  • In this video I demonstrate a really cool spray paint trick to create this awesome nebula sparkle finish using spray cans and dry glitter. I love this trick and I hope you guys will too.
    All you need for this is your clear coat, some fine sparkle/glitter, and of course the appropriate safety equipment.

    I hate being a stickler, but being a painter i have to say this. The sparkle and glitter turned out much better than i expected. The clear though, that was rough. If it were me, id put about 3, or even 4 more coats (since its spray cans) then cut and polish smooth. It may sound like a lot for little, but it will add so much clarity to the depth of your nebula

      Towards the beginning, he says that he is going to put on a few more coats in a few days. Good catch though, most people wouldn't think about it.

    • @BradAngove

      More coats and a proper cut and polish would be absolutely necessary to turn this into a proper finished product.

    More great tips again, Brad. Thank you!
    I've noticed that in the UK, we can get small bags of the "glitter" that you mix into your paint before either brushing it on or loading it into a spray bottle.
    This technique you've used here would be ideal for this product (although I've only seen it in gold or silver).

    Looks really cool, I'm a painter who does custom bikes, I get a similar effect with a big air cap 1.8 and put the glitter in the clear, then give it 2 more coats, I like to use it over flip flop paints, it really pops when the sun hits, or spotlights, I've done some plain black wheels and just put glitter in the top coats, that shows up in light but just looks black when in the shade, very popular locally with guys into modding there cars.
    Great idea, especially just using a rattle can.

You actually inspired me to do a sparkle job on my old 90's Crate 212 Speaker Cabinet. If I could bend your ear? The cabinet is particle board. I am using Rustoleum for all paint. So I did a bunch of Primer/Sealer. Now I am onto the Metallic base coat. Should I wet sand the Metallic before I do the sparkle or just wait till after the clear coat. I think I saw in another video that you don't have to buff base coat if you sanded. Thanks man. BTW the Metallic isn't super textured right now but I do have two more cans to spray.

    Thank you Brad for a great video, I was actually contemplating on making a sparkle finish. I have a question. I would like to make a silverburst with the silver having sparkle in it (kinda like on PRS SE Mike Mushok Baritone guitar). I was thinking: Primer -> Silver -> Black on edges as a burst -> First coat of clear -> adding the sparkle in the silver -> and finish it with clear. Do you think that is just too many layers?

    • @BradAngove

      The song is called “get back in the game”. I got it from epidemic sound. Not sure who it’s by unfortunately.
      I’m glad you like the video!

    What would you use if you wanted a red sparkle as base you used black would white look better with red

      That just depends on the effect you’re going for. You may want to consider a red base.

    Hey brad so just curious when you put the first layer of clear and threw on the sparkle did you wait an hour for the glitter to settle then put on the second coat of clear or just threw the glitter then second clear coat?

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  4 роки тому

      Second clear coat is 10-15 minutes after first as per the usual recoat times.

      Brad Angove Thank you I’m trying to do just a purple sparkle on one of my guitars but using the technique you’re using in this video it’s helping me a lot but was just unsure about the clear coat timing. Does the sparkle dry into the clear after the 10-15 mins? I’m just trying to avoid having a pile of it honestly

      @@braydencariveau7645 The 10-15 minute window is when the clear is dry enough to re coat but still wet enough to have chemical adhesion from the solvents in it without you having to worry about sanding before painting more.

    how many coats of lacquer did you put on first? how much is enough to go on towards the sanding and polishing stage .. thanks you!

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  4 роки тому +1

      Just one coat at the beginning. After that it depends on how many it takes to bury the texture.

      Brad Angove would 10 minutes between each coat of lacquer be okay?? i’m planning on having my guitar hung on hooks as i flick the extra fine flakes on

    A sifter or a salt or pepper shaker works great too

      You can also combine the different glitters in a single process.

      @@antoniop3352 possibly put the black glitter down first, couple coats of clear, then go with the other colors...?
