This Season was absolutely phenomenal! Probably our favourite piece of media we’ve reacted to on the channel. What did y’all think? Manga readers, does it get any better than this??
Each arc will only get better. Especially because we'll be introduced to more incredibly interesting and life-altering new characters that Thorfinn is going to meet. And oh yeah, this episode is pretty funny. It's because the manga itself is quite funny, whimsical, comical from time to time (it became more prevalent upon the introduction of Bug eyes). It's just that the anime chose to cut out those panels because they wouldn't fit into the dramatic tone of the anime (specially with their dramatic osts being played)
@@glue12324One of the lead animator said "Thorfinn's Journey will continue" they haven't confirmed the season 3 but they have given hints and it's safe to say third season will come.

About Wit Studio vs Mappa's handling of Vinland Saga - it's more of a change of label than anything else. The team is essentially the same - Shuhei Yabuta as the series director, Hiroshi Seko as the storyboard writer, Yutaka Yamada as the composer, Yoji Sato, Michiru Itabisashi, Tadahito Matsubayashi all return for episode direction, Yusuke Takeda as the art director, key animators return etc. Overall I'm really happy with what the Vinland team has achieved. Whenever we talk about adaptations elevating the source material, we usually think in terms of animation, visual effects, voice acting adding value to the scene e.g. Ufotable turning Demon Slayer into a hit with their incredible VFX, Eren, Erwin, Grisha's voice actors making Perfect Game and Memories of the Future into such special AOT episodes. But what impressed me most was the direction of Vinland's adaptation. The handling of episode 9 this season. Rearranging Thorfinn and Einar's vow over Arnheid's grave from before Thorfinn's confrontation with the Vikings, to E23. Adding new content that fit seamlessly with the narrative. We first saw this in S1 with Thorfinn's prison scene with Leif being anime-only. In S2 the entire wagon sequence with Gardar and Arnheid was anime-only - and it is one of the most beautiful episodes not just in VS, but in anime itself. Shuhei Yabuta and co. aren't just passionate about the story, they _get_ the story.
The ending to S1 was the conclusion to the prologue, with glimpses into the future of Thorfinn's journey. Through all of S2 we are shown Thorfinn's rebirth. The ending to S2 was showing the true starting point for Thorfinn's mission in life. The "beginning of the journey". It also shows the "beginning of the journey" for other characters that were influences in his life, heading out into the unknown. So Thors and Helga, as they risk their escape from the Jomsvikings to find peace. The beginning for young Leif, when he probably decided to cross the sea to see what was out there (ie Vinland). And young Askeladd, after his mother death and having gotten his revenge, setting off to see where the road might take him. It shows them all at the start of their big journeys and now Thorfinn is joining them.
This is the perfect ending to the season for me. I loved every second of it, and cried so much. It was so great to see Thorfinn finally see his family again. Helga recognizing her son right away, even though Bug-Eyes was being a goof saying he was Thorfinn was so good and made me cry along with Thorfinn. My favorite line in this though is when Einar is talking about staying somewhere else and Helga says "If you're Thorfinn's brother, that makes you my son. This is your home. Don't be shy." I honestly had to take a break for bit from that. It's so heartwarming and it's just, so nice to see Einar finally have a family again after his was killed. Just, perfect episode. I love it so much.
15:41 "Almost looks like Canute" I am so glad you pointed that out. In the manga, Thorfinn is forced to get his haircut by his sister Ylva because he looked too much like a barbarian to ever get a girl or something. For a while, the villagers mocked Thorfinn stating that he looked like a girl or something and later comforted by Einar that this seems to be the ideal look for someone who yearns for peace and wants to do what he wants to. They seem to have skipped this in anime for some reason (likely time constraints); also, it is extremely unlikely that they'll visit this in Season 3 either.
That scene takes place after Sigurd's introduction so they'll probably include it in season 3. I think they either didn't have enough time to include it in season 2 or thought it wouldn't fit the season finale that well
I found it so funny how he desperately wanted to keep his beard (which is interesting because Thorfin goes against all that a man should be during this era but he argues that „a man needs a beard!“) but Ylva just shaved it anyways. And afterwards Thorfin suddenly just continue shaving because we never see that fabulous beard of his again.
@@FlyingLine I really doubt so. People couldn't even deal with watching a farm; why would they forcibly include a sequence-broken haircut scene to pilot the season? Also, the upcoming arc is humongous and idek if they can fit it in 24 episodes; it would make sense if they cut content like this out instead.

The reason that guy is called bug-eyes is because his name is also Thorfinn. Leif found him and bought him when he was a slave thinking he was the Thorfinn he was looking for and ending up taking him in as his son. So Bug-eyes calls him dad. They had a convo in the manga that they will call him bug-eyes (much to his dismay) so they don't confuse the two.

First of all, thank you for those great reactions, I was always looking forward to the next upload, especially for this season. I really love season one, but the second season just took it one step further for me. The pay-offs and themes were just sooo good, and I really like stories that take their time to give the characters room to breathe and develope.
Bug eyes is sort of right leif is getting really old, if he keeps doing this he could now be put in danger. Bug eyes is just worried about his only family.
Ylva knocking Thorfinn on his ass with a single punch was something I wasn't expecting but feels perfectly plausible given how much she looks like their dad.
Me and my friend watched this whole season together, and after this episode I literally said "Damn, Thorfinn is the new Jesus." and we laughed a whole lot, but for real, Thorfinn would make the priest in the first season so happy, he has become the embodiment of love and peace xD
Drott couldn't knock out Thorfinn with 100 punches, but Ylva could with just one punch 🤣. Maybe an allusion that Ylva inherited Thor's strength or something?
Finally this felt like a long but amazing journey watching S2 with you guys! Congratulations on finishing S2 but now another pain starts which is waiting for the next season! 😭👏
"We've wrapped up Thorfinn's main character arc" The most drastic changes are done but our boy Thorfinn isn't done developing by a longshot, even in the manga over 100 chapters later
If you guys want to know more about the author of Vinland Saga, he recently got interviewed by Gigguk (the guy who did "AoT in 9 mins"). It's a pretty chill and wholesome vid. Not sure if it'd make a good reaction content, but it's a great supplement for understanding the author's message. ua-cam.com/video/Z7BH6YQeWoI/v-deo.html
I think season 2 was much better than season 1. But in a way, season 1 was perfect as well if you see them together. It was just a necessary backdrop for this season, where I feel the real message of the author comes across. Such a great adaptation by MAPPA for such a legendary seinen. I think one of my favorite things about the adaptation is the lack of many of the classic anime tropes such as inner monologue explaining things you just saw happening. The media just speaks for itself, it's done smartly, and with great attention to detail, and such a passionate cast of voice actors.
I was lucky to watch season 2 week by week, it was actually such a fantastic experience looking forward to every monday just for an ep. Vinland saga jumped to my top 5 faster than any series ive seen in my life.
17:14 Ari lost his teeth when he tried to take a swing at Askeladd after Thors was riddled with arrows. Askeladd easily knocked him down with a punch and then criticized Ari for being a brat, no where near equal to a man like Thors, and pointed out his stupidity for immediately trying to waste the life Thors just gave up his to save.
After the second season, Vinland Saga became my #1 favourite anime. Loved rewatching it with you guys. Very excited for the Mob Psycho reactions, that's my #3 lol
Askaladd knocked Ari's tooth out when Ari attacked after Thors was killed. I find Ari's new found meekness as hilarious. Thors asked him why he was interested in Ylva and he said it was because she was cute and Thors just laughed at him. Thors knew Ylva would run him through the mill lol. And Helga calling Einar her son was very heartwarming. She grew up around warriors and slaves so I imagine she could tell that Einar had been through a lot and needed a place he could call home. Not sure what the flashbacks symbolize but I think young askaladd was shown as well as thors symbolized how both the goals of askaladd and thors informed thorfinns mission. Thors ran and askaladd wanted a country without slaves and oppression. And finally, hot Thorfinn is hot.
I really love the way they ended this season. They didn‘t choose the scene with Askeladd without purpose, no, it certainly has a meaning. Although Askeladd barely had any screentime this season, he still massively influenced it with it big moments. What Askeladd did there is putting a flower on his mother’s grave in Wales which is the reason why he sacrificed himself in S1 Ep24. Without the grave, Season 2 wouldn‘t have been the same! Little Thorfinn talking to Thorfinn is actually from the very first episode of Vinland Saga with the difference that he was talking to Thors. Replacing Thors with Thorfinn is very symbolic and shows how much he has grown in the season and how similar he is to his father. A perfect way to wrap up the season!!!
Awesome reactions to the season guys. I totaly agree about this season being better than the first one. When it comes to personal relatability, and also, the animation, the pacing, supporting characters and character arcs. This season offered stronger moral discussions, and backed up the characters actions is a way that made sense. I would say the show has affected me on a personal level, I feel calmer after it. This only speaks to the level of story telling in this Anime. It is trully one of a kind. I never thought an anime of all things would make me ball my eyes out. Ange you are a psycho for not crying, I thought this show would finally get you. I was wrong.
His homecoming is so wholesome. That’s what we all wished for him (though after rewatching it a few times I do have to laugh a little bit each time Helga says „You have grown so much“ and then there is Thorfin with his 155cm ). And it is soooo chataric that Helga sees Einar as her own son. He finally found a new family after loosing his first. Though it was a nice fanservice moment with seeing a young Askeladd it also left me very confused why he was there. It didn’t add anything to the moment or was even relevant (understood Helga and Leif’s younger version because we just saw them a few seconds before). There is a theory that Askeladd was added there because there could be a OVA about his past in the working.
You can't help but give Mister Leif a standing ovation. Definitely loved this season more than last season. If it's true that people quit the show this season then thats a shame. Mappa out here reminding everyone why they're one of if not the best anime studios out there.
As far as which season was my favorite, I’m conflicted because Askeladd is one of my favorite characters in all of anime, but I agree with y’all, the theme of season 2 was so powerful and inspiring. I’m so glad y’all enjoyed this show, it’s my favorite anime, and one of my favorite stories every. Funny enough, my favorite show of all time is Avatar the Last Air Bender, which I know y’all are watching
Yes and now we wait for s3 and baltic sea arc , if you think thorfinn's character arc is done well think again , it's just gonna go deeper and deeper from here , especially when he meets HER bringing along some bad memories of the past , both my fav character and my fav arc so I'm hyped
Episode 9 was my favorite as well until 22-23, which i just consider one thing. But from what i have seen, episode 9, all the depiction of hell/valhalla, askelad is all anime only. What an amazing decision to really expand that idea into so much more depth of what was going on in Thorfinns soul. Apparently Arnheid and Gardar were not that in depth either, which that decision really put the sadness in focus for the ending. The cost of these choices was apparently losing Snakes backstory, but given the message of the season as a whole, i cant say the choices were wrong. Its rare to see writing where every character feels like an actual person, where you can really connect because everything they do and experience is real like this. I'm so excited for what is to come, but i'm also glad we got so much that if we dont get it, its still the best written story i have ever seen animated.
Every season or 24eps covers 3 hardcover volumes of vinland, so telling how theres 6 hardcover left, we should expect at least two seasons, no clue when the next one will air.
Initially, I am a little bit disappointed that they change the mother's line from "You have your father's eyes" to "You look like your father". Since that line specifically is a payoff from season 1, when Thorkell ask Thorfin what it means to be a true warrior. Thorkell then tease Thorfin, that he didn't learn anything from Thors since he didn't have Thors' eyes. But after watching it again I just realize, the ending scene where Thors and Thorfinn see Vinland together is a subtler way to say that now Thorfin have Thors' eyes. Now he can see what his father see. Now he know what true warrior means.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't sigvaldi (the jomsvikings leader and the father of Helga, Thorfinns grandfather) and king Sweyn related, with this making Thorfinn and Cnut related as well.
They were almost all freelancers while they were working for Wit so they are not really "Wits staff" but now they are full on Mappa employees and they are part of Mappa staff
has anyone noticed? They've completely changed the panel from the manga to anime. In the manga, Thorfinn did the retelling of his past to everyone after his hair was cut by Ylva. But in the anime, it was before his hair was cut. He literally still have his hair long! Just some observation. I'm not saying it's bad. Fettered Tern arc is next. We're finally going to meet 😍
@@Kaika433 yeah, i was hoping they would show that in the anime because Thorfinn and Ylva's convo was pretty wholesome and heart-warming in those panels. "Now i have proof that you are really Thorfinn"🤣

Each arc will only get better. Especially because we'll be introduced to more incredibly interesting and life-altering new characters that Thorfinn is going to meet. His face changes are iconic and represents how he'll be in each arc
Peak show, peak reacting ❤
yep i'm still crying at helga and thorfinn reuniting, love to see it
Absolute MASTERPIECE!
Thorfinn was not prepared to receive a punch from his sister
She was shown whaling and doing other things in season 1 so it's definitely meant to be understood she's as physically strong as Thors
Thorfinn himself stated the fact that he was slightly dodging Drott's punches, where's with Ylva, he wasn't ready for the punch at all.
ylva uppercutted thorfinn in the chin. getting hit there shocks the brain.
Girl also got that thorkell genes
Been waiting for this 😊.
Finally this felt like a long but amazing journey watching S2 with you guys! Congratulations on finishing S2 but now another pain starts which is waiting for the next season! 😭👏
What an absolute masterpiece Vinland saga is, you guys‘ reaction tomtgis anime always filled me with excitement, especially your discussions.
"We've wrapped up Thorfinn's main character arc"
The most drastic changes are done but our boy Thorfinn isn't done developing by a longshot, even in the manga over 100 chapters later
Technically speaking, his character development is kinda done after Baltic Sea war arc. From there, we just see consequences of that development.
His mom 😢so cute
17:20 he lost that tooth when Askeladd smacked him after Thors died
w anime, w season finale. I dont know how can I wait 2 years to see thorfinn again
Anime of the year EASY !
And now begins the journey into the Baltic Sea. Can’t wait for you all to witness it one day
I was lucky to watch season 2 week by week, it was actually such a fantastic experience looking forward to every monday just for an ep. Vinland saga jumped to my top 5 faster than any series ive seen in my life.
This season was 10/10 🤌🏿🔥
17:14 Ari lost his teeth when he tried to take a swing at Askeladd after Thors was riddled with arrows.
IDK if the new Ylva is all that new, she was already shown as being physically strong and rather ruthless when she was first introduced.
@@hannessteffenhagen61 autocorrect. Should read "Thors knew" not "this new". Gonna edit it
I really love the way they ended this season.
Color meanings for the eyes: Blue when it’s light light sky blue it’s for DREAM, dark blue EGO and Brown for the ROOTS, NATURE
Man i get so emotional seeing Leif's seigh of relief when Thorfinn and his mother reunite
Never have I seen a show of any medium, so full of meaning and depth.
I was teary eyed multiple times which is considered crying for me lmao 😆 And it happened the most with this show which is saying something!
@@CarlieAndAnge Yeah fair enough 😅
I loved your reaction regardless, hopefully the show gets you in season 3😝
Honestly, one of my favorite anime seasons ever, absolute masterpiece in my opinion.
Vinland saga is truly a masterpiece and I enjoyed watching your reactions!
Ylva got that Thors in her 😅
Peakland saga 😩❤
17:27 I think he lost his teeth when Askellad punched him in the face
Btw the montage at the end also showed a young leif and askeladd in case you thought they were new characters
15:19 Talk about AskeCHAD.
My fav anime so far🙌
Yes and now we wait for s3 and baltic sea arc , if you think thorfinn's character arc is done well think again , it's just gonna go deeper and deeper from here , especially when he meets HER bringing along some bad memories of the past , both my fav character and my fav arc so I'm hyped
Bro Leif discovered Vinland itself, Thors knew he was the Real deal an he is what a True Warrior is!
Looking forward to your reaction to Op's and Ed's of this show🔥
Bro I love the intro. Do you have a full cover?
"Hi mum, I met uncle Thorkell."
Ooo yeah, they are related. I wonder if Thorfinn mentioned it but it was glossed over in the anime.
@@Un1234l its the same in the manga, which is understandable but very unfortunate, it would have been nice to see helga talk about that
I feel like payoff for this story will be majestic Ngl🐐
11:26 I guess we know who inherited thors’ strength
Well it’s the same core team that animated the 1st season they just left wit & join Mappa
one of my favorites in 2023 so far
The manga is about 26 books long and season 2 is around the end of book 14
It's been a journey😭😭
Not really important so they didn't show it but ylva was the one that cut his hair. It looked like a bowl cut till Einar ruffled it up
Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't sigvaldi (the jomsvikings leader and the father of Helga, Thorfinns grandfather) and king Sweyn related, with this making Thorfinn and Cnut related as well.
Distantly I believe
Yup
Lovely anime and lovelier reaction
I believe that while it is MAPPA, they had most of the original Wit staff work on it.
They were almost all freelancers while they were working for Wit so they are not really "Wits staff" but now they are full on Mappa employees and they are part of Mappa staff
@@wibes6043 cool. good to know
has anyone noticed? They've completely changed the panel from the manga to anime. In the manga, Thorfinn did the retelling of his past to everyone after his hair was cut by Ylva. But in the anime, it was before his hair was cut. He literally still have his hair long! Just some observation. I'm not saying it's bad.
Fettered Tern arc is next. We're finally going to meet 😍
Yeah they also cut the scene of him and Yilva talking while she cuts his hair, i'm sure that scene will be in season 3
@@Kaika433 yeah, i was hoping they would show that in the anime because Thorfinn and Ylva's convo was pretty wholesome and heart-warming in those panels.
"Now i have proof that you are really Thorfinn"🤣
@@Kaika433 I really doubt so. People couldn't even deal with watching a farm; why would they forcibly include a sequence-broken haircut scene to pilot the season? Also, the upcoming arc is humongous and idek if they can fit it in 24 episodes; it would make sense if they cut some more content out too instead.
Regarding Ari's teeth, I'm pretty much he lost them when he attacked Askeladd after Thors sacrifice.
this is not a spoiler but season 3 gonna be combination of the best part of S1 and S2. cant wait !!!!!
damm it i cried for llike 4 time now. Pieckland!
Lief is uncle iroh level of chad.
I can't wait when thorfinn find out about floki killing thors
Vinland Saga is powerful🥹
Season 2 vinland saga and the chimera arc from hxh are the best seasons in anime history period.
I think the Flashbacks showed the past and maybe we will See thorfinns past catches up to him?
what a ride mate, hope ur channel getting bigger and bigger ur length of every video is pretty much my fav from all those reactor videos, ur opinion from ep to ep and you guys didn't edit out too much from the show which is very good extra point for me. hopefully it won't be much shorter and shorter and become one of those reactors which pretty much only about getting more views (they all started with 20-30mins video and shorter video later on just to get more views) and didn't have any deep opinion about the show they all just only about those clicks and views.
Baltic Sea War Arc incoming much more intense tbh, & best arc of the series tbh thorfinn gets challenge a lot on his pacifism
Anime only will get annoyed by thorfin in next season 😅
masterpiece....BTW Thorfinn survived 100 punches from a guy called the "bear killer" and got 1 shot by his sister, seems like Ylva got Thors's brute strength and Thorfinn got the fighting tactics🤣🤣🤣🤣...and I can't believe Thorfinn summarize 2 seasons in 1 night🤣🤣
SPOILER:
....
We will see Thorfinn's rizz next season
Thorfinn was not prepared to receive a punch from his sister
Absolute PEAK. This arc was done very good. Third season will be even better than this one, cant wait 🔥🔥
Vinland saga is not the horse, the cow, or even the dinosaur, it's the goat.
To me this is the greatest anime and Thorfinn is the greatest anime character
Vinland Saga seasons 1 and 2 had the same animation team, they just switched over studios.
