Summarizing this here for people wanting to check back 1) Add a bit more knee and ankle flexion at address 2) Add reach with left hand 3) Knee movement past the ball horizontally 4) Slight 'wolf' trigger, slighty shifting weight into front foot before back swing to promote more fluidity (Ian is at 115mph from 110 at this point) 5) Focus on getting right hip up and around through allowing left knee to further drop past the line of the ball 6) More speed in the take away (116mph) 7) More lead heel separation from ground when taking away. 8) When arms are chest high on downswing slam and stomp down on your left heel to promote weight transfer (119mph) 9) Push with both legs towards the target at finish All these points got to Matt to 121mph What a Beast combo
Good compilation. However, point 8), I think there's a mistake with "downswing". It's supposed to be bsw? See Tyler @ 9:20. You need to stomp down already during the latter part of bsw. to change pressure, right? If you wait to stomp down until downswing, it's too late.
Tyler is a beast! Ever since he's become my coach, my ball striking and speed went up, with 0% overspeed training. I'm. Now adding in over speed... Hit a drive 320 my first day out. Awesome stuff!
Wow. This is wild. I just went out and tested it with a swing speed radar. Went from mid 90s in my driver to hitting a peak of 108mph. Thanks Tyler and Ian. Learning something new everyday!
you guys just proved to be the best UA-cam channel in golf. Thank you so much for all the hard work in creating solid material which is simple to understand and apply.
I can't believe how much this tip has helped my ball striking! After watching this video, I implemented lifting my left heel and slamming it back down when my hands were chest high. This really helped me shift my weight, thus clearing my hips, and make solid contact consistently. The move toward the left side to start the downswing is also very helpful. This replaced an older swing trigger that never quite worked. Now I press forward and without thinking just let my swing happen. Back and through with more speed and fluidity creating longer, higher shots. Thanks!
This is unbelievable... I'm a 166-168 ball speed guy on GC2. Just spent 10 minutes applying these tips and achieved 176 ball speed. Previous personal best was 172.
Absolutely loved this! Been lifting the lead heel lately and it’s been helping me gain a little bit! Looks like Matty has a new speed competitor in Ian!
Usually a title like this is clickbait but not in this case, good to see a genuine process with guys who know what they are talking about, something for everyone here.
I now have some refreshing new range sessions ahead because of this. Can't wait for tomorrow. All I have left to do is find a TXG stand bag to promote this channel!
Regular watcher of the channel in recent months but just found this delving through the archives. Immensely useful for me here in UK lockdown to have that kind of step by step breakdown of improvements for speed that i can work on with a net and a Mevo. Need to sort my clubface control first to cut out the occasional massive slice but then this is my focus.
congratulation Ian. Very good video with proper relation between instructor and student in a web teaching too. Amazing I think your giving us some hopes. Yesssssss
I'm a big dude who used to be a home run hitter in baseball, but I could never seem to get my club head speeds as high as I would expect in golf. Always hovered around 110-115 kinda like Ian does. Can't wait to go try some of these out the next time I'm able to use a launch monitor and see if I can free the lower body and hips up a bit for some more speed. The stomping the heel thing also makes a lot of sense and brings me back to the baseball swing feelings. Awesome video. You guys are pumping out some valuable information completely free on UA-cam! Love it.
Congratulations Ian! Great video! Tyler has great content! I have been a subscriber since Matty had the short game session with him to optimize his wedge play.
As if vices are not enough...you guys have completely changed the game of golf and the way I approach it. The result is dropping from a 12.2 to a sub 10 this season so far. Thanks so much!!!
Holy cow! Seeing a long drive challenge coming TXGs way! Headed to the range later to get some speed back. Completely accessible information, thanks guys!
The faster your swing gets the more it looks like sam snead. Forward press, the one piece takeaway, the heel lifting and slamming. All Sam Snead-isms. LOVE IT! It seems to me that the old swings are coming back into style because of the speed they produce. The old guys HAD to swing like that because it was the only way to get 280+ out of a persimmon head. We got modern equipment and the game went in a different direction. I like how things are coming full circle.
Brilliant video, amazing how a couple of little changes just free up so much speed!! Tyler is brilliant, I’ve been following him for a while and his instructional videos are top class.
This is by far the best swing video I’ve ever watched. Went to range this morning, I’m typically a 146-148 driver ball speed guy when I nut one, hit a few warm up easy swings with the hip push to start and felt good. Then started picking up lead heel, was getting 118 BS with PW! Once fully warmed up hit a few drivers over 165 ball speed. One was 171 faded! Taking it to the course tomorrow 🙏
Awesome! I’ve been looking for ways to improve speed without destroying my strike quality. I may have stumbled on to a few of these concepts at various times Anxious to combine them all
This is great. Back to the future golf swing. Splay the feet, forward press, lift the lead heel and slam it down to start the downswing. Problem is that when you’ve got a grooved ( I use the term loosely 😂) move of resisting the turn with your lower body, it takes a lot of practice to relax the hips and lift that heel. Kudos to Ian here for being able to do that and still retain some semblance of accuracy. Great vid again guys
great video. Awesome : can you explain the end move " push up and towards the target with both legs through to finish" PLEASE. Thanks a lot for this content
Love the video and thanks for showing us the content. I'm 63 and old man time is slowing me down. Tried what was taught in this video and I found it does free up the fluidity of motion and even with range balls I noticed more distance as I worked on the move. Look forward to more follow up videos on Tyler's training. The "little push" or trigger move really does have a positive effect. Didn't Gary Player make a similar move in his day?
Great video guys thank you. I watch your channel every night you have a life long fan love the content and the interaction between you guys. Best golf channel on UA-cam!
Went to the local simulator (full swing sim) and tried this out tonight. Previous personal best 121 mph club speed. Normally 116-120. Topped at 126 tonight with the swing speed after just a few swings, This is crazy... Problem is I seem to push myself out of position or something and kept catching the bottom toe of the club. Not sure how to find the center with these moves, but the potential is undeniable... Thank you for the video guys. I watch them all and love the content you put out.
As a child I used to get told off for lifting my left heel off the ground and slamming it down. And yet at age 12 I was driving it past my father's golfing mates. Today at age 43, after 2 months of swing speed training during lockdown, I hit a 324 yarder up hill and a 335 yard down hill drive. Your video makes me think I had the right idea early on. Thanks for sharing.
This makes a ton of since to me. I'm definitely going to give this a try. Watched another one of Tyler's video's were he was getting the motion starting forward when hitting irons and it feels so right when trying it just standing without a club and swinging. Can't wait to get to the driving range and trying it.
This is the first time it could possible work for me. It’s always for like 20-30 handis that have that to gain easy. Someone like me, them it’s hard to find. So I’m happy to see this. Good job.
Working on bits of this at a time. Particularly letting my left heel raise/left knee move behind the ball and them planting the left heel. Haven't measured my speed but it's working wonders with my transition!
Just wow. What an absolute cool video. Loved it. I game 115 mph club head speed. I can only imagine adding 10 more. Absolutely impressive. Cheers boys.
Greg Grant I was in the same boat as you. Recently I watched a few videos from Shawn Clement (Toronto area) who teaches the same ideas. I’m consistently in the mid 90’s now. I can see more gains in the one move shown here, stomp the lead foot before the backswing reaches the apex. I’m heading to my practice net now to see how it goes. PS: I’m 65 and hitting the ball like I did 20 yrs ago. Thank you TXG for presenting this video.
INCREDIBLE. Title threads (aka clickbait) like these are 99.99% of the time bogus. This was so legit. I love this place. And all that made so much sense. Can't wait to try these. I'm around 107-109mph so hopefully I can get lower tier "Tour" club head speeds. lol I'm looking forward to even better results once you get more reps in.
Thumbs up and ❤️. I have been A watching your videos 24/7 now and I just love what I learn. Love Matt’s swing. Love Ian’s Brains and ability to teach and explain. And I love Matt’s laughter. 😁 it makes me happy that such a humble guy can smack 350 yard drive any given day 👍🏼❤️😍😇
Awesome video! Its all about when to transition in the downswing and to hit the ground hard with the left foot. Go work on getting the strike above the cg and you will hit it even further.
Matty Boi probably having the quiet thought to himself, "Well there goes my big advantage over Ian." All kidding aside tips from a few of Tyler's videos have played a big part is getting a large amount of my old speed back over the last 6 months. Was stuck at an average swing speed of 108-110 for over a year when making just a normal swing and 114-115 when giving it everything I had. Now my regular swing is 117 MPH and 122-123 when I give it everything. Still a little ways to go. Before some injuries I experienced while in the Army several years back my average driver speed was 124 MPH and I could get up to 131 MPH when I really gunned it. Quickest I was ever caught at on a launch monitor was 136 about 11-12 years ago. Hopping to get back to my old averages.
tont allcock I’m not a pro but I am someone with those aspirations. I’ve been able to play even very tuff courses out to the lengths of 6,700 to 6,800 yards very effectively for quite some time but that wasn’t until after I lost my greatest tool in the bag due to injuries and that was power. The reason I want, and am working so hard to get, my old power back is that no matter how good I ever became with only 98-99 MPH of club speed I would never be able to get past any local developmental tours once the average hole length got past a certain point. And it’s not even par 5’s or even half of the par 4’s that would be the concern on these long courses. It’s the other half of par 4’s and the long par 3’s that they play. No matter how good I was or could ever get I would not consistently stand a chance hitting my driver only 250-255 one golf courses that long. There are par 4’s on even developmental tours I would struggle to reach in 2 not to mention the PGA Tour itself. My goal is to work myself up to an average drive of 300 yards with no accuracy loss from when I hit it 250 and still be able to take it deeper when the risk is worth the potential reward. I know it’s possible because I’ve had a long game before that was even substantially longer than this goal and just as accurate as I’m expecting. But back then I had nowhere near the amount of skill from 175 yards and in, especially the 30-125 yard range, that I do now. To give you an idea of how good they actually are I am -57 under par for my last 11 rounds of golf and that includes one over par round played in horrid conditions. And that’s still not good enough. I’m getting there. Progress is being made. But I’m not there yet.
tont allcock if you look at strokes gained and understand that then you will understand the want for more club speed. At club championship level yes you don’t need to carry far. National need a bit more ANY tour golf need a lot more
@@TheMuffs2004 any other tips to share to get more distance apart from the ones in this video? I just had my first taste of a trackman driver fitting yesterday and hoping to work on going past my 325 yard record. This is a screenshot from trackman of my drives from yesterday ibb.co/5vxDcyL
Im new to the channel but to be honest you already tied Rick Shiels on the first position for my favorite UA-cam channel (don't think that matters much but..) Thanks for the great content!
Good job 👍 I would definitely thrown in a couple of shanks and it was really interesting to see your ball flight straighten up on some of those bombs. One observation was that rory’s feeling is exactly the same as you’ve just described so definitely on the right path!
Ian definitely has a lot left in the tank because his take away is very deliberate... it will take some time for it to feel normal but the speed of the take away is key for sure. Good stuff!
Excellent tips!! Thanks for a great video. Cant wait to try them out. I notice this video is from May 2020 - is there a follow up after you (Ian) have had a chance to practice the tips more on your own?? Or another question: What is Ian's ball speed today with the driver over a year and a half later? Continue to get higher, went back down to comfort zone after a few months, etc... Would be very interested to know if any of these tips are still in your drive sequence.
Everyone is going to be able to tell the golfers who watch TXG videos when all of a sudden they are hitting the ball way father than they ever have! This will be something I will incorporate into my practice routine! Admittedly I don't want to share this video as I want to be smashing it past all my friends! XD Awesome video as always!
I had a lesson with my coach just over a week ago to try and regain some lost speed. He talked about lifting the left heel, greater hip turn (right hip back more), and shoulder turn. I picked up all the lost distance and probably gained some additional distance.
I did love it. Used to do those things when I had a younger body. Also been wanting to tell Ian about his swing for months.... Good to see and congratulations..... Respect Tyler!
From 89-90 max to my personal best so far 99mph club head speed!! I've applied everything except the left foot stomp to it(I have to do a few steps at a time). I might be able to get to 100-105 and I thank you all for this video. I'll never be as fast as you guys but I will be able to hang with or beat guys in my circle now.
awesome congratulations! i’m a junior golfer(14 years old) and i’m playing in a 14-18 year old division this summer so if this can help me 10-15 mph i will be so happy!! i hope it does! i hope it continues to help you as well!! have a great day!!
Ian you had a 115mph CHS in the old ball vs new (2 man scramble on 18th) so you definitely had the potential for 120+ but loving the easy movements to create extra speed. Along with Mark Crossfield doing the catalyst and my overspeed training I'm looking at getting close to 120mph as well
👍🏻 I think what I found was the effort level was so low to get that 121mph versus the fitting videos I was literally at the end of my effort level to get anywhere near that. I didn’t feel like I was at max exertion level which was great. When I practice this more I fully expect to be at 125mph in a couple of weeks.
Ian your backswing start has always looked very controlled, and I reckon Matt's does now more than it did. Interesting that almost rebounding into the backswing adds momentum to the whole swing.....reminds me of Jack's head turn and Gary's forward press
Amazing!!! I have been seeing bits on this sort of movement but nothing really as clear as this. The interesting part of this through golf swing evolution is that swings and movements are now heading back a bit more to how the guys in the late 70s swung it with left heel lift and big hip turn. I grew up with serious golf through the Faldo era where the idea was lower body moves as little as possible while upper body created coil and consistency so think I will find it hard to get this body movement thing happening but what an interesting thing to try when I can get back on a simulator and see some numbers
Wow, Ian that is very impressive! Totally new swing thoughts put into practice with incredible results! Of course, I'm getting fit for a new set top to bottom this week...may need to incorporate some of this stuff before then so I don't have to redo it later! I tend to hover in the 110-112 range with about 160-165 ball speed. Way to go!
Loving this lads! Trying to get my swing speed up to around 105 so these ideas will really help and the possibility of 30 yard gain without buying new equipment.. Wow
Seems to be like a forward press to start and then let it fly. Kind like what we see with Matt Wolfe start to his swing tho he is a lot more animated. I'm just getting into week 16 with speed sticks and it's getting to almost the stomp down lead foot drill. I will try this out and boom it! Haha great work guys!!
Summarizing this here for people wanting to check back
1) Add a bit more knee and ankle flexion at address
2) Add reach with left hand
3) Knee movement past the ball horizontally
4) Slight 'wolf' trigger, slighty shifting weight into front foot before back swing to promote more fluidity
(Ian is at 115mph from 110 at this point)
5) Focus on getting right hip up and around through allowing left knee to further drop past the line of the ball
6) More speed in the take away (116mph)
7) More lead heel separation from ground when taking away.
8) When arms are chest high on downswing slam and stomp down on your left heel to promote weight transfer (119mph)
9) Push with both legs towards the target at finish
All these points got to Matt to 121mph
What a Beast combo
Good compilation. However, point 8), I think there's a mistake with "downswing". It's supposed to be bsw? See Tyler @ 9:20. You need to stomp down already during the latter part of bsw. to change pressure, right? If you wait to stomp down until downswing, it's too late.

Still doing it?
@@michaeldonaldson8508 yes but not as often. Concentrate on playing and shirt game work

This really validates the value of online coaching. Hard to replicate an in-person lesson but the results here speak for themselves.
This is a fun video to see Ian unlock that speed potential! Tyler is a great communicator. More of these please!!
One of your BEST vids to date. Gonna def be practicing this at the range soon as this rain stops

@@TheMuffs2004 I think my days of getting anywhere near those speeds are long gone along with my sanity and hair. Would be happy with 105 these days!
tont allcock if you look at strokes gained and understand that then you will understand the want for more club speed.
Ean you have a great swing too. Nice going picking up the swing speed!
Im new to the channel but to be honest you already tied Rick Shiels on the first position for my favorite UA-cam channel (don't think that matters much but..) Thanks for the great content!
I watch tons of your videos - they just keep getting better and better. This was amazing stuff. Keep it up.
Ian your swing looked great during the video. Amazing results!
shawn clement also teaches the full turn back and stomp through. grt video
This was awesome. Great tips. C'mon who does want an extra 10mph club head speed. So will this be one of the most watched videos.
Good stuff!
Freaking AWESOME!!!!!! Well done Ian! Been a fan of Tyler for a while; he has lots of outstanding info on his channel. A must subscribe.
Ian in beast mode!!! I like the ideas..knee movement and foot stomp!!!
You learned all those changes and incorporated them whilst hitting the ball straight. Great effort to all.
Would be very interested to know if any of these tips are still in your drive sequence.
oh man, I can't wait to try this at the range
Would you suggest using the initial knee push for irons too, so the right hip gets going?
Sincerely thank you guys for this!! Simple things to add, I know I’m leaving some speed on the table
My best is 89 mph lol.
Very impressive improvement! I have to try these to see if I can move my MPH up. Well done!!
I grew up with serious golf through the Faldo era where the idea was lower body moves as little as possible while upper body created coil and consistency so think I will find it hard to get this body movement thing happening but what an interesting thing to try when I can get back on a simulator and see some numbers
this is amazing... can't wait to try it. nicely done Ian!
Way to go!
This was awesome! not normally your wheelhouse so good on you for bringing in Tyler! Who by the way killed it! 👏
Congrats Ian!! Brilliant work gentlemen, and thanks for sharing....awesome stuff!! I’m subscribed to Tyler’s channel as well!
Amazing as always! Thank you for this invaluable video! Regards from Mexico!
Congratulations Ian. That's amazing. Swing looks great. What's your sequencing?
I love every video you guys do... but this is my favorite.
Great stuff! So fun taking this to range and playing around with it .
Loving this lads! Trying to get my swing speed up to around 105 so these ideas will really help and the possibility of 30 yard gain without buying new equipment.. Wow
Way to go Ian! My new TXG Limited Edition Peter Milllar head cover is what has helped me get an extra 10 mph. 😂.
🙌🙌🙌
😂😂. 👍🏻
What a fun video!!!! I'm gonna watch this weekly!
This was awesome boys! Wow Ian well done and Tyler thank you!!
Wow got a driver lesson on wed, will be trying some of this 👌
Seems to be like a forward press to start and then let it fly. Kind like what we see with Matt Wolfe start to his swing tho he is a lot more animated. I'm just getting into week 16 with speed sticks and it's getting to almost the stomp down lead foot drill. I will try this out and boom it! Haha great work guys!!
This is some amazing info to back up a claim of 10 mph gain so quick. Thanks guys!!
That was amazing. That was a hell of a good golf lesson. Really great.
well that was easy! wow, seriously impressive stuff. i’ve been working with ty this year thanks to his short game video with matt. ty is a swing guru.
Wow... I’m making swing changes at the minute, but will definitely try this once I’ve got things settled in. 💪🏻
