I'll never understand why so many people don't like the Karate Kid part 2. I thought it was the best one. You find out about Mr. Miyagi's past and the ending isn't just some pointless tournament. They are fighting for something real... plus all the cool scenery in Japan.
I love the second one too. But the Tournament isn't 'pointless'. It was a symbol to show Danny's progression and to earn the respect of the kids bullying him, so they'd stop attacking him. For Danny, the Tournament was both his way of proving to himself that he could stand up to them and take away their ability to taunt him, while also showing his respect for Mr.Miyagi, as he was representing Mr.Miyagi's name.
The ice block strength meter only goes up to the same level where your health is at the time you go in the door. If you have a full health meter you can break all the blocks. If you have half life, you can only break some of the blocks, even if you time it perfectly.
It wasn't a lion, it was Sato -- the old man who was the movie's bad guy who turned good in the end. There was a scene where he was trapped under a large piece of wood in the hurricane, and Daniel rescues him. That's what it was supposed to look like.
The swinging blade in this game was like landing on the carrier in Top Gun. Some folks can just do it, and nobody who can can explain how they're doing it.
I remember you could cheat the game by keeping 2 enemies onscreen but far behind you so that they weren't a threat. The game only allowed 2 enemies onscreen at once so you could walk through the stage without worrying about other enemies. Quite easy once you know that lol.
The enemies turn you into a pinball in this game. The Karate Kid was a game that I rented, but it was frustrating to play because I was constantly being pushed back.
For the final boss, the girl was retreating from the Boss that you kept knocking her way. Gotta keep the boss away from her to keep her from retreating off the edge.
For the ice block challenge, your power is based on how much life you have. You have to have near full life to successfully break all the blocks. You can see this in how the life meter swells with Daniel-san's inhalation.
CHEAP TRICK HINT: On the last stage, try to get 2 guys to spawn from the left side of the screen. Then Nintendo can't spawn any more adds so you can just run ahead of them clear through the whole stage.
thank you for posting videos like this and AVGN as often as you all do. always looking forward to more videos every week, wouldn't mind putting in a few bucks here and there to keep the great shows going. 🙏👻 One game i saw the other day that reminded me of back in the day was Chex Quest, the boxed cereal's own version of DOOM. it'd be great to see some old school PC games get reviewed. 🤓
I hadnt played this back in the day and at a friends house one day a few yrs back was on some natural ninja shit with the fly catchin thing. just fly after fly while laughing
I played this in the weird window before I realized the there were bad games. It's hard to put myself in the head space for it now. It's like I didn't quite realize that people MADE games. I took them all at face value. And as such, I actually really liked this game. I played it at a friend's house and it filled my thoughts for a while until I could play it again.
It doesn't seem like a terrible game, it has that NES cheap-ness at times, though it's made during a time where developers with movie tie-ins often have to rush to get product out.
It's Sato! When he's caught under the house in the storm. Great game that has all the scenes and characters of the movie in it, many movie games failed miserably at this but as a kid it was magical to see in Karate Kid.
@@gurvmlk had this game, figured it out as a kid he didn’t seem to catch on the the system, every 3 punches they throw a power shot, it’s a 1,2,3…4 boxing game, depending on the character you picked was the skill level, only two player could be appollo drago and creed, it was a great game with a lot of limits
Yes, we recorded this using my AVS. In addition to that, I've made the upgrade to RGB on most of my other consoles so the gameplay will look better in the future. (At least when recorded at my house) Thanks for watching! -Mike
Mike in the part where you guys keep falling in the typhoon stage it looks like you can take the high road which should be a bit safer. In one section it looks like there are even "steps" in the middle you can jump up to get back up. They look like the pole at the end of the level with the girl on top. Otherwise you face cheap knockback deaths.
I love the third movie. The villain is the best. It's like the producers were like "what if the main character went up against the joker?" It's hilarious. No, It's "Perfect".
Falling into pits, instant-death water, bullshit enemy spawns, and unrealistic expectations of reaction times are what made NES games a challenge. You kids nowadays have no concept of difficulty with all of your FAIR games. LOL.
What's everyone's favorite karate kid movie quotes? mine are: 1) sweep the leg 2) get him a body bag 3) wax on wax off 4) i hate this school 5) Daniel Larusso is gonna fight!
Alright, that end screen confuses me. Normally, since you're controlling Daniel, it would make sense to say that you _are_ Daniel. But instead, Mr. Miyagi says that you _guided_ Daniel. But... in the movie, Mr. Miyagi _is_ the one who guides him. So who the hell are you?
I never did like renting this game as a kid, and would avoid it even if there was only something like Tetris, or Yo Noid left sitting on the shelf of my local mom and pop rental store.
the crane kick and drum punch are pressure sensitive, meaning you have to press the corresponding buttons harder. If you just tap them, you do normal attacks. also, the secret health pickups (other characters that you run into) only appear if you're low on health.
You're the best, arouuund! Nothing's gonna ever keep you down!

Roxie ღ
I enjoy the dirt two and own them. I stop right there.
Mike was the kind of kid to come spend the night at your house and steal your Nintendo games
Then help you look for it.
I can see that.
Thanks for 10 years of excellent content guys.
I would love to see Ralph Macchio and William Zabka playing this game together lol

"And that's what The Nerd complains about."
LOL.

Right on. Thanks for the clarification. It's been decades since I've seen that movie.
The Internet Peasant Sapo?
@Cinemassacre 5:59 that's Miyagi's friend/rival, Sato. Remember Miyagi had to break the beam in order to save him?
brasmussen81 Yep
That death where Daniel flies 10 foot backward into the death pit - even I shouted "that's fuckin' bullshit"
The swinging blade in this game was like landing on the carrier in Top Gun. Some folks can just do it, and nobody who can can explain how they're doing it.
This game will always have a special place in my nostalgia goggles.
at 5:54 I think it's Sato... when he gets caught in the storm.
The "lion" is actually Sato from the movie when he was trapped under a beam.
awesome!
lol the enemies just sink slowly into hell
Games like this are why I saved up money to buy a Game Genie as a kid.
they are high on marijauana i tink
i think eveyone should be
I remember you could cheat the game by keeping 2 enemies onscreen but far behind you so that they weren't a threat. The game only allowed 2 enemies onscreen at once so you could walk through the stage without worrying about other enemies. Quite easy once you know that lol.
You could also just stand in one spot and grind for points to get extra lives and then just crush the game with ease after that.
Those pits seem to have a gravitational pull all their own to ensure that no matter what you fall into them.
The flashes of lighting in the rain stage looks genuinely cool.
those baby blues really are piercing...almost hypnotic
You guys play a lot of Contra style games.. Have you ever played Guerrilla War on NES? It was my favorite game when I was a kid.
00:21 I like how perfectly Mike's name fits in the four little white squares at the beginning of the match.
The dude in the hurricane stage was Miyagi’s friend.
Friend turned enemy turned friend once again, Sato.
dreamlandnightmare Aye
The enemies turn you into a pinball in this game. The Karate Kid was a game that I rented, but it was frustrating to play because I was constantly being pushed back.
I used to love this game. Never owned it, but I rented it multiple times and eventually beat it.
For the final boss, the girl was retreating from the Boss that you kept knocking her way. Gotta keep the boss away from her to keep her from retreating off the edge.
I remember the first time i saw the avgn episode of this. I laughed myself into a light coma!
Cause you're the BEST AROUND!!
"Look at these guys coming and coming."
This is like a poor mans version of double dragon.
I thought it was a karate champ knockoff
i'd think streets of rage (although I love the series) is a poor man's double dragon
I thought double dragon 3 was the poor man's double dragon.
I'd say it's the poor man's version of Pinball.
Poor Man's version of Pong
I was struck with nostalgia. I forgot I've played this game.
11:37 Mike nearly rage quits
This game its kind of like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, because everything hates you and wants to fucking hit you and kill you
Mike has the craziest joker laugh 😂
Fave part is when that bird knocks you 15 feet back into the water and you just laugh. You know how tough this game is. Thanks for the video!
I remember having a hard time with this one back in the day lol; never got anywhere near this far.
Loved playing this game as a kid :))
Remember the Karate Kid game I could never beat it as a kid
Mike's laugh is the best. :D
Helgali He laughs like a hyena when he laughs hard
Could be. :D Either way is f-ing adorable. I appreciate his sense of humor.
The girl was going back cuz u kept punching people into her knocking her back
I haven't cried since the last time I watched Karate Kid 3
Wow memories!! Love this game. I just got the NES classic, it's awesome playing these games! Most modern have lost that fun element
🎶 Like a knight in shining armor, from a long time ago🎶
You guys need to do Rygar. Please!!
I second that.
Did you guys ever watch a game show called "Video Power."
many nights of frustration playing this game as a kid
that was sato, not a lion.
I remember the frustration playing this as a kid. I always felt like I was playing pinball, the way the enemies rag doll you in this game.
"Tryin' to help me now man!?"
Great video Mike!
this brings back so many memories
can wait for the shit-mas specails :D

I always enjoyed this game.
I've asked before but " way of the warrior" for the 3do is awesome and brutal.....would be a great video.
That is not a LION that was Sato.
I liked this gamee, too, when I was a kid. It want until I tried to replay it as an adult that I was like, "How the hell did I ever beat this game?"
Love the super sharp pixels coming from the AVS console. Hope AVGN start using it for next videos

I love Mike & Booty
SkyHazel swiggity swooty i am coming for the booty
I hadnt played this back in the day and at a friends house one day a few yrs back was on some natural ninja shit with the fly catchin thing. just fly after fly while laughing
Little nemo dream master please! Love that game!
One of the Best NES games. Back when Capcom had a lot of great games.
I think the girl at the end was falling off fast because you were punching bad guys into her. They pushed her!
11:38 Homer, is that you?
LOL! You thought THAT was a LION? BWHAHAHAHA! That's almost as bad as Mike thinking there was a Windows 92 ha ha ha ha. Oh you guys crack me up.
lol good video. I'm glad my playthrough went smoother lol
I am going to buy this game.
NEEDS MORE ANGRY NERD
The lion/man is Sato from the second movie
You guys need to try Bayou Billy for the NES.
Part of this reminds me of Rambo on the NES.
I've never had a problem beating this as a kid.
Same, but to this day I've never beaten Super Mario Bros. I'm so ashamed.
It doesn't seem like a terrible game, it has that NES cheap-ness at times, though it's made during a time where developers with movie tie-ins often have to rush to get product out.
It's definitely one of the better movie games for NES. There weren't many good ones.
No rush here. This came out more than a year after the movie release.
That was a lion.
It's Sato! When he's caught under the house in the storm. Great game that has all the scenes and characters of the movie in it, many movie games failed miserably at this but as a kid it was magical to see in Karate Kid.
I liked this game.
Anyone know when we will see new Board James episodes?
Marius VanDamme hopefully soon.
No mercy!
Please play Rocky on master system

"insert a joke about Mike's enormous slong"

Was this captured while playing through the AVS? It looks great!

+Cinemassacre this game is like kung fu
2:27. Mike said "not great not terrible" before it was trendy.

Nox-Hardigan Not Big enough

You guys should play Neutopia for TG-16!
Please play RUSH N ATTACK for the NES!
Such fond memories with that game on the play choice 10 when I was 7 years old at a local pizza place.
Lol we always called i Russian Attack lol
You guys should play the famicom version of Demon Sword!
*Bastard tried to sweep kick me*
What's everyone's favorite karate kid movie quotes?
mine are:
1) sweep the leg
2) get him a body bag
3) wax on wax off
4) i hate this school
5) Daniel Larusso is gonna fight!
After kicking Silva's ass, Miyagi mocks--
"Waaaaah! Waaaaah! Waaah..."
Thanks guys I'll pick up a copy anyway just for the laughs. :)
I've beaten this one time recently

Miyagi breaking the 4th wall.
It could be a lot of things but one possibility is Translation issues.
Mike fell down the hole.

hmm it's been many years since I've played karate kid but that's how I remember it. I'll have to test it out again.
