Spec: 4K DolbyVision Display; Intel 8-Core Xeon W-10855M @ 2.80GHz; Quadro RTX 4000. This is the bigger sibling to the ThinkPad P15 & the successors to the ThinkPad P73.

This is an outstanding and incredibly in-depth review, one of the best I've seen! It covers so much details. As an owner of a P72 (which is very similar to the P73), I was extremely interested. Internals of the P17 are vastly different from the P72, with much beefier cooling and no SATA slot.
Keyboard: Lenovo uses several keyboard manufacturers (at least 2) which may result in varying keyboard quality in term of feel. Maybe you got a bad or sub-optimal one. The good thing is that they can be easily replaced.
Unit not lying flat on a table: this happened to me on my P72 after 1 year or so. Don't panic, it can be trivially fixed by closing the laptop, taking it with one hand on a corner and the other hand on the diametrically opposed corner, put the laptop against your leg and apply force on both corners to slightly deform the rollcage to make it flat again. I'm not kidding, the thing is a tank and this procedure will not damage it. In fact, it is a feature that the roll cage is deformable, for absorbing shock.

Thanks for the warm comment. Just testing a longer format as an one-off. Imaginably it took quite some time to make this (so we won't get to do this often); a possible learning in the future is to leave some videos at the hands-on video stage only; try to do some reviews with some condensed performance stuff (e.g. Under 20mins) & test the longer format stuff if we have time and find the product interesting (once or twice a year).
Re. Keypad, yes - look forward to try a few more units. So far the P15/P17 keys appear to have a distinctive feel (when compared directly to their predecessors). Will still feel decent vs some HP/Dell models.
To me this all screams very poor quality control. I’m baffled how they get away with asking this high price for such flawed products

Hi! Great video - fantastically comprehensive and in-depth. I am considering getting a workstation, I build large and complicated financial models in excel. My current laptop (Microsoft Surface 2) struggles with certain macros and openning and closing the large excel files and I spend large periods of the day waiting on the processing. Do you think this would be a good option? If so, what spec would you recommend? If not, what would be your choice? Thank you for your help

The Thinkpad P17 Gen 2 has issue with LEFT fan. DO NOT BUY this laptop if you like work with silence in health environment. It has High-pitched whistling fan noise even on low speed fan, if the speed is up the unhealthy noise is also louder. The replacement with new cooler doesn't fix the issue because the problem is with fan design (sunon). Similar issue is with Thinkpad P15Gen2 but there is a chance to replace it with other producer (non-sunon). If your health and comfort is important for you do not buy this laptop.

Thanks for the hard work doing this review. What will be a better overall choice? Lenovo thinkpad P17 (20SN0027MH) vs the ThinkPad P73 20QR002LMH. I can buy the P73 for €850,- and the condition is like new.
If you can get decent warranty, either are good. I'd opt for the P17 for the more easily serviceable chassis.

Hello. It is able this laptop to render a 4 k scene in 3ds max, for a short period of time, or should i use a desktop for heavy renders. I mean the p17 with intel xeon cpu and the rtx a4000 gpu?????
Desktops are always more powerful. P17 is close to as far as you can go with laptop.

The model has a decent CPU. 🙂 Should be okay for the lighter projects. The next model up would be the P15 Gen 1 (with a more powerful GPU).

Xeon is comparable to the i9 or high end i7 of the same generation, additionally has some enterprise friendly feature support.
Main comment is that the CPU is considerably (almost conspicuously) high end, whereas the Quadro is slightly lower end by contrast (you'd probably want a P15 Gen 1 or P17 to cool a Xeon properly, otherwise it might not be much faster than an i7) - one wonders if an i7-10875H + T2000 or RTX 3000 might give you more headroom).

Can thinkpad be charged by 30watt type C powerbank?
Likely not. You'd need the 170W or 230W charger to use it normally, whilst charging.
If you switch on airplane mode, this one probably accepts a lower power - but 30W is very low.
If you keep it switched off: it might charge slightly / slowly? (haven't tested though).
You can probably try this on a T14s / T14. The P17 is a different class of machine (in terms of the increased power requirement).

Some one please help me out on which one is better? either LENOVO LEGION 7 || RTX 3080 + RYZEN 9 5900HX || 32 GB RAM or this reviewing one?
Depends on the use case. This is a workstation for professionals mostly, doing design, rendering, CAD, etc, built for 3-5 years use. Legion is great for the spec, it's a consumer laptop topically built for a short usage e.g. 2-3 years.

It's not a small purchase, so, sounds like more research needed on your side. For heavy stuff a workstation is a safer bet. Watch the reviews if you want on the P17. We're not really gonna say more.
At this point, laptops should not be called laptops. More like mini desktops. Who uses them on their lap?

Why bother with a huge laptop like this? The new M1 Air beats actually the 10750H Cpu easily at not even 20% of power draw. Huge plus also that you don’t have to put up with Win10 and its horrible update strategy causing instability and flat out failures regularly. Recently I also experienced that Lenovo’s own BIOS updates brick the Thinkpads, i got lucky with the implemented secure BIOS feature and the laptop reverted to the last one. How on earth this can happen on a professional grade machine is beyond me. I have since sold it and will never go back to Windows. I don’t even mention the bad battery life while having such a huge battery module inside. Can’t even compete.
Different use case. M1 doesn't support eGPU atm and only 1 monitor out, Windows support is patchy on the M1 (many users are still Windows based). With Windows laptops the OS is separate can of fish.
Look forward to a fully fledged M1 Mac. For a while at least it will coexist with Windows laptops.
M1 MacBook Pro has v. Impressive battery as you've mentioned. Each to their own.
@@GreenGreenStore Rigth now, my new P15 will arrive soon and I hope it delivers for my usecase! I am adding a 2TB nvme along with the 1TB it comes with. I hope to have better battery life than with a gaming laptop at least.
