Offering your seat to women used to in fact be common. I was taught to do that. I only do it now in non-public settings, as in not public transportation. But at a party or some other similar social setting I will offer up my seat.
I think a lot have places have turned into a jungle, like public transport.

In my country it used to be common to give up seats to women in general, when I was growing up.

Even at the call centers I used to work at, someone with face tattoos wouldn't get hired because we did have international clients who would visit the call center to evaluate us and not every country out there has the same views towards tattoos the US/UK does. Only acceptable tattoos were the ones you could cover with a long sleeved shirt. Even face piercings would effect what advancement you could go for.
