That eye roll from the one portraying personified Death near the end. Pure "Fine. He's yours for now. He'll be mine in the end anyway. Everyone is." right there. Beautiful.
Fun fact, Siobhan was back in her room with the crew when Marcella was filming her part. she ended up drunk by the time she filmed her part which you see on the video here. Thank god for that alcohol because her performance was out of this world.

“Still a lot of song left, maybe some surprises” man had no clue what kind of surprise he was in for 😂😂😂 I remember the first time I heard this back in the 90s and being like WHAT JUST HAPPENED
Siobhan is the woman with the long hair, that comes in near the end of the song. She is playing the role of "Death." She is actually a member of the pop group Bananarama, from the 80s/90s. She is married to Dave Stewart from The Eurythmics.
Dave Stewart was married to Sobian (Shevon)Fahey at one point. Shes lady death in the video. She was also part of a pop girl trio called bananarama back in the 80's 💜
I think the funny thing is Siobhàn's performance as an almost angel of death is heavily influenced by how much she drank, waiting for her scenes to be filmed
Siobhan (sounds like Shivahn) is almost unrecognizable under her goth makeup as the Angel of Death, but she was already part of a girls group in the 1980’s: the trio Bananarama.

Still gives me goosebumps. I love the way it’s all put together. Always on my playlists. Marcella’s high notes are everything in this and Siobhan is wonderfully over the top. Brilliant 🤩
God I’m so lucky I was born in the 80s and I experienced such classics when they were released. I wonder how teens will react one day to the crap that’s on charts today. Great reaction!
Jesus, I remember my best friend & I spending hours getting dressed up like these two & playing out this video when this song dropped. We were soooo obsessed, and it's still brilliant. Fucking iconic!
The first woman is caring for her lover who's on a life support machine, hence her pleading "stay with me". The cruel, crazy, manically laughing woman who then appears represents death coming to take the man away. The two women fight over the man, until finally, and miraculously, he returns to consciousness. Death realises she has been deprived of a victim this time, and so just shrugs it off and retreats. She knows that all mortals have their time, so for her it's just a case of waiting.
I believe that you are correct, but I see Marcella Detroit as the personification of addiction, and Siobhan Fahey as the angel of death trying to release the man from his demon lover. In the end, the man comes back only to fall into the arms of his addiction once more. Death rolls her eyes as if to say that she’ll be back soon.
Siobhan started Shakespears Sister as a solo project when she felt herself got pushed to the background in Bananarama and also the band has gone into a very commercial pop direction. During the recording of the first album their common songwriter friend recommended the joint work with Marcella (aka Marcy Levy, earlier co-writer-musician of Bob Seger, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin and Robin Gibb) what became a duo performance after the success of 'You're History'. The third key person here is Jean Guiot aka Dave Stewart of Eurythmics who was Siobhan's husband at that time. The first album was closer the '80s new wave pop sound thanks to the fresh mood of Siobhan though the "silent movie look" advanced the gothic style of the 2nd album (with this song) inspired by experience of life and death (their pregnancies, death of close persons) and the '50s cult sci-fi B-movie 'Cat-Women on the Moon'. This video was one of the really great moments of MTV of those days. I couldn't decide I'm in love with Siobhan or I wanna be like her 😊 And of course I always tried to sing the highs of Marcy (the big childhood challenge next to the voice of Freddie Mercury, Bruce Dickinson and 'Die Hölle Räche' of The Queen of Night 😄)
Marcella's voice is so beautiful on this, i was about 5 or 6 when this song came out, she always reminded me of my mum the way she looked, this song always got me in the feels as my mum left my dad when i was 2 and always wanted to be with her, still gets me to this day
"I think I popped my cherry, guys." - I fell out of my chair, into the floor! LMFAO!!! Your reaction is both hilarious, AND priceless. Thinking back to my first time hearing/seeing the video, I think my jaw dropped as well. Definitely one of my all-time favorites! ❤🔥
Shakespeare's Sister were a MASSIVE kick in the nuts to the music industry! Even back then, there was no-one else like them - and I don't think there is still, even today. Other bangers from them include 'I Don't Care,' 'You're History' and 'Hello (Turn Your Radio On).' Dave Stewart was actually Siobhan Fahey's husband as well (the one who played the Angel of Death.)
Shakespears Sister are a brilliant duo! They split up and didn't speak to each each other for about 23 years! They reformed a few years ago to much critical success. You should listen to Goodbye Cruel World, Hello (turn your radio on), You're History, Heroine, Run Silent, Run Deep - there 's a great back catalogue

Marcella Detroit(real name Marcy Levy)was a backup singer for Eric Clapton in the late ‘70s. Her voice can be heard in the chorus of his hit 1978 song “Lay Down,Sally”.
Oh dear, confession time: I was OBSESSED with this song and its video when it came out In 1992, so I can tell you a few things about it: 1. The song reached No. 1 in the UK singles chart and stayed there for eight consecutive weeks, a feat that has not been equalled or surpassed by a female band since. To be honest, it topped the charts for so long that, by the time that it was pushed off the top spot by another song, I think that we were all (secretly) a little relieved. 😓 2. I absolutely LOVED Siobhán Fahey’s performance in the video as the ‘Angel of Death’ - and so was a little disappointed to discover, years later, that she had allegedly been totally drunk whilst performing (having allegedly downed an entire bottle of vodka whilst waiting around on set to perform). Oh dear, and here was I thinking that all that fantastic ‘witchiness’ had been entirely down to pure talent (but I still love ya, Siobhán!). Whatever, Siobhán’s sublime ‘witchiness’ on camera here has, in my view, never been surpassed - before or since! 👏 3. The video was banned in Germany for - believe it or not - inciting witchcraft. 🧙♀️🪄🐈⬛👻 I’m not joking. Remember that we’re talking 1992 here, not 1492. The banning in Germany is all the more ironic given that the director of the video, Sophie Müller (who was a friend of the band), is German. 🇩🇪 😀
Shakespeare's Sister are one of the best duos to come from the 1980s/1990s.....Sacred Heart and Hormonally Yours still sound as fresh as when they were first released...Stay is an epic song and one of their best. Fahey and Detroit are just sublime together.

Siobhan Fahey (the girl with the contrasting dark voice) was formally from Bananarama who were a girl supergroup of the 1980s. He's knocking on death's door the guy, and Siobhan Fahey is "Death"
Hands down one of the best songs and most iconic videos of the 90s. It peaked at #3 in my home country, Australia, which is a travesty. It should have been #1 for 8 weeks or more like it was in the UK. Still totally epic 30 years later.

The Princess had to save the Prince from the wicked witch and I loved it so much. Still do. I had the pleasure of showing my little sister and my daughter and they fell inlove with it as well. 😻 Shakespears Sister is also an amazing name for someone as poetical as these girls. So glad you liked this song. Will always be one of my favourites.
Siobhan is Irish, I don’t think Irish people have been giving credit for what they have done in British music, oasis, the smiths, dusty Springfield, boy George, Kevin rowland. Irish people changed the face of British music
I’m so happy you love SS. I had a gay man crush on Siobhan for years. Pure camp brilliance!! I’m always here for her eye-roll at the very end of the vid. If you want to hear more, try You’re History, Run Silent, Goodbye Cruel Word , Hello (Turn Your Radio On) and It’s a Trip.
Interesting (or not) story. I was at an Ad*m Ant gig a few years ago, and before the gig, I was standing in the foyer and caught a woman's eye. There was an overly long eye lock and smile of recognition between both of us. She mouthed "Hi" and I mouthed it back. I recognised her but couldn't for the life of me think who it was. A few weeks later, probably while changing batteries in a torch or something, it came to me. Siobhan Fahey! The only unanswered question is, who the hell did she think I was?? This song never fails to make my eyes leak.
I know Marcy as a personal friend and I can honestly tell you not only is she an incredibly gifted musician but a truly beautiful human being. I love this video. STAY is a masterpiece and absolutely timeless ❤
I’ve loved this song ever since I heard it in the 90s. I’ve showed it to my friends and family who weren’t very receptive to it. So I am glad there are others who still love and those who found it recently true music lovers
7:56....yes because this was from a time when music was great , musicians played their own instruments and you actually cared who was number 1 in the charts ....Shakespears sister is one of the most underrated bands ever ..they have a big catalogue of music most of it is zmazing
So great that you reacted to them!! And I knew EXACTLY at what moment you'll loose all-your-whatsoever..! ;)) This was a big hit back in the early 90s and I remember very well when I first heared and saw the video, it blew me away! On that album ("Hormonally Yours") were a few other great songs, but I think "Stay" was and is their dramatic and emotional highpoint.
So glad you enjoyed the song. It’s amazing! Siobhan is not the one with short hair, she’s the one with long hair playing the Angel of Death. Siobhan was one of the original members of Bananarama and you also read the song writing credits which include Dave Stewart (Eurythmics). He and Siobhan were married in 1987 and were still together when this song was written, divorcing in 1996.
Omgosh you're so adorable listening to this. I remember my dad making me listen to it as a kid and always feeling mesmorised by the vocals and music. It always sounded so mystical.
Amazing song, brings back so many memories and gives me goosebumps everytime i hear this song. I am new to watching these reaction video's, i like the way the younger generations respond to the music of my youth. Keep up the great work Dereck. Also Siobhan Fahey was member of Bananarama...
I love watching reactions to this song and video, everyone always has such a strong reaction when Siobhan comes in with the middle 8! They're definitely worth checking out, Goodbye Cruel World and Hello (Turn Your Radio On) are both amazing songs with brilliant videos to match
I love your emotional reaction and wasn’t surprised, but glad you felt it deserved the credits. This is one of the most classic songs and videos ever! The chemistry between Siobhan and Marcy is amazing, (even though they had their differences and split, I think this helped fuel this great vid) no other artist/s could ever take this and top it, it’s theirs for life. It still brings shivers down my spine now as it did when I first heard is back in 1991. I have this on 7” vinyl, and love playing it over and over again. As Marcy hits that I think) D sharp its spine tingly, her voice is unique and pure, and Siobhan’s sultry voice, with her, great portrayal of the she devil is unbelievable. Eight weeks in the UK charts at no1 says it all. This is talent at its very best. I’m so glad they are back together again (2019 onwards) and. thanks for showing the world this is still as evoking as it was 31 years ago!
Watching you discover this song brought me to tears. It took me back. I was a teenager when this came out and now 50. I love watching you emitionaly react to the songs of my youth. Thankyou. Xxx
FYI: The name 'Shakespeare's Sister' comes from the famous essay by Virginia Woolf where the topic of gender bias is investigated. The literal phrase comes when the author says that if William Shakespeare had a sister with the same talent as he had, then that talent would never be known to the world. As a woman she would not be even allowed to demonstrate her talent, and even if she did she talent would not be recognized as such.

The name of the demonic one is pronounced 'Shuh-vawn'
British music around this time was at its peak, so many great bands before and after this. Nothing beats British music... Nothing!
Marcella was not British…
@@Rosannasfriend Siobhan is also Irish, though British raised
Siobhan is Irish, I don’t think Irish people have been giving credit for what they have done in British music, oasis, the smiths, dusty Springfield, boy George, Kevin rowland. Irish people changed the face of British music
Hahahahaha! I love this song! Glad you liked it!🎉🎉🎉
The band's name was inspired by the title of a song by the The Smiths : "Shakespeare's Sister"
one of my favorite dark ballads. the voices and the instrumentation are 🔥
I was so excited to watch this video as soon as I could. I absolutely knew you would love it.
One of the best ballads of all time
One of the best music videos ever made, in my book.
Siobhan Fahey was a member of the band Bananarama and left to form Shakespears Sister
One of the most iconic tracks and interesting duos of the 90s. As people have said Hormonally Yours was a great album.
I know Marcy as a personal friend and I can honestly tell you not only is she an incredibly gifted musician but a truly beautiful human being. I love this video. STAY is a masterpiece and absolutely timeless ❤
2:58 😅😂 it’s lovely as a Brit watching Americans react to this and at this exact point and I always say you ain’t heard nothin yet mate 😅❤
Achingly beautiful song, Marcella Detroit should have been more famous in the mainstream, incredible voice.
The whole album is great and such a vibe. I played this cassette (!) to death. Their voices are so different but work so well together.
Apparently, the 2nd singer was very drunk when she sang this. while waiting for her singing part she went to the pub in her costume and got drunk
Your reaction to this song is the best I've seen so far..I think I've watched it a thousand times over. 😂
My go to song when I’m drunk … and OMC - How Bizzare ! ❤😊
I've always love this song, nice choice !
So great that you reacted to them!! And I knew EXACTLY at what moment you'll loose all-your-whatsoever..! ;))
This was a big hit back in the early 90s and I remember very well when I first heared and saw the video, it blew me away!
Thist song should have won the grammy in it's time release, at least a nomination.
Loved this song when it came out
❤❤❤
Omgosh you're so adorable listening to this.
I remember my dad making me listen to it as a kid and always feeling mesmorised by the vocals and music. It always sounded so mystical.
This is EPIC, so 1992 - for me -
I loved singing this song, both singers, just to train my voice.
It's so so good!
One of the most underrated duos ever. Musical heaven ❤️🔥
The long haired girl is Siobahn and she is originally from Bananarama.
One of the best music videos ever!
Very surprising but in a good way. I enjoyed it.
I thought it might have been after the Smith's song
I LOVE THE REACTIONS TO THIS SONG, when fahey drops.......i remember buying this single when it came out and still is an amazing record
Siobhan Fahey was an original member of Bananarama and is the ex-wife of Dave Stewart from The Eurythmics.
Don't forget-The Tourists as well.
Siobhan is the one that seems to be potraying the angel of death and is pronunced as Sher-varn
I love this song! Slays 💗💗💗
Siobhan was drunk as a skunk when she filmed this! Lol
