The whole idea of a restomod is to take a classic car and modernise it. They've done very little to improve on the original, yet they're asking an absurd amount of money for it.
There's always going to be rich people with money who are stupid enough to buy it. But really they have done way too little improvement to justify the price.

@@aksone5243 , "Because, that's basically a new car then with worse safety and build quality".......a proper restomod resolves all quality issues, they're built to an extremely high standard and are much safer as a result. This restomod has been built to a poor standard. No thought has gone into it. I spotted quite a few quality issues while watching the video and matt pointed out some items which should have been altered but weren't.
This is a bit of a joke. If I’m paying a company 120-170k on car that has been completely restored and modded I would expect windows and doors to open and shut properly….
@@amir1836 the old ones would’ve been unsafe and had a lot of known issues I have a 68 series 2 with the same engine as that range just mines a 3.5, the new ones are really safe but still have issues (especially the 4cyl engines) but they are no where near as bad as people like to claim on the internet.

It costs a lot less to give an original RR a “Singer Style” treatment than it does an air cooled Porsche. That Ed Pink Flat 6 is probably $100k on its own. My point is that there’s almost nothing special about this over a stock car besides a little tuning and a mildly improved interior. Otherwise I would just mistake it for a clean stock RR.
its too expensive for the limited attention to detail they put to it imo. usb chargers out the back with green leds that looks like a cigarette lighter charger? a generic sony head unit? nothing custom about the dash other than wrapping it in leather?(sorry also the phone charger) no struts for the hood? like matt said, no electric seats and no fuel theft protection? not even electric windows work properly, interior lights are inadequate, sunroof suncover fitment is subpar and the list goes on... And the thing is, some stuff are really nice, but it feels like the rest is not finished yet. I get that it was made 40 years ago, but it was "restomodded" in 2020s... I would rather call this a modified diy project offroader bUiLd

I have to say that's not the finest fit-out I've seen and Kingsley have shown a remarkable amount of laziness considering the price point of that finish. I'm not impressed at all.
ABS… 100 quid won’t fit a single wheel sensor if it’s bespoke like it would have to be on a 1981 Range Rover, brake bias valve on the other hand is a lot cheaper!
I love restomods. I love the whole concept of breathing new life into great older vehicles, ICE or EV. This though, is by far the most underwhelming and overpriced restomod Ive seen to date. It appears very little attention to detail, for relatively little gain, and for insane money - highly disappointing. Any competent home mechanic could buy an old Range Rover, get the frame galvanised, bolt on the fancy bits and motor, get a spray and fit a stereo, pay a leather trimmer for the interior and produce this vehicle for what? A fifth to a third of this money? Call it £60k. If you’re paying for a professionally built restomod at this sort of mental price, it needs to come with attention to detail and a build quality that screams wow thats awesome, far far in excess of home built.. this isn’t it. Above all - what a shame.
Very poor attempt at a restro-mod especially as this was trying to sell the company, no abs, windows don't function properly, poor power output considering the engine size, poor fitment on the roof lining. It would of been better if it was converted to electric for the price they are asking

You can buy your Sandero's and buy one of those nice leather chairs and pop that in, and it would be almost as nicely designed and comfortable. I'll take those Dacia's any day over this bizarre contraption.
The thing with restorations is you either restore the car back to its former glory using exact parts preferably as genuine as possible, no after market gadgets. Or you keep the look and soul of the car visually but add modern technology so it can compete with the cars of today. This car is neither of them its not suitable for either market, the old school guys won’t like its new features and the new school won’t like the lack lustre old features. And for £170k?? Crazy.
I appreciate the work on the interior but the fit and finish needs work. Sticking sunroof shade and window operation in general. Otherwise it's just a lick of paint and some aftermarket addons. It's embarrassing they are asking that price.

This is a good car for the rich to collect and store in their garage. I can't really see any other use for it, just imagine driving this car somewhere even remotely off the beaten path.

Well if you can afford to buy it, running costs should not be an issue. But just look at it. It looks rugged, sturdy, classic so no footballer will buy one. Another reason to buy it over a modern one.
What an overpriced pointless car. From an era when the only time you heard the word ‘Quality’, it was written on a tin of sweets. Without ABS you’ll soon be up someone’s behind on the motorway. I’d give Kingsley £60k for it.

I’ve had several generations of Range Rovers throughout the years, and nothing to this day, beats the “command viewing” of the Classic County. The high sitting position and the large windows gave it a safari tractor feel. 1990 County, 3.9, in Westminster Gray, she was relatively slow, a gas guzzler, left abstract paintings on the driveway with her various fluids, and had service receipts that was as thick as a telephone book, but I sure do miss her, one of the most iconic designs in automobile history.

what does the word "awesome" have to do with JDM fans? I was born in 92, and that was a very normal way of complimenting something, or saying you were having a good time in general, when I was growing up. I mean, it may have eventually become a bit too common of a phrase to be _literally_ true, but it's only a slight exaggeration of the word "awesome", so idk why some people have such a problem with it. Every generation and locality have at least a few words/phrases of slang that are unique to them, but I really don't think that calling things "awesome" is one, it just makes logical sense in the modern day with how common it is to slightly exaggerate things.

Oh Mat, can of worms open! :-) First of all, it is truly awesome to see the RR Classic becoming a collector (shame they smashed one in the new Bond movie) and as an owner of an 87 Vogue who drove it 1200k’s in a single trip (stock/original standard) I can tell you they drive amazingly well and relatable to a modern car if the bushes and shocks are all good. No bumpy ride, but nice and smooth. Love your show and reviews, but as an ex 996 C4S and Jimny owner I also also owns a RRC….get yourself one before you cannot buy another for sensible money!….I.e. 2024 the RRC will be unaffordable to most.
One feature on the car you missed Matt, the hole at middle of front bumper, used to be for starting/cranking the car manually with the tool in the back😄

You should see what some other companies charge for just a restoration and the value of 3 door range rovers has skyrocketed anyways, I’m personally not surprised but I’d much rather a later 5 door over finch Range Rover.

Love classics and resto mod vehicles. This one looked like it was done to a level more like 40k not north of 125k. Everything you touched was fragile and temperamental. In the background of the some of the scenes you could see components flap and move as if barely attached. The 7k brakes loved like they where fitted to hubs that had been wire brushed and roughly painted. Basically it appeared the attention to detail wasn't there for its price tag. But I'm sure its a perfectly usable car or be it with all the fragility of a normal range rover classic.
This is a cool (and expensive) restomod :D. It kind of reminds me of an old Aston Martin DB5, both may not be that quick by modern standards, but look and are cool :). Could we have a comparison with the new Range Rover on and off road later in the year? :)

Hi Matt…… The Kingsley RR is a bit over the top!!!! My daily drive is a 1990 3.9 V8 4door which I’ve owned since new!!!! It’s got approximately 280,000 kms on the clock….. it has the same four speed auto as the Kingsley, same dials and gauges, but it drives and handles like a peach 🍑!!! I can steer with one finger!!! It’s so cruisey and relaxing to drive!!!! The very original RR had the side mirrors on the castles on the front bonnet!!!! I’ve got a 1972 suffix A Range Rover and that is such a brill vehicle!!! To change from second to third gear it takes two minutes!!!! But it will take off in second gear‘cause of all the torque!!! Originality for me all the time!!!! Compared to some restomods out there, this seems to be poor on what you get for your cash. Other than that, the lack of ABS seems to be just odd given the monumental amount they think four callipers and discs are worth. Its one of the most significant steps on car safety and to leave it out seems a bit useless IMO.
I once crashed my car due to abs malfunction. I was on dual carriageway and European left hand drive lorry didn’t properly check his mirrors before overtaking another lorry in front of him. I had to slam my brakes, but due to abs sensor fault my front left wheel locked up, car started spinning out of control hit the side rail on the road even my wheel broke off. Got lucky to escape without any injuries.
Doesn't look like it to me looks like an LED lamp in an original housing. This is never legal. If a country has lower standards that allow such a thing it Doesn't make it any better.
Sickeningly overpriced. I own a 1990 Range Rover Classic. Ok, it doesn't have all the new leather etc, but it has ABS, the windows open and close at the same speed and you get the same audio pleasure from the V8, but I only paid £2,800 for it!
170k and it’s got no ABS, same old 4spd gearbox, The windows/sunroof aren’t smooth to open. Just seems like they’ve chucked some leather and LEDs at it
man i'd love to see one of these with a bigass 454 chevy motor, or a 351 ford, or any big block mopar heck even a 383. 5.0L is a big engine over there in britain, but in america we go much larger lol and this seems like the perfect candidate for a big lumpy rumbling V8 : D although i would option it without any touchscreens, and i'd pay extra to get rid of those wheels. i remember lots of Rangies used to have color matched rims? It doesn't have rev limiters It doesn't have fake exhaust pipes It doesn't interrupt you while talking to the camera by answering a voice command you never gave. And It has better body panel gaps than any tesla........ It is the best car you have reviewed in the last year!!!!!!!!!😂😂😂
No ABS and same size breaks on both front and rear? Windows that don't open properly? For 170k? This is just a company trying to take advantage of the restomod hype...Unfortunately, contrary to other restomods this is a rather poor effort...

This is such a rip off. 170k, and no ABS, a 4-speed gearbox, a old (even if tweaked) V8 (so fuel consomption... not great), no electric seats, stiff sunroof panel and back windows, no backseats release in the trunk, no change to the locks nor to the fuel tank, faulty electric windows motors... This is just a cheap retromod, and not at all worth 170k. I mean, the only thing they did was retune the engine, reupholstered the interior (16k for the extended leather package!!!) and added an aftermarket infotainment system. This is a disgrace.

I had one of these back in the day, also in white (WITH the vinyl obviously;) that's where my love affair with Range Rovers began (I now have the L322.) I loved that Mk 1; the all round visibility was awesome and the "castellated" corners at the end of the bonnet made parking easier, in the days before sensors. Mine was actually a Mazda diesel conversion when I bought it (they became popular because with the 3.5 V8 it was a serious gas guzzler.) Unfortunately it was a bit of a botch job and I ended up needing a replacement, which was pretty simple as the scrapyards were full of rotting Rover SD1's with still the same 3.5 V8 engine, still in good running order. I picked one up for £50! But I had to sell the car soon afterwards, as I was averaging 12mpg with a 20 mile daily commute. In my opinion, purely aesthetically speaking, the original 2 door Mk 1 and the Mk 3 (L322) are the two best looking versions of this vehicle.
£170,000 for: -270HP & 4 Speed Transmission -No ABS -Windows, Doors, Sunroof covers, etc. that don’t open correctly (Poor Quality all around) Is like they just threw some leather and some cheap parts bin stuff inside and said “That’ll do”. They done the absolute bare minimum here. This is not a Restomod, it’s a Restoscam.
My dad used to have one, it was 1974 and he had in until 2011. He regrets why he sold it and looking for an other one,but not like this fancy one.the real old one. I won’t forget I cried until we got back to home when he sold it. Oh Matthew this review brings a lot memories to my family.Thanks for that.😩😩😩
Fun fact: There are no straight lines in the original Range Rover bodywork. CSK designed everything to curve in at least one direction. Probably why those bumpers look wrong, they’re too straight.

The whole idea of a restomod is to take a classic car and modernise it. They've done very little to improve on the original, yet they're asking an absurd amount of money for it.
There's always going to be rich people with money who are stupid enough to buy it. But really they have done way too little improvement to justify the price.

This restomod has been built to a poor standard. No thought has gone into it. I spotted quite a few quality issues while watching the video and matt pointed out some items which should have been altered but weren't.

Buy a old Range Rover and take to restoration garage and you will get a better quality for half the price.

It costs a lot less to give an original RR a “Singer Style” treatment than it does an air cooled Porsche. That Ed Pink Flat 6 is probably $100k on its own. My point is that there’s almost nothing special about this over a stock car besides a little tuning and a mildly improved interior. Otherwise I would just mistake it for a clean stock RR.
its too expensive for the limited attention to detail they put to it imo. usb chargers out the back with green leds that looks like a cigarette lighter charger? a generic sony head unit? nothing custom about the dash other than wrapping it in leather?(sorry also the phone charger) no struts for the hood? like matt said, no electric seats and no fuel theft protection? not even electric windows work properly, interior lights are inadequate, sunroof suncover fitment is subpar and the list goes on... And the thing is, some stuff are really nice, but it feels like the rest is not finished yet. I get that it was made 40 years ago, but it was "restomodded" in 2020s... I would rather call this a modified diy project offroader bUiLd

I love restomods. I love the whole concept of breathing new life into great older vehicles, ICE or EV. This though, is by far the most underwhelming and overpriced restomod Ive seen to date. It appears very little attention to detail, for relatively little gain, and for insane money - highly disappointing. Any competent home mechanic could buy an old Range Rover, get the frame galvanised, bolt on the fancy bits and motor, get a spray and fit a stereo, pay a leather trimmer for the interior and produce this vehicle for what? A fifth to a third of this money? Call it £60k. If you’re paying for a professionally built restomod at this sort of mental price, it needs to come with attention to detail and a build quality that screams wow thats awesome, far far in excess of home built.. this isn’t it. Above all - what a shame.

The thing with restorations is you either restore the car back to its former glory using exact parts preferably as genuine as possible, no after market gadgets. Or you keep the look and soul of the car visually but add modern technology so it can compete with the cars of today. This car is neither of them its not suitable for either market, the old school guys won’t like its new features and the new school won’t like the lack lustre old features. And for £170k?? Crazy.

I’ve had several generations of Range Rovers throughout the years, and nothing to this day, beats the “command viewing” of the Classic County. The high sitting position and the large windows gave it a safari tractor feel. 1990 County, 3.9, in Westminster Gray, she was relatively slow, a gas guzzler, left abstract paintings on the driveway with her various fluids, and had service receipts that was as thick as a telephone book, but I sure do miss her, one of the most iconic designs in automobile history.

what does the word "awesome" have to do with JDM fans? I was born in 92, and that was a very normal way of complimenting something, or saying you were having a good time in general, when I was growing up. I mean, it may have eventually become a bit too common of a phrase to be _literally_ true, but it's only a slight exaggeration of the word "awesome", so idk why some people have such a problem with it. Every generation and locality have at least a few words/phrases of slang that are unique to them, but I really don't think that calling things "awesome" is one, it just makes logical sense in the modern day with how common it is to slightly exaggerate things.
Very interesting to see even though it is extremely expensive. I would love to see some of the classic cars EV conversions if you could do that. Thanks

Oh Mat, can of worms open! :-) First of all, it is truly awesome to see the RR Classic becoming a collector (shame they smashed one in the new Bond movie) and as an owner of an 87 Vogue who drove it 1200k’s in a single trip (stock/original standard) I can tell you they drive amazingly well and relatable to a modern car if the bushes and shocks are all good. No bumpy ride, but nice and smooth. Love your show and reviews, but as an ex 996 C4S and Jimny owner I also also owns a RRC….get yourself one before you cannot buy another for sensible money!….I.e. 2024 the RRC will be unaffordable to most.
One feature on the car you missed Matt, the hole at middle of front bumper, used to be for starting/cranking the car manually with the tool in the back😄

Love classics and resto mod vehicles. This one looked like it was done to a level more like 40k not north of 125k. Everything you touched was fragile and temperamental. In the background of the some of the scenes you could see components flap and move as if barely attached. The 7k brakes loved like they where fitted to hubs that had been wire brushed and roughly painted.
Basically it appeared the attention to detail wasn't there for its price tag. But I'm sure its a perfectly usable car or be it with all the fragility of a normal range rover classic.
This is a cool (and expensive) restomod :D. It kind of reminds me of an old Aston Martin DB5, both may not be that quick by modern standards, but look and are cool :). Could we have a comparison with the new Range Rover on and off road later in the year? :)

My daily drive is a 1990 3.9 V8 4door which I’ve owned since new!!!!
It’s got approximately 280,000 kms on the clock….. it has the same four speed auto as the Kingsley, same dials and gauges, but it drives and handles like a peach 🍑!!!
I can steer with one finger!!!

I’ve got a 1972 suffix A Range Rover and that is such a brill vehicle!!! To change from second to third gear it takes two minutes!!!! But it will take off in second gear‘cause of all the torque!!!

Compared to some restomods out there, this seems to be poor on what you get for your cash. Other than that, the lack of ABS seems to be just odd given the monumental amount they think four callipers and discs are worth. Its one of the most significant steps on car safety and to leave it out seems a bit useless IMO.
More classic car reviews would be great!

I once crashed my car due to abs malfunction. I was on dual carriageway and European left hand drive lorry didn’t properly check his mirrors before overtaking another lorry in front of him. I had to slam my brakes, but due to abs sensor fault my front left wheel locked up, car started spinning out of control hit the side rail on the road even my wheel broke off. Got lucky to escape without any injuries.
Fact : CARWOW found in 2014 and now it has 6.66 M happy family 👪💛💯

It depends where you live. As long as the LED conversion kit meets your countries safety standards, they should be fine to install.
Doesn't look like it to me looks like an LED lamp in an original housing. This is never legal. If a country has lower standards that allow such a thing it Doesn't make it any better.
Sickeningly overpriced. I own a 1990 Range Rover Classic. Ok, it doesn't have all the new leather etc, but it has ABS, the windows open and close at the same speed and you get the same audio pleasure from the V8, but I only paid £2,800 for it!
A good video idea is either to do a drag race with a Brabus or review it.
170k and it’s got no ABS, same old 4spd gearbox, The windows/sunroof aren’t smooth to open. Just seems like they’ve chucked some leather and LEDs at it
man i'd love to see one of these with a bigass 454 chevy motor, or a 351 ford, or any big block mopar heck even a 383. 5.0L is a big engine over there in britain, but in america we go much larger lol and this seems like the perfect candidate for a big lumpy rumbling V8 : D

Doesn't drive well, doesn't go fast, doesn't stop well, isn't economical, costs a fortune to buy, is white, is made of tin foil and balsa wood. Other than that it's brilliant.......
I love restomods so much. Retaining the classic looks while also adding modern parts and technology.
This is such a rip off. 170k, and no ABS, a 4-speed gearbox, a old (even if tweaked) V8 (so fuel consomption... not great), no electric seats, stiff sunroof panel and back windows, no backseats release in the trunk, no change to the locks nor to the fuel tank, faulty electric windows motors... This is just a cheap retromod, and not at all worth 170k. I mean, the only thing they did was retune the engine, reupholstered the interior (16k for the extended leather package!!!) and added an aftermarket infotainment system. This is a disgrace.

I had one of these back in the day, also in white (WITH the vinyl obviously;) that's where my love affair with Range Rovers began (I now have the L322.) I loved that Mk 1; the all round visibility was awesome and the "castellated" corners at the end of the bonnet made parking easier, in the days before sensors. Mine was actually a Mazda diesel conversion when I bought it (they became popular because with the 3.5 V8 it was a serious gas guzzler.) Unfortunately it was a bit of a botch job and I ended up needing a replacement, which was pretty simple as the scrapyards were full of rotting Rover SD1's with still the same 3.5 V8 engine, still in good running order. I picked one up for £50! But I had to sell the car soon afterwards, as I was averaging 12mpg with a 20 mile daily commute. In my opinion, purely aesthetically speaking, the original 2 door Mk 1 and the Mk 3 (L322) are the two best looking versions of this vehicle.

Fun fact: There are no straight lines in the original Range Rover bodywork. CSK designed everything to curve in at least one direction.
Probably why those bumpers look wrong, they’re too straight.
