I never watch a video that's 80 minutes long, but never in this video I even thought of skipping. The amount of work put in and looking at that shine at the end made it all worthwhile. What an amazing job. Sir , you're really a master of your trade. Thank you for this elaborate video, I enjoyed every second, start to finish. I'm blown away.
Before I watched this video, I had invested about 250 hours into my "how to paint a car" education by watching every video I could find on the subject. I learned more in this one hour and twenty two minute presentation than I had up until that point. No fluff, no filler (please excuse the pun), no sponsors... just straight education and information from start to finish. One of the best videos on UA-cam, and I've been watching the 'tube since there was a 'tube to watch.
Hands down, the best auto body demo I have ever seen. If the public school system had teachers with your talent, the word would be a better place for all.
Holycrap!! This man loves painting more than myself?! I LOVE to see someone with this level of passion and depth of knowledge for his craft! When you create art like this- no you don’t hate sanding. You don’t complain about sanding. You can’t Do this without sanding🤣
Agreed that this is an obsessive passion for a lot of us. I used to think I was crazy because I found wet sanding very therapeutic. Maybe so anyway 🤣, but I'm definitely not alone.
In 86 bought a new Ford truck, changed mirrors and had holes left in the doors. One year later Ford had to repaint the truck, primer paint bonding issue. Dropped off at dealer and remembered the holes. had my service truck with me, took a real hot soldering gun out, countersunk the holes and filled with 60/40. touched solder with Dremmel drum sander, painter and ast. watching. The kid asked him what I was doing and he replied leave him alone and learn something, he's leading the holes it will never fail. 32 years later I still have truck and unholey doors. Low temp solder, no warpage. You know what you are doing, good man.
great job ,, I a,m a painter also been doing it for over 30 years and I do my work just like you it is such a great feeling to know that there is still craftsmen out there like us , I.m 62 and still going ,,, happy painting my friend ,and many more to come.
Yeah, I have watched this video more than twice in it's entirety. Watched it again. No drama, no bs, no crapola over and over, well other than " you are the machine". Wouldn't mind anew one.
Total Respect to Jon Kosmoski House of Color. My friend Jim Gates who won a best of show at World of Wheels talked of Jon Kosmoski House of Color for decades. Thanks for sharing the video Pharraway!
You did all that in ten days!!! Man, you are a robot. You certainly have earned the title of Master Painter. Truly excellent work and professional teaching at the same time. How proud you must feel to produce work like that car, just gorgeous. Thanks for the lessons. Well worth the hour and twenty two minutes watch time.
Dude for real I’ve been a pro painter for almost 2 years now and it took me triple the time to bodywork/paint a 63 charger with waterbase basecoat and high solids clear this guy is a master fr, reminds me of a nicer version of my old instructor
You are as methodical in painting as I am wet plastering. ( in my 35 years plastering , I’ve contracted C. O. P. D. ) which stops me from a job I love and know more than the kids nowadays are taught. ( forgotten more than they’ll very know) . Thank you for sharing our trade and I look forward to having a conversation with you regarding paints and shipping them to the. Uk. For me. I have an old 1970 triumph that wants a modern paint 🎨 job. As methodically as you have just shown. Thank you sir
Thank you Jon: What a priviledge to watch your video and to watch you create such a beautiful paint job, more like art work. I am in years beyond doing something like this but I can certainly appreciate your teaching others to push themselves to do this kind of work, thank you again.
I will never ever paint a car but I like watching how it’s done as I often learn things that help with painting my small projects. Nothing I’ve seen comes even close to this video for detail, tips and all round delivery. Absolutely fantastic, thank you.
That was Awesome , you brang back some childhood memories of helping and watching my Dad doing bodywork. He used to cut it, shape it and braise it. Then the grinding, body-fill and primer. Lot's of times he had random spectators standing around watching, people always coming up asking questions on how to fix there car. He'd stop for a min, sweat dripping, light up a smoke and give them 5 min, then say well good luck and back at it. It's cool to see old school talent and pride, keepin it alive!
Just finished preparing a 1970 nova for primer body was in sorry shape brought it out smooth and straight waiting for the phone call from the owner that he purchased the primer sealer and the base coat for his choice of color then I’ll be back to have shop class, meaning he will be watching and he will be spraying he wants to learn, going to use house of color products for this nova no emblems completely straight going to look very nice and unique. thanks again Great video!
Waiting for the owner came down really sick a lot of downtime here!! Back on my 1940 Ford it's ready for sealer and primer as well finishing up my blinker system which was never offered. Love your videos sir.
As I began to attempt to paint my car (for the first time) 2 years ago, I began on a voyage of almost every car painting video that has been posted online. This video has most all of the knowledge gained in the past two years, all in an hour and a half! I've heard almost every tip he has to offer from other people's mouths, but with no idea why they are doing these things! Fantastic video with real world application and actual useful info with the rationale to support it. Thanks a million
Wow! I just wanted to watch a few tips from this video, but ended up watching the whole thing! It was amazing watching an old school professional with pride in his work. A must-watch for any car enthusiast!!!
Don’t know what was better his narrative skills or his painting skills ... watched every minute and was amazed at the finished result... definitely one of kind beauty.. Respect!!!
Old school Jon. He's a local celebrity in my area. Grew up here his name constantly in my trade. Now I'm grown and spreading my expertise knowledge to the youngins. 😎😁 Love them old timers.
Favorite part is, "I am a robot, I am a robot. The walk begins now. This is not so hard. You can do this. Watch that paint hitting the panel. If you don't watch that paint, you don't know how fast to move." Such a great video. Thanks for reposting Pharraway!
Even when it was just the greenish primer and matte black it was BEAUTIFUL. This is some gorgeous work by a true craftsman. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Painting my Truck/Car has always been something I wanted to do, but never had the chance to do. It is on my "Bucket List" and I intend to cross this one off the list. Now at age 65 I can actually allot the proper time to learn from the Masters of the Trade before putting the Gun in hand. A major plus in watching the seasoned Masters is that I don't have a bunch of background in automotive painting, a blank slate so to speak. "LIKE A ROBOT" Luv it. Thanks Jon
Wow!! I was taught how to paint a long time ago. BINKS #7 and acrylic enamel... This is the first guy that is able to bring the thought process and what you should be thinking of while painting to words.. Can I come work for you?!! Very knowledgeable and confident. Anyone that is thinking of doing this type of work or painting this is a must watch!!! GREAT VIDEO!!! This is how you do a professional job without getting out of control. Alot of excellent tips. Pay attention people its all in the details just like the paint it builds and builds. If your diligent and have these type of habits. You will have these type of results... AWESOME!!!
I don't know what it is but, I cannot get used to watching a "Lefty" use his hands. Decent job. And I love spraying House of Color. It's just simply the best!!!
I've never painted a car. I know (knew) nothing about it. But I enjoy learning. And I especially enjoy watching and learning from master instructors who have through trial and error perfected their skills, techniques and trade over years and ESPECIALLY those who are so thoughtful and patient to put such effort into making comprehensive instructional videos and making them available to us average Joes... This instructional video is informative, comprehensive, inspiring, motivational, EXCEPTIONAL. Thank you and God bless you Jon and all those others out in UA-cam land who not only put these efforts in, but are clearly proud to share and enjoy the process of teaching. You are indeed exceptional.
I'm a Painting Contractor, 40 Years. Jon, I thoroughly enjoyed watching you applying your Craft! Your attention to detail is captivating. Preparation, Preparation, Preparation! Detail, Detail, Detail!
As someone who is new into this trade and will be attending a collision repair course in the near future, i am honored to learn skillful methods from someone with nearly 5 decades of hands on experience. I knew within the 1st few minutes i would be watching alot of your content. Thanks for sharing your professionalism sir!
Fantastic video. You can hear the passion in your voice from beginning to end. You, sir, are a true master of your craft. If only everyone put this kind of effort into what they do the world would be 1000 times more beautiful then it is already.
There's something about your delivery that's sincere and appreciated. Feels like my uncle is teaching me... and I'm a Black guy. Easy subscribe and like. Thanks Unc!
Christopher, being you are ASE certified I have a question that has been puzzling be about this video. Don't get me wrong, this is a great video and I am honored to view it. The question I have is , I have been taught that the sealer goes on first and then the high build primer. Help me understand please. Thanks, Phillip Hall
My grandfather would always tell me, take care of yourself boy, take care of your body and you will only ever have one! Ofcourse he was right. He was talking from experience! He injured his back working in the dock years ago....typical that i went on years later to do the same, only through multiple car and motorcycle crashes. I ruined my body bigtime but now I find myself telling my sons the same, to look after their bodies....and guess what, my eldest son had already had a freak rugby accident and has almost an identical injury to his right knee that I have to my left knee...oh well all we can do is look out for others I guess. Fate is fate.
Been painting for 40+ years ad you would be using the hardest paint to get right but your teacher skills are good tips for the young guys and girls to work with well done !!!!
Ever watch A movie and when itt's over, more time has passed than you thought?? That's because it was one helluva movie! Best Instructional auto painting vid I've ever seen! If this video Doesn't get you Motivated to tackle A paint job, then Nothing Wil lol! Great work!
I really enjoyed the play by play. It took a min to realize it but you weren't just describing what you were doing, you were showing what actually goes through your mind in the moment. You're are your own coach, critic and motivational speaker constantly reminding yourself. A real Pro, thanks for sharing your craft and work ethic.
Wow that whole series was unreal, you can see the years of experience coming through, and that good old pride in your workmanship, that was the best editorial in custom painting I have EVER seen
Well of course he is. He did, after all, create the best custom paint out there, when there really wasn't any, so it stands to reason he would also be a professional at spraying it. I grew up watching and learning about HOK, John, and the painting industry, and have used it on several occasions. ;) (been doing collision repair and some restorations for 43 years now).
No doubt! I would have loved to watch him! (I'm a collision tech for the last 43 years. Don't do any painting now, but painted for 25 years, including a few restorations and customs. ;) )
Jon this video is amazing. You impress the Hell out of me. There's something I have forgotten to do in my life and that is to become an expert at something. I am very meticulous and have an eye for detail and I strive for perfection in all that I do. I wonder if with the proper training I could have followed in your footsteps. There's nothing more worthwhile doing than achieving that accomplished feeling of pride from seeing the results of a job well done. I had my Camaro painted when I was 25. The guy that did it also did all the mechanic work before that. He'll always be my hero and I really need to make sure he knows that. Thanks for sharing this video. My hats off to anyone that can achieve this level of perfection. It's truly remarkable.
Your a very good teacher Jon. I'm a long time painter and still have unopened cans of Metal Flake cans of candy, flip flop and pearls from the 1980's. I love using your House of color paint. Must say the metallic in them always makes me smile. Makes me happy to hear you say "this is fun" when your spaying the car, thought I was the only one who thought that way. Never get tired of finishing and standing back knowing It was all me that did it. Thanks for the video.
Great Video. I'm not even a painter and watched the whole video. Perfection in motion. If you don't become better with this, then you weren't paying attention.
WOW! SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE...SO MUCH PRIDE IN CRAFTMANSHIP. I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH FROM A TRUE CRAFTSMAN. THANK SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR SKILLS. IF ONLY ONE CAN REMEMBER THEM ALL. I HAVE WRITTEN DOWN AS MUCH AS I COULD.THANK YOU. PS THE CAR LOOKS FANTASTIC!
its like in any trade the more you do your trade the better you get at it, till one day chit you can do it with your eyes closed, its like a journey to be good at the trade.
This is far and away the most comprehensive vehicle painting video I’ve ever seen. Thank you so much for proving such a detailed video with all of your tips from years of experience. Great video!
Im a painting company owner, i do alot spraying especially on exteriors. There is stuff in this video I learned and can apply to my work while spraying. That's how you know you have mastered a skill or trade. 👍👍👍
what a fantastic tutorial. Decades of hard won experience distilled into just a few minutes . Thank you for producing and posting this guide it will now be my go-to tutorial
This is the best video on UA-cam of painting a car, reason is that you can tell he has years upon years of experience an actually does this for a living. I mean look at how clean it looks even in the primer stage. Thank you for taking the time to make the video.
The next time I hear somebody griping about the cost of a custom paint job, I'm going to send them a link to this video. And this was an easy prep compared to some of them that I've seen. Outstanding instructional video thank you very much!
I've watched this video twice now in its entirety prior to tackling a much less stressful job. I am so confident that I'll impress myself with the result. Thanks to Jon for showing the process involved in such a gorgeous paint job as well as prep and finish! Wish you the best Jon! One day, I hope to be able to lay it down and have it look a fraction as nice as this was.
Not just "how to", steps, tips and tricks You are giving us here Mr Kosmoski - I find here something greater - that is the way how to take this job, in positive way, disciplined or simply IN THE RIGHT WAY ! You are true Master of the trade and you give 101% in job and that is only right way to do it. Without it or without respect, focus, will and sure a lots of knowledge and experience - there is not even a chance to finish painting of a car with satisfied result. Im beginner in this I can say ultimate painting - I have paint a lots of other things as furniture, steel constructions, houses, some bike parts, wheels and some "patching" on car - never did whole car and now one is waiting me to get ready... I want to do it not just to be "good", it have to be great ! :) And in one try, without of need to I will need to do it again ... I have watched a lots of videos here, lots of people - mostly called "master craftsman", the best etc - but by them selfs. One more kind is here too - those who make money from people who want to learn something and do that in really bad way. Mr Kosmoski - I watched you a lots of times - again and again and if I learned something about painting it is from you - thank you very much ! Greatest thing I learned that if I do everything from start right to finest details with right materials and keep everything clean in right order - I will and I can do it. I dont have to fear to even try ... So now I need to finish some body work on my project and buy one decant spray gun (sure not professional and expensive), some more materials - base paint, some cleaner... Mostly I have everything else. I want to thank you one time more for all I have learned from you and that is almost everything I know about car painting ! Cheers, wish you all the best, God bless you !
My dad was a body/paint man for 45 years....now he has COPD to compliment his heart disease. Please remember to use a respirator for not only paint but sanding too. Stay safe.
I'm blown away.
dang it was a long one and im on lunch break, oh $!%&

Probably the most Valuable Paint class on UA-cam. Thanks for all this.
Wow that whole series was unreal, you can see the years of experience coming through, and that good old pride in your workmanship, that was the best editorial in custom painting I have EVER seen
The painter was totally professional at his work and the car came out 100% perfect. Great video for shore.
His one of the best painters around
Well of course he is. He did, after all, create the best custom paint out there, when there really wasn't any, so it stands to reason he would also be a professional at spraying it. I grew up watching and learning about HOK, John, and the painting industry, and have used it on several occasions. ;) (been doing collision repair and some restorations for 43 years now).
Ronald Cluney I watched him spray a car when I was in college, dude is a robot with a spray gun!
No doubt! I would have loved to watch him! (I'm a collision tech for the last 43 years. Don't do any painting now, but painted for 25 years, including a few restorations and customs. ;) )
for sure*
What a amazing finished product , the robot instructor was the best teacher ive ever watched also.
👍👍👍
Fabuloso... !!!
Nem de fábrica a coisa fica assim... !!!
O HOMEM é uma máquina (Robot).
Parabéns.
I love this video, 2nd time watching it. I could never in a million years paint a car but I love listening to a master discuss his work.
You're not just a superb painter, you're a superb Instructor.
KOS AND PEANUTS WERE THE BEST CUSTOM PAINTERS IN THE TWIN CITIES AS I GREW UP. THEY PAINTED ALL THE AWARD WINNING CARS.
Jonny u are a master, thanks for sharing ur knowledge with the public, not many guys in the industry left like u.
I met this guy once, he is quite the character! His paints are of the highest quality, nothing like what I use on everyday repairs.
Top quality!
Loved your products back in the 90’s and it’s never changed!
WOW - it was a pleasure watching a Master at his craft!
Bondo it's smells so good. My dad used to do painting and body work. As kid s we used to sand the guide coat off. Fun times
This is far and away the most comprehensive vehicle painting video I’ve ever seen. Thank you so much for proving such a detailed video with all of your tips from years of experience. Great video!
This may be the best tutorial I've ever seen on any subject, anywhere. Well done.
The consummate craftsman at work! A special breed.
Thank you.
This is a master painter making such a difficult under rated task so easy! Really amazing!!
Agradeci o bom trabalho que vi
One great instructional video. Randomly popped up on my timeline and couldn't stop watching! Thank you sir!
This is the best video on UA-cam of painting a car, reason is that you can tell he has years upon years of experience an actually does this for a living. I mean look at how clean it looks even in the primer stage. Thank you for taking the time to make the video.
Oh man ! A little over an hour of pure bliss :D Only wanted to see five minutes but ended up watching the whole masterpiece in one go! Awesomeness :D
Same here legendary!
same here brother
same to you too!
i agreed.... magic.
Hey everyone, the best success that ive had was with the Magic Painter Method (i found it on google) without a doubt the no.1 course i've tried.
The next time I hear somebody griping about the cost of a custom paint job, I'm going to send them a link to this video. And this was an easy prep compared to some of them that I've seen. Outstanding instructional video thank you very much!
You are amazing I do paint job 30 years but I like it your job too much good job my friend
best custom painting video I've ever seen. This is basically all you need to know.
I love watching an artisan at work.
Great job showing and telling, I got a 1990f350 I wood love to give it a good paint job. Thanks for showing telling well see ya next time see ya bye.
My dad was a body/paint man for 45 years....now he has COPD to compliment his heart disease. Please remember to use a respirator for not only paint but sanding too. Stay safe.
