was in Bananarama,) was married to Dave Stewart from " The Eurythmics" ...apparently, she had drunk quite a few "Refreshments." while waiting all day to perform her part in this video...but she carries it off perfectly.
I think her performance would not be what it was if it weren't the case. She was Foine, though...
That would explain the very convincing stumble at one point! 🤔😅
This song was and still is incredible. Marcella Detroit has fantastic vocal range, and Siobhan Faheys bass vocal is hauntingly beautiful. If someone told me they didn't like this song thats clearly a red flag they have absolutely no soul let alone taste in music. 30 years later and they still perform it.
Marcella has some serious writing chops , people don’t realise she wrote with Clapton.
"Stay" remained at number 1 in the UK singles chart for 8 weeks in 1992!
Shakespears Sister was conceived as a solo project by Siobhan Fahey, a one-time punk turned chart-pop singer who had left the successful British/Irish girl-group Bananarama in 1988, due to disillusionment with the group's musical direction.
Bananarama are well worth checking out. They have some great 80s songs including, "It Ain't What You Do (It's The Way That you Do It)" (1982), "Really Saying Something" (1982), "Shy Boy" (1982), and "Cruel Summer" (1983). 😊
And Robert de Niro’s waiting. Got in with S.A.&W after they heard Dead or alive.
@@spruce381Absolutely! And De Niro has stated in interviews that he can "talk Italian." He learnt Italian from his father, Robert De Niro Sr., who was fluent in the language. 😊
Didn't Bananarama also do a version of Blue Velvet's "Venus"...? 🤔
🙃🐨🇦🇺
The funny thing is your calling her voice bananas. The "demon" woman in this was in a 80s women's singing group called Bananarama.
Yeah, watch 'Cruel Summer' ! Bananarama
She sure changed, doesn't look anything like she use to!
I'm ashamed to say I didn't know that 😬
@@Kellie_Curtis-Holmes I'm nearly 50 I would be ashamed if I didn't know and remember that lol
Didn't know that. Cool
Siobhan Fahey talked about jow drunk she was while filming this... 'We only had a day for the shoot. Most of it involved recording Marcy singing, so by the evening I was getting bored - but also the clock was ticking. At 8pm, I hit the vodka and by the time we filmed, I was, shall we say, in high spirits, in full deranged splendour. '
I think her being hammered made her performance even better for her character.
Pregnant and drunk, really not a smart choice.
@@PebblesBlue Kid was born in 1991, video was recorded in 1992
@@PebblesBlue They don't record the music video the moment they record the song for the album. Music videos at the time often came months after the initial studio recording.
Excellent Song!!! This was a huge hit and her voice is fantastic!!
Shakespears Sister were a brilliant group - Try Goodbye Cruel World, I Don't Care, Heroine, Dirty Mind, Hello (Turn your radio on) they had great tunes and a fantastic backstory. They fell out and didn't speak for over 20 years, then reunited and toured together.
Hello is epic.
Don't forget The Trouble With Andre
@@traduseuse5895 I'm old school so know how to listen to an album unlike people today lol, there is not a bad track on the album.
Your History is a great song from them too.
Great song! Marcella Detroit is a force of nature. That voice!
The whole album this is from is just fantastic.
I remember when this song came out and I have always loved it. The vocals are Amazing!!!!!
As you are curious about their name, it came from a song title by a highly influential British band called The Smiths, who in turn got the title from a feminist essay by Virgina Woolf.
Given the nature of this song video, you may be interested to know that The Smiths also had a song called "girlfriend in a coma"
Siobhan's part is what made me fall in love with the video. Especially since she was drunk out of her mind on a bottle of vodka because she had to wait so long during filming 🤣
Black Pegasus said Siobhan is bananas. What an amazing coincidence that he used that word, as she was a member of Bananarama
Goosebumps. Classic song. Outstanding.
Stay with me - I was in a coma once, in my thirties, and on life support. It's interesting and it sticks with me, what I recall of that time. I came very close to not making it back "to my own world". The brain does create some interesting imagery, but there were two real-life people whom I remembered and focused intently on, whilst lost at sea (I was in a dark ocean, I recall) in the "other world". I knew full well that I was on the brink and my entire goal was to stay with them. Or, perhaps, to come back to them, FOR them.
In my "experience" while deeply unconscious, which was quite visceral, I swam away from the darkest part of the sea that I felt and saw myself in, as hard as I could, thinking only of them and nothing else. Happy ending - I woke up, and that was ten years ago. So it makes sense more now acutely than it ever did until that happened.
However, backing up a bit: when it was first released, I also loved this song just to try and practice my singing range with as a teenager. I bet my family and everyone in the street, the neighborhood dogs etc really appreciated 16-year-old me trying to nail those notes...
I've just done the same at 0348 in Scotland... I died in 2016... explain on one of my bonkers posts 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
One of my favourite songs of all time. I remember buying this entire album on CD and played it on a loop. Over and over again. Both have sensational voices. Interestingly you guessed the story and the characters with utter accuracy for this song. And yup gives me chills every time I hear it. Try others like ‘You’re history’ ‘I don’t care’ ‘Emotional thing’ ‘The Trouble with Andre’ or ‘Goodbye Cruel World’ All are fab.
This song should have part of a whole musical, the whole theme. I loved the melodrama of it and the subject matter.
This song is very close to my heart as i died, they dragged me back and put me in a chemical COMA i woke MYSELF from a my body few tolerance to the drugs keeping me asleep to heal from a lot! ❤❤❤❤
I'm still here 9 years in from that muhahaha
I saw them live in 1992. The performance was even better than the studio version.
This song is on my 80s-90s playlist
The man is in a coma, and the first woman is the lover not wanting him to die, the "evil" woman is death trying to take him. Thus stay is stay with me, don't die.
Brilliant group beautiful voices
One of my all time favourite songs ❤
A brilliantly weird video…Siobhan was just brilliant in this
Excellent choice. Ms Thang coming down the stairs is my favorite part
I read that they called it 'Hormonally Yours' because both Siobhan (Death) and Marcella were pregnant when recording it. You should check out their songs 'You're History', 'I don't care' and Hello (Turn your radio on). They are all so catchy and original.
Absolutely love this track!
Get to the end, he's in a coma dying... the next part will blow your mind!! And you'll understand 🤣 🤣 🤣 ❤❤❤❤❤
My sister’s name is Siobhan. SHE-VON. The most popular female name in Ireland-it’s old Irish (Gaelic). Our mom wanted her daughters to have unique names so we’d have a leg up on life-as women in current society. My name is DRIEUX. Pronounced DREW. Always loved our names. Thanks, Mom. (And by the way, our brother is JOHN).
Spelt differently (the Scottish Gaelic way) but I love my name. ;)
"I kinda got goosebumps...cuz im scared" Made me laugh out loud for real 😂🤣 Its a great song! I liked it back in the day!!
I have this maxi single and the whole album from the 90's as a CD. I still like it to listen to.
Greetings from northern Germany 🇩🇪♥️
siobhan fahey was in bananarama.
she was married to dave stewart from eurythmics.
she is a very good songwriter and she wrote songs for bananarama.
she wrote a song named (young at heart) for bananarama and a group named the bluebells covered it and took it to number one in the uk.
the name shakespear's sister was the name of a song by the smiths.
marcella detroit the one with the magnificent voice is an american songwriter who wrote (lay down sally) for eric clapton.
Great song
Your reaction to this epic song is amazing.
The song 'stay' from the album 'hormonally yours' is actually about 2 aliens 'cat women from the moon' marcella detroits character has fallen in love with an earthing and he is returning back to earth but she wants him to stay, Siobhan Fahey on the other hand wants him return to earth, untill finally her lover wakes and stays with her.
Marcella and Siobhan Fahey told this in an interview where they got inspiration from 1950's sci fi movies.
Shakespeares sister are amazing, huge fan of them.
Pegasus you made me scream with laughter on this one. Amazing song.
I had this on the tape cassette I used to keep hitting rewind in my car her voice is so haunting. I was obsessed with her voice. Oh how I miss the 80’s & 90’s I have the best memories That’s when concerts were affordable seen Pink Floyd in San Diego in the Golden Circle and paid $99 per ticket. I’d love to too see them react to Iron Maiden (Run to the hills)
Ohh takes me back to my youth this one, beautiful 😍
Ok, so Hormonally Yours is like a TOP 3 favorite albums from the early 90’s!! lol I have had a romance with this song since it first came out…having flatlined twice and come back,I’ve always felt a personal connection to the story.this video is freaking FANTASTIC!! Thanks for checking it out, you’ve nailed the story line BP!! Great job!🎶❤️✌🏻
This was one of my favorites when I was about 13, and I had totally forgotten about it till you made this video. I had them up on my walls and everything. Hearing it now, I remembered all the words!!!
This is probably the best ever example of a video adding a whole new interpretation to a song! Great reaction!
I’m so happy you reacted to the Shakespeare Sisters I love them!! I always thought they were so weird but their music always brought me back to them. Their music’s crazy good!
Marcella Detroit is an amazing singer. The second singer used to be in the Bananarama
The most beautiful and talented depiction of the grim reaper ever seen ❤❤❤❤
I dont see her as a human lover that Deaths comes to battle, but Life itself. Especially with the lyrics, "In the silence of your room, In the darkness of your dreams, You must only think of me, There can be no in-betweens, When your pride is on the floor, I'll make you beg for more." & Life would embrace you like a parent, or a lover, holding on to you for dear life, not wanting to loose you, cause they want you to live, for that is life.
this is one of my favs
Marcella is a brilliant singer. I believe her vocal range is 4 1/2 octaves
This was one of my favorite songs growing up! I hadn’t heard it for years until a few weeks ago, and am excited for you to experience!
This song...... fire 🔥 📛
One of the coolest clips and song ever when it came out
This was the 1st time seeing the video. The song, however, we used to sing it in school chorus to warm up our vocals. Love the song, especially in the lower register (I was an alto).
A UK legend
Big Narstie - the voice
Samples this and I always hear it now in a hiphop way
I love this song so much. Your reaction was great! It's a really unique song that not a lot of peo0le think of.
i remember when this first came out and watching it on top of the pops
This was effing massive when i was younger. Hated it on release, grew to love it. Now its classic.
Their voices are beautiful. I have the album on cassette. It was released in 1992, I loved the whole album.
If you like Marcella's falsetto, you definitely gotta check out another of their hits "You're History" 1989, reached number 7 in UK charts and the notes she hits on that are seriously crazy!
Last time I saw this video was on MTV in the 90's 😀Love the song
This song always made me think of the support system around someone trying to detox from heroin. You must only think of me, there can be nothing in-between, make it back to your own world etc.
I was waiting for the change up, your reaction did not disappoint :D
Thank you for entertaining me through the night again, while i can't sleep... This is death, not Sci fi
They're awesome ❤❤❤😢😢😢❤❤❤
It's a gorgeous song ❤
The singer won the UK competition called popstar to opera star where old popstars where taught to sing opera... She blew everyone else away...
I remember this video freaking me out back in the day 😄. BTW girl with short hair sang back up for Eric Clapton at one point. And I’ve read the other chic was drunk when that was filmed which helped with her “unhinged” appearance.
I love this song 🎵
Marcella at her highest notes uses whistle voice. The vocal folds close completely on her highest notes which in this song is F6,. Most operatic sopranos top out at C6.
In my opinion the song represents the fight against addiction
I haven’t even watched it yet, but nobody knows them and I’m so excited to see your reaction!!!
One of my favorite one hit wonders for sure.
Monster 80s 90s song. Walked in and out of many relationships because of this song. 😂😂
Don't you just love it. You're trying to have a spongebath and Bellatrix Lestrange just barges in! lol
Was number one in the UK for over 2 months!
Definitely would love to see you react to their song “you’re history” that song omg was our song back in the day!
Stay is a beautiful song, her voice kills me every time I hear it… very glad you didn’t outright hate it lol
My mom LOOOOOVED this song, so I’ve known about it since I was a little kid and it was one of those weird ones that I was certain no one else ever knew about. This is thrilling. ❤❤❤❤
I’ve heard said that Siobhan (angle of death), was so bored waiting to film her part that she got drunk hence the performance - which I think is great (the performance not the being drunk) - she was married to Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics - he had another group who put out a great album - Alicia’s Attic ❤
The Ghost cover with actor Patrick Wilson is sooooo good too!
Siobhan Fahey who played Death, was in the girl group Bananarama, She was married to Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics. Apperently she was also drunk at the time of recording.
Love this - it was well before its time.
Before becoming known as Marcella Detroit, Marcy Levy toured and worked with Eric Clapton, singing backing and group vocals, along with duetting. She can be heard on "Lay Down Sally", "Wonderful Tonight", "Promises" and "The Core" (co-writing the latter two). She also sang with and wrote songs for Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Belinda Carlisle, and Al Jarreau, plus numerous other artists.
I really love how your reactions are becoming more and more eclectic…… and I hesitate to do it, many of the recent reactions are for music I loved back in the day 😂😊😊💜💜💜💜
Zowsers! Gave me the chills!
Siobhan (evil one) was not only member of girl band Bananarama, but married to Dave Stewart (one half of Tourists/Eurythmics with Annie Lennox).
Marcella Detroit's first solo album is wicked good.
She is Death ! Fighting for your soul 😱😵
Now please watch the official video of Stay by Sugarland. It’s a different song with the same title.
In certain circles, the general consensus is that this song - - and video, especially - - is about addiction. As it begins, the man is unconscious, apparently from an overdose.
As his life hangs in the balance, Marcella Detroit serves as the physical manifestation of his addiction, using phrases such as "You must only think of me" and "When your pride is on the floor, I'll make you beg for more".
Siobhan Fahey represents the Angle of Death (or at the very least, Death itself) with her lyrics speaking about the afterlife.
As the 2 of them are physically fighting over his fate, he emerges from his unconsciousness, and ultimately, chooses to "stay" with is addiction (Marcella Detroit’s character). At the end of the video, you can clearly see that Siobhan's character has accepted his decision but knows she'll eventually return to escort him to the afterlife at some point (probably the near future).
Oh My Goth Dancing Club Dayz!! Fishnets & Cages!!
Now check out the Ghost cover featuring Patrick Wilson from the Insidious Red Door...used on end credits...Patrick knows how to belt it out as he was Raoul in the Phantom of the Opera movie. Tobias harmonizes and comes in as antagonist
Marcella Detroit definitely has an awesome vocal, she had a full 5 octave range which is pretty rare I think. 👍🏻
Love this song! Always searching for reactions! Thanks and you’re welcome
The duality struggle in all of you, the light v the dark, good v evil, or what I feel the 2 women were representing love, stay with love not a person asking for him not to go unconscious or to the dark side 🙏❤️
Siobhan Fahey wanted to do a solo project after leaving Bananrama (a pop group) at the suggestion of her then other half Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) she teamed up with Marcella Detroit and formed Shakespears sister. Should check out the track Your History
OMG again your eyes and facial features when she started singing! I’m scared she’s a little obsessive and I’m scared 😂😂😂😂😂😂
BP! You hitting it out the park!!
I would absolutely LOVE it, if you would do a reaction to "Sleeping Satellites" by Tasmin Archer 🙏🇬🇧 pleeeeeeease? 😁 I think you'll love it!
Please, please react to Laura Love, "I'm A Givin' Way," "Voices," "Bang Bang," "Less is More," or any of her other works. She helped start punk rock, then developed a style she calls "Afro Celtic." Research her and her dad's influence on music, you'll be amazed if you've never heard of her! She has gray hair now, but is still writing and singing about social issues.
Dam I loved it long time ago watching MTV Russia
Meatloaf also gave a story when he sang. Love this song.
Early 90’s (90 or 91) one of them is previously from Bananarama and is married to Eurythmics Dave Stewart
