XO MaCenna, a big “XO” to you for trying to be as sustainable as possible and reusing the original materials of the house! I know it would be a time-saver to just buy new windows instead of scraping all the paint flecks off, sanding them down, and fitting them...Reusing old materials is cool, an educational learning experience, and good for our planet! Thanks for leading by example 💕
Is there anything you can not do girl! You are amazing and I love your Mom. And your dad to of course lol. Love your channel and really enjoying watching you renovate you cottage! Sending lots of love from 🇨🇦
"Must have been a man " was hilarious, you and your mom are so much fun to watch, I love your upbeat attitude and perseverance, you are amazing girl !! 💞
Just imagine when the house is complete, down to the last decoration, you will be able to say every bone and crack of this place has been done by me (except building the whole house from empty land of course, although at this stage I believe you can do that too)! That feeling is going to be different, maybe the best ever!
That would be easy for her to accomplish as long as she had a team to help handle the larger pieces of lumber and the trusses. She could definitely do that. The finishing touches are where the expertise and patience come in. She’s got that down. Watching her confidence grow each step along the way is fun to see! OMGosh! The double locks are perfect. Also the brass color, so gorgeous!! This house is going to look AMAZING!!
Opinion: I don’t think dove wing is enough contrast. 😊. I really like the Manchester tan. I painted different rooms of my house different versions of white; however, I am unable to discern any difference and wish I would have chosen whites with more contrast. The black is THE BOMB!!!! Amazing work!
This may be an unpopular opinion but I thought she would go with a color. Of course the turquoise is super outdated but I think a green would be really pretty! Huge contrast but would also kind of blend in with landscape/grass. The white on white looks really modern to me and I know old houses had some color on the outside.
LOVING the black windows. So good! Definitely like two locks per window. That extra trim piece will just blend right in. And I agree you should go just a touch darker than dove wing.
Heads up, the weights are sized to the weight of the window they are carrying. You may want to check to see if the Low E glass is significantly heavier than the old glass. You may need larger weights. Worth finding out before you close the interior window trim.
@@XOMaCenna So true?! Argh that means you already know this? I love how thorough you've been in your research! This might be adding to your list of things, but would you be able to jot down a list of things that you didn't know while renovating? Like window weights? I had no idea windows had weights! This would be so handy to know. Love watching you do your thing cause your passion SHINES through.
I completely disassembled, stripped, filled, sanded and repainted with Ben Moore White Dove, 22 double hung wooden windows (including all trim pieces) in my vintage home. I also removed every glass pane to strip, sand, and paint in the crevices…reinstalled and glazed all the glass panes…reinstalled the windows with new sash ropes and new window latches…and handle lifts…and though it was quite an accomplishment and they turned out beautifully…it took me years. Your windows are gorgeous…I love how you took out the roller hardware and sprayed it antique brass…wish I’d have done that…I painted mine. You mentioned thinking three weeks was a long time to redo five windows…but…that’s actually warp speed. This kind of restoration work takes so much love and care…that’s why it’s so valuable. Your house is going to be amazing.
My husband walked by while I was watching this, stopped and said “she’s so expressive!” One of the many reasons I love watching you Your parents are lucky to have you You’re lucky to have them And you all seem to know it. You are seriously out of this world. My sister and I always make time to watch your videos together. You deserve so much credit and all the success, such an inspiration for all women. Thank you for taking us on this journey and sharing all the milestones. Lots of love from Canada!
The reason contractors don’t like to work on old homes is simply because they are rarely straight and plumb so it is easier to tear down and rebuild and faster and cheaper and they can move on to new jobs! It’s always a question of money, they don’t really care if you are invested in your antique house or not. Btw great work 👍
Yes! Also old houses always come with unique problems which require unique solutions. Whereas on new builds it's pretty much all the same so they can just do what they always do 🤷🏻♀️
Aren’t they terrific together! I know how lovely it is to be a team with your daughter (I have 2 wonderful grown daughters and a daughter-in-law and feel very lucky).
LOVE that you’re so tenacious! I have restored several old houses and know that feeling of being overwhelmed with a multitude of tasks and the desire to do them perfectly. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! Extra bonus is great and memorable time spent with your folks.
I got soooooo excited seeing the window pull up! I'm so proud of you and behind every power woman is her power mom! Love the trim on the windows. The black looks so classy.
Those windows look AMAZING!!! It was definitely worth the hard work! For the trim colour you could mix a tiny drop of black or something into the colour of the walls, that way it’s the same sort of colour but it looks a bit more dimensional. Love the video, probably one of my favourites! ❤️
Dear MaCenna, there aren’t enough adjectives to describe you! One thing I know is that your parents are amazing individuals! They reared an amazing young woman! Thank you for taking us along on this renovation. Blessings 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷💛
You & your family are awesome!!!! Your parents have to be soooo proud of you. Your attention to detail pays off to outstanding results. I'm proud of you too, and sooo happy for you!!! Can't wait till Romeo sees your progress.
These videos are such an inspiration. It's so amazing to actually see a project GETTING DONE. I'm such a procrastinator, and I often start a project, then get overwhelmed and never finish it. This makes me reluctant to even try in the first place. Seeing MaCenna just chugging along, taking things one step at a time, and actually accomplishing big tasks, is amazing. It's also wonderful to see a woman doing traditional "man jobs" with so much unapologetic energy and joy. Demolition, framing, stripping, cutting, nailing, everything! And when her Dad and Romeo turn up they never seem to "take charge", but work together with her as an equal. It's beautiful to see. On another note, MaCenna and her mom are adorable together. 🥰
love how excited you are with the whole process! love the windows! maybe try OC-19, maybe it's contrasting enough and it's still in the same 'family' as white dove. Love from Greece! can't believe it's 7 months with the house renovation!!!!
I remember being awake at night, doing the last half of an historic Italianate Villa, alone, thinking,"I have 85 windows to redo". Counting windows in the dark to get organized is no laughing matter with 27 rooms. I wonder that I can watch your program now and be so completely enthralled by all the decisions you had to make each day. Bless your parents who are there for you. You got my attention, girl, and are in my prayers.
I am so obsessed with this serie and the vlogs , when I get relatives phone calls I make excuses that I am busy at the moment. Everything is looking great.
The windows look so good! This house is going to be so beautiful! Personally, I really like the contrast of the white exterior, black windows, and warm creamy colored trim; the dove wing looks identical to the white dove to my eyes. But whatever you pick is going to look great, based on your track record. A real bummer about that third window being too low now...
@@Edu_Kate Good for you! Everyone's eyes may perceive colors a little differently, and everyone's monitors may also display them differently- which is why I did specify "to my eyes". Good luck with your surgery, hope it goes well!
I have to admit that when this journey started I was horrified at some of the changes you were planning to make. I thought you were going to destroy the original character of the house. I was wrong! You are doing a fantastic job. So impressed with your design as well as your dedication to restoration …to say nothing of your work ethic. You rock! I see your vision and I love it.
@@kristibeisecker Initially when talking about opening up the foyer, I thought it would destroy the character. It wasn’t an attack, it was an initial observation. No need to get your knickers in a twist. I see the error in my thinking.
Thank you so much for saying that. 🥰 I always knew how much the character of this house meant to me and was so sad when my vision was misunderstood at first but I knew all I could do was show my design and intentions for this amazing old home through my videos and hope everyone would see!! Thank you for your comment! It means the world to me!
I can’t wait for your updates every week, I love what you are doing to your Texas cottage! Kudos to your mom and dad for all their work too! I love the black trim and sashes on the windows! Keep up the great work!
Why did this not pop up on my feed the first thing?! I am obsessed with what you’re doing and I love that this solo project has slowly turned into a family project and brought your family closer together! 🤍✨
I agree with the middle paint sample or even the bottom one. I would stand by the street to see what looks best. You remind me of myself when I was in my 30' s. So much energy💕
Macennaaaaa, I’m in love with everything. I do like the dove wing, too bad you could mix a quarter of deep in thought with 3 quarters of dove wing. That might give it a little more depth. The windows looks beautiful. Every time u look at this house you will remember how strong and dedicated you are. Also these memories with your family mean everything. Make sure you enjoy every second together, because it’s so special. I am so invested with this house. I’m secretly waiting for your house to be on Airbnb in the future. It’ll be my first trip to Texas! I’m from Mass💜💜💜
The house is really starting coming to Life! A Little note on the video: I really wished It was more of a DIY/"how to do It" video where you show us the work on One window from beginning to end, and less of a vlog style video. Maybe Think about It when you're going to restore the other windows 😉 like it's great to see the progress and you probably didn't have a lot of time to do It all, but you could do a more specific video on It in the future ☺️
Thanks for taking us along on this journey. Your sweat equity will save money, but the skills you are learning will empower you FOREVER. And to see your mom wear a NOLA Saints shirt and it looks like you have a Fleur De Lis pendant just makes it so much better. All I can add is….You Go Girl!
I love your dedication to not wasting materials and trying to find as many thrifted/antique items as possible to complement the character and age of the home. Also, I always love when your mom is on camera. She has the best sense of humor.
I’m so proud of you MaCenna, in my opinion I think an exterior of a older homes with character needs 3 colours. I did this with my 120 yrs old Federation in Sydney, (story-time: Australia was founded by the British in 1788 and they brought out convicts to build the cities and towns and they would work of their sentence then usual be given some land to start a farm or something depending on the character etc.) but anyway… our whole neighbourhood was where the Governor General settled. If you look at Sydney Harbour it’s across from the Opera House Anyway… all the foundation stone is what is called convict stone, (sydney is built on sandstone) so Convict Stone is Sandstone hand carved into 3.5ft by 2ft by 2ft (Avery rough guess at huge sizes) carved stone. And there is a record of many of the convicts markings so that you can actually look up the history of the convict that hand carved that block in your foundation!!! ISN’T THAT AMAZING 🏚🏠 But the 3 colours set it all off beautifully… modern but keeping with traditions
Currently going through the hardest time of my entire life, and every Sunday I watch these videos and leave feeling unstoppable. I can't thank you enough for that. You're so inspiring!
I love how happy you look after completing a certain project even when it doesn't quite go alright. I am so excited to see your videos every time they come out and see all the beautiful decisions you make for your cottage!
You could run your own home improvement/construction company. Oh the things you’ve learned!!! Look at you! I’m 69 years old and I’ve never done 1/2 the things you’ve done! I love your tenacity! MaCenna, you are a strong, independent, and very capable woman!!! You and your windows!!!! Adding the new cotton cording, spraying the inner hardware antique brass…….incredible!!!

First ! In south Texas i. August we never complain about rain. I’ve been and am currently where you are. I enjoy your excitement and your hands on temperament. My husband and I renovated a 1908 house in New Braunfels. Loved every minute of the 36 years we have lived there, but old houses no matter how much you renovate, always need tending. As we are retiring next year we bought a smaller and slightly younger house (1958) that we are renovating. I too salvaged part of another structures floor that matches ours after spending weeks removing nails (they were nail crazy), sanding. I am finally to the point where I’m ready to varnish. Still need to trim windows, looking for trim like I have in my New Braunfels home. We chose to go with R-42 double pane in the new house. Utility costs is one of several reasons we decided to go smaller and slightly less historically accurate in new house. Even with insulation added to walls, under floors, 2 layers in attic, energy dual compressor efficient central air/heat our monthly bill is a budget buster. We left the single pane glass in place because they were hand blown. Where you have guest cottages, I have a studio 16’ x 32’ , (used to be carriage house for horses & buggies/wagons., a hot tub room (summer kitchen) and my husband’s wood shop. Base bill which includes electric, water, sewer, trash & recycle. In the months where we have neither ac or heat on $483.00/month. Leaving those single pane is a monthly budget buster. And the old sash weighted windows don’t accommodate double panes.
A) I love your positivity! Even when things are “challenging” (read as “raining”) you are able to turn it around and look at it as making progress. B) Your Mom is the bomb! (…had to be a man.)😂😂😂 C) Definitely think more contrast on the trim D) The windows are looking good. That’s a lot of hard work and dedication. I’m totally impressed!
OMG Mcenna! I’m so glad you’re a perfectionist! I would have done all those same improvements on the windows! I would have been so unhappy if one window was uneven! Oh and the locks! Much better! Symmetry! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love how much original parts of this house that you are saving, I see your little cottage getting happier every day, she waited so long for you bring her back to her glory, but better❤️
Wow! So impressed with your patience and attention to detail. I am seriously anxious about the amount of time it takes to complete one window and all of the necessary steps. I could never do it. Your parents should be very proud of you, your independence and your work ethic. Great Job MaCenna. I can barely wait to see the finished project.
When you bought this house my comment was I can’t wait to go along on this adventure with you and boy oh boy has it been an amazing fun to watch without missing an episode.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate that we get to see the entire renovation in this series. There are no details of it that isn't interesting, including following your personal journey, learning more and gaining confidence. A better watch than most similar TV shows for sure :-)
I became an aircraft mechanic in the 90s and watching you do this work reminds me of all the little moments of excitement i had when i learned to fix planes. I always had to play it cool bc the guys wouldve eaten me alive if i expressed my true excitement. I love that you put it all out there. "Be the change you want to see in the world" is definitely something you are living up to.
MaCenna Lee you are a breath of fresh air with your positivity. I know there must be moments that we don’t see but your attitude is your biggest asset. I love your style and enthusiasm. Prayers for you and yours! Thank you for sharing.
This episode was so satisfying watching you get those windows in. Obsessed! Looks so good! Getting sad already that this is starting to happen so fast and that’ll be done in no time 🥺
Don't replace the glass, antique glass is beautiful in sunlight! All the imperfections create stunning reflections. If you replace glass have a professional do it because your windows are on a weight and balance system. It doesn't sound like a big deal but it really is! Most people end up replacing the whole window because even professionals have a hard time with the weights.
Oh MaCenna! this was my favorite video yet …I love how you always tell it like it is! I too have been mad at the weatherman lately 🤨I feel your pain Regarding refinishing trim work in an old house. I spent eight hours sanding just one side of an interior door casing trim that must’ve had 15 layers of globbed on paint. I was using an electric palm sander and it took so long my hand would literally go numb😂I have to tell you all of your hard work and attention to detail is really paying off !! your home is going to look better than the day it was built 🥰 I actually teared up at the end of the video when you showed your window installed …looks fantastic!!! Also like you I am a planner but no matter …something will always pop up , like your low window, you just have to take it in stride and fix it then keep going..it will become classified as a memory of when you rebuilt your home 😎So glad you are getting to see your vision starting to fall into place. That is my favorite part of my projects…When it all starts to come together it’s like refilling your fuel tank to keep going…you got this! P.s. 😍the double locks on the windows, great decision!! Remembering you in my prayers, asking for it not to rain, because you still have 17 windows…which if my math is correct is 11 weeks of work😳
I really respect that you’ve been restoring the windows. I absolutely love that you’re being environmentally positive. I just had one question, has restoring original ones turned out to cheaper that buying new ones? I understand you’ve put in so many hours of labour. The reason I’m asking this I’m in a similar situation where i need to replace few windows from a 80 year old house. I just want to go renovate the older ones but is it cost effective?
I’m doing the same for a old house, and the cost is significantly cheaper for me (just paint, glaze and rope!) it’s really a mater of if my labor is counted because it’s a lot. For a small room with 5 windows (wall of windows!) it’s taking me like 3 weeks 🤣 it’s so much sanding and I’m weak lol
Macenna, girl you are so impressive! What a project this is. I am loving that you are keeping as much original to the house as you can. AND, how much work you are doing yourself. ( and your wonderful folks, too) AND , That you are taking us along on this journey. Thank you, I can't wait for the finish. I know it will be spectacular. Meanwhile, I wait for Sunday videos.

She is definitely a worker! She gets into the guts of it!
when has she ever considered destroying the original character?!
@@kristibeisecker
Initially when talking about opening up the foyer, I thought it would destroy the character.

Look at you, 3” finishing nails and sill drip edge! Proud of you and your folks. Great job.
You have such supportive and wonderful parents! They are amazing. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that. It warms my heart.
Your parents should be so proud of the daughter they raised; beauty, grit and the best attitude ever!
I agree! I’m really interested in seeing the process of restoring a window from start to finish.. would love to see a whole video dedicated to that :)
ISN’T THAT AMAZING 🏚🏠
But the 3 colours set it all off beautifully… modern but keeping with traditions
Thank you so so much!
Always so sad when the video is finished 😢 just love everything you do! Obsessed !
The windows look amazing! I especially liked when you had them hanging from the tree for painting, with the trunk wrapped in plastic. Ingenious!
I wish I could "thumbs up" 100 times over!! This is the absolute best ❤
Your attention to detail is just incredible and its SO appreciated that you share all of the ups and downs, trials and tribulations, the insane frustrations of home renovation (especially with DIY) but then the unbelievable highs that come when you've done it!! You should be immensely proud! 💗💗💗
And, oh man, do I EVER relate! I've redone several kitchens myself in old houses now and the stories I could tell 😆
You're amazing, there is nothing you can't turn your hand to! I can only imagine how proud you'll be when it's all finished x
Is there ANYTHING you can't do? I am continually blown away with how talented & hands on you are. I know this is continually repeated in your comments, but I personally wanted to say thank you for all of your amazing content & the time it takes you to put it all together for us. Your light shines so bright- please don't EVER let anything or anyone dim it. The world needs more light 💡...
xo from Oregon 💕
I love how amazed you are with yourself, yes, be proud 👏🏽😇 beautiful work, as always
Those windows will continue to give you joy when you look out them after you move in. Wow what work!
You are unstoppable!!!! I can’t fathom how hard you’re working and the knowledge you’re gaining! GREAT WORK!!
I love your relationship with your mom! Would love to see a mother-daughter q&a one day! Love love what y’all are doing with the Comfort Cottage!!
Since I discovered your channel I've always loved your videos and the energy you put into it but I have to say that I am HOOKED since you bought this house and you starded the renovations! Love it!
I am addicted to this renovation! Love the fact that you are reusing materials from the house and from fox run house. Cannot wait to see this done!
I appreciate all your hard work sweat & tears. Everyone should have such supportive parents. I love all your videos.
this is without a doubt my favourite series on youtube right now I LOVE IT HERE
Self care Sundays always include your new videos ❤️. So loving this series and your energy is infectious!
I cried happy tears for you when you installed your first window. You are AWESOME!!!
I LOVE how everything is coming together! I celebrate with you every accomplishment you make and share with us! ❤️ On a side note, there is a house in my neighborhood that I absolutely love its color scheme and I always think of you too! I wish I could send you a pic, so maybe it could help you to decide the color you want around your windows. Can't wait for the next video!
I’ve had my fair share of home building, but never had as much fun as you are having!! Can’t wait for the next upload!!!
Dove Wing! YES!!!
Also, don't skip showing us the rest of the windows - love watching every part of this process. Thanks for sharing it with us!
A) I love your positivity! Even when things are “challenging” (read as “raining”) you are able to turn it around and look at it as making progress.
B) Your Mom is the bomb! (…had to be a man.)😂😂😂
C) Definitely think more contrast on the trim
D) The windows are looking good. That’s a lot of hard work and dedication. I’m totally impressed!
MaCenna, you are so cute with your excitement. This house will be a pearl of the town. Black windows look amazing.
OMG Mcenna! I’m so glad you’re a perfectionist! I would have done all those same improvements on the windows! I would have been so unhappy if one window was uneven! Oh and the locks! Much better! Symmetry! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Girl...l give you props. I can't even believe the amount of work you are doing on your own. You make me so proud.
I seriously get so excited every time I see you upload! I’m loving all the home content ❤️
I love how much original parts of this house that you are saving, I see your little cottage getting happier every day, she waited so long for you bring her back to her glory, but better❤️
This journey is so exciting!!
Dove wing for sure! Once it’s allllll painted I bet that contrast will be Plenty! Especially with the black! It’s really coming along! Good job!!!!
I am so excited to see each finished project as you start adding to the rooms!
Thank you so so much!!!
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate that we get to see the entire renovation in this series. There are no details of it that isn't interesting, including following your personal journey, learning more and gaining confidence. A better watch than most similar TV shows for sure :-)
Love the trim between the windows.
As for the trim color, the Dove Wing color .. can't you darken it some % just to give it a bit more contrast?
Of all the UA-cam vlogs (mostly gardens) I follow, this is by far my favorite. I personally like the deep in thought trim color.
This whole process is amazing to watch! I personally like Deep in Thought for a contrast color.
Beautiful progress!
I believe you can ask for a colour to be darker/more concentrated! So if you go in wanting Dove Wing, you can ask for a certain percentage darker 😊
Getting sad already that this is starting to happen so fast and that’ll be done in no time 🥺
I think I say this in all of your videos… your parents are awesome! Thanks for taking us along for your renovation/ restoration journey ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Remembering you in my prayers, asking for it not to rain, because you still have 17 windows…which if my math is correct is 11 weeks of work😳
In love with this project!! The windows look amazing!
The trim in between the 12” space between the windows was exactly what I was thinking! It’s going to look great!!
Oh my goodness MaCenna !!!! What tenacity you have !!! You can be very proud of yourself and your family. It looks beautiful !!!
I look forward to this every week! ❤️
What patience you have woman!!!! I so admire your determination and perseverance. I LOVE the black on the windows❤.... you are learning soooo much by doing the work yourself....and your mom and dad helping...😉
