    I have 2 of these in my flock. I would not use the word “aggressive” for my two. Active, friendly and endlessly amusing. Very inquisitive. They “seem to like me” and stick close to me when I’m in my gardens. One lays blue-green eggs, the other is green-blue. My faves!

      Agreed. We have 11 between 2 flocks. Our flock are so quirky, friendly & amusing...they don't mind being pet & love when we hang out in their run, but they do not like being picked up. I have a laying hen who still has shoulder time everyday when I go in their run...when they are stressed they will let us carry them & instantly lay their heads on us. We enjoyed our regular chickens well enough...but the Ameraucanas were a total game changer for us...we love them so much.

    hahaha She's running the show.
    I've had a Self Blue Ameraucana Rooster for about a year and thought I had them figured out pretty well. But he (Silver) is a bit weird and I've found from the dozen more that I got back in Feb. fit your description pretty well. Slow growing little buggers but not from a lack of eating. They put away some vittles. Like a small tornado when I cut them loose out of the run. Only worry a little they are going to get themselves eaten. Edgy and cautious but fearless all at once. They will tear into the woods at the drop of a hat further than any of my other birds. And they don't like to burn any daylight and don't like to go in till the crack of dark.
    They're a mess but I'm enjoying them tremendously.... I'll be breeding them straight out but I keep Copper Marans also. Black and Blue but I've got a couple of beautiful Blue roosters I'm thinking to cross with Lavender Ameraucana's. They could catch the blue or black gene from the blue copper side but probably some pretty birds and my Marans lay some nice dark eggs. Maybe more olive egger first shot out the gate than easter egger? We'll see I reckon.

      Wow, that joke cracked me up! (Get it) Most of our lay blue, but one does lay a green one. We still don’t know which

    They are the most beautiful birds in my flock. Unfortunately I wished they lay more often. Their eggs are smaller in size too. Pale blue eggs. Extremely beautiful birds.

    Sorry, but I had 2 Ameraucanas (they were the only chickens I've ever had in my life) and they layed eggs almost every day, I'd say 4-5 days a week. We, family y of 3 had more eggs we could eat from just 2 chickens.

      Perhaps we just got the freeloading kind lol. Our family of 6 can demolish a dozen of eggs without breaking a sweat though!

      Same. Our black hens just started laying last week & we received 9 eggs from 2 hens on our first week...

    I have jumped on the americauna and marans kick haha. I have 3 splash, one blue and one blue rooster. I think the americauna chicks are the least skittish of any chick I have had.

    This appears to be an Americana (aka Easter Egger) and not an Ameraucana

    We live in kind of the middle of the woods but we still have neighbors we wanted a few chickens to get eggs so we didn't get roosters but the breeds I found were some of the nicest or the golden comets lakehorns aren't too bad they're a little less friendly and handelable but good leg layers and we also had the Easter egg or chickens although they're not that great at laying eggs ours anyway they're pretty cool though the golden comet chickens are extremely friendly they're kind of like dogs anyway maybe give them a try

    Well that was really interesting now I'm hoping that the black Americans that I'm probably going to get later on will be non Broody I've been told by the Hatchery that I'm thinking about ordering from that they are considered non broody how are yours? Or perhaps you don't have the black Americana

    • @GritandGrace
      @GritandGrace  2 роки тому

      Our Americaunas are broody, but our buff Orphingtons are the most “momma” type chickens we have.
      Althought we have black Austrialorps and Rhode Island Reds now, who are the big layers, so we will see if the rule the roost

  • @ShirleyLarson-LaMarche

    Would this breed rooster be a good match for a cream legbar hen for blue eggs and possibly auto sexing?

    • @GritandGrace
      @GritandGrace  2 роки тому +2

      Im not sure to be honest. I havent gone too deep down the rabbit hole of cross breeding.

    • @lenavoyles526
      @lenavoyles526 2 роки тому

      According to Cackle the blue eggs of the Cream Legbar come originally from the Auracana, so blue egg genetics should stay the same. Not sure about the autosexing. Might work the other way around? Cream Legbar rooster on a white Ameraucana hen?
