- Today we're painting the 1985 Fiero GT with a $39 HVLP paint gun and Nason single stage urethane. The trick to spraying paint with a cheap HVLP paint gun and getting no orange peel is to spray at full pressure... the more pressure you spray at the flatter the paint lays ✅

Really appreciate the honesty. I get all the same feelings you were expressing.... forgetting some details... getting nervous... stuff like that. Most people on the tube just act like a pro even though they are not. Lol. Good show!
If you aren’t a little nervous, you probably don’t care about the work you are about to do.
Chad is really a motiving, get-it-done and talented builder! After years of low-budget builds and garage paint jobs I still am amazed by his skill and energy. Awesome!
Great job!! I know it's a freebie. But family is priceless .Wait till you see Jolene Father's face .Sometimes that's the only payment you need to see the look in there face. I have paint my daughters cars and it was always worth it to me to look what u have done for someone else .Keep up the good work teaching everyone how to do things always enjoy watching. showing love from Texas
The urethane looks great if applied well. I had a 68' charger back in the eighties that was painted with urethane single stage in dark metallic green and it looked like a new car when it was done and after watching how well your 39 dollar paint gun worked it has inspired me to try one myself.
I LOVE WATCHING YOU PAINT BAD CHAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS LIKE WATCHING A FAMOUS ARTIST AT HIS/HER CRAFT, IF THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice spray gun work as you always kept a wet edge. TCP global sold a 3 gun package for around a hundred bucks. My neighbor who had a body shop years ago restored his 1913 Studebaker used one and the paint is flawless. Its more the operator than the equipment. And I produced cleaner paint jobs in a garage than a spray booth. Good job Chad
Chads intensity and concentration while paint or doing anything for that matter is awesome. Giving 100% is the only way he rolls and this 'freebie' job is as good as any out there. Thank you, take care and peace out.
Looking good. We usually wet the floors first to catch and keep the dust from floating around. But its a free paint job like you said.
Love watching and learning. Thanks for the hard work you two. Very satisfying to watch
You guys rock, keep living your best life Chad, you and yours are brilliant. Nice looking paint job you got there, just goes to show you, one can do more with less if only they believe they can~! heck of a job. Nice camera work, i like the way you lag Chad's steps by 3 to 5 steps to make sure you don't get in the way, pretty sharp. Thanks for posting, really enjoy your thought process and your work.
The paint job looks really good Chad! The color really pops! I enjoyed watching you spray every pass but I hate to say it again paint Elvis! The colors for Elvis and your patterns embody a classic late 50's early 60's customs. I can't wait to see those colors sprayed it is almost hypnotizing watching each pass. Excellent painting Chad.
What a great paint job, Chad! Looking like a jewel now! And thank you, Jolene, for recording it for posterity! Take care.😊
What a treat watching the whole process unfold. Thanks Chad and Jolene
As always y’all help teach the working man how to save money and time to make beautiful art. Thank y’all much!!
Thanks for your great content and motivating people to build stuff
Gotta love watching Chad spray paint , looks sweet , nice job Sir ! Awesome camera work Jolene capturing all the action !!!Thanks for sharing ! Give an extra pat to Fina for me 👍
Looks pretty good Chad. I found out it was handy to have all the paint materials in the Booth close to the work when I had my shop. A small desk or shelf is all that is needed. Every time a door is opened, there is a chance for contaminates to float around. Jolene's Step Dad will be pleased with his new toy.
I definitely agree with you about having all the paint in the booth before spraying, it saves time, reduces risk of dust and helps to keep the wet edge for merging the paint
Noticed some trash in rear deck and left rear quarter , prob from opening that door so many times while exaust fan runs.
Yes, he should have premixed multiple bottles and kept them in the room so he would waste time and chance dust getting on the paint. Hard to watch.
Love the red color! Looking good,Tim should be very pleased, I sure would be. Thanks for sharing, great job to you both!!
Nice paint job Chad and jolene it's really going to look nice when it's finished. I would paint the spoiler black to match the other bits of black on the car it would make it stand out more. But that's just my opinion. Keep up the great work the both of you 👍 👏
Love the way you desperate your car stuff different then the rest ......you explain why your doing it and how
Looking forward to you laying down paint. Can’t wait to see it all back together and shiny
Hi Chad Jolene, it’s JR. I don’t know if you use a tack rag before every paint job but I’ve been painting cars for over 30 years and I can tell you it really makes a difference. That’s all, I just want to help if I can. You both keep up the good work and I’ll see you on the next video. Bye-bye
A tac rag is a must, rags and prep sol take most of it off put there is still a decent amount of shit left after that usually
yeah and after that i used to spray a coat of 666 before sealer and final paint..😅
@BabyPiggy He's said before he uses windex to clean the surface and that's it. It works for him. Most of the paint jobs I see him do are good but he doesn't go overboard on putting in tons of unnecessary hours if the project doesn't warrant that. It's a Fiero for godsakes. They were marketed as a poor man's vette. They used a chevette suspension. lol.
Blow, tac & Static for the win as Robbie Layton says.
@@85square actually no there isnt....if u use the proper care from the start to final prep then the dirt and residue should be gone. Also a clean environment is a must with a single stage. With a base coat clear coat if u get some dirt, dust or bugs u can fix it before the clear. If its a single stage all u have is the prep and environment element that will dictate the outcome amd what level of painter u are..
I paint ppg single stage everyday with a ppg base / clear overall paint job about 3times a week. Probably over 900 53ft 8 axle trailers and semi trucks.. from plain jane to 7 or 8 different candy colors (tri stage).. so i am still in training
Thank you for the paint clinic. Paint management and spray decisions are a few of things that I learned here.
Check out Paint Society. He really talks you through the why's and how to of the process.
That paint job reminds me off back in the 70s when i was kid painting cars for cash on the side to go partying. I could n't get away with it now !!! Well done Chad its nice to help a friend out. Tack rag or microfibre would help keep the dust with a little water on the floor but hey ho it looks ok.
Tim is gonna have a sweet looking car for sure! Thanks Chad and Jolene! Love the channel!
I knowvyou both work tirelessly to get everything prepped, all the video and audio. I watched the primer/sealer this morning and kept checking for the painting tonight. But most of all, I love how your both oxen pulling the same direction. Of course it’s right in the middle of the hood. Love watching you
Thanks for the great video guys ,that’s going to look nice when it’s all said and done ,and I reckon your going to be glad to see the arse end of it when it leaves ,your a bloody master of your art mate ,Cheers from down under.
That red color looks very familiar. It reminds me of Carasel Red on Pontiac GTO/The Judge models. I hope the owner likes his paint job. Red oxidizes really fast and fads if you don't take care of it. I like it! Don't you just hate it when bugs land on the first coat of paint. "FRUSTRATING!" LookIng good, Chad!👍
this car may very well be the best looking fiero in nova scotia! hope it gets driven and seen by lots of people. that would be good advertising for hiltz auto company. great job chad and jolene!
happy to hear u sometimes have issues too...not cause I want to fail but because it gives me hope that I can maybe lay down a decent paint job too...thanks u guys!
You are so damb good at this, it's a great pleasure just watching you do this. I always learn so much each time you work. And Julien is great at recording I never miss a detail.
single stage is sprayed: 2 an a half coats, 2 medium coats( the paint should be taky in between coats). the half coat is a pulled back mist coat usually for organizing the metallics. this is done directly after the panel is 2nd coated. lov all yur vids
I truly wish I had seen your methods for body work and painting before I painted my pickup several years ago! No doubt in my mind it would have been a better finished project! Best wishes Chad! Kevin
Good job spraying, looks very nice
Let us see that beautiful red gloss on this old Fiero GT. Gonna turn some heads once again when finished. Thanks for sharing.
The paint looks great Chad.... Jolene you are amazing with your video work.... being able to capture every detail!👍🇨🇦
There’s a Jackson Pollock painting I saw at MOMA that has a cigarette butt stuck in the paint along the edge. Obviously Jackson was smoking and painting at the time...so it was handy I guess.
Anyway, the painting is virtually priceless - hundreds of millions - or more. Probably even more because of the J. P. DNA or whatever. Anyway, Chad, don’t sweat the small stuff! A couple of genuine Nova Scotia bugs ups the value of this Fiero. Enjoyed the video. Good work Jolene!
You guys do so much work, you are amazing!
No easy task working live without editing. You are a talented genuine guy.
Thanks guys learned alot and really enjoy the information
The ventilation system in the paint shop still works, it's immortal. It just makes a little noise, like they are grinding stones. 😁
Great job guys. 👍
Greetings from Switzerland
You don't notice those noises slowly getting louder over the years.
Happened to me recently when our clothes washer threw its bearings. I only realised afterwards that for the last couple of months we'd had to shut the laundry door it got so loud. I'm an engineer and should definitely have known better the new one is all but silent, like it should be 🤦🏻♂️
@@prdoohan Yes, you are right, with daily habit you do not notice that the noises increase. It happened to me too with the car's exhaust pipe rusting slowly. 😅
Hey Chad n Jolene…. Really enjoyed this journey on Tim’s car, can’t wait to see his face…😎🤙
Good to see how nice it comes out using inexpensive tools
It's so awesome watching a master at their craft. As modest as you are at times, you are definitely a master of your craft.
Chad is a hard worker
You can clearly see it in how he moves and is constantly planning ahead talking out every next step and every mistake he can remember from his experience’s that’s what makes him great at what he does
Great job Chad ,could tell you were pumped up painting this car, jolene the camera work spot on,Have a great night,God bless.
I got to hand it to Chad. He’s pretty smooth with a paint gun and his overlaps are perfect.
The car already looks much better with the red paint on it. I can't wait to see it with the silver and black accent. Chad and Jolene are awesome.
Lay it on . When your paint dries it should look like the paints still wet ! Thumbs-up Jolene 👍 Chad 👍 Aidyn and Jim. Super nice paint job Chad. Great content 👌
Couldn’t have said it better my self 👍👍👍👍
Great people, great job
Nice job. Makes me want to paint something again.
Thank you Chad for what you do!
You work is so inspiring!
I enjoy watching your videos on UA-cam much more than when you were on T.V; back then you seemed very stressed. Well thanks again for showcasing your talent. 👍🏼
Looking forward to seeing it running down the road great work you two make a great team 👍
thank you so much for your videos ,you are my instructor for my first time build c10 .
That is one heck of a red. It is so deep. It's going to luck great. Great job Chad and Jolene. Wow!!!
Well done on another great job folks, the cars got a new lease of life again and looking class 🤘😊🤘
Looks great, I have one of those elcheapo guns and turning the pressure up worked awesome last time, thaks for the advice but painting outside wasnt exactly ideal but thats what I had and the car came out ok.
As long as it protects the car and doesn't look like a roller job, not that there is anything rong with paint roller, but sealing the metal is the main objective, at least you gave it a go not just leave it to rot, all the best to you and your loved ones
It looks great. Nice job getting that done.
What a beautiful red. It looks great on the corvette.
Really looks great ! There's nothing like painting a car to get your day going ! What color is the wing going to be ? I hope you have enough paint for it if it's going to be red !
Great job again off both of you, thanks for sharing
Looks awesome. Good job Hiltz 🤘
Yep nice work Chad .you brought new life to that old fiero, great job and I love your channel
look at that paint fire!! my man putting in work making magic in the garage! keep killin it bro!
Great video for sure man and I enjoyed watching your painting style and technique for sure!
What psi are you spraying on this job and do you leave the pressure the same for all 3 coats?
Only recommendation I have is to buy a larger cup for spraying an entire car just to keep from re-filling it between coats.
You are an artist for sure bro and keep doing what you’re doing! 👍👌
Good evening everyone hope all is well and your having a wonderful day and thank you for sharing chad and jolene also this car looks beautiful
love watching the fab of his cars . and a lot of those cars done for tv are painted professionally . and boy you can tell. I bet they were not done with $39 hvlp gun . the paint area is too dirty and has no extraction. that fan wouldn't power a hairdryer. you can see overspray in the air whilst he is painting and that needs to be fully extracted otherwise going too fall back down on the paint . I hope Chad when he extends the shop builds a top end paint booth that is filtered and extracted . along with a couple of Sata or De Vil Biss paint guns . then Chad is on fire 🔥.
Wow! You guys rock! You do such nice work, great job.👍👍
Awesome paint job
That's going to be a good looking Fiero once it's all back together. Looking forward to the next video.
Looks great
Doing a great job sir, I'm new to your Chanel so don't know for sure that you don't have one,but invest in some decent guns, that alone will lay the paint down nice, you seen to have a good enough technique, looking forward to seeing more of your work and watch you grow, keep up the good work sir
You're videos are awesome BC 👌 love the builds.
I wait up at night to watch Chad at work, well worth the wait, watching from Devon in the UK
Looking great! I love red also. Nice editing Jolene. You turned an hour and half into half hour. Love watching you two work. Also loved the car show on Facebook
I like all of your work keep up the great work 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice looking paint job on the fiero Jolene and chad.
Looking good Chad . Nice work as usual !!
Cool ride I remember those back in the day. Congratulations on bringing it back to its former glory
The ol bearings in that extraction fan protesting like crazy. Was a pleasure to watch you lay down that paint!
Reminds me of me when I was young. Love to watch you work. I won first place full custom hardtop in 1988 at Autorama in Detroit, with a 1967 RS Camero.
hi chaddie boy like to see people do it themselves...but h v l p its all in the name...low pressure if you turn the pressure down you wont hose so much paint on but a very good effort i painted a model a with a £15 spray gun and it looked mint....so it can be done for no money...if you get plenty of paint on and it looks rough flat it back with 1500 wet polish it up a week later....billy
Chad, how much paint did you need to do the three coats, and what pressure do you spray at ? Enjoy it immensely, great job.
Looks fantastic 👌 👍 looking forward to see 👀 it all together another quality job by hiltz auto co.
Good job looks like it layed down smooth
Jolene... bless her heart... in the paint booth... teamwork. Looks beautiful in the booth... even better outside.
thats a sweet color on the car.nice job
Enjoy your upcoming vacation. Hope you come back. Love your daily video peak into your life and your wonderful philosophy on life.
It ain't the quality of the paint gun that matters, it's the quality of the person pulling the trigger. Bullseye, Chad!
Paint job came out great 👍🏾looks way better from what it look like in the beginning.
Looks Beautiful ....Great Job Chad !
Nice job wish I could come up and see your shop Sunday but you're too far away from me I'm in Texas I watch your videos every day when I can you are an awesome fabricator
I like how he has his welder and plasma cutter in the paint booth and his mixing bench on the other side of the shop. Those bugs like the smell of paint- it brings out every spider and insect around.
Great job Chad and Jolene, can't wait to see it in the Nova scotia sun!! 👍
You can do it any way you want, yes you can, but I always do the unders and overs first that way you never have to change the gun settings during the wotk.
Very nice job love that red
One of the tricks I was taught was to turn all the lights off in the booth and go in with a flash light shining at the paint to see if u got full coverage everywhere. Helped me big time. But the amount ur putting on that thing, you won't have that issue, hopefully it helps someone out cheers.❤
Ready to see some red Paint laid down today . Nice and smooth
Really looking forward to seeing the fiero reassembled. Keep up the good work
nice job guys looks great
