They're not failures but by most accounts, Nissan didn't go anywhere near far enough with the redesign. The 400 would have been a really nice update back in say, 2010. But after 19 years of 350/370Z cars that changed little after all that time, people were expecting a lot more out of the new car. Ditto, the Titan and Frontier pickups. Too dated, even though their design is all-new.

Sure it's a fun car and a good-looking car, but you're not always tearing around. If you jump on the freeway for a 100 miles the noise is going to be fatiguing. Still, it's an awesome car and a great value.

I had a 370Z for a few years. I’ve noticed the motor is pretty noisy. So is the clutch too. I thought I had a knock but after doing researching and asking other owners, it’s “normal” lol
It was a fantastic and fun car. It never gave me an issue except for the clutch slave cylinder that went out. It’s located inside the transmission bell housing so it was quite some work.

Then moved to Charlotte while in Charlotte he buys a 350z 2003. Drives that all around Charlotte while he works as a diesel mechanic for the bus company parks the 300zx for 3 years. Goes to get a trailer when he's ready to move back to S.C to trailer the 300 home. His 350z goes in limp mode . He puts the 350z on the trailer and drives his 300zx home after sitting 3 years. BTW the 350 had a short in the harness he found a week later. .

I have a 2013 370z Nismo. Bought it in 2012 w/ 5 miles out the lot. Now it's at 225K miles. I go thru a set of tires a yr. I take it camping, go thru snow (light), take it on really bad dirt roads, packed lumber in it, and long road trips. It's my daily commuter as well. Still has the original suspensions. I red line the car almost every time getting on the freeway. Lots of fun zipping thru curves in the hills/mountains. I drove it over 100miles the 1st day I bought it and took it up to 110mph the 2nd day (which you should not do with new cars). I'm surprise the engine & car lasted this long. It had a blown head gasket for about a yr now, so I am replacing it at the moment. I'm not a mechanic nor have experience with car engines. Hope it turns on after I put it all back together.

Being a huge fan of the Z/G series Nissan/Infiniti have always had, I love the idea of a N/A engine. Adding turbos to an engine really make for issues down the road. We personally own a 2011 FX35 AWD and it is a blast to drive. For a 4300lb crossover, it absolutely flies.

I really like the new Z car actually. I understand what you’re saying about the turbos, but you’d be hard-pressed to not find a non GDI, non-turbo car these days. Also, we had a couple of the VQ Nissans in the family and while they’re great motors, they have their own set of issues. I do know a couple of people that have put a decent amount of mileage on the 3 L turbo that is in the new Z. It’s been out on the Infiniti for quite some time. I think the redesign is sharp, it mixes the perfect amount of retro with new, and I’m really excited to drive one. I actually think Nissan is on an upswing. For instance, they finally got rid of the awful CVT in the Pathfinder. While it’s not a pathfinder as we know it, still, it is definitely also an improvement over the last generation. I am rooting for Nissan. I’ve had a lot of them and I’m hoping That they get their groove back. Perhaps with Ghosn having been ghosted, we will see some welcome changes.

Scotty, I have the same 370z after driving it and getting the engine nice and warm and letting it sit for about half hour or more it takes about 5 to 10 seconds of cranking to start. Once it does start it runs fine. Cold starts are fine also. I was thinking weak coolent sensor or oil temp. sensor or cam sensors. Had it looked at and was told I had good gas pressure. Will a ODB2 scanner find the problem.

    • @hxhdfjifzirstc894
      @hxhdfjifzirstc894 Рік тому +2

These OBD2 'sensors' (I think you mean a 'scanner') can be USED by someone to track down the problem, but it's not as easy as plugging it in, and the thing telling you what part to replace -- you have to understand how to use it and what the information means.
As it happens, I once had a car that would die while idling and be hard to start when cold (the OPPOSITE of what you have). I replaced the fuel injector o-rings and never had a problem after that (it must have been leaking pressure in the fuel rail, as the engine cooled down). Cost me about $5 for the o-rings. I know I had the opposite conditions, but your results might be related -- I suspect that things can also begin to leak as they warm up.
I know that you said someone checked the fuel pressure. Did they check it when the car is absolutely cold versus still warm? I think you're on the right track by looking into fuel rail pressure or the cam sensor... but I'm not a mechanic.
Anything weird like accidentally running the car out of fuel, or adding fuel system cleaner recently? Could be bits of junk in the fuel now, or a weak fuel pump from overheating (from running out of gas).

They do have their flaws like any car but these are super solid vehicles. I said what I said. As far as the new Z with the VR30 engine.. it’s been good as it’s an evolving platform. But Nissan is still making amazing Sports cars. Something that no one does anymore. There’s a reason that the Nissan GT-R always win TX2K every year. But regardless, very informative video.

The 350 and 370 are good cars no one disputes that ... The new Z is not... A gtr does not "win tx2k every year". The gtr motor is a closed deck design that shares virtually Nothing with the new z.

There is a product called Scan Guage for 18 wheelers that hooks to diagnostic ports and gives the driver real time info that will help them drive in a more fuel efficient way. Would it be bad for me to use one of these since it stays plugged in?

Nissan has a special oil for engines that make some noises. I have no idea how well it works but it has an ester in it. I have no idea what the part number is or who actually made the oil. No auto maker makes their own oils but they try to use a good enough one and have some bottles of it labeled for them to sell in the dealerships. Depending on the oil or fluid they might not go through the trouble of getting it in private label bottles. I believe Toyota is that way with their transmission fluids. Like if you bought some WS fluid it would most likely still have Aisin's label on it or it may even be obviously Mobile One. Even if they did buy it with Toyota branding on it there is always someone who knows what it really is. It is only a matter of time before that cat is out of the bag and it will not want to go back in!!! The key difference is Volkswagen will sell you a WS spec fluid but it has their label on it and costs a heck of a lot more!

Nothing wrong with an "own brand" oil, engine or transmission, always check the specifications, they are written on the can.

My wife drives 04 350Z with 47,000 miles. Fun car to drive, but damn it's small. Only issue we've had is the fan assy went bad that I had to replace. Wouldn't you know it I get a recall notice like 3-6 months later.

Scotty, I’m an old man. Purchased a set of brake drums and shoes for the rear brakes on my 2005 Silverado, and installed them myself. The drums were from Detroitaxle.
Took me and three mechanics to diagnose the pulsating that I experienced after installing all of that, to not being the front disc brakes being defective, but the new rear drums being defective!
You see, I mistakenly diagnosed the pulsating feel I was getting after replacing the rear brakes to being the front brakes! Never dreamed the new drums were the problem!
Of course Detroitaxle didn’t want to warrant the drums because I had them on for forty days before realizing they were defective! Which they only give 30 days for free returns apparently! Oh, they offered after I asked to speak with a supervisor, to allow me a replacement or refund if I would pay $113 to ship the defective ones back….I paid $137 for the set!
The ones I bought locally ended up costing me $225 for the pair, but they actually work!
Just wanted to ask you if you ever tried Detroitaxle parts and what you thought about them? I know you don’t mind calling it like you see it!
    Thank you sir!
    I love watching your videos!

My local Nissan dealer had a new 370Z base coupe MT (Black) with an asking price of ($25K) on the windshield; MSRP was around $33K at the time. Believe it was 2018. I was seriously thinking about it, but didn't pull the trigger. Still have some regrets on that one...
