These last few episodes have been insanely good. Gotta be anime of the year! What do you guys think?
The remaining episodes are over on Patreon for those interested! www.patreon.com/carlie_and_ange
Oomf, wouldnt be too sure about anime of the year. The slow first half really had a bad impact on fans from the discussion threads I've seen, even though it had some of the most emotionally gripping episodes I've ever watched. On sheer popularity alone it feels like Mushoku Tensei or Demon Slayer might take it, but Vinland definitely wins in my heart
Totally agree 💯🔥
I’d say this is anime of the year for me. Anyone disagree it’s okay, you’re not my enemy. I have no enemies
Anime of the last 2 Decades for me 💀
Anime of the century for me
@@PyxytyDude Demon Slayer S3 was easily my least liked show i watched this year. Every episode was just excruciating to get through. Now i can understand if Mushoku Tensei wins it because it is an amazing story
No one in this world has enemies. The only real enemy that exists is yourself and a real battle is not fought on a battlefield, it is fought every day of your life and while you grow to become a great person of whom you can feel proud. That's a true warrior.
I grew up together with Thorfinn
I don't think that's the point. What you're saying is not true at all. We don't struggle with just ourselves, there are external struggles too, as much as there are people who have opposite objectives, who will try to undermine your own goals, no matter how self-centered and careless to the world problems you are (such as Thorkell and Thorgill). Also, your personal struggles sometimes aren't even your fault, you're just putting everything on yourself because the ideology of individualism you consume makes you think like that.
The point of the author is that violence should be the LAST option, we can face problems (personal or not) in various ways, but it does take a great amount of thinking and struggle to do such things, we're not perfect after all, and that's okay.
Thors' and Thorfinn's ideology is completely utopic, but it's interesting to see the contradictions in human's actions when they act in the most "ethic" way possible, as a model of what we only try to be.
Incorrect. That's a naive feel-good lie blind rabid fans of VS think. Reality is not this idealistic utopia that can be simplified as "I have no enemies." Monsters exist. Abusers of power and violence, who indiscriminately target and kill or ruin other people's lives. People exist who will target you or your loved ones without mercy. We saw all this especially the past few years in real life.
Will you "have no enemies" when the knife is to your throat or back? To your loved ones'?
@@PVMAS07 exactly brother !!! Well put idk why people go on saying literally don't have enemies and then some shit happens and they think of them as one .
I don't have any enemies, not even myself.
HE SAID IT; HE SAID THE LINE!!
dicaprio-pointing-meme.jpg
I have No Enemies.. no one has any enemies
'I don't have any enemies.'
A quote that many will never forget, what a line.
Fun fact : Canute attempting to stop the wave is a reference to a famous apocryphal story called [King Canute and the tide.]The context is a bit different, but it's a nice detail by Yukimura nonetheless
Yukimura's research and accuracy to how the vikings were in the past really show throughout the show, he's a amazing mangaka
Fun fact: The monologue of Canute trying to stop the waves was inspired directly from a story of the real King Canute, as recorded in Historia Anglorium:
"When he was at the height of his ascendancy, he ordered his chair to be placed on the sea-shore as the tide was coming in. Then he said to the rising tide, "You are subject to me, as the land on which I am sitting is mine, and no one has resisted my overlordship with impunity. I command you, therefore, not to rise on to my land, nor to presume to wet the clothing or limbs of your master." But the sea came up as usual, and disrespectfully drenched the king's feet and shins. So jumping back, the king cried, "Let all the world know that the power of kings is empty and worthless, and there is no king worthy of the name save Him by whose will heaven, earth and the sea obey eternal laws." "
vindland saga man.. to this day I still have no Idea how can you produce a entire season full of 10/10 episodes
Yep, incredible
There's an excellent source material and an animation director who really understands it
Yes but if this is a 10 then what is the next one?? Which is actually much better.
Facts
@@Bayard1503 People throw around 10/10 too easily, the only 10/10 this season is episode 23. This one and episode 9 are pretty close though, I'd give both of those 9.9's
it was nice seeing you both be understanding of einar's situation and knowing why he was as mad as he was because some ppl found him annoying at that point and I couldn't get why. I think he had the full right to say those words to canute and im even more glad thorfinn actually took him there with him.
I love that in this episode Canute demonstrates that it is impossible for him to control the waves while Leif in the very first episode says that he is a true warrior because he fights against the waves. I see the waves here as a symbol for the ups and downs of life. Canute in his attempt to control them fails while Leif learned how to sail them and reached Vinland.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but this show is just so well written.
Wow this is very good point, I didn't think about that!
This show is sooooo good man I was expecting this season to be great but completely exceeded my expectations
Note that king Cnut actually delivered lines like these in the past.
With different context tho, RL Canute just want to show to his retainer that he is not that powerful as a king, even tho that he is the most successful Viking king, he is just a human being and his power has its own limits. God, in the other hand is omnipotent, and his retainer should place God in the highest position even more than him.
In the shows Canute wants to defy God's power by creating paradise on earth even when he knows that his power is at his limits.
TLDR. RL Cnut "Yo I'm just a human like you, you should believe in God since he is the most powerful being. "
VS Canute : "God power is limitless, but I will do my best to create utopia for vikings, because God never cared about us, the sinner"
Seeing Thorfinn become the man his father always wanted him to be is honestly one of the best character arcs I've seen in any anime

@@godsteeth1574 If I walk home after work at night and someone comes up to me, stabs me and steals my wallet, I wouldn't say I "chose" that to happen. That person was my enemy, not by my choice.
@@halosaft that was not an enemy, that thief became your enemy, you should have been more careful and protected your things, Thors said you can fight to protect yourself.
This episode broke me. I wept... Ugly wept as he took every blow in the name of peace. "No greater love is there than this: that a man would lay down his life for a friend."
Next ep made me tear up ngl
He said the thing 🥹
Thorfinn :: I have no enemies....
Eren :: I will have no enemies.....
Yep eren in nutshell be like...I'll have no enemies left when there's nobody left lol
Eren = based; Thorfinn = more based
Both ideologies are from different perspectives
lol eren doesn't have enemies. his enemy was himself. this is if you really understand his real character esp with his convo with falco and reiner and him saying sorry to ramzi.
The amount of time i got chill from that episode is insane. This show is of of the best that ever exist
Definitely my top anime so far this year went from a show that I really really liked to one of my personal all time favs
Peakland saga 😭❤
With this episode alone, Vinland Saga just entered the 'The Big 3 of Seinen' - Berzerk, Vagabond and Vinland Saga
Nah attack on titan is better and I love vinland
@@mmor7380Attack on Titan isn't a seinen
@@mmor7380 bruh he's talking about the big 3 of SEINEN mangas
AOT is a shonen
@@kcknowshowtoplay4302 AoT is kinda seinen if you think about it

There's a big difference between them mate
This episode solidified Throfinn in the top 5 GOAT MCs
Greatest character development ever. Thorfinn is the goat🐐
FUN FACT: There's a real historical story called 'King Canute and the tide' that the scene is based on.
As a manga reader this arc was absolutely beautiful and absolutely necessary for character building. The things to come will be wonderful
"Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws." -- *Canute the Great*
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Canute_and_the_tide
I love canute showing that in spite of all his power, he is just as weak and helpless as any other person in this world. That wave thing really strikes hard for me.
No flashy action no over the top fight scenes, but still 20 mins of peak just through writting and direction....
Peakland for a reason.
Great reaction guys! ❤
For me this is easily anime of the year!
The next episode is crazy in telling yall be prepared
The way Thorfinn thinks is similar to (but not the same as) the first king of the walls, Karl Fritz from Attack on Titan. He went to great lengths to avoid using weapons in the face of cruelty and disobedience unlike kings prior to him. But we viewed that dude in a negative lens. The character development can change your whole perception of the situation.
not really though.. he stole his people's memories and free will kinda.. he didnt give them even chance to do diplomacy.
and his underlings were killing people inside the walls for his ideology's sake.
Thorfinn and the king of the wall are pacifists. But thorofinn protects himself, his family & friends while whereas the king of the wall doesn’t care if his people die.
@@sashasloan9072 That's not a significant detail. Their actions and core motivations are still the same.
PS: To some extent, the king did try to get outsiders not to mess with them by threatening a rumbling; when the worst comes to happen (wall breach in season 1), he'd rather die and let the eldians die than to have the power of titans fall into the wrong and feeble hands though. But once again, this detail doesn't matter that much.
The biggest difference is, Thorfinn takes full accountability and credit for his actions and doesn't run from them, he comes to terms with his sins and strives to be better, he is not a coward but a brave pacifist who will protect his people no matter what and is incredibly dependable, having pacifist ideals doesn't mean he is similar to Fritz, Fritz's pacifism is influenced by guilt and cowardice but Thorfinn's is influenced by guilt, accountability of his sins and resolution to take people who were hurt because of his action to a better place where they can rest in peace
except that Thorfinn is not a king and therefore does not have the burden that King Fritz has. Thorfinn would also not abandon people under his care, unlike Fritz who has a whole population left behind because of his ideals.
Speaking of which, a conversation between Thorfinn and Eren would be really fascinating.
I love this episode. The quotes, the philosophies.. the depth. 10/10
Next episode tho... ❤
You guys are legendary
You’re a legend
such a beautiful ep oh my lord
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
💪🏼⚡️💗🎉
the reason why canute tried to stop the waves is cuz the real king canute actually gathered people and tried to do this to prove that only god can, its documanted its history u can look it up
This ep is one of my favorite vinland saga one, everything about it is perfect and beautiful 🧡
The writing is frankly incredible. I googled Canute and there was a picture depicting the scene where he displayed to the people around him that he did not have control over the waves en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cnut
@ 3:57 Carlie, PLEASE. I was in the middle of eating my chicken wings when you almost made me burst out laughing. Luckily the food didn't go away from my mouth.
This episode is so good. Canute is displaying his motives behind his work. Hes describing the real love he learned with the priest. Hes saving everyone he possibly can no matter what, even the vikings, to put an end to all the madness.
03:59 LMFAO CARLIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Easily. Easily the anime of the year. What an incredible show peakland saga is. The story only gets better in the manga. One of the best works of fiction

I don't have any enimies in different sub😅
Einar role in this episode represent the simple mind
No it's to represent the peasants and the farmers whose lives the Vikings and Kings ruined
@@Ash_Wen-li yeah, like parents talking about the financial problems and the kid: I don't care I want a toy
@@oukenequinoxNot really. It's like workers complaining about the injustices committed by their government/ruling class.
But the leaders don't care about regular people so they reduce rights and the quality of life.
Einar is in the right. Dictators sit around talking about philosophy while regular people starve and die. The problem is that leaders are disconnected from regular people. Einar is here to remind canute that he is in the wrong, regardless of his reasoning
22/23 best episodes of this show or am I crazy ?
MUSHOKU TENSAI JOBLESS REINCARNATION
Eren: tatake!
Thorfinn: negeru.
I don’t actually think Canute was flexing. He has seen Thorfinn fight. He knows how dangerous he is. I think that at that moment, he felt like he needed protection from Thorfinn because he had turned down his request.
This entire episode of Vinland Saga was just incredible. Almost everything in this episode was great in my opinion.
- The Vikings even Drott having respect for Thorfinn as a true warrior.
- Thorfinn finally saying the words his father Thors (and even us viewers) wanted him to say and believe in all this time.
- Olmar admiring Thorfinn's determination and strength to fight for Ketil's farm without any violence.
- Einar showing us the pain of an average person getting caught in the violence caused by ideals of people like Canute.
- Canute revealing his true ideals on how he will make his version of "Paradise" on earth
As a non native english speaker I never got that insult that Thorfinn tells the guy that's punching him. Middle part? What is that supposed to mean?
I think it means the way his hair are combed
They are parted in middle
Basically making fun of the way he split his hair. In the manga he called him split-hair
@@Ash_Wen-li oh okay. That makes sense lmao
Canute here is trying to like challenge Thorfinn's conviction and ideology. If im not wrong.
Anime of the year attack on titan
I think it would be weird if AoT wins with just 2 episodes released this year
@@LuisSierra42And those 2 eps aren't even the best parts of that series
Vinland and Fullmetal actually made the decisions in Attack on Titan look really bad
wut?
Yes.
FMA:B had a very optimistic and utopian outcome, it was beautiful.
AoT is the alternate reality where things didn't work out, and all the responsibility was heaped onto eren.
Am I first?
