I have always loved the graphics of some of these older NES releases, their simplicity adds something to their atmosphere that more graphically advanced games were missing.
I remember playing it as a kid, and only way to get some of the games was in a giveaway like Super Mario which is saved on a GC memory card that comes with the game.
This is still one of my all time favorite games. Loved it from the time it came out and still play it every now and again, to this day. It's just so Zen and relaxing. And the music is great, too.
The reason you have 2 balloons in balloon trip is it's actually easier to steer and stuff with 2. When 1 pops, it gets way harder to control where you go.
Oh man this was one of my favorite games on my 256in1 cart, wich was pretty much the only cart i had late 80s early 90s (besides mario3) also Ice climber was hilarious with friends, man i miss those days whenever you screwed up you just threw the controller at the tv, man it was fun when controllers could handle a beating
Trivia: the calculations that Iwata made for the character movement in this game are also used in the underwater levels of Super Mario Bros. So, it are basically the same controlls.
Ex Nintendo president Satoru Iwata did programing this. That time Nintendo surprised because that Famicon version of this has smoother moving than the arcade one.
In the new Smash Bros they gave Animal Crossing's Villager a move where he has the helmet & 2 balloons as his Up-Special. They also have a Balloon Fight stage on the 3DS game.
This game has a sequel on Game Boy called Balloon Kid, which has the same battle and balloon trip modes, but it also has an adventure mode that's the same as balloon trip except you go through a bunch of levels (town, woods, tropics, storms, inside a whale, ice, caves, factory) and there are a ton of new enemies and obstacles and even boss monsters (big bad wolf, giant shrimp, magic snowman, crazy robot), if your balloons get popped you can inflate new ones, and you can even let go of your balloons intentionally and run on land. There's also a Famicom version where you play as Hello Kitty.
branaa09 The music is great. The game was made by the same team that made Metroid (named R&D1), even Yoshio Sakamoto and Gunpei Yokoi worked on it. They had a friendly rivalry with R&D4, Shigeru Miyamoto's team.
They played Ballon trip during the world championship, was very amusing to see. Also they gave the Villger character the Balloon fighter balloons for recovery
They were actually implemented as The Villager in Smash. sure, it's just one of his moves, but you couldn't do a character whose only move is jumping. So you can look at it the other way aroubd, as The Villager being the Balloon Kid with all other moves taken from Animal Crossing.
if you're not missing any balloons in the Balloon Trip mode, the collectable balloon would eventually change colors. The color orders are just like how the balloons are colored in each bonus stage in normal mode.
this game is great it was neat learning that the fish was always moving left and right along the bottom of the screen so thats why you dont get ate sometimes
DAVY JONES LOCKER! Also, a part on Banjo-Tooie (best game EVAHHH). Thanks for reviewing one of the lesser-known A-list games on the NES Classic. You guys fucking rock! The gameplay and commentary makes me feel like I'm there chilling with my friends. Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for the good times. Can't wait until the Nerd Christmas episode =D
I've always preferred Balloon Fight over Joust personally. There was always more freedom to move around with this game, Joust is more restrictive in how you move. (Forgot to mention, this game is also more forgiving than Joust. Like Mike said, you get 2 shots before dying. Joust on the other hand, you get hit once and you die.)
Balloon Trip mode is on the Nintendoland game that was originally included with Wii U, it's an alright game that version (much nicer looking and it has levels instead of just infinite scroller).
Balloon Fight is a lot of fun though I mostly play Balloon Trip mode. I used to play it a lot when I got it for my 3DS. It's a great pick up and play type of game. I can't remember my high-score in Balloon Trip but it's a great feeling when you can get 20 balloons in a row (at least I think it was 20) and the game pauses for a second and the balloons change color.
Someone probably said it already, but the Villager character in Super Smash bros 4 has an up+special move that is nearly exact to the balloon fighter's movements.
I played this a bit in the Animal Crossing game for Gamecube, but I probably enjoyed it more in NES Remix. Completing all the challenges for it was a lot of fun.
Play the Game Boy game 'Balloon Kid'. It's an entire game based around the 'Balloon Trip' game mode. It's a lot of fun, and quite hard in the later stages.
I owned this as a kid, got over a million points in single player, but never finished balloon trip. Think I got to rank 10 or something. This game is a forgotten classic, one of the best on the Nes in my opinion.
I have always loved the graphics of some of these older NES releases, their simplicity adds something to their atmosphere that more graphically advanced games were missing.
I used to play this in "Animal Crossing" for Gamecube. It was really fun, and my favorite NES game.
This was in the AC game for GC?
May Michelle Marquardt Yeah. It had a bunch of NES games in it you can play. Even Super Mario.
I remember playing it as a kid, and only way to get some of the games was in a giveaway like Super Mario which is saved on a GC memory card that comes with the game.
+LJN Warrior well you are "LJN Warrior
this game is fun i lke it wish i wouldof had it as a kid
Brings back memories. I remember playing this with my brothers back in the 80's. I think I still have my copy.
This is still one of my all time favorite games. Loved it from the time it came out and still play it every now and again, to this day. It's just so Zen and relaxing. And the music is great, too.
How I miss those days being a child before christmas and can't wait for finally getting new NES game....
One of those simple games that you can find yourself and friends playing into wee hours of the morning. Good stuff, thanks guys.
The reason you have 2 balloons in balloon trip is it's actually easier to steer and stuff with 2. When 1 pops, it gets way harder to control where you go.
The Balloon Fight theme song is my alarm every day. It was my favorite game as a kid.
Oh man this was one of my favorite games on my 256in1 cart, wich was pretty much the only cart i had late 80s early 90s (besides mario3)
also Ice climber was hilarious with friends, man i miss those days

I'm pro with that character.
Wow, you should really add that to your CV resume!
I can kick your Villager ass with my Villager
I will Little Mack you.
A challenge for Balloon Trip is to change the balloon colors, which involves getting 20 balloons in a row without missing one.
I played the hell out of this as a kid and never knew that.
Another classic that was on the 31-in-1 cartridge!
I literally just added this to my NES collection. It came in the mail today!
This game has a sequel on Game Boy called Balloon Kid, which has the same battle and balloon trip modes, but it also has an adventure mode that's the same as balloon trip except you go through a bunch of levels (town, woods, tropics, storms, inside a whale, ice, caves, factory) and there are a ton of new enemies and obstacles and even boss monsters (big bad wolf, giant shrimp, magic snowman, crazy robot), if your balloons get popped you can inflate new ones, and you can even let go of your balloons intentionally and run on land. mierisdope All three games had music composed by Hip Tanaka who composed for Metroid and Dr. Mario.

The balloon trip music is one of the best I know in the NES collection. So groovy..

KrossoverGod there is fox, R.O.B and captain falcon
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
I'm sure this has been mentioned but damn Mike looks like he never sleeps!!
That RetroAVS is rocking. Picture quality on older videos was fine but this is fantastic.
The villager's triple jump in smash bros is inspired by this game.
I rented this game so many times from the mom n pop video store I could've owned it. one of my all time favorites
This channel has so many memories!
One of my most favourite NES games! It's really nice to have on the go on 3DS too.
Game is so addicting, I keep it in my little pile of go to games next to my nes.
if you're not missing any balloons in the Balloon Trip mode, the collectable balloon would eventually change colors.
The color orders are just like how the balloons are colored in each bonus stage in normal mode.
Love love love this game. Still play it on the regular. The balloon trip is amazing.
Wow I remember playing this co op as a kid..the nostalgia is real..such an awesome fun game
Man, I had forgotten all about this one. I used to play it a lot back then.
The music was used in Tetris DS
In this day and age of bullshit is important to have fun and distract yourself from it...
this game is great
it was neat learning that the fish was always moving left and right along the bottom of the screen so thats why you dont get ate sometimes
Balloon Trip mode is just amazing.
R.I.P. Iwata San...
The music at the beginning of this video just reminded me of Pat the NES punk playing this game when the Nerd called him
balloon fight was my childhood game, it's good to see balloon fight in super smash bros Wii U but just as Villager
DAVY JONES LOCKER! Also, a part on Banjo-Tooie (best game EVAHHH). Thanks for reviewing one of the lesser-known A-list games on the NES Classic. You guys fucking rock! why say 'personally?' balloon fight is generally agreed to be the superior gamr.
I doubt everyone would prefer Balloon Fight over Joust.
i played it A LOT as kid
Pretty cool. I remember playing this some back in the day but haven't played it since then.
3:00 the spinning thing is an item in Super Smash Melee (maybe other smash games as well). And I know Balloon men are trophies in Melee as well.
It's really cool that a game from back then has two modes like that. Never played this. Might have to now. :)
I had Balloon Kid for the game boy. It has like a story and it's more like the second mode you guys did. It's really fun!
Nothing but
This music is, like, SOOOO 8-bitty, like...oh muh gawd.
But really, sadly, from now on, I'll always associate this game's music and sounds with NES remix. Betrayal.
I used to play this on sleepovers with my friend as a kid.
Balloon Trip mode is on the Nintendoland game that was originally included with Wii U, it's an alright game that version (much nicer looking and it has levels instead of just infinite scroller).
video quality is so nice compared to so many other youtube videos .
I get so addicted to balloon trip. It's bad to have it on my 3DS haha.
Love this game, I have the Iwata Edition on cart :)
it's a well known hack :)
Those brown birds look like they may be hummingbirds with their long beaks
I really need to get a copy of this game again. I used to love playing it. :D
I played this SO MUCH back in the day! I have it now on my New Nintendo 3DS XL!
BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC GAME I LOVE NINTENDO WITH MY HEART
I loved this as a kid.
guys , you can refill your own baloons
Villager's "double jump" in Smash 4 makes he fly with baloons, exactly like in this game.
Seeing this game reminded me of Final Fantasy X's balloon race... #stilltraumatized
I just played 90 min of Baloon Fight because of the video. Great game!
Balloon Fight is a lot of fun though I mostly play Balloon Trip mode. I used to play it a lot when I got it for my 3DS. It's a great pick up and play type of game. I never played this game until I got the NES Mini, but I love it!
One of my favourite games.
We need balloon fight remastered with score streaks and supply drops
99 red balloons
floating in the summer sky
Guess that's another game I need to add to my Christmas list.
balloon fighters looks fun.
ziljin it is :D
djlamar2 yep
easily my all time favorite NES game
I thought the enemies were men in pointy masks.
I wont let anyone hurt you Mike!
Thuis Game Reminds Me Of The Late Great Satoru Iwata RIP Mr. Iwata. :(
2:17 - Mike, that was "Iwata" not "Maiwada". Satoru Iwata.
I played this game. Two baloons help you fly better than one.
Have you ever played Ballon Kid on Gameboy? That game rocked
This game is addicting.
Someone probably said it already, but the Villager character in Super Smash bros 4 has an up+special move that is nearly exact to the balloon fighter's movements.
Got Tingle's Balloon Fight, for the DS, yesterday
I played this a bit in the Animal Crossing game for Gamecube, but I probably enjoyed it more in NES Remix. Completing all the challenges for it was a lot of fun.
You know, watching you two play this makes me believe that you both will probably have fun playing TowerFall Ascension on either the PS4 or Steam.
Lol!!!! I was playing this game last night on my new 3DS
Balloon Trip is the best.
lighting is done really nicely.
You think this is where they got the idea for Mario kart battle mode?
Could be!
was thinking the same thing
Villager's recovery move is the closest thing you'll get to Balloon Fight in Smash4.
The VS. version is amazing.
FINALLY! BALLOON FIGHT!!
you can old B instead of tapping A lol
Ballon Kid for the GB was a Blast. Ballon fight with story 😁
I love this game.
Villager's up+B is the Balloon Fight helmet in Sm4sh
Play the Game Boy game 'Balloon Kid'. It's an entire game based around the 'Balloon Trip' game mode. It's a lot of fun, and quite hard in the later stages.

Villager's (Animal Crossing) Up-B in Smash is taken from Balloon fight.
have you played ABOBO'S BIG ADVENTURE - it is a lot of fun !
They're little guys wearing a bycoket (Robin Hood hat)
This game needs a dedicated versus mode. Like joust. Always wanted to play these games tournament style.
my favorite Iwata game.
GameCenter CX did a challenge with the Balloon trip mode. GameCenter CX - NC18 - Balloon Fight
