Luke James Agreed! As a kid at the rental store I would choose the game with the most fun and exciting case artwork. I also did the same thing with movies and albums. - I was disappointed so many times.
lol yea it was back in the day i remember 5 rentals 5 nights i wish they couldof let you rent 5 video games lol or me going to the rental stores alot were good rent before you buy of corse we went therealot anyways it ruins week ends back then cause it like a tape that was garbage you just wanna give back lol
Yeah you'd be surprised by what some well-known developers made in the past. ----- Oh shit yeah, no Bethesda didn't make this. It was Home Alone I was thinking of. My point still stands though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Alone_(video_game) ------ Or maybe they did.......blarg.
My favorite parts in the books is when you look in the back of the book for the bonus challenges and they would include "Naked Man" or "Naked Woman". Little kids were like, holy crap! Forget finding Waldo, want to find that crud for myself! And then they find out that it wouldn't be a kids book if it wasn't censored.
I'd just like to take this opportunity to let everyone know that I have the illustrious world record for this game on my channel. Where's Waldo speedrun in 2:03.63. Yes, I live a sad sad life.
when I was younger I had so many Where's Wally books ! they were huge, definitely bigger than your average book / comic. spent hours and hours with them !
There was a Where's Waldo cartoon as well. In between the show and the commercials, they would show a typical Where's Waldo scene. Success was dependant on the size of your screen.
i do not know why in the US he is called waldo but where this book came from the UK we call him wally is it because the bad guy "odlaw" (waldo spelt backwards)is that where you yanks got the name from? does anyone remember the cartoon of wheres wally /waldo?
There was a Finnish artist in the 90s called Waldo. While he probably never was famous internationally, he was well known here in Finland. You can find hs music on Spotify, as well as the group he later formed called "Waldo's people".
Where's Wally was an English illustration. Technically it's Wally, not Waldo... Don't even know why they changed the name in the states.. Waldo just makes him sound a bit... simple. The books were huge here for children. All we got were the big A4 sized books(Think they were actually much bigger). Used to love those books as a kid. It was actually really damn hard to find him at later pages plus there was different themes and a few things going on, setting the scene which made it feel fresh and there were challenges like finding an amount of ticket stubs in the level or other similar looking characters. Great for kids! Wouldn't be surprised if it was still entertaining for younger children.
His name got changed for every region the book was released in. He's Charlie in France. I guess the reason was to make it more suited for the region. Not that there are lots of Wallys in the UK (or probably that many Waldos in the US).
I think the name change in the U.S. worked out well, since Waldo is a much less commonly heard-of name than Wally; so now when people do think of the name Waldo, they'll instantly think of "Where's Waldo?" (much like how people instantly think of Nintendo's mascot Mario when thinking of the name Mario, or Homer Simpson when thinking of the name Homer)
Man this brings me back to the time seeing EricManSuper's review of the game, which I would honestly suggest you guys check out! He was inspired by the ANN back when he called himself that. :p
I rented this game as a kid on SNES along with Super Caesar's Palace. Needless to say, I beat this game in 1 hour then spent the rest of my time playing Super Caesar's Palace. As an adult, I never bought Where's Waldo?, but I do own Super Caesar's Palace.
I'd have thrown my controller at the TV in frustration. I'm surprised the ending didn't have a Nerd cameo appearance and he destroys the cart... or at least a proxy cart like he says in the FAQ.
Great stuff guys. Just to let you know that there is a Where's Waldo game on iOS and Android and it is very good indeed with fantastic music that sticks with you.
I know this will sound crazy , but the dark cave you have to find Waldo in reminds me of the cave in Star Trek {2009} where future Spock meets young Kirk ,and Spock mind melds with him .
I rented this game back in the day. Maybe now I could beat it with my RGB NES but back then the graphics were so fuzzy there was no way to every find Waldo.
Why was his name changed to Waldo, just wondering? It was originally Wally in England/UK Curiously enough, the name of the evil counterpart (in the cartoon) only works as a pun in the US. In the UK the cartoon was called Where's Wally but they left the villain's name as it was in America :s
I remember renting this game one weekend and being stuck with it. Renting an awful game was a complete weekend-ruiner back in the day!

Great Waldo search for Snes is even worse. Worsest game I ever had.
new game title "Where's the guy that kinda looks like Waldo"
Reminder that this game was made by Bethesda, the same people who made Fallout and Skyrim.
Just putting that out there.
Lol
Yeah you'd be surprised by what some well-known developers made in the past.

No it's not.
It wasn't made by Bethesda!
It was RELEASED by them and THQ but the game was made by a guy named Craig Jakubowski!
"That's the wizard, you gotta watch out for him." "Yeah" XD

The music is quite nice.
It's catchy
8:45 "High definition screens bring you all the details" 💀💀💀
yes..... very true,,,,,,,
ur, right
I'd just like to take this opportunity to let everyone know that I have the illustrious world record for this game on my channel. Where's Waldo speedrun in 2:03.63. Yes, I live a sad sad life.
I pity and am impressed by you.
after looking at you avatar I didn't even need to read your comment to know you had a sad life; speedrunning is just the icing on the cake
+DrilRemover You must be a blast a parties.
+MagitekIsMurder he is
Proof? I literally just checked and couldn't find a single video of that time lol.
1:20 "You can get this empty box that probably did nothing."
Surprised they didn't see the timer go up by a minute.
The empty box didn't do anything. The box with the hourglass added time.
>100 seconds
>a minute
If you're unlucky you will actually lose time when you pick up the hourglass. It's a real gamble.
sora8711 oops.
It actually is one minute, the timer goes in MM:SS rather than seconds only.
There are many famous Waldos..... they've just not been found yet.
We've seen every color of Waldo, I think that last one was teal... Tealdo.
Beck and Ween could never be if it weren't for Nilsson. RIP.
Me being colorblind it would be nearly impossible to beat this game.
hell with how shitty the game is it might help
Iván Gerardo Casas Torres Well, this could very well be "the unofficial colorblindness test" ;)
Izak80 lol
They kept changing the colours on Wally anyway, so I think you would be alright.
I think my ability to see colors actually impedes me in this game.
In spanish it was called Wally too, at least that's how we got it on south america. Even the cartoon was dubbed as Wally
The best part of the Where's Wally books was what was going on in the area. So many fun things you could see happening or just about to happen.
I think Waldo could be my Dad can't find him anywhere...
Did you look in your mom?
did you look in the closet? He's probably secretly wearing bras and high heels.
Nope, I'm right here
Stop commenting on everyone's comments looking for likes as 'Waldo'. No one gives a fuck.
+Justin sawchuk Yes he is
ZA WALDO!!!
You know, it's funny because Waldo actually makes a cameo in Jojo when Dio is running over all the people with the limoussine.
wryyyyyyyyyyyy~
+starshkr46 Please tell me that's true.
NovaCrackers It is. At least in the manga. I wasn't paying enough attention during the David's anime.
Came here for this comment... WRYYYYYYYYYYYY!
CBT Wizard
I'll always remember him as Wally
What's his inverse's name to you?
It's Odlaw for us.
those Where's Waldo books back in the lat 80's early 90's were huge, I remember kids always having them at school
when I was younger I had so many Where's Wally books ! they were huge, definitely bigger than your average book / comic. spent hours and hours with them !

Oh hey ProtonJon just played this game on his stream last night.
That's so crazy! This is the most nostalgic game for me on the NES. Strange that you guys are the same.
I used to watch the "Where's Waldo?" cartoon back in the day. Does anyone remember it?
I tried, but I just couldn't find it.
Never seen that back in the days but it sure is a great entertainment. I'm watching it as I'm pouring mustard on my hot dog
It has the funkiest intro.
the 70's didn't know how to funk until this show came out
I used to watch Where's Waldo? and Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? all the time back in the day.
i do not know why in the US he is called waldo but where this book came from the UK we call him wally is it because the bad guy "odlaw" (waldo spelt backwards)is that where you yanks got the name from? does anyone remember the cartoon of wheres wally /waldo?
It's called different names in different languages.
Got this game for Christmas after it came out, good memories.
....hasn't aged well though
I remember renting this as a child. That was a long weekend...
I love that literally everyone is fascinated by how odd this game is.
I had a tooth pulled at the dentist this morning and this video has brightened my day! Keep up the great work!!!!
I had the Where's Waldo poster book. They were large poster size and the prints looked very good.
Can't believe I missed this upload, well atleast now I have something to watch at 2:30 AM

That statement about the kid's naivety....freaking awesome! :-D
Anyone remember that one book where Waldo was in between a epic battle? When I was a kid, I wanted that image painted on my wall.
Where's Wally was an English illustration. Technically it's Wally, not Waldo... Don't even know why they changed the name in the states.. Waldo just makes him sound a bit... simple.

Americans had a few notable wally's at the time... wally world wally backman and....that's it
His name got changed for every region the book was released in. He's Charlie in France. I guess the reason was to make it more suited for the region. Not that there are lots of Wallys in the UK (or probably that many Waldos in the US).
are you saying that Wally wouldn't make him sound a bit simple either?
Wally can also describe a foolish person in the UK.

Waldo must have been high as a kite to be all over the world like that.
ive got all the books, still love them to this day
Everybody's talking at me
I don't hear a word they're saying
Only the echoes of my mind
Harry Nilsson
This brings back memories :)
How the fuck are you even seeing him? I didn't see him once in this.
Famous Waldos? There was voice actress Janet Waldo, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
the music when you find waldo is the same one as wayne gretscky hockey nes
The original character name is Wally. He was created by a britsh guy. Here in Brazil he is called Wally too.
Man this brings me back to the time seeing EricManSuper's review of the game, which I would honestly suggest you guys check out! He was inspired by the ANN back when he called himself that. :p
The tune has a small hint of "When I'm Sixty-Four" from the Beatles
Mike and Boosty are the reason I get up in the morning.
Get up?
I rented this game as a kid on SNES along with Super Caesar's Palace. Needless to say, I beat this game in 1 hour then spent the rest of my time playing Super Caesar's Palace. As an adult, I never bought Where's Waldo?, but I do own Super Caesar's Palace.

I'm surprised the ending didn't have a Nerd cameo appearance and he destroys the cart... or at least a proxy cart like he says in the FAQ.
In Australia he was called Wally up until around 1995. Then the Americanization started to take hold of Australia.
In Britain we call it where's wally
The time icon is a hazard on Hard - it earns you time or takes it.
Great stuff guys. Just to let you know that there is a Where's Waldo game on iOS and Android and it is very good indeed with fantastic music that sticks with you.
I wish they would hack this or the snes version and add the the scary prank mode. That would be fun!
"He could be, fucking, anything right now. Any shape. Any size. Takes any form."
COMING THIS SUMMER
WALDO
Imagine if someone made a ROM hack combining Where's Waldo & Bill and Ted. Now that would be truly horrible.

Another lesser known Waldo would be the Yellow Ninja Storm Power Ranger.
And in french here in Canada it is called "Où est Charlie?"
I know this will sound crazy , but the dark cave you have to find Waldo in reminds me of the cave in Star Trek {2009} where future Spock meets young Kirk ,and Spock mind melds with him .

Why was his name changed to Waldo, just wondering? It was originally Wally in England/UK

There is one good thing about this game, the title theme.
In Brazil he is also wally
There used to be a Saturday morning cartoon of Where's Waldo? I can't believe you guys forgot to mention that.
Anyone else pause the screens before them to find Waldo on your own?
looks good. I like the random level generation, although there may be some palette issues to deal with.
Is it Wally or Waldo? We will never know...
Wally originated in England so Waldo is the localisation
"I'd rather stare at the fucking wall" lmao
Someone make a 16-bit version with SNES Mouse support.
Waldo Von Erich, the pro wrestler.
I wonder what the speed run record is.
How the hell they were able to find him at all on those stages. O_x
I think Mr. Magoo's nephew is named Waldo. Can't think of any others.
Wonder if they watched the Where's Waldo cartoon with the catchy theme song?
