    Who takes the bet that once the renovation and designing process will be over, Macenna will appear in an article of one of those famous home design magazines with a picture of her in the middle of her beautiful kitchen? I can already picture that.

    Absolutely love the stone detail. My grandmother's house has something similar with the columns and everything. I know it might be too early to start thinking about this, but I think a vintage greenhouse would fit beautifully in the backyard.

      Yes! With a beautiful little cottage style garden around it. They could trellis some climbing roses on the black iron fence too.

    Love the stone details! Just be careful when "levelling off" the yard. You need a slope so heavy rain can run off . We left a slope on our block and have no trouble with rainwater pooling anywhere. However, many of our neighbours who chose to level off their yards are continually having to deal with ponds in their front and back yards.

    🌺. Mcenna, You need to save all those pieces of stone and use them in your landscape 🌱. They will tie everything in even more. You could use them as borders around flowerbed’s and trees, or possibly a walkway would be so beautiful. I absolutely love the fireplace stone. It’s absolutely stunning 🤩

  • @wandaarganbright4056
    @wandaarganbright4056 2 роки тому +102

    You paid for each pallet of rock. Have the masons stack all the usable pieces on a pallet and move it back behind your storage building. It can be used for flower bed borders or along walkways. There is a lot the pieces can be used for. Even bookends on a book shelf! BTW, deer and other, above and below ground, animals do not eat marigolds!

    I really love that you've changed the layout to suit your lifestyle while at the same time paying homage to your 100+ year old house by recycling so much of the breadboard, windows and doors. The addition of the outdoor firestack and columns with the future wrought iron gate will feel like it had always been there.

      I know, it is a strange choice. Here in the UK everyone hates the orange peel stippled look and we pay tradesmen to plaster over it to make it smooth. I don't really get why she wants orange peel?

    • @lauramitchell6725
      @lauramitchell6725 2 роки тому +1

      It’s cheaper,it’s just sprayed on as the paint finish,I don’t think they even have to sand first.🤔 I’m sure that in Europe there are many more skilled plasterers because it’s been passed down for hundreds of years, but here in the states,there are not a lot of young people who are learning the trades.

    • @hahna77
      @hahna77 2 роки тому +1

      @JMK I'm not sure of the trends in other states, but I do know that its very common here in Texas. I don't believe I even know anyone here that doesn't have textured walls, unless they are wallpapered that is.

    • @lauramitchell6725
      @lauramitchell6725 2 роки тому

      @@jmk1962 I don’t think “she wants the orange peel” because she’s so excited about the level five finish that she’s getting in the original cottage open area. She indicated that because it gets so much sun light, it will be an appreciable difference,however it wasn’t in the budget to do the addition with that finish. The orange peel is significantly cheaper and since she’s getting the lowest texture,it’s not going to look like an eighties popcorn ceiling. Since the bedrooms,bathrooms,closets and laundry room are smaller and will have a lot of fabrics and decor,😉 it will be interesting to see if the texture is even noticeable back there.🤔

    It’s been a while since I’ve checked in on your channel, so coming back and watching this video blew me away at how much progress you’ve made! I will admit that upon hearing your plans to reconfigure and modernize the house’s window and floor layout (particularly the opening up of the living room, and subsequent loss of the formal entry hall) I was initially a _tad_ hesitant.* However, seeing your vision begin to actually take effect has largely dispelled those doubts as (while making some drastic changes) you’ve thus far maintained a decent bit of that desirable old world charm.
    *Not to imply that my concerns should in any way be interpreted as pressure to do otherwise as it’s your gosh darn house with which you can do as you please; I’m simply someone who loves old architecture, and as such tend to be ambivalent about many of the modern modifications made to said architecture.

    I love that you’re recycling the bead board. You can’t even buy it like that anymore. It will help insulate the house too. As for the stone. If you wanted more darker colors in it, it could be faux finished. Meaning an outdoor..maybe enamel paint blotted on it and spay finish over. When it weathered it would be even better. It would be a ton of work though. I do love the rock the way it is though. I see why you love it. Looking great!

    My Dad would have talk to you about bench like with back splash or back going up the wall areas to each side of the Chimney. These had a purpose to hold extra wood . Some were boxed in and others just had porch like roofs.
    As wood sheds were built these became stylish seating or potted plant areas.

    Wow, we have now officially met the Comfort Cottage Mascot: Comfy, The Armadillo! MaCenna, I love how you teach about stuff you're finding out like the level 5 paint. I had no idea about that and as soon as you started explaining what it's for, I had to take note! Please keep doing that, even if it's stuff you think people don't care... some of us genuinely do care, like showing the AC unit, for example. I'm taking a ton of notes!📝

      I agree that there will be some sadness once the house has been totally renovated and she and Romeo and Kinsley have moved in. BUT we can still look forward to watching the landscaping take shape. AND it will be really exciting to watch the guest cottages getting built! There's still plenty of videos yet to come, and we'll be here to watch and share in every moment!

    As a Brazilian, we use concrete for EVERYTHING here, and I don't understand how u guys use wood in the interior of a fire place. Is so cool to learn those differences.
    Also, I've been watching all the renovation process since the beginning and is easy to see it will turn out beautifully, congrats for the work, you're so talented!

    • @chasetonga

      It will be lined with brick on the inside part you can see. Then there will be a large metal pipe going up the chimney. The fire will not be able to get to the wood.
