After watching all of tug of wars i can definitely say Matt's an amazing driver but just not experienced enough with off roading. Off roading needed to be done with a light foot and keeping traction in mind, being heavy footed will just make you loose traction ever more than a car which is standstill. Yianni did a good job and he knew matt would be heavy foot and waited for him to loose traction as always.
I think you'll find that the TRUE off readers like landcruisers are only MADE in 4wd with low range. Whereas land rover makes a lot of 2wd and fraud-by-fours.

2 big problems with this. Side fixed towing spreads the power less evenly across the wheels. Traction is limited so unless there's more grip on the side the tow is hooked to, you will lose traction more easily than then same car using a centre mounted tow hook. 2nd problem is Matt puts down too much power when he thinks he's losing & makes the car lurch sideways, making a sideways drift inevitable. 4 cyl or not the Toyota's big disadvantage is the tow mounting.
Toyota landcruiser 200 series with v8 would crush but you got a terrible Prado landcruiser with a 4 cylinder diesel come on, making it look like a Land Rover advert carwow I expected better to be honest
That's the beauty of that Land Rover Terrain Response system. It just digs in and doesn't let the wheels spin up so that when the VW, Audi and Toyota systems eventually fail, the Land Rover system just pulls away like it's nothing. It's very impressive to be fair.

Yianni was playing the smart game: Wait until Mat starts spinning, and then drag him. In 4WD Tug of War, that is the best strategy. What would be interesting is to see some sort of tractor pulling competition between these 4.
Hang on a second, the wheels didn’t start spinning until Yanni started to actually accelerate, that is not a problem with the driver, more so the abysmal TC on the Toyota, Audi and Volkswagen, the systems they have couldn’t control the power going to wheels, hence they started to spin, losing traction and ultimately losing the tug of war. If you look at the LR, it’s wheels started to spin but within a second the TC kicked in and allocated power elsewhere. Take a look at 6:00 - 6:07, it shows the TC of the LR controlling the power to wheels, something all of the other cars didn’t do.

Agreed, especially that part between 7:53 and 8:46 was way too long. I had to skip past it. This video felt like 6 minutes of content stretched into 10 minutes, just so they could get the video past the 10 minute mark. This was Driver's victory, not vehicle's loss. Not saying that the Discovery is not capable but on each pull, Yanni was waiting until Matt started to loose traction and started spinning to apply any throttle. Then he was applying low and steady throttle as he should, instead of Matt's reaction to floor it.
How did he know Matt broke traction? The only reason Matt broke traction is because the LR started to pull the other way, it was at that point Matt broke traction and lost (badly). So please don’t come here with ur BS excuse!!!! The TC system in the LR is clearly far superior to any of its European or Japanese competitors!
Not quite that simple though. In the LR you can floor it (and I'm fairly sure Yianni was) and it won't just light the tyres up. Instead it just tries to find traction. Its not the same as the traction control based systems of old.

I think it's more the Land Rover Terrain Response System knows when and which wheel to lay down the torque to. Mat explains it quite well in the SVR vs G-Wagen tug of war video.
That's completely correct. This is staged and the outcome is easily decided in this particular situation. Every time it starts with the "victim" vehicle tugging first, on the grass and mud, until it starts spinning its wheels. Spinning its road-biased tires on grass and mud makes them SLICKS. At this point the disco just steps on the gas a little and off it goes, since the other vehicle is already slipping and has slicks on it. Simple. And stupid. If they swap the disco (waiting car) with something else, it will end the same way. The waiting car will always win this particular set-up. Also a tug-of-war is one of the dumbest "tests" out there. It shows absolutely nothing in terms of vehicle offroad performance. Not a thing.
@@gc2234 No. It's all about the grass. Once you remove the top layer you lose. Yanny waits it out. Leaves his grass intact and waits for Mat to press on the gas. The moment Mat has too much power down he has lost it. If you just release the brake you have a higher chance of winning than hitting the gas all the way. Just look at him, he presses the gas so slightly that the car doesn't even move the first few seconds. He is controlling it so smoothly. This can also be achieved by just braking. Brake at the start, wait for the other guy to spin his wheels, game over.

Why not do a tug of war with the Discovery and a H1 or H2 Hummer and have the Discovery in low range mode and automatic off road terrain and see what happens

not really, land rover has an advanced traction control system along with low traction launch. all yianni did was floor it just as Matt did in the other cars, and the computers in the Discovery will sort everything out

Agreed, especially that part between 7:53 and 8:46 was way too long. I had to skip past it. This video felt like 6 minutes of content stretched into 10 minutes, just so they could get the video past the 10 minute mark. This was Driver's victory, not vehicle's loss. Not saying that the Discovery is not capable but on each pull, Yanni was waiting until Matt started to loose traction and started spinning to apply any throttle. Then he was applying low and steady throttle as he should, instead of Matt's reaction to floor it.

I think it's more the Land Rover Terrain Response System knows when and which wheel to lay down the torque to. Mat explains it quite well in the SVR vs G-Wagen tug of war video.

That's completely correct. This is staged and the outcome is easily decided in this particular situation.
Every time it starts with the "victim" vehicle tugging first, on the grass and mud, until it starts spinning its wheels. Spinning its road-biased tires on grass and mud makes them SLICKS. At this point the disco just steps on the gas a little and off it goes, since the other vehicle is already slipping and has slicks on it. Simple. And stupid.
If they swap the disco (waiting car) with something else, it will end the same way. The waiting car will always win this particular set-up.
Also a tug-of-war is one of the dumbest "tests" out there. It shows absolutely nothing in terms of vehicle offroad performance. Not a thing.
@@gc2234 No. It's all about the grass. Once you remove the top layer you lose. Yanny waits it out. Leaves his grass intact and waits for Mat to press on the gas. The moment Mat has too much power down he has lost it. If you just release the brake you have a higher chance of winning than hitting the gas all the way. Just look at him, he presses the gas so slightly that the car doesn't even move the first few seconds. He is controlling it so smoothly. This can also be achieved by just braking. Brake at the start, wait for the other guy to spin his wheels, game over.
