Ameraucana vs Easter Egger: Not The Same

NOTE: In 2020, the APA accepted Self-blue (Lavender) as a new Ameraucana color!
Ameraucanas are a true breed with a standard. Araucanas are a different breed with a standard. Easter Eggers are neither, though hatcheries falsely advertise their mixed genetics birds as Ameraucana/Araucana or worse, Americanas.
It is especially important to know what you are selling to potential buyers, or what you are buying if you intend to breed to a standard or show these birds in the future.

That blue Americana hen was awesome looking, like them all but she stood out to me.

To me it seems easiest way to tell them apart is the purebreds appear to have that true blue look to their legs aka "slate" coloring. Vs. The Easter eggers are typically another color like yellow or green. Looking at the eyes or other places is a bit more difficult.

Yes the purebreds have slate legs/white skin so they never appear greenish or yellow, however, I have an EE hen with white skin and light slate legs currently. Happens when you cross EEs and Ameraucanas, resulting in EEs.
