Hey @Iron Gordon i learned about a Denim compound cutting pad that can work out your 2k clear coat orange peel & imperfections without sanding, then move on to polishing,...& you know, careful on the edges.
Okay, I'm gonna help you out. Ignore the boomers and know that what you've done here is nothing short of magic. There are a lot of young kids in my hood that wanna paint their bicycles or skateboards kandy, but of course they don't have the resources to do that. Now, I can point them in the right direction. Simple instructions and humble materials; it's perfect for those of us who love this style but are tight on money. With all that's going on right now, people need something constructive to pass the time. God bless, and thank you for the inspiration!
HA HA thanks! yeah some of the experts have missed the DIY/budget friendly aspect of this project. could the results be show room quality if you used a $200 buffer and $40 bottles of polish? SURE of course it, can but if you want to make something shine with consumer grade supplies, its totally do-able! Thanks for your comment I appreciate it!
As an automotive painter, for an even deeper shine you could spray 3-4 coats of clear then wet sand it with 1000 spray it again and you’ll get a very deep shine, also you should buy a heavier cutting compound such as Wizard Mystic Cut (i prefer it over others because it’s water base and doesn’t leave hard residue) and then meguiars #7 or either the meguiars you’re using it will most defiently improve your quality
Wow! I first watched the previous vid where you do the silver metallic flake and I was really impressed. Then when you said you were going to use that to create another look I thought that was insane, but the end product you produced is like a work of art. It's unique and vibrant and 50 years from now I'm sure it will still be blowing people away,
Saw the thumbnail of this video and instantly clicked on it. I was not disappointed. Absolutely the best spray can job on a guitar I've ever seen. Stunning work. I am subscribed!
I've watched 100's of guitar build videos and never seen anything like this. Very cool approach and the result is stunning. Aside from the 2K incident (you're right to be very afraid of it - it's great but it will kill you) you really showed some cool new (for me) techniques. Gracias!
Hello; I just signed on my computer to drop you a comment and tell you how absolutely stunning your paint job on this guitar looks. I don't know how this video doesn't have 7 millions views instead. I need to repaint a vintage Japanese Les Paul I screwed up the paint on after having to move the bridge back with a neck replacement. I grew up with a dad who's a retired automotive paint & body man, so I kind of have an eye for what "perfection" looks like with people painting well... anything. These other "professional" guitar painters on UA-cam I watched, some of them just don't look good, despite having the right tools & methods for professional painting. I'm just absolutely blown away at how good your guitar looks for having used only spray cans. The first video I was really impressed with, but this one took it to a whole new level. Using that fabric to create that layered effect in the beginning, it looks like a guitar a see-thru burst effect without you having used traditional methods to accomplish it. And your attention to detail on the backside, something most people ignore, taping all those intricate patterns and shapes. It's just amazing. I can't say enough good about your quality of work and guitar from this video and your other one, and also thank you for sharing your techniques for this. I left a sub and I'm going to share this video on some guitar restoration boards, people need to see this!
Wow thank you so much for the glowing comment, I really appreciate it and the shares! People definitely tend to write off spray paint as something that is half ass. But with a little patience and practice Quality paint jobs can be produced. Good luck with your project, do you plan on striping it down? Thanks again man!
Super glad that you included that tedious part of sanding and buffing it. Lots of dudes just show the finished product and not how they got it. Good job to you.
okay, I am going to help you out. the job is nice, but you have to admit, it could pop a little more instead of having a milky reflection of the lights. if you want to really have a mirror finish where you can read a newspaper in the reflection, you have to use different polishing technique. First, you have to use a rubbing compound to remove all of the scratches!!! Otherwise, you are just polishing the scratches; which is what happened here. After the compound follow up with polishing compound and finally with ultra fine polish. each time using different buffing pads made for each job. Never cross contaminate. I am not writing to criticize your work, I think it is fantastic. You just need to finish the job. I hope this helps, BTW, I have been doing this for 35 years, I know what I am talking about. oh, and yeah. I like how you emphasized safety, most people don't read the can..
That palm buffer isn’t anywhere near powerful enough to correct the wet sanding. Going to 3k then 5k and finally hitting it low speed with a foam pad and cutting compound then work your way back to polishes and a glaze with a DA will yield better results. That paint job is killer though!
I liked it alot good job but he's right , when you learn to cut and buff with a automotive type setup it will take your art to the next level. I recommend practicing on your daily driver just to get a feel for it.
Dude once again that is awesome. Great work man. By watching your videos not only have you given me full confidence to do the repaint job on one of my guitars I am doing, but with part 1 and 2 of this video series you answered all of my questions. Thanks man. Keep up the good work.
PS, I love how people suggest an improvement, as if this isn't a video on how to do a quick and dirty rattle-can job. They all want to tell you how this could be improved, if you were to do a "Professional" "By the Book" "Top Notch" $2K paint job. That's NOT what this is. It's how to do a killer "At Home" job, with little-to-no "Special Tools". I just think that they should keep this in mind, prior to telling you how to do something completely different than what you have perfectly shown us. This is THEE BEST at home, cheap, totally "Work with what you've got", and be creative video that I have seen. So, again, thanks!
Haha, yeah...while I'm willing to learn and appreciate peoples constructive criticisms, I think that the diy aspect of this job gets over looked by the experts that chime in.
Sooo would it make sense to go buy 2k primer, candy base coat, candy top coat, and some clear for a small job, not to mention the compressor, spray guns, one for primer, then another for base and clear, and more!??..then what it takes to clean up after for just a guitar, that would be hard to tell the difference by an experienced painter!???......
It's absolutely beautiful 😍👍😊 but how come .ost of the graphics are on the back???? Im getting ready to do one also so i thought I had better ask. Thanks 😊😊😊
Unbelievable man. Can’t thank you enough for your wisdom. Love the way you make it very understandable and humorous. What a piece of artwork. You have a gift 🎁
INCREDIBLE WORK! The creativity on the back, in particular, is top notch. I still can't believe how great the final product looks with just spray cans.
Loved the happy accidents reference. Bob was no doubt one of the greats in the history of painting. He calm demeanor and unique style was entrancing to watch and mimic.
I actually do have one question if you do not mind answering. I am using a vinyl decal on the headstock with a metal flake paint job on a guitar as you did on part 1 of this series. Since I am painting the body and the headstock the metal flake effect and since you said the glitter paint is bumpy before clear coat, would you suggest putting a light coat of the clear glaze first over the headstock and then the vinyl decal and then the rest of the clear coat? Or do you think just putting the vinyl decal directly on the glitter coat will not show up as bumpy looking underneath the vinyl and then clear coat finish as usual? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks man.
Wow! Despite my preference for thin nitro finishes.. this is amazing! I love Guadalupe too! I can’t imagine how thick the paint layer is at this point. It’s shocking to me that 10 minutes between coats is most of the time your waiting period. I’ll check out your channel more intentionally soon,.. but do you go into your filtration systems so it’s safe for you, the family and the neighbors? I am spraying nitro and keeping it safe for the neighbors is my biggest shop stress.
Thank you so much that was an awesome 3 part explanation and gave me some crazy cool ideas I’m a musician and professional tattoo artist of 37 years and got some killer ideas from you!!! Super cool!!!
Seriously you make me want to cry. The way you work is as if I was having a wet dream. No I'm serious.. I don't want to paint anything ever again. It is so beautiful. When you applied the lace...I thought I'd have a fit! Love lace and how come I haven't thought of it!? It is so obvious. I'm in awe. Guess you can tell I'm not a painter I just love seeing a pro at work it brings tears to my eyes. When someone has their shit down to the point that they can improvise and kill it...that piece of holed metal grid...so much fun! SR.
Thank you! What your seeing is years of screwing things up and starting over to get to this point, and I'm still learning with every project. Thank you though that was a rad comment to get! Keep painting!
The most beautiful job I've seen anyone do on a guitar yet. I've got an epiphone I've been modding. I did a terrible job relicing it and now I think I know what to do about it. Thanks.
after you use the light tack adhesive to hold your lace in place, is it safe to assume that you used either rubbing alcohol or a wax and grease remover to clean that off before spraying the additional layers and the clear coat on top? how long did you wait before wiping it with alcohol or cleaner? 10 minutes :-)?
That's crazy. I just bought a squier strat for $50 to try to customize as a first time project. I was watching other custom paints, but this is insane...and inspiring. I'm sure mine will look shit, but yours is gorgeous
This was beautiful to watch from start to finish. I was actually looking for how-tos on painting my guitar’s hardware; however, WOWZA! WHAT A FIND! Thank you so much. Brain Candy, for sure. I'm so grateful I stumbled upon this and watched the entire "I dunno, abt ten minutes." 🎸✌️😉🎸
Very nice work bro! Just a FYI Red scotch brite is equivalent to 400grt After activating your clear coat, if you want to get a bit more time out of it before it hardens in the can, lets say for another small project, through the can in your refrigerator till your ready to use it. It wont last weeks, but it will extend what they call the "pot life" Cheers
This video took me back carnalito to my younger years of making low rider bikes n painting them d same way...can’t forget d lace..lol...wow..then it me to my high school years turning my 73 Buick riviera into a low rider n pinstripes paint wit candy colors...could of used ur guitar back then to serenade to d China’s homie...lol...love ur work carnalito keep it d skills n ur videos u got d esse audience for sure homie
Your video has totally inspired me. Working on a Jazz Bass. Cant find Rattle Bomb retail . Will use testers. Cans are too small, but it should get the job done. Thanks for the inspiration!!
That paint job came out pretty nice. I gleaned some good ideas from watching your video, and I am inspired to try some of those techniques on a Stratocaster project. Thanks for the demonstration. Your guitar looks awesome, I hope mine turns out looking satisfactory. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Please have an excellent and awesome day! 🙂
Oh man, that is BLOODY FANTASTIC!!! I've been painting since I was a kid (learned on model cars, in the basement) and have done some metallics of course, on many full-size vehicles of many types. But this was just the coolest thing I've ever seen. Wow, there's a "Little Daddy Roth?" "Big Daddy" was well known to the extreme custom car nuts of the 60's.
Thanks Seth! Yeah Dennis "lil daddy" Roth is Ed Roth's son. He runs the Roth flake paint company, that has the Kandy paint I use in this video. It's really good stuff!
Ok, first, I love you're keeping up with comments. Second, I use that 2k rattler clear on EVERYTHING. From preservation of patina on antiques to rc bodies to $40k car touch ups. I pay about $20 a can, so it's definitely not out of the question for the average diy projects. Love what you do.
Great videos, helpful as alll heck. I should have watche BEFORE I applied glitter ... I'm also been using the automotive clear coat 2 part and it is great,, but yeah, respirator mandatory.
I've done this to my guitar using montana cans, I put a toffee top with a base silver sparkle on my epiphone explorer but I stopped before the clear coat because I liked the flat look too much. lol 10 years later, no chipping.
Iv watched this and the previous vid like 20 times in prep for spraying my motorcycle tank, fenders and side covers I cant wait to give it a try that les paul turned out amazingly
Have you ever sprayed that clear over the glitter blast straight. Or do you always use the rust oleum clear on the glitter blast first? Does that make sense. I’ve had problems with the max clear causing the paint to wrinkle up underneath on projects but you seem to have good luck and do amazing work
5or 6 years ago,I painted one of my guitars using pretty much then same methods that you used on this guitar. Today the guitar shows it's age but all in all,it still looks pretty good.
I've been wanting to repaint my drum kit but found all the spray paints available at home depot to be really bland or tacky. This spray paint is exactly what I was looking for, thanks man!
Ended up here while looking for ways to get a good metal flake paint job on a guitar without having to have a professional sprayer setup. I really dig what you've done with just rattle cans and it definitely gives the exact 60s metal flake sort of look that I'm wanting to achieve for this one particular guitar. Also really digging your other various projects and Instagram. Subscribed and followed. Looking forwards to seeing more content!
Well your in the right place for cost effective, no special equipment metal flake haha! I really enjoy the 60s era flake jobs. If you got some money to spare on the project, rothmetalflake.com has some flake paint kits that are a smidge pricy but look pretty legit and come in a wide variety of colors. Thanks so much for the sub and follow!
@@IronGordon - I followed through to the Roth Metal Flake website and watched their videos showing the rattle can applications. Looks pretty good, and I gotta believe the quality is probably there as well. There are a lot of bad reviews of Krylon and Rustoleum metal flake spray paint, but you have to wonder how much of that is based on early versions that had problems with the spray can tips or people that didn't know you needed to base coat beforehand. I like the idea of that super-durable automotive clearcoat, especially for a guitar. Thing is, I kind feel like to get the best results you should almost keep all paints you use in the same brand family so there aren't any issues. If Roth is using their paints, SEM primer and that clearcoat, it seems like it'd be worth a bit extra to buy their stuff rather than Rustoleum, which (on Amazon), is only a few dollars less per can.
Mister : one word : Perfect and beautiful !!! amazing and in your hands the woks is terrific easy and cooool !!! very good job acuracy mind and nice Les Paul junior .... Good day for you ... Eric froml France
The Bob Ross reference was awesome!! I'm getting ready to copper flake a project of mine but I'm not as skilled as you putting tape on. Keep kicking ass!!
Killer job! Definitely mirror finish it with 800/1000/1500 (maybe even 2000 finish) to get the orange peel out, then a rubbing compound cut, machine glaze, and final hand rub paste.
Awesome! I used to make one off painted t-shirts in a very similar way using an airbrush sprayed over all kinds of objects that create patterns. This was great fun to watch.
Here's part 1 where I metal flake this guitar first, using big box hardware store paint ua-cam.com/video/N8kgIoh_CDs/v-deo.html
incredible! do you offer your services ?
id love a custom paint job on my guitar
could someone skip the triple glaze and polishing from part 1 if you do both parts to your guitar?
Awesome Job! Quick question, can you skip the polishing and just level sand then go the the candy process and after that level sand and then polish?
Hey @Iron Gordon i learned about a Denim compound cutting pad that can work out your 2k clear coat orange peel & imperfections without sanding, then move on to polishing,...& you know, careful on the edges.
😂😂😂😂😂
I took your warning so seriously that I went to another room while you were spraying 💀 Excellent work Gordon! 👍
Haha that made me laugh! 😂
Hey there were three warnings on the can!!!
Always wear a condom so your fully protected.
Leftover paint on your hands could still be toxic especially during palm polishing
That is funny! Hey Sparky funny seeing you here.
🤣😂

Quality paint jobs can be produced.
Good luck with your project, do you plan on striping it down?

Hell yeah, this was a sweet paint job...
First time viewer here, and I subbed right away.
Can't wait to see more.
You know a product's good when it says *EXTREME DANGER* on it.
Bloody great job, this is some stellar stuff.
Looks awesome! I plan on using Lil Daddy Roth’s paint to repaint my Jaguar body.
The results are fantastic.
Now THAT is GORGEOUS!! It would truly be an honor to own that guitar. Beautiful work, man!🤘😎
Thank you so much I appreciate it! He was pretty excited about it

I'm an artist myself ( jewelry designer) but this guy it's great... I'm about to buy a guitar and practice what I saw.

Anyone that's done any kind of post paint finishing work for the automotive industry knows that this guy is correct.
That palm buffer isn’t anywhere near powerful enough to correct the wet sanding.
Going to 3k then 5k and finally hitting it low speed with a foam pad and cutting compound then work your way back to polishes and a glaze with a DA will yield better results.
That paint job is killer though!

Awesome, you definitely said it right. I just wanted people to glean from this project. Thanks for watching!
It's really good stuff!
that guitar is stunning and beautiful!
Thank you! And I'm trying to keep up with comments as fast as I can Haha!
What store you buy the 2k please?
@@ozoneswiftak I get it from the local auto body jobber. Might edit this, might respond again. It's available online

Great videos, helpful as alll heck. I should have watche BEFORE I applied glitter ... I'm also been using the automotive clear coat 2 part and it is great,, but yeah, respirator mandatory.
OMG ! wow !!!
skills and pure talent !!
Best paint job I've seen. Awesome.
Thank You!
Back again. Great talent. Well done.
Fantastic colours, brilliant job😊👍❤️
I've done this to my guitar using montana cans, I put a toffee top with a base silver sparkle on my epiphone explorer but I stopped before the clear coat because I liked the flat look too much. lol 10 years later, no chipping.
That sound like a good color combo! As far as I know this guitar is in heavy rotation and holding up well
Looks absolutely fantastic. Thanks for sharing your skills and huge artistic talent! 😊👍👍
I was going to skip over this first video on my search! WOW! I'm glad I didn't! 🥰🤩
Thanks for watching, thanks for commenting!
Iv watched this and the previous vid like 20 times in prep for spraying my motorcycle tank, fenders and side covers I cant wait to give it a try that les paul turned out amazingly
Doing the same thing right now, how’d yours turn out
yo, this is a killer tutorial and that thing is looking real sweet
Have you ever sprayed that clear over the glitter blast straight. Or do you always use the rust oleum clear on the glitter blast first? Does that make sense. I’ve had problems with the max clear causing the paint to wrinkle up underneath on projects but you seem to have good luck and do amazing work
I love your channel, For Mary, what type of sticky paper did you use?
5or 6 years ago,I painted one of my guitars using pretty much then same methods that you used on this guitar. Today the guitar shows it's age but all in all,it still looks pretty good.
Nice! Always good when something that has time invested in it last
I am a new subscriber to your channel. I have been doing this for years. You do great work I am very impressed
I appreciate it thank you!
I've been wanting to repaint my drum kit but found all the spray paints available at home depot to be really bland or tacky. This spray paint is exactly what I was looking for, thanks man!
Nice, good luck!
Man I wish you could do something that badass to my guitar, You are very talented dude!
Great job. I loved the Silver flake and your Gold flake.
Thank you Eric!
Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous. Thank you.
Man that is a cool paint job. You are very talented. Thanks for sharing this.
The Bob Ross reference was awesome!! I'm getting ready to copper flake a project of mine but I'm not as skilled as you putting tape on. Keep kicking ass!!
Thanks! Tape is cheap but a couple rolls and practice on some thing you don't care about first 😁
Good job Gordon, loved the result
Very nice! A true work of art. I think the pick guard would look better in a dark wood, instead of black plastic.
This was really interesting. I’m inspired to use your technique on my next guitar project. Thanks for posting this.
HERMOSO TRABAJO !!! Congratulations !!!
Killer job! Definitely mirror finish it with 800/1000/1500 (maybe even 2000 finish) to get the orange peel out, then a rubbing compound cut, machine glaze, and final hand rub paste.
nice appreciate the tips!
Awesome! I used to make one off painted t-shirts in a very similar way using an airbrush sprayed over all kinds of objects that create patterns. This was great fun to watch.
Yeah I love seeing airbrush artist paint shirts I find it fascinating
That is absolutely gorgeous fantastic job
Thank you!
Blessings for your talent! Thanks for sharing, from an artist to another, thanks for your talent! Great video! Keep the great work!
