Robert did not know Jason was going to be there, he had asked Jason to come but Jason said he had a gig that night. That is why he is near tears. Not only was Jason wearing his father's bowler hat, but he was also playing on his dad's drum kit.
I believe that Jason requested that the Wilson sisters perform with him on stage. David Grohl was practicing with group prior to Jason, Anne and Nancy arriving a day prior to performance.
Props to Shane Fontayne, an accomplished British guitarist who's had a 50-year career, playing with the likes of CS&N, Sting, Rod Stewart, and Springsteen. In an interview with Rolling Stone he stated that his Kennedy Center performance was one of his proudest moments.
He looks like Sheldon from big bang theory 😊. Is he a member of the Kennedy Center honors musicians? I love Rob Mathes. He's so talented as the director arranger. Also Kenny usually on drums. Are they permanent fixtures in the Kennedy center honors musicians? please let me know!
I am her age then now, if that makes sense, and I've adored these Sisters as if they were mine, since I was 15 and just heard them for the very first time. I'm so, so Proud of My Girls!
This is a timeless classic. They had to perform this in front of Zep and the Obamas! The Kennedy Center honors five artists every year. Singer Ann was 62 here. That’s Shayne Fontayne on guitar! The choir are like the angels ushering you into Heaven. They all wore bowler hats like Bonham used to wear. You might be indeed watching an edited version- there is a longer version I believe. BTW- you are doing a fantastic job! I’m amazed at how much information you retain and your love of music.
The Absolute Best Tribute Ever!! Ann & Nancy already blow it out of the water,,, The Choir, Jason and the whole Orchestra!!!! WOW Can't be beat and its chills everytime!
I have watched this so many times and I have the same reaction each time, just goosebumps. The whole show is amazing with the orchestra, the backup singers, and the choir.
Absolutely the best reaction I've seen to this great tribute. I personally don't think any other people could have pull this off so well. The one thing that really gets to me everytime is at the end when Jason closes his eyes and then looks up towards Heaven as if he's saying "Dad, you made it up The Staircase"... Also Jason is wearing his dad's Bowler Hat with the choir wearing matching ones. Robert had no idea Jason would be there and that hit him hard.
In my humble opinion Plant was also tearing up over the loss of his little boy that died at the age of 4. His son died of a high fever, totally unexpected. Maybe both his son and his beloved bandmate, John Bonham, hit him hard. I saw him furtively fighting back his tears, the lump in his throat...so touching.
Robert had invited Jason to come along - Jason said, "No, sorry, I already have plans." 😁 That's why you saw Robert stand up and point to him when he came onstage.
Great reaction. Now you mentioned that you watched the live version to which I assume it was the 1973 MSG performance from The Song Remains The Same. Jimmy extended the solo in the concert. In the tribute, the guitar player was closer to the studio version.
I saw an interview with Robert Plant and he said he hates it when bands cover this cause, in his words, "they always f#@k it up". But he thought this was brilliant!! That by itself is high praise. Led Zeppelin and Heart has been great friends for years, so the girls were the perfect choice for this tribute. 💜💜🎶🎼🎵🎸🥁🎧🎤🎙🎹🤘🤘🤘
Heart is worth digging into, they have some great songs. Led didn't like covers but were brought to tears in this one. The Kennedy Center honors aĺl kinds of people. Ann Wilson was in her 60's when they did this. At the end with Lenny and others, they all did Led Zeppelin songs.
Heart was the last one to pay tribute to Led, the others sang earlier. Jason is the godson of Robert. He surprised them, they didn't know he was gonna be there. I think Ann was 62 yrs old here.
Ann was 62 when she did this performance & Nancy on guitar was 58. Those gals are amazing rockstars! And I love how John Bonham's son played drums wearing his dads Bowler hat & how the choir also paid tribute by wearing Bowlers. Sooooooooo cool! His daddy is smiling down on this performance for sure. And one doesn't have to be 'better' than the other. Apples & orange. Both are amazing. Like 'Sound of Silence'... amazing by Simon & Garfunkel, amazing by Disturbed & amazing by Pentatonix. All awesome, all 'special' in their own way.
I always get goosebumps & tears watching this tribute to Led Zeppelin❤! Ann & Nancy were absolutely on spot, Shayne Fontaine was fantastic playing guitar, Jason playing his father’s drum 🥁 set & wearing a bowler 💥 the choir was wonderful and best was the reaction of Led Zep & the audience✨ Your reaction was so so good 💎💜☮️😂 greetings from Canada 🇨🇦!
This was actually voted the best tribute in the history Kennedy Center Honors. Also Ann has been called the female Robert Plant. The do a lot of covers and were their inspiration it’s ok to cry most everyone does!,, also the drum set that Jason is, set using was hid dad’s
Heart ( the wilson sisters ) have been around since the mid 70s and just killing it !! Before Heart made it big they used to do alot of Zepplin covers and even after getting big they would still do zepplin covers in concert . If anyone can cover a Zepplin song and get it right it is Heart . The lead guitar player during the song was Hearts player they have had for many years ... Ann is concidered one of the best female vocalists in rock ever and after 40+ years still has the chops ,her sister Nancy is one of the best rythem guitar players out there ,amazing band ,well worth the trip down their rabbit hole
Yeah, this was an awesome tribute. Like you, I kept replaying parts, especially when Ann started belting at the end adding, distortion, man, every hair on my body stood up.. I've heard Heart do Zep cover before and they were an great choice to do this. Great reaction BTW!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A tribute, (very, very well done), and in no way negates the original. Both takes are iconic. There was so much love in the theater at that moment. I can’t not smile every time I see it. (And I’ve seen it more than a few times. 😎) Cheers, Paul
This never gets old. Your reaction... 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Give Heart a listen. They are huge Zep fans and toured with Jason. Boller hat he wears was Bonzo's. Note the choir wearing them too. Heart ❤️❤️ songs try Barracuda, Magic Man, Straight On, Crazy On You, Alone, Dog & Butterfly, Never, These Dreams.....
Subscribed for your authenticity. Your reaction was thoughtful. You understood many of the mechanics of the song, its history and the production. You understand music and appreciate it. You didn’t react for reaction’s sake. You absorb your experience and incorporate it into your understanding of music. Delightful to witness someone with authenticity. Thank you. Side note: I have a feeling you are like this for all music, regardless of genre, even if you don’t care for a vibe or particular song. That is a testament of your character. ❤
Gotta give a hand to the lead guitarist...can you imagine playing this epic song in front of the man himself, Jimmy Page! I'd be so nervous! He did a great job but that choir OMG! that really raised it higher on the soul tingling chart!! Thanks for the reaction!
I cry every single time I watch this! I love how the song builds and then, just when you think it can’t get any more intense, the screen lifts to reveal the huge choir in back! When you can wow the band it’s an amazing performance! Great reaction!
I'M JUMPING UP AND DOWN, YOU ARE REACTING TO THIS....ANN WILSON WAS 63 YEARS OLD WHEN SHE PERFORMED THIS, AND SHE BLOWS IT OUT OF THE WATER!!! NANCY ON HER GUITAR WAS ALSO GREAT...THE CHOIR IS UNREAL!!! Jason Bonham, SON OF JOHN BONHAM, PLAYED DRUMS TO HONOR HIS FATHER, AND WORE A DERBY ALONG WITH THE BACKUP SINGERS LIKE HIS DAD USED TO....I'VE WATCHED THIS AT LEAST A 100 TIMES, STILL GIVES ME CHILLS EVERYTIME!!!!!!! YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS!!!!!! YOU MAKE ME SO HAPPY!!!! THE WAY YOU RESPOND TO OUR 60'S, & 70'S MUSIC, THEY JUST DON'T MAKE MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE!!!! HEART'S BIGGEST HIT WAS ALONE. OTHERS INCLUDE: THESE DREAMS, WHAT ABOUT LOVE, CRAZY ON YOU, AND MANY MORE..ENJOY!!!
'Heart' does a couple of Led Zeppelin songs. Ann & Nancy Wilson....2 sisters who grew up in Seattle. I first heard of them in the 70s. But you should check out 'Mistral Wind' live from Seattle. Not sure, but I believe it was from their hometown o the last night of the tour. I've seen them a couple of times over the years. Ann's the voice & Nancy plays the guitar....although they can both sing & play.
Led Zeppelin added the concert film of Celebration Day, the last time that Led Zeppelin played together live. It was Dec 10th, 2007 and the concert was at the O2 in London. Jimmy, John Paul Jones, Robert, and Jason played an Amazing Set !! This concert was one of the greatest events of the decade! You should check it out. I'm so glad That Zeppelin decided to release the full concert on their official UA-cam Channel! I own the boxed set of this concert, and I do watch it at least once a month !! Great review as always!
Great reaction ! Everyone on that stage realized this was their moment and oh the pressure but damn did they all step up and knock this one out of the park. What a grandiose performance of one of if not the most timeless song of all time. Wtg, you did it justice as well w your reaction
I just wrote a comment (or several lol) hoping he was reacting to the longer/uncut version, this is great too, but he missed so much! Please look into it, as this is worth another listen... or 100 lol ♥️✌
Heart is fantastic. Check out the official video for "Alone". They also do an acoustic version later on which is great, but I think you'd appreciate the original - especially if you want to see a woman playing guitar really rocking out. Ann's voice is incredible!!!! If you're going to listen to Led Zeppelin's version again, listen to the original studio version. It's different from the live version and more of a real comparison to the tribute version.
This was the induction ceremony of Led Zeppelin into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Quite a few outstanding musicians were similarly inducted for music they created under the Obama Administration. I think some of the other celebrities were honored for their accomplishments as well.
I might get hated on... but I've never seen a comment about the guitarist that KILLED IT right in front of Jimmy (God bless!) Looks SO much like Sheldon from BBT lmao... just me? Ok, the dispensary did it's job well! Carry on... 😍😂
Heart are the only band that don't need permission from Zep to their songs. Jimmy Page said they can do any of our songs . If you can try and listen to Heart doing more Zeppelin songs live, they do a brilliant job.
This was indeed edited. There was a 2nd cut to the Obamas that's missing & a few bits of music. I hope you watch an unedited version. Also, Jack Black introduced the whole Zeppelin segment of the show by narrating a package of clips showing & summing up Zeppelin's history. You really need to see that too, you'd enjoy it. Better yet, you should react to it, along with the other artists' performances in tribute to Zep. It's all terrific, worth watching & reacting to. And we'd be happy to watch along with you. Btw, I saw Zeppelin in concert 3 times. They & their music were a big part of my youth. I cried like a baby watching this when it aired. I have wonderful memories of friends & good times set to Zep's music. Wouldn't trade that for anything. 💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙
I've watched several reactions to this video--yours is by far the best. If you're looking for great songs by Heart... Highly recommend: Alone, These Dreams, What About Love, and I Want You So Bad.
Ann and Nancy idolized Led Zeppelin growing up. Led Zeppelin was being honored for their contributions to music. Can you imagine givneing this performance in front of the band that made the song. You should check out some of Heart's songs they have a long list of hits. Ann still sounds just as good today as she did in the 70's and 80's. Robert Plant was tearing up because he was thinking of his best friend John Bonham and seeing his son playing his drum kit.Plant says this is the beast cover of Stairway to Heaven he's heard. You must have listened to the live MSG version of Stairway you should know that Jimmy Page improvised most of that solo on the spot it's about 3 minutes longer than the studio version. Zeppelin never played a song the same 2 times in a row. They would have a Playlist of songs and they'd play them all but never the same. Their concerts were a 3-3 1/2 hour jam session.
The absolute best! Like others, I could watch this 1,000 times and still get chills. My wife and I recently saw Jason Bonham and his "Led Zeppelin Experience". So enjoyable for this LZ fan. And you definitely should get deeper into Heart. "Barracuda" and "Crazy on You" would be great places to start.
Another AMAZING cover is actually another Zeppelin song - When The Levee Breaks - Playing For Change. John Paul Jones actually plays bass on it, but musicians from around the world fill out the rest LIVE from all around the globe. You HAVE to check it out. FIRE cover!
Crazy On You..1977 Love on The Midnight Special Nancy on the acoustic intro will blow you away and Ann can flat out Sang Sang the girls were early 20's and the band...fasten your seatbelt🎸🎸
This was not just a tribute. Led Zeppelin was given a Kennedy Center Honors award (hence why the Obama's were there😉). Zeppelin was given this award acknowledging their exceptional contributions to American Culture and performing arts. It's a very prestigious honor. FUN FACT: in an interview later (on film), Robert was asked about his tears. He said that he was simply overwhelmed with emotion on so many levels. He went on to say that he was sitting there thinking "when we first started we were just a bunch of punks and rebels. I thought we'd always be rebels and outcasts" to which Jimmy and JPJ started laughing and shook their heads in agreement! lol!!!😂🤣😂 Anyway, Robert added that the choir, the way Ann sang his song, and everything just moved him... but when Jason came out and sat down at the drums (that was his father's drum set he was playing on!!) it sent him over the edge. Of note: Robert is Jason's godfather, and when Robert had called Jason to ask if he was going (months before this ceremony was to take place) Jason had told him that he wasn't given tickets (it's an "invite only event).... Jason had fibbed to Robert. He wanted it to be a surprise to the guys! So needless to say... they were absolutely surprised, and Robert was deeply moved!!!😊 Additional FUN FACT: Ann and Nancy have been performing Led Zeppelin songs at their live shows since the beginning of their career in the 70's. LZ has always been their idols. But even more than that... having Heart perform STW was no coincidence. It's been a well-known fact for decades that Robert adores Heart, their music and the sisters. He has stated many time that Ann and Nancy are the only people he personally approves of performing Zep's songs!!! That's why Ann and Nancy were chosen to perform Zep's pinnacle song. The ladies closed out the ceremony. Their performance on this night was a case of Rock legends honoring Rock GODS!!!!👊 Since you noticed Lenny Kravitz (I was surprised u knew who he was! Kudos on that!!👏👏👏)... I HIGHLY recommend you check out his performance of "Whole Lotta Love" from this ceremony! Lenny KILLED it in his own special way!!! Not saying u need to do a reaction to it (but that would be fun! lol!!😜). Either way, check it out! It's a fun one!! Peace and light...💞
This was Kennedy Center Honors. I lived in DC during this time, but didnt know this show was going on at the time, so angry I missed it. I have always Loved Ann Wilson, she is the only one who could have done this. She is incredible. Love Zepplin's reactions to the whole show! Have seen Robert perform 3 times, and he's still amazing.
I feel like they did a great job owning this and still keeping it true to the original. As a tribute should. The band never cared for any covers of his song. They said they loved this and by far the best cover they ever heard.
As a 63 year old Led Zep nut....from England......it’s great to see young guy’s like your self....still loving the masterpieces....that they are......well done son.....
Great job, young man! Many reactors miss the fact that Led Zep guys were sitting with David Letterman - next to President Obama and the First Lady. I guess it is a point in the song where you’re all looking away shaking your heads. I was smiling to myself as you talked early about the orchestra and background singers. I was thinking he’s really going to lose it when he sees the full choir with their hats. :) I’m 63 years old and kind of over the original version of this song; just heard it too many times. Great song though it is. For me, this performance breathed new life and energy into it. I never tire of watching it with people who have not seen it before, whether in person or on YT. Funny thing about it is when I was a kid Heart was derisively referred to as “The Female Led Zeppelin” but it wasn’t a compliment. I hope they never heard that remark in the tone I heard it years ago. Either way, the showed the world with this one! Thank you for an excellent reaction video.
Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful voices in Rock, and there are so many greats in the audience, The Kennedy center honors 2012 on a side note the guy playing the acoustic guitar is Kyle Gass one half of the group tenacious d with Jack Black ✌️
Great reaction. That song deserves everything and more. It is the number 1 rock song ever byt he number 1 band ever. Thanks for doing this. Jason was playing his fathers drum kit and the large choir all wore Bohnam hat in tribute. Robert had tears in his eyes. A great tribute. Go to the full version and listen to Jack Blacks intro.
Good to see that you, at least, knew who the members of Led Zeppelin are. Some people with reactions to this video don't even know that those are the three surviving members of Led Zeppelin in the balcony.
Love Heart, been great since their start. Don't know if someone has made the comment. I've heard that "Heart" has preformed "Stairway to Heaven" live in their shows since 1978.
Loved this reaction... I have yet to get thru this performance without getting choked up! Ann's power and voice control are damn near inhuman!😆 Great reaction!💯🌹
Rock goddesses Heart and Jason B knocked it out if the park with all they did and how they added those layers. Heart & Led Zephave a special relationship with this song.
Anne n Heart have long been great Zeppelin fans n interpreters! I heard them back in the 70s during the Barracuda days and their encore was a blistering version of Zep’s ROCK AND ROLL! Listen to Zeppelin do it live from Madison Square Garden n then listen to Anne do it
This is absolutely the best reaction video I have seen for this performance that I've seen so far, and I've seen many because this is one of my most favorite live performances ever. Great job!
Amazing reaction! Exactly how I felt the first time watching. Ann and Nancy are amazing. I have followed them since high school in the 70's and live in the same city as they do. This was my favorite high school song in the 70's!
What an incredible performance. They stayed so close to the original studio version. There was some weird editing in the version you found, and the audio in this version was off as well. You may want to watch it again from a different UA-cam channel.
Led Zeppelin weren't inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that day, the Kennedy Center Honors were inducted to have given the chance to have the presence of Led Zeppelin.
Robert did not know Jason was going to be there, he had asked Jason to come but Jason said he had a gig that night. That is why he is near tears. Not only was Jason wearing his father's bowler hat, but he was also playing on his dad's drum kit.
That is what brought tears to my eyes!

❤❤❤ all I can say!
Robert is also Jason's Godfather! 🥁

He looks about 30 ish here !!!!
@@ellenbacklin Did Mathes create the arrangements for this Stairway performance?
@@markdecker6190 more than likely. He does alot of the arrangements for this program
Anne did a fantastic job with this one. She was 62 when this one came out and she was as good as she was in her 20s. Great reaction.

I have watched this so many times and I have the same reaction each time, just goosebumps. The whole show is amazing with the orchestra, the backup singers, and the choir.
Absolutely! I will see a new reaction, amd promise myself THIS is the time I won't tear up or cry... WRONG!😉😂 It is pure magic!♥️
Absolutely agree.
Absolutely the best reaction I've seen to this great tribute. I personally don't think any other people could have pull this off so well. This was the induction ceremony of Led Zeppelin into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Quite a few outstanding musicians were similarly inducted for music they created under the Obama Administration. I think some of the other celebrities were honored for their accomplishments as well.
The Wilson sisters have said they are huge LZ fans. Heart has covered a number of their songs.
Ann just shredded that last verse
Watching you getting your mind blown is priceless. This is the greatest tribute to an iconic group.
One word for this tribute… epic. The best tribute I have ever heard. Heart killed it!
I might get hated on... but I've never seen a comment about the guitarist that KILLED IT right in front of Jimmy (God bless!) Looks SO much like Sheldon from BBT lmao... just me? Ok, the dispensary did it's job well! Carry on... 😍😂
Dammit....I'm in.
Wonderful performance! Zeppelin cried!!
Ann’s voice is the the one they use as a standard of excellence for comparison, not the other way around.
You are by far becoming one of my favourite reactors. You really enjoy and appriciate and research your vids. This is such an epic tribute!!!
Thank you Claire!
If this song doesn't make you tear up, there's something wrong. Absolutely beautiful.
Any song by Heart is off the chain. You really need to go that rabbit hole.
That was a great performance and tribute
FIRE cover!
EPIC cover from an EPIC band. 💯
So needless to say... they were absolutely surprised, and Robert was deeply moved!!!😊
Additional FUN FACT: Ann and Nancy have been performing Led Zeppelin songs at their live shows since the beginning of their career in the 70's. Their performance on this night was a case of Rock legends honoring Rock GODS!!!!👊
Since you noticed Lenny Kravitz (I was surprised u knew who he was!
Checkout the live performance of Kashmir from 2007 with Jason sitting in with them. You’ll really see his talent shine in that one!!
I watched the night the Kennedy Center honored Led Zeppelin. 2 words! Mind Blown!
Like having a favorite child. You can't pick one.
OMG...So glad you found this...I GUARANTEE you will not be dusappointed!!!!
Can you imagine being on that stage playing Led Zeppelin's signature song in front of the masters? How did they do that?!!!!!
Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful voices in Rock, and there are so many greats in the audience, The Kennedy center honors 2012 on a side note the guy playing the acoustic guitar is Kyle Gass one half of the group tenacious d with Jack Black ✌️
My guitar teacher has been playing with Ann the last two years. She still has it and is supposedly a great lady!
Incredible performance to a legendary classic!!!!!!
Ann 62 at the time was amazing. I can't even count how many times I've watched this video over the past ten years. I still get goosebumps.
You are the only reactor that heard Ann sing "to be a rock and no to roll" correctly. Over and over again.
No matter how many times I see this I always start to cry when Jason looks upward as Ann sings “to heaven…”
Anne n Heart have long been great Zeppelin fans n interpreters!
I heard them back in the 70s during the Barracuda days and their encore was a blistering version of Zep’s ROCK AND ROLL!
Listen to Zeppelin do it live from Madison Square Garden n then listen to Anne do it
The choir all wearing John Bonham's signature bollar hat got them
This is absolutely the best reaction video I have seen for this performance that I've seen so far, and I've seen many because this is one of my most favorite live performances ever. Great job!
I watch this everytime it pops up. Simply amazing!
Amazing reaction! Exactly how I felt the first time watching. Ann and Nancy are amazing. I have followed them since high school in the 70's and live in the same city as they do. This was my favorite high school song in the 70's!
Phenomenal 👏🏻 a spiritual awakening i cry every time 🙏🏻
What an incredible performance. They stayed so close to the original studio version. There was some weird editing in the version you found, and the audio in this version was off as well. You may want to watch it again from a different UA-cam channel.
This was the edited for TV version. There is a full version that is about a minute longer.
A couple verses were left out for time constraints...
I never get tired of this tribute! So amazing!
Led Zeppelin weren't inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that day, the Kennedy Center Honors were inducted to have given the chance to have the presence of Led Zeppelin.
Imagine performing a Led Zeppelin tune in such a kick-ass manner that the guys from Zeppelin give you a standing ovation and Robert Plant tears up.
