  • Hey guys please check out my latest reaction video to heart stairway to heaven Kennedy center which was a tribute to the great led zeppelin. Just an incredible performance by heart and so much more meaningful seeing Robert, Jimmy and John there to appreciate it.

Robert misses his friend John Bonham and to be surprised to see Jason on stage playing his fathers drums hit him deep. Heart is so fantastic that even the huge resistance to women in rock n roll couldn’t stop them. Don’t miss Jimmy’s reaction to the enormous choir that comes in towards the end behind the band all wearing the infamous bowler hats worn by John Bonham. It’s emotional.

The story goes that Robert Plant had invited Jason Bonham to sit with the band in the honorees' box, and Jason declined because he "had a can't-miss gig" that night. Plant cried because this WAS the "can't-miss gig"!

Robert got very emotional, because he was thinking of John, seeing his son playing his drum kit.

Jason Bonham on drums son of John Bonham the Led Zeppelin drummer who died in 1980. Led Zeppelin packed it in when he died. Robert Plant was devastated when he died.
They are all wearing the Bowler hat, UK or Derby, US as John Bonham did.
Jason looks to the heavens at the end.

Heart had been encorporating Zepplin songs into their live set list for years, and I'm sure had performed Stairway To Heaven live long before this. But never in front of Page, Plant, & Jones. This was Heart paying tremendous homeage to one of rock's most influential bands. This wasn't a cover, it was a compliment!

I'm so glad you watched this Jarrett! I loved your reaction & commentary. The greatest tribute performance I've ever seen!! Heart - Ann (lead singer) & her sister Nancy (guitar) - are the perfect choice to perform one of the greatest songs ever written to one of the best Rock & Roll bands ever. Ann's voice soars as always.
Annie Lennox & David Bowie coming next singing "Under Pressure" at the concert honoring Freddie after he past away. Queen and all star guests singing their songs. Even Robert Plant sang one!

The Kennedy Center Honors are held every year in December. U.S. Presidents always attend (well, except one recent one) w/ the First Lady-- Obama's entire Cabinet was there on this night. So glad you did this one, Rad. Though Anne Wilson was ill, and the plane Heart was on was delayed by weather (they had little prep time before giving this performance) this has to be one of the best Kennedy Centers ever, and, in my opinion, THE best cover of this iconic song. Not to mention Mr. Balls of Steel who played that guitar solo so well, with Jimmy Page looking on! Great reaction, my friend.

Kennedy Center Honors is a yearly thing dedicated to play tribute to the arts (music, comedy, dance etc) Each year 3 (or is it 4?) people are chosen and honored. Other people go on stage and do the honoree's stuff or talk about them etc. Tribute type things. The President is not part of the choosing but except for a certain 4 years they are there. While I agree this is the best one I've seen there are other really epic tributes from Kennedy Center out there. One that comes to mind off hand is Steven Tyler tribute to Paul McCartney and also Aretha's tribute to Carol King.

This is one of the most iconic lead-guitar lines in rock history. He didn't butcher it but he truncated it a bit - and that may have been to fit it within the show's schedule (which would be a crime - I'd rather see the guitarist 'fail' individually than to have a buncha stuffed-shirts castrate music). You're absolutely right - "this is a production." Absolutely. And so well deserved.

Jarrett, i’ve been waiting for you to watch this video for a long time. You just witnessed an amazing tribute to Led Zeppelin! The guy playing the drums is the son of the guy who played the drums for Led Zeppelin I believe. I think it was the guy that was getting all smiley and emotional at the end. But what you saw was amazing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this video and I get teary-eyed every time. I’m grateful to have grown up on this music!!!
It’s the Kennedy Center Honors. The current President of the United States is always in attendance.

    • @God-ck5yo
      @God-ck5yo 3 роки тому +5

Yes, it is Jason Bonham, John Bonham's son. The bowler hat was a trademark of John, hence the tribute. In fact, the hat Jason is wearing was John's actual hat. Part of the reason for it being so emotional is that the guys have known Jason all his life and, indeed, the only time Zep ever played without John, after his death, it was Jason who played with them.

When Anne & Nancy were starting out, playing gigs in bars, college auditoriums and whatnot, they did a lot of Zep covers. They met Zep fairly early on, and the two bands were mutual fans of one another. Choosing them to do this was a no-brainer, and obviously they did not disappoint. I've suggested it to a number of reactors but no one yet has done it that I know of-- if you would like to hear another awesome Zep cover check out Immigrant Song (Anne Wilson solo, audio version). She slays it.

Rad: appreciate your intelligent comments-'reation' to this incredible performance. This was truly special, the celebrities/performers in the audience, the original band members, the original drummer's son playing for him, the incredible orchestration, adding a chrior (two actually), expertly combined, resulted in a phenomenal production/performance. It will never be duplicated.

A commenter on this video a while back made this statement:
    You are watching Rock Legends
    Cover Rock Gods
In front of said Rock Gods
On a night the Rock Gods are being honored
    For their Rock Godliness
Choosing the Rock Gods most famous song
    And they slayed it...
That pretty much sums it up. Afterwards Robert Plant told Ann Wilson he usually doesn't like it when this song gets covered but that night he liked it! Yes that had to be quite the emotional moment. I never get tired of watching this. ✌️🎶

Robert Plant said they had grown to really hate this song because the tragic covers had destroyed it. But this…. He said to Nancy Wilson , “Do you know how much I hate that song?” And I was like, “What?” And he said, “Because nobody ever does it any justice. But you guys did. Way to go!”
My sentiments about covers in general, I agree with him. But there are a few…. Like this one.

I was extremely skeptical when I heard Heart was going to perform this and it wasn't because I don't think Heart is great! I absolutely love Heart! But there are a few songs that should never be covered and this is one! Many have tried and failed miserably! This blew me away! Led Zeppelin was on a completely different level of greatness! When the drummer, John Bonham, passed away in 1980, Led Zeppelin ceased to exist and the remaining members didn't take the stage together again until 2009. They performed one show, and only one show at the 02 Arena in London! Here's the unbelievable part - there was 20 million requests for tickets! That's a record for a music performance that I don't see ever being broken!

If you watch the whole Led Zeppelin segment of the show, Jack Black did the introductions and a quick retrospective of the band. Then the Foo Fighters performed "Rock and Roll". Kid Rock followed with "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and "Ramble On". Lenny Kravitz rocked it with "Whole Lotta Love", followed by the Heart tribute. If you watch the entire show, also honored were Buddy Guy, ballerina Natalia Makarova, David Letterman, and Dustin Hoffman.

Also to have the son of their original drummer playing the drums with the hat on and then the curtain goes up and the whole chorus is wearing the hat it was very emotional for them you could tell

In addition to President and Michelle Obama, they also showed in the audience legendary violinist Yo-Yo Ma, choreographer Debbie Allen, and David Letterman.

This is the cut version, do yourself a favor and seek out the full version, it is worth the extra couple of minutes, I promise...

Yes, in a cursory couple of looks I recognized Lenny Kravitz, Dave Grohl from Nirvana and Foo Fighters, also Pat Smear from the Foos, two to Jack Black's right, our left.

Yes that was Lenny Kravitz and Davd Grohl and Jack Black. All did earlier tributes before Heart did their performance.

FYI - There is a full, unedited version out there that I recommend. This is the one from broadcast tv that shortened parts of the performance for time.

Oh my God The unedited version is 10 times better. I can’t believe someone suggested this version. Here’s the unedited. ua-cam.com/video/LFxOaDeJmXk/v-deo.html

Thank you for mentioning this (and Coldrush, below). It's better because it's unedited, because no one wants less of this! Still there's little point in seeing the full version after seeing this one, unless you're a particular fan. The verse and nuances and the theatrical reveals are beautiful, but I fear few would re-watch this for the 8% that was cut, unless some time had passed. The fact that the performance's inherent wonderfulness remains largely intact even in this rendition is a testament to their great...heart...they brought to this 'thank you'.

Yeah this was definitely shortened. There is a longer, better one.

You watched the CBS TV edited version - an insult to Led Zep and Heart. They cut out an important verse and half the solo. Cool you enjoyed it.
