    Very bold of you to do something that a professional charges 100 dollars for, but then you do it and it turns out perfect. You are so incredibly talented and creative. Seeing this house coming to life is so much fun! Sundays are my favourite day because of it.

    Not sure why I teared up when you put the first window in, but I’ve watched this whole series with the cottage and I’m just so happy for you. This video in particular made other women like myself know we are capable too! Thank you for saying f*** you to that glass company and going for it girl you just made all your lady viewers so proud! 💪🏼🤍

    Just a few FYIs.
    I knew what you meant when you said some windows were single pane and some were double pane, but actually these are both single pane. Double pane refers to two LAYERS of glass with an inert gas in between. What you have are some window sashes that have one lite and some that have two lites. Yes each light is made up of a pane if glass but “double pane glass” has a specific meaning that means something else.
    Also I wanted to alert you to something if you are using linseed oil. While it’s a great product, rags soaked with linseed oil can spontaneously ignite and have caused innumerable house fires if not handled appropriately. Make sure you are cleaning up any rags or brushes per directions on the product and it’s a good idea to store them outside the house and far from any other combustibles. You’re doing a great job. I was so glad you remembered the glazing points! As I was watching the video I almost thought you had forgotten them! 😂

      I was looking for this comment. I was so confused when she said the original windows are double paned and I'm like uh no they aren't... then I realized what she meant. I wonder if the quotes she got for windows were affected by that verbiage.

    • @sanjamslm
      @sanjamslm 3 роки тому +3

      I was just thinking these are NOT energy efficient windows. She will have condensation in between those panes beacause they are not sealed as they should be. But again maybe if the winters are not very cold in Texas it shoul be okay.
      I also have to say that I am amazed how she tackels everything by herself! Amazing woman! 🤗

    • @katyasolodyan8013
      @katyasolodyan8013 2 роки тому +3

      @@sanjamslm would you please explain what you mean about the condensation “in between those panes”? If there’s only one pane, where are you saying the condensation should occur? This whole process is so fascinating. I love all the crowd-sourced info

    MaCenna, your continuing to prove how incredibly strong you are to take on every project but taking on the windows wow that’s pure dedication and love for your house and budget. The cottage had helped you gain so many skills.
    With the glazing you can use a glazing knife to help shape it.
    I hope the film will help insulate the cottage and improve the single pane windows.

      I got talked into buying triple-pane windows. The salesman said I wouldn't hear neighboring lawnmowers. Yeah. No. I still hear them. Another factor was I'd get a rebate after 4 or 5 years. Yeah. No. The person in charge of the fund fled the country with everyone's money.

    Currently doing this for my 124 year old Queen Anne's storm windows to get ready for a Michigan winter! I absolutely L-O-V-E the empowerment that comes from taking the reins on these kinds of projects, and feel so accomplished when my projects are completed successfully. Added bonus: it is always cheaper, and usually the results are better when I do it myself, because I truly care about the project, and take my sweet ol' time, where a lot of contractors are just in there to bang out the job, get a check, and move onto the next one. Nicely done. :)

    The addition is bigger than what the original house was. This has really been a labour of love. Nothing better than having a home where every inch was made exactly as you envisioned it to be. I hope this home is forever filled with love, laughter and happiness. Hopefully little feet will be heard running on those wood floors soon 😉.
    It's so weird seeing a house being built out of wood. The closest I've come to a dwelling like this was our holiday log cabin, all houses here are built out of brick or blocks. It's quite fascinating watching your house come together. I love it.

    Seeing you doing this all by yourself whenever you can gives me so much anxiety. I know my parents did a lot on their own when they could when they built their house in 2003, but it was more like painting, window/door trim, some light plumbing, flooring, etc. I would never think to try my hand at windows! But you go girl! I honestly can't wait to see it all finished!

    I'm proud of you for persevering to open that jar without asking for help. Girl power!
    A recent project by landscape designer, Jack Barnwell (check out his UA-cam channel), he scorched wood for an exterior shower and treated it with linseed oil. He said it protects the wood and makes it last longer than pressure-treated lumber. It's a stately "cottage" on Lake Michigan.
    I do think you're going to need a bigger jar of linseed oil. 😊
    I saw your cute cricket roof. Sure, they may have planned that all along, but we homeowners do have to supervise their work because we know every inch of the plans. I had to ask the electrician move a can light in my kitchen remodel because she'd placed it too close to the cabinet instead of evenly spaced as on the plans. I'm sure your workers appreciate your level of accuracy you provide for them. It prevents rework.

    MaCenna, you are so talented and I am enjoying this journey with you. As someone who has built three houses I have a few ideas for you. When they do your electrical make sure you have outside plug ins if you want to hang Christmas lights outside. Also make sue that the framers put some Ply wood down in your attic for flooring. I did not see any plywood down on the floor of your attic in the video and it is so much easier to do it now. Also when they finish your plumbing, make sure that you have plenty of outside faucets to do your watering, at least two if not four faucets. Keep up the good work!

    I love at the end of the video, the left side of the screen looks like the "before" of the house, and the right side of the screen is the "after" of the house! So cool to see how far it's come!!

    Man you are smashing it woman. This series is the best thing on UA-cam. I look forward to your video notifications each week. And the best thing is when the main house is finished, it will happen all over again with the guest cottages 😊 coz I don't want this to end.
    Cheers from Australia
