Just a little suggestion about the walls. Go to home depot or Lowes and get several 5 gallon buckets of paint. Get the off tinted paint for a good price. I would keep it to shades of white it doesn't matter if any or all match in a flat matte finish. Just a light color for cheap! Spray all the walls with that paint with that for a primer. I get you want every room different but this will serve to protect the mud on the walls and be a good base coat for the way more expensive paint you are going to do for your colors. You do one maybe two coats of the inexpensive paint then when you do the expensive color paint you probably only have to do one coat of paint. This can save you a couple of thousand dollars. Just a suggestion from a old painter that did thousand of houses. Your house is coming along beautifully. P.S. hauling wood sucks! Keep that to a fire pit out in the backyard!
Refer to your original transoms. The framing around the glass is uniformly skinny, not fat on the sides and skinny on top and bottom as you just built. They are windows, so not built like doors. I think the aesthetic would be better and more historic if you framed the transom glass with the same skinny width of wood all the way around.
Macenna, l see you inching your way to 1) finishing ur own reno 2) one million admiring subscribers 3) an offer for your own successful home improvement show... enevitable
I love seeing you do everything you can yourself. People never believe me when I say I did something in my house. We are women, we are not incompetent. Your house is going to look beautiful and you can take pride in knowing you did that!
Send this video to all the guys at estate sales "surprised to see women looking at tools", and tell them there's a bunch of us behind you Macenna, who follow you and are SO inspired by you!
When staining the doors you should add some methalated spirits to the stain so it doesnt just look like brown paint smothered on.. i learnt that staining my wooden tables, my first table looked like your front door like it just looks like brown paint but once you figure out the stain can be thinned out and applied thinly in layers you can actually see the grain of the wood and the finish is so much nicer
CONGRATS FOR 800K SUBS MACENNA!!! This house just RADIATES from the love and care you’ve poured into it!!! Hoping that things go well for you as you slowly finish this beauty 💕💕🥳
Still cannot believe that it's finally looking like a house again 😍 I'm so in awe how you keep figuring out how to build all this stuff by yourself, you go girl 💪🏻
Holy crap! I've obviously been impressed during this whole series, but watching Macenna construct those transom windows is a new peak of impressive. I know she said from the beginning that each of the transom windows would be different so the heights could be the same, but I guess I just figured she'd take measurements for the hole and get the custom glass to that size. Also, that it'd be more a hired out job. Seeing the detail and care put into framing the windows, keeping the sides consistent with each custom door set, and putting it all together is truly remarkable to me. I'm not super knowledgeable about construction stuff, so maybe there's something else you did that's harder. But the fact that you're custom building these window frames yourself for each set of doors and figuring out how to put things together just on your own is crazy cool to me. It seems like such an ambitious job and I'm so proud for you. I'm not sure I could ever figure something like that out on my own. Keep up the great work, I get more and more excited every step of the way.
I’m gonna be going through withdrawals when this renovation is complete. Watching the transformation of your new home and you along with it has been such an amazing story to follow. Thanks for sharing it with us!❤️
I thought that at first but… macenna constantly posted great content even before this Reno, and knowing her I’m sure she will constantly be doing stuff with this house
You amaze me McCenna, there is nothing you can’t do!!! I love listening to you Vlogs and can’t wait for you to start decorating each. Have a great time on your vacation.
I just wanted to say i find it incredible how in such a short amount of time, you've gone from doing DIY's to actually building windows and installing doors and basically building a house from your own hands! It's crazy how much you have learned and it's really inspiring!
I just sit here with my mouth open shaking my head in awe of how far you’ve come!! You have learned SO MUCH! You can truly do anything MaCenna. Think of all the girls you’ve inspired! Love love love! 🥰❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
whenever I am left without the will to work, I remember you and your efforts around this house. I immediately get the will and get my ass to work (which is btw much easier than what you do..I know that because we renovated the apartment 3 years ago and I know how hard it is, both physically and mentally difficult )
MaCenna you are brilliant. I love to watch you figure it all out but you get there and it looks absolutely amazing. I think sometimes you surprise yourself. Go girl and with only 2 more transom windows you can do it. XX
WOO HOO!! 800,000 SUBS!!! You'll be over one million in no time! It is so well deserved, too- your content is fire! 🔥 Anyway, I love that you're going to design the rooms as "sisters" vs "twins". That is how I have always designed my homes. It makes for a very comfortable & homey home:). I cannot believe how far you've come in this project- you truly are amazingly talented.
Your family's energy is making me happy and smile, while working on my schoolworks. I hope you guys always stay happy, safe, and healthy (physically, mentally, and emotionally) 😊
Oh!! Joint suggestions for the windows! You could do a kerf cut spline on the butt joints, and if you did it all the way around, you’d also have the space for the glass to fit in (can do with your router instead of the table saw - google: spline butt joint). I have always wanted a biscuit jointer - that could work too, but would be one more tool to buy. If you go with a kerf cut on the table saw, I’d suggest getting some feather boards that will help hold everything securely in place as you run the board through the table saw (also prevents kick back).
MaCenna you are an amazing young women! You get more done in a day than many people do in a month, including myself.... and you do it so well. The house is developing its personality - I love the attention to detail like how you made sure the transom windows matched the doors.... Those are things that make a difference between something feeling supremely right or just ok... Us lay people may not know why it looks wonderful, we just sense the continuity and symmetry. Awesome job and I envy your determination and fearlessness.
I love that fireplace! This is really my favorite youtube series and every episodes is getting more exciting and addicting. Can't wait for the final reveal. ❤❤❤
I am the exact same way about wall colors. When we built 20 years ago, i had all the walls and ceilings painted a flat ecru, just to serve as a base coat. I knew that i would select an overall color palette for the house, but each room would have a unique version of the color palette. That way, our home was cohesive without looking too much like a model home, or a rental or flipped house.
Every time I see a new video from you, it makes me smile McKenna. I love the first thing that you do is show your mum that’s brilliant. Now I get to work all day in a great mood because of your video . You’re always so happy and positive no matter what your life/renovation throws at you. It’s such a great mindset to have. Thank you for making my day.😊
I’ve been binge watching your home renovation and I’m so excited to know you’re almost done. My favorite part has been you not knowing how to do a new DIY but you do amazing each time!!!
This whole Home makeover and how you have gotten so professional from your DIY’s years ago in L.A. and Remembering back when you purchased your first Electrical saw/screw gun. I’m so so HAPPY for you and Romeo💕 So exciting to be involved, and come along with you, Blessings aways…."XO” thank you.
You did an outstanding job!!! With each task you complete, you have the knowledge and experience under your belt to be able to do anything. Thats invaluable!!!!!❤❤
I loved watching MaCenna climb into the fireplace to reframe the opening! It’s so great to see all the details of projects like these-especially when they require adjustments/revisions. Great content!
Also, you literally keep me going Macenna!! Your work ethic and positivity is so inspiring. Whenever I’m dreading working I watch your videos because you’re so passionate about all the things you do. So happy to watch you through your journey!
I admire how you have taken this house and transformed it. Your vision is extraordinary. I'm excited to see how it comes together and can't wait until you start the interior design process. Like you said, don't expect everything to be done by a specific date. It's about the process.💕💕
It blows my mind just how much you need to decide/design before even starting!! When your house is all done, if you could please make a video/blog post about every single decision you need to make before building a house (and in what order), I know a lot of us would really appreciate it! 😍
Gosh! This is exciting. We are close to seeing more and more DIYs and such. And a lot of pretty things and getting to see you decorate the house with all your thrift finds. So exciting!!!
Every layer is just putting the icing on the cake. I'm so proud of you and your accomplishments. A woman can do just what a man can do. See you Thursday.
NEVER STOP WORKING ON THE HOUSE- .I love your videos - would be lost without them. My hubby has Leukemia and my 22yr old son is Autistic -which is a hard life - so your videos give me such a great lift. Amazing woodwork/work etc for a young girl. Well done. Deirdre /Ireland
Watching you build the windows, I totally had a moment thinking about how far you’ve come since your early channel DIY days making small projects… Love this series and can’t wait to see where you go, even once the makeovers are done :)
You have amazing vision and the ability to make that vision a reality! Great job MaCenna on the reno and 800,000 subscribers. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are amazing and one smart young lady! I have always loved to build things furniture, deck, portico, kitchen island but I’m in awe of what you have done, and how you figure it all out! I can’t wait for all of your video’s! See you Thursday. You really deserve that awesome vacation. ❤️
Estoy aprendiendo muchas cosas contigo y m encanta cada vez q pones un video, soy feliz!!!!! Esperando q ya empieces a hacer el interior q es lo q más t gusta a ti y a todas!!!!! Lo mejor para ti!!! ♥️
You are just such an inspiration!! You are amazing!! I admire how you actually get stuff done even if you’ve never done it. Thank you for sharing your journey!
This is so exciting!! I just started watching, but I can’t wait to watch room makeovers and see the colors that you choose for each room! Everyone has worked so hard on this house and you’ve gotten so much done very quickly! Wonderful job and I can’t wait to see your dream come to life!!!!
Loved this video MaCenna.. the bit about your fire place ☺️ and how you where expecting a glow and all.. I thought the same. Made me giggle. Eeeek it’s so exciting how it’s coming together 🤎 this journey with you is just flipping fantastic 😘 love Belfast xO
You’re really an inspiration for women who are afraid to pick up a tool , been tagging along since day one and years before that and you’ve grown so much 🙌🏻 keep it up 👍🏻💯
honestly lady.......YOU ARE A BOSS.....is there anything you can't do ??? You are such a good roll model for women everywhere , that we can do anything if we put our minds to it....you go girl !!!!
I just got home and it is 11:10 PM EST, I was so excited to see there was a video from you!!!!!! I’m sorry I laughed when you climbed into the fireplace to fix it❤️❤️❤️. I’m with you on what your fireplace was going to look like. Gas is so much cleaner than wood, no ashes to clean up. Love the brick for the fireplace well done MaCenna on the choice as always. Is there nothing you can’t do, I love the transom windows. If you leave for Europe after this video please enjoy your well deserved vacation with Romeo❤️❤️❤️
I think you should narrow the side pieces in the transom to line up with the edge of glass in the door. Continuing the line up. Looks mid matched to me. Also that trim your reusing was meant to hold the glass against those larger pine pieces. You could have skipped the rabbiting all together.
I had the same exact thought the transom looks a little strange with the thick side pieces. I built my house with interior and exterior transoms with uniform narrow side pieces that did not match the glass width in the door. It is very beautiful and I am very ocd about things being symmetrical. This is one area I think looks beautiful being more glass and uniform to each other throughout the house rather than the specific door.
I swear McKenna, you are so darn creative. I’m going to hire you to renovate my house. I love all that you do, mistakes and fixes. So, so talented. Have fun in your trip. I’ll be patiently waiting for more reno vlogs when you return.
Macenna those doors look phenomenal!! Like wow!! So stunning and with the glass in them , I'm getting goosebumps lol Have you thought about stained glass on the top door?
I have a question about the transom windows... wouldn't it be easier to put the glass into the frames before you install them into the walls? I don't like working over my head so I'm just curious how much work that's going to be to install the glass overhead afterwards. I can't wait to see how this progresses... so interesting.
I think she said some have been broken or got dirty because of the contractors, so she’s waiting for them to be done 💕 so she doesn’t have to do things 2 times
It's just a matter of slotting the glass pane in the slot and possibly using putty or just nailing the trim into position. She will most definitely use a taller ladder to see it head on
Ok, I had to stop everything I was doing just to watch your video. 😂 You are doing a fantastic job! I have some old cards that belong to my great grandma who was a teacher. The dates on the back are 1898, 1899, and 1900. I know they are a little older than your house but I could totally see them framed and hanging on the wall in your cottage.
I'm not sure you understand just how much you have helped us make decisions about our own homes and inspired us to take action. I know for a fact you've helped some of us avoid mistakes or consider new and better ways of doing things that we might not have known about before. My bf and I have been looking at houses and, at first, we were looking at new construction. Now, I'm trying to convince him to get an old house. I said, "We can do all of it, and I know we can because MaCenna is doing it and she taught me!" I think he's kinda mad at you, tbh. 🤣
The advantage to old home is a established neighborhood in a older area. That can also be a negative unless the area is worth the cost you will put into the house. I would look at a college town or vibrant down town so the older home will be in growing area.
My husband works for the manufacturer of the Heat & Glo. That's such an awesome fireplace. I can't wait to see it all done! We're about to do the same thing, but I won't be building the framework.... You go girl!

Good information!! Thank you!!!
Adding a reply so MaCenna is more likely to see this.
hope she sees this comment
great idea 💡
Agreed… drywall texture is so easily damaged before getting it primed to set it.
I get more and more excited every time there’s a new episode. Almost there! 🙌🏼
Me too 😜
I also think the best is yet to come….decor!

That's exactly how I feel. Then I have to wait for the next one. I loved the vlogmis. It was every day. 😄
I know the feeling! I loved her vlogmas and wish it was everyday. Sigh ....
She is coming to europe. I live in the Netherlands. To bad I live too far away from Amsterdam. I would love to meet her and Romeo.

MaCenna is such a badass. Jumps headfirst into so many projects most people would be too scared to try themselves. Amazing!

Watching you build the windows, I totally had a moment thinking about how far you’ve come since your early channel DIY days making small projects… Love this series and can’t wait to see where you go, even once the makeovers are done :)

You knocked it out of the park today. That transom window was amazing. You should be so proud🥰
When you made the transom I said out loud "girl you did that!" and my cat looked at me like, what did I do? 🤣
When will cats stop taking credit for human achievement?
Yay! Super happy that I don't need to wait every Sunday to get more vids on the renovation.

Have you thought about stained glass on the top door?
This was special. So much information. Details. Behind the scenes. Little stuff, but so interesting.

I am continually impressed by you for learning new skills to build your dream house. 👏👏👏
Macenna you are amazing, talented, smart, and I enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work.
100% need a blue print or floor plan of your home! It’s absolutely beautiful, and very inspiring.
She will most definitely use a taller ladder to see it head on
@@seewendy1 Macenna could have stored it instead of install it though.
Shes gotta make sure it fits before doing all the extra work, its gotta come back out to be painted too
Actually Is it possible to use the original transoms you've saved as having them able to open and close in Heat would be Smart Living CHOICES 💯💘
Ok, I had to stop everything I was doing just to watch your video. 😂
You are doing a fantastic job!
So proud of all the things you set your mind to make this your home. I look forward to seeing more projects . Love you
My husband works for the manufacturer of the Heat & Glo. That's such an awesome fireplace. I can't wait to see it all done! We're about to do the same thing, but I won't be building the framework.... You go girl!
