    Excellent and very informative video. Being a CP soap maker for well over 15 years, I’ve recently ventured into the soap world of formulating my own MP base. Soaping is a science, but also tons of fun. Love your videos Karen. ❤️

      @@sl4983 When your mixing the lye and oils there is not lye fumes. However, when you add water to the lye there is fumes.
      To solve that just get some polypropylene bottles with tops. Than all you have to do is just shake the bottle to mix and there are won't be any fumes. Just be sure and wear some heat mittens as it will get about 200 degrees.

    I love your videos. You share equal time with melt and pour and cold process. I wanted to try cold process soaping, but my house is very old, and it isn't suitable for the the process. I can't ensure a controlled temperature. But melt and pour was alot of fun to try. I made some small blue bars with little pink and blue rubber duckies in them, they were for my daughter's friends baby shower. Really cute. Lol. Thanks so much for the video as always! I made my own glycerin soap for years, only recently have I started buying a base to try. As you mentioned there are so many great choices. Do you ever add additional oils, for example coco butter or avocado if so what percentage do you recommend? My homemade I could add 8% but every time I’ve tried with base it has leached or not set well. Thanks again!! 💚 From USA

    • @montanahammond7218
      @montanahammond7218 3 роки тому +2

      Adding oils and butters to melt and pour really does nothing as the base is already made. So the oils and butters are only suspended into to soap. Also be careful adding salts of any kind!! It will make melt and pour sweat really bad. Also your fragrance choices are crucial due to most will not fully integrate with the melt and pour it simply gets suspended into the soap base and the fragrance oil will just sweat out. If you want something more than basic white and clear. There are many options as three butter melt and pour. Aloevera and olive soap base. Shea Butter melt and pour. Donkey milk melt and pour. Goat milk melt and pour. Honey base melt and pour. Oatmeal melt and pour. So on and so forth. Also mica powders do not color the white melt and pour very well. And the clear melt and pours melt very liquid vs the white melt and pours. Hope this helps

    Hey there, thank you for the great video. I'm a newbie and I'm wondering, is there any way to do a mica line with mp? I'm afraid it won't stick to the skin, but if I do it too soon, won't it just sink in? What if I sprayed with alcohol and then sifted mica over the alcohol? Would it just melt into the next layer I pour? Help!!! If it's possible, could you maybe demonstrate? ✌🙋‍♀️🌿🐦

    • @montanahammond7218
      @montanahammond7218 3 роки тому

      Let the first layer dry almost completely. Then spirits with alcohol as its a good binder for the soaps surface. Then dust your mica over the top. Let that dry and lightly dust the extra off and then pour your second layer. Hope that helps

      A easy way to make your cheaper melt and pours harder and not like a jelly soap is to take your melt and pour soap base out of its wrapping or container for a week and let it dry. Then when melting melt little bits at a time such as 4 to 5 cups at a time. As soon as its poured put the molds right in front of a box fan and let set for 2 hours. You then will end up with a more solid no gummy and no sweat bar of soap. Hope this helps

    I don't understand how you're able to do all of this without a film forming or it starting to solidify. I use the same soap and it doesn't seem to stay melted very long at all it almost immediately starts getting a film on top before I can even mix in colors and smell. How do you do it?! Please help nothing ive done has worked really. The microwave for me is a complete fail and the crock pot I have some luck with. How you keep it melted long enough to work with?! Thank you so so much for the video

    • @Eusong
      @Eusong 2 роки тому +1

      I use a low power setting on my microwave and do it for about a minute at a time. Once it's melted enough that there's no chunks, an extra 30 seconds on a slightly higher power level usually keeps it hot enough to add stuff to without burning it. If it starts to solidify while I'm adding things in, I just pop it back in for a little longer. The film on top seems to be a side effect of milk bases from my experience and the only way to deal with it is to scoop it out before pouring into the molds.

    1. Is this necessary to disperse TD & micas into water? In your opinion, water must be warm & how much TD can be made for 500 GM's base?
    2. If dispersed colours into water mixed into base, does it give glycerine rivers after cutting? I live in humid area.

      There is lye used when melt and pour is created during the manufacturing process. Just like with CP, we don't add lye on the ingredient listing, but doesn't mean it wasn't used. Tons of articles in the online.
