    Do you need to unhook the battery? Need to do any code relearns for the throttle bodies? Also anything to be aware of for someone doing this for the first time?
    Thanks for the great vid!!

      I didn’t have to disconnect the battery. And I didn’t clean the throttle body so I didn’t have to relearn anything. If you feel safer disconnect battery. But I didn’t.

    what was the grease you put inside the coils? which one did you use? and what is the purpose?

    • @AndyTheXTech
      @AndyTheXTech  Рік тому +4

      Dielectric grease. Silicone. Keeps moisture away and prevents the boots from getting stuck to the spark plugs.

    What size socket did you use to get rid of the bolts at 3:00 ? I’ve been trying to get that off for so long now

    Forgot to put on Anti-seize on the threads of the spark plugs

      Most of these sparkplugs are made with a special metallic coating on the threads that serves the purpose of acting as an anti-seize coating. You can identify it by seeing if the finish on the threads is bright and shiny, vs a dull color for plain steel. You would need to use anti-seize if you plan to reuse the plugs, as the anti-seize coating will be removed when you take the plugs out. Be careful when applying anti-seize to not over torque the plugs, as the lubricant in the anti-seize will alter the clamping tension on the threads. Generally you would reduce the tightening torque to about 70% of the recommended value for what the manufacturer specs for your car. For example, if the recommended tightening torque is 14 ft*lbs for clean and dry steel on aluminum threads then you would reduce the tightening torque to about 10 ft*lbs. The aluminum threads will strip very easily if they are over torqued or cross-threaded.
      Most of the torque that you apply when torquing down a threaded fastener is used in overcoming the friction between the threads and the seat surface of the nut or bolt. Roughly 10% of the torque you apply goes into generating the axial clamping force you want, with about 50% overcoming the seat friction and 40% overcoming the thread friction. When you apply any lubricant to the threads, including an anti-seize compound, you reduce the amount of torque needed to overcome the sliding friction in the threads and seat. If you don't reduce the applied torque you then are increasing the amount of torque that is converted to the axial clamping force, which can then strip the threads if it is great enough.

      As someone who's about to replace mine on '15 370z I can tell you there are 6 plugs, also I don't know how to say this...but if someone told you you're car has 5 plugs you've got an interesting car or bad info because that's a new one to me 😅
