  • 7 Reasons Why The Tesla Model X is a BAD winter weather vehicle. It really sucks when you cant get in your car, but thats just the 1st issue. Watch to find out what its like to own a Tesla Model X in winter conditions. Tesla fanboys wont tell you the real story, they will only tell you its the best car ever made! LOL
There is a #8 that I forgot to mention. In the winter, driving efficiency is bad due to cabin heater usage, the battery heater, and added drag due to the snow/rain. I get around 561 wh/mile while using heat and driving normally.
At 561 Wh per mile thats only 169 miles on a charge assuming a 95 kWh battery and you use it all. (95,000 / 561 = 169)
However the cold temps also lower the battery's capacity. So you dont get a full 95kwh.
A full charge to 95kwh based on the national average of $.13/kwh = $12.35
That $12.35 will get you roughly 169 miles in a Long Range Model X in the winter.
$12.35 would buy me 4.84 gallons of gasoline in Upstate NY at $2.55/gallon.
    A Toyota Prius driver would get 224 miles on that same $12.35. (4.84 gal x 50mpg = 242 miles)
Oh and you can have a Prius for $13,000 instead of $89,000 on a new raven Model X
    Just sayin....

Tesla Model X winter entry procedure
    1. Preheat for at least 30 mins so doors will open.
    2. Open rear hatch to get snow brush. Close rear hatch.
    3. Brush off snow.
    4. Test front doors to see if they open yet.
5a. If they open, open fwd and buckle in your child (if applicable).
5b. If they won’t open yet let car warm up for another 30 minutes and retry.
God forbid that it’s an emergency and you need to take a family member to the emergency room because if you skipped a step you aren’t getting there in an X.

I hear all the fanboy's cries about brushing off my car..... Yes I do clean the snow off. But when you drive in the snow snow continues to pile up on the back window under the spoiler. So when you park and open both doors at the same time the snow slides into the car. Lots of fanboys bust my balls about it but I LIVED WITH IT. Im sure they are living in sunny SOCAL or have a garage. Its a real problem.
Then there are the doors and windows. They freeze shut all the time. Sure you can make excuses for those too or suggest crazy coatings for the rubber seals but the bottom line is that a car should serve the basic functions of a car! I have lived in winter my entire life. I have owned all kinds of cars. Shitty ones that only cost $300 all the way up to this $100,000 Tesla. Ive owned trucks, Ive owned cars. IN 30 YEARS I HAVE NEVER HAD SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH A VEHICLE. EVERY SINGLE CAR HAS BEEN ABLE TO OPEN AND DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD EXCEPT THIS POS TESLA.
Argue if you want, disagree if you want but I'm not being unrealistic expecting my doors to open and to be able to drive the car in the cold. Every single car I have ever owned has opened in the winter except this one.
Lastly, Im sure you didn't watch the video because that wasn't the only issue with it as a winter car.
Refusing to realize there are faults removes your ability to improve. By defending Tesla unconditionally you aren't doing anyone any favors. We cannot grow and improve unless we first acknowledge our faults.

Here's an idea....CLEAN off the car with a brush while heating it up. Go inside and get your coffee and by the time you come back out, it'll probably be fine. I clean off the ENTIRE car before hitting the road. If you leave the roof stuff on, it will eventually slide off and blind you or fly into the other lane hitting another driver's car.

Welcome to Tesla’s in the winter - for example - come fall I stop auto folding mirrors and when spring comes I turn it back on - of course you have learned (the hard way) not to open to rear hatch and passenger doors at the same time w snow or rain on the glass - btw - great demo of the snow problem - you also learned not to take your x to s for that matter to the car wash with temps bellow freezing because the door seals will freeze up and will continue to freeze up until the moisture dries - we also keep a spray bottle handy with rubbing alcohol and water for when ice builds up on the glass or mirrors - we’ve notice 30 minutes of preheat/defrost works wonders when it’s really cold or iced up - keep the videos coming - you’re actually helping the Tesla community - hang in there

As far as snow, I always keep the scraper in the trunk of the cars so I can get it and then brush snow off that's around the doors, granted if you're short it would be hard to reach the roof to get the back door seal area.

Glitz over functionality. Almost got a P100D b/c I wanted an SUV that could get to 60 in 3 seconds. Used Turo to rent it in the summer and had multiple issues in a 48 hr period (wife almost bisected by a closing gull wing door, unsolicited interior spray wash when taking the car through the no-touch car wash, and on an 88% charge I barely made a 160 mile trip even though the initial range projection exceeded 220 miles). The car is like a supermodel with a bad personality. Initially very attractive but gets old real quick.

  • @terrysharp6294
    @terrysharp6294 4 роки тому +6

The model 3 has issue's as well but not that bad. On the 3, you have to beat on the door handle to get it un-frozen. If the window doesn't go down, the door doesn't close right. Then you have to listen to wind noise while you're driving. The charge door will freeze closed or in the open position. The mirrors freeze as well. A gas car will freeze too but it doesn't do it nearly as often and it has to be a major storm. The Tesla has problems even on minor snow falls. The biggest issue is because of the frameless windows.

      Our Volvo:
      * Radar and front camera ALWAYS work - never get's blocked.
      * Folding mirror: I think it failed to fold once or so in 2,5 years (and yes, here in Sweden, we have a lot of shitty weather that really covers the car in ice, snow, rime and i do not know what).
      * Doors: Well... pull handle, it opens. If there is a lot of ice and shit, pull harder, and it opens.
      * Fuel door: Push, and it opens. Once it was so much icesnowslushyfrozen shit on so i didn't even see the door, but started to push around approximately where i thought it was and, yep, there it was, and it popped right open.
      * Windows: Sometimes they do not roll down but, who cares? It's only a minor issue when arriving at work but that is easily fixed by opening the door when blipping the card on the entry card reader.
Made in Sweden. Designed in Sweden. Tested in Sweden.

It's funny how many people just accepted beating on the door handle/windows to be okay as long as it's a Tesla. Which is pretty silly considering how Tesla has poor build quality to begin with and it can't be good to repetitively hit on these components.
Not sure why Tesla insist to go with frameless design.

James! Model X has power doors . . . Users like them very much (when they work!), but those are also ”the Achilles heel” of Model X. In winter time:
    - Remove snow before opening any door.
    - Inside the outer metal skin of the falcon doors are sensors to protect the doors hitting anything or anyone. Sensor is in the middle of the lower part of the falcon door. If there is something (like yourself) in front of the falcon door, the door will not open normally. Also the front door will not open normally if you are near that sensor. Clean also snow from the middle of the falcon doors.
    - Those sensors sometimes separate from the door. The sensor is pointing more upwards and works wrongly.

I got a Model X too, and yes, I have to admit that it's more of a show piece vs practical vehicle... Easy to put a car seat in vs showering your baby with ice and water while the trunk opens is totally practical lol! I parked my car in the garage, so doesn't really have much of an ice issue in the morning. However, I actually have to worry about opening the FWD when it rains with fingers crossed that water won't slip in 🤞. But I do enjoy the massive windshield and the height and the space the Model X provides. Not sure if the up coming Model Y can beat that, but probably way more practical.

I have a 2019 Model X as well and I live in Maine with lots of ice and snow.
--Take 2 secs to brush off snow from windows (as I do from my ICE cars) to prevent it falling into the car (this happens on all my ICE cars when opening the doors, though not as bad). Clean off area around falcon wing door sensors as well.
--Preheat car and most of this brushing off of snow is minimized from windows...I would do this anyway to heat the steering wheel, cabin, and seat, so nothing extra needed.
--silicone to door and window seals. I do this with my ICE cars as well. Your windows and doors were frozen because you washed your car and water will freeze up everything that night. Same thing happens ICE cars doors/windows.
--and yes, sometimes, as with my ICE cars, you need to use Ice Melt.
--my rear view mirrors ARE heated.
--on my model 3, as well as my model X, I disable the auto-folding mirrors during the winter.
--cameras being blocked is a pain and does limit you in the winter on snowy roads, no doubt.
To me, these things are no big deal. Living in a cold climate, you have deal with this stuff on ANY car. Model X has it's own specific things, but to me, I don't have a problem with it.

Reason077 do you Live place where it snows? 100% of the people I know keep their Snowbrush in the rear cargo area or in the trunk. We also have a two-year-old and while my wife gets him buckled in I’d have to get into the rear. This is a very normal problem in snowy weather. And I brushed snow off the Rav so you could see it and because it’s easy. It’s on the side. To brush off the X you need something with a long reach.

its funny, those are the only two points that anger people. No one comments about the other points. Do you live in a place where it snows every day? Where do you usually keep your snow brush? Yes, someone here told me a few days ago that the side view mirrors heat with the rear defrost. Go look at the manual in your X, if you have one. It does not say under the mirror section or in the climate control section that that happens. If you go into the rear defrost button description it has one sentence, "Also, using rear defrost heats side mirrors." That's it, it took a lot of digging to find and no one at tesla told me that was the case.

Test-drove a Model-X for two weeks in summer and had some issues but generally liked it. Regarding winter: you are aware that you have to clean any car from the snow before getting in, no? Everybody living in the Alps knows and does that. If door seals stick, put some silicone spray on them every fall and you will be fine. I have similar issues with my VW sometimes with doors not opening and it's usually the seal frozen. Silicone spray will remove this problem from the list. Snow falling inside the car when it is not pre-cleaned - happens to every other non falcon wing door as well to a bigger or lesser degree. So, really no issue there. You are even fined by the police in Europe if you don't clean the snow off your car before driving. And yes - get an ice-scraper, like everyone else does who lives in countries where it snows! So, the only thing that really is left for me here is the mirrors not folding. Yes, that should be sorted out, but this is an issue that not only Tesla has but several premium cars.

I have lived in winter my entire life. I have owned all kinds of cars. Shitty ones that only cost $300 all the way up to this $100,000 Tesla. Ive owned trucks, Ive owned cars. I am not a Tesla fan boy I have a Land Rover Discovery 5 but I find this video a bit silly. Why not use the preconditioning, I do on my Discovery and after 10 minutes it’s pretty clear. Also you have to clear the snow off your car before you open doors etc. as it’s bound to fall in to the car. I opened the front door of my Discovery in the snow and a load of it fell on to the leather drivers seat. I have also experienced the door handles freezing. What I am saying is these problems are going to be there on most makes of car.

Your icing issues are not unique to Tesla tho, my family lives in NY and they park in the garage or at least under the carport because any car ices over.
Honestly there are cars with trunk or doors are such that they are prone to hitting your head, or water pours in when you open the doors and/or trunk. You can close the falcon door before opening the hatch if it’s covered in snow. Also snow brushes are popular in NY.

Since you complain about your car, why not get rid of it and get something else? Every car has it's own issues, none are perfect. Your next car will have problems too. I live in Tahoe where it snows all the time and i haven't experienced this issue with our X. I brush off the snow and get in just fine. I do preheat it for a few mins before getting in but not for an hour. The door has frozen before but so has my wife's Audi door. My old Jeep door froze too. We also preheat my wife's Audi so no difference there. I will say though that I keep it in a garage for 80% the time. You should too with a Tesla! I've read other comments where you've said "I've lived in cold weather for all my life and hadn't needed a garage". Not good enough man. You have a 85k plus car. Garage it. And since you don't have a garage, don't get such an expensive car. At least that's my perspective on it, obviously you feel differently about it.
My experience with our X has been awesome so far (about 7 months) with no issues at all except for 1 thing. It wouldn't initiate a software update once but I scheduled an appointment and they fixed the issue remotely. Took one and a half days after I scheduled it. So your service experience has been different from mine. My coworker has a S and the service has been good for him as well. Every car company has complaints about their cars. Go to any Mercedes forum and you'll read thousands of complaints about what's wrong with the car. Pissed off owners just like you.

Ronin Z hello! Thank you so much for watching. Lots of comments but I’ll try to respond.
      1. I do have it for sale but only low ball offers.
      2. If you keep yours garaged you wouldn’t experience these problems. But one of my points is that you shouldn’t NEED a garage for your car. I’ve had many different cars, even really crappy cars, and none of them have ever frozen closed. Ever, my entire life, not one. But the X freezes almost every day if it’s below 32f. That’s no bueno.
      3. I’m sorry you think I am belittling you. I used to be twice the fanboy you are so I know you. I’m sure my tone towards fanboys is from the negativity I’ve been receiving from them. If I showed you the emails and messages I’ve received you’d cringe. That’s why I had to take down my email from my UA-cam channel and each individual description in each video. It was a TON OF WORK! It took days. But I was receiving so much hate for just telling my story. All I was doing was talking about my experience with the car and what Tesla was doing to me. Then when Tesla screwed me and I had to pay $4000 for damage they caused no one would help me. I emailed and tweeted all of the Tesla fans that I knew. They all refused to retweet, talk about, or share my story. So yeah, I guess that experience with fanboys might come across in my videos. It’s not for nothing unfortunately.
      4. I am so glad you have had a great experience with Tesla. That’s all I ever wanted. I loved Tesla. I loved everything they were doing. I wanted to be a part of it. Seems like 40% of people have an amazing experience. I am very glad you got lucky.

@@JamesKlafehn Here's the thing, if you switched out the name "Tesla" with BMW in your titles, the BMW "fanboys" would be all over you as well. There are fanatical car enthusiasts for every brand. You would be getting those same emails from BMW fans as well. My point is, you're on a public platform bitching about an issue you feel is wrong. What did you expect? You put yourself in that position by agreeing to put up a video on UA-cam. In a perfect world, sure, it would be great if no one came after you in the comment section, email, or messaging. But this isn't a perfect world, in fact, it's the digital world which opens you to criticism even more. I've never understood celebrities who complain about not being able to go out in public due to the recognition they receive. They knew what comes with the territory beforehand yet still complain about it. Same thing here, if you put up a video, any video on a public platform, you know what comes with that. The good and the bad!
As to asking for help from Tesla owners/fans to retweet your issue and not getting the help you hoped for, that's unfortunate. But again, we live in a big boy/girl world...what did you expect? Did you expect to cause a ruckus to gain the attention from Tesla management to rectify your issue? I've actually seen incidents where this did work but I in no way would expect help from anyone if I had an issue with my car. It would be awesome if help would have came but we're adults and need to take care of it ourselves.
I just dont get why people feel the need to go on UA-cam and complain about a issue they have for the whole world to see then complain about the negativity they receive on that issue.
I get it man, you feel wronged and burned about the situation and also felt no one at Tesla has listened. You also feel attacked by Tesla fans for the issue you clearly feel is Tesla's fault. Got it and you're not alone for the countless other people who feel the same way about their particular issue from X, Y, Z company. This cycle has gone on since the dawn of business and while I'm not saying it's right, I'm also saying deal with it like an adult, take care of it, and move on. It happens. You're not the first to bitch about something and certainly won't be the last.
Call me old school I guess in which I wouldn't feel the need to go on UA-cam, Twitter, or any other platform to publicly complain about a situation I'm dealing with then expect a positive result. You went from being a fanboy of Tesla and attracting like mind people to attracting the other side of like minded people who doesn't like Tesla. Maybe that gives you vindication, who knows.
If you feel that wronged about it, get a lawyer and take some action. You may get some movement. Otherwise, chalk it up as life like the rest of us have to do and deal with it.
You're in the public eye with posting videos about your issues. You've agreed to UA-cam's user agreement. You're in the digital world and open yourself up to comments, emails and messages. This comes with the good, bad and ugly. You certainly shouldn't sound demeaning to Tesla fans in your videos and comments knowing damn well this is what happens on the internet. It's not just Tesla fans, it's all fans of all categories that you'll feel the wrath of when posting publicly on an issue. Comes with the territory and it may be time to suck it up and move on.
Getting clicks and posting videos may not be worth the criticism if it turns a person to the dark side my friend. I've been there man and that feeling manifests, builds up and turned my soul ugly.
Wish all this wouldn't have happened to you with your car and with the company. I had a car accident years ago where it wasn't my fault but my insurance screwed me out of 7k. Obviously I was furious and pissed. It sucks but situations happen to all of us. Like you, I howled at the moon to everyone from the secretary to CEO. Nothing helped and got no help from anyone. I took them to court and lost. Knowing the other person caused the accident and got off while I had to pay $7k took my pissed off to another level. So I hear ya.
But in no way did I feel like posting a video about it. Why? It would open me up to all the crazies on the internet and I would rather stubb my toe 100 times than to deal with that poison.
But that's just me, obviously you feel the need to do it but remember what comes with the territory by doing it. Ugly people coming at you in the comments are not Tesla fans, it's unfortunately humans being humans no matter what brand.
I'll watch your previous videos on your issue and if it's what you claim, I'll bring it to the attention of people I know and let it ride from there.

With that said, I dont think all of my videos are negative. Sure I drop a few comments about fanboys here and there but its all true. They can be ruthless. As for BMW fanboys, yes I know all companies can have fanboys. But Tesla fanboys are the most eager to make excuses for Tesla. For a lot of them its a movement. Its about social change and saving the environment. Its not just about being a fan, its a boarder line advocacy group. Just like Altria Group wont tell you cigarettes are bad, most fanboys wont tell you that Tesla has problems.
My only reason for continuing these is to help people make an educated decision when it comes to buying a Tesla. Its not all sunshine and butterflies like in other youtubers videos. I am a real person with a real family and Tesla has put us through the wringer! Extremely difficult to work with, HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION, and I still have a $4000 bill for damage their towing company caused. I honestly dont care if some people get angry or unsubscribe. Those are not the people I am trying to help. I CAN tell you that I have received many stories from people who have also had issues with Tesla. When Tesla buys a car back though they require the customer sign an NDA. So that's why you dont hear these stories. I was told off the record and I cannot talk specifics. @@JamesKlafehn It was the longest comment I've ever wrote lol. And this one may be the 2nd.
If you don't care if people get angry, post negative comments, or negative emails, why are you responding and commenting about it? Of course you care or you wouldn't be commenting about it. I know it's tough not to respond to negative comments when you feel those comments are wrong but that's what it takes. It's like these celebrities acknowledging they shouldn't have responded to a negative twitter comment but couldn't resist. Then they post a tweet or make a video about all the hate they received. Duh!!
Eventually they learn it's not healthy to respond and understand how the digital world works. Its ruthless but again, it's fair game.
With most people I follow, they don't respond to neagative comments on their channel because logically, why? No good comes from it and more times than not, it ends up looking like two school kids arguing who's right or wrong. No net benefit.
I've read many comments from you either initiating or responding about Tesla fanboys so obviously you care. Would recommend truly not caring or at the very least, not responding. Take the high road, so to speak
Personally, my X has been the best car I've owned and that's NOT fanboy talk. It's everyday experience. It's not at all perfect and there are some things I wish were different about the car but neither is a Lambo or Bentley for that matter. The hatch spilling snow or water down into the seat is a non issue for my family. (2 kids) Why? Because I knew about it before I bought the car. I don't open the hatch when it's raining or there's built up snow on it while my kids are getting in. I open it before or after they get in on those rare occasions. It's an absolute non issue. However in your video, you make it sound like a big issue. It's not.
If you want to come across as a real person giving a real experience, you can't make non issues sound like a big issue. You can bring it up but not the way you're making it out to be. It's disingenuous at the least or overdramatic at most.
Your tone and rhetoric in your videos are clearly negative biased which means you CAN NOT give an honest and unbiased view. I get the reasons why but don't fool yourself.
Again, my intent isn't to be argumentative. However, some of the points you've mentioned can be considered fallacy logic. But I get it. How can you be subjective when you felt like you've been screwed right? The simple answer is you can't but dont fool yourself in thinking you are.
Would I ever go back to that insurance company that screwed me out of $7k? Nope. Would I make videos about my experience with it or complain about their fans? Hell no. Would I be soooo pissed at the company to point out "flaws" of the product with a tone and act like the product sucks when it doesn't? Of course not.
Food for thought. Still rooting for a quick resolution to your Tesla issues.

For less than 100k I’d rather get the Toyota Land Cruiser and I’d get a car that would last me 300,000 miles; it also would depreciate less than the Tesla. (Not to mention it’s built for rough conditions)

The fanboys would say "but then you have to pay for gas and you will pollute the earth!!!" lol

The 3 seems like better quality than the X so I bet the Y will be good. Is service good in your area?

Subie Diaries I definitely wouldn’t buy anything other than a 2019+ Raven if you HAD to have one. Older ones had issues. The raven is a much better car. I wouldn’t do it over again if I could though.

Just think for that amount of money you could have just bought a Chevy stingray.

Hello, anyone with climate control problem? In winter I can’t keep a comfortable temperature and always have a foggy windshield. Children are cold.
A/C on or off: no difference
    Recirculation off: too much cold
Recirculation on: temperature ok but foggy windows
    Thank you

I TOTALLY AGREE! I always had this problem. I never brought it up because Im sure fanboys would tell me I was just an idiot. But I knew I wasnt crazy! My windows were ALWAYS FOGGING UP! It also drove me crazy that every time I opened a side door it would be freezing cold again because all the heat would get out.

Set the climate control to auto, that's the best way to avoid fogging in a Tesla. Do not try to use manual climate control.

Isn't that why you buy an expensive Tesla? So you can feel like you're driving around in a 1950 milk truck? Kids whining about their fingers and toes? Can't see out the windows? Sure, that's what you should expect for big bucks...
