    Have you ever seen hot transmission temps while hauling? Is your engine oil running hot? Do you drive your truck like Dale Earnhardt in the '98 Daytona 500? Do you haul or tow with your Powerstroke?
    If you answered yes to any of the above questions or if you just love America then you actually need this part.
    Keep in mind that 2017+ trucks use the primary coolant system to cool the transmission. By keeping the primary coolant lower will result in keeping your transmission temps lower. Obviously along with engine oil also.

      How has your fuel economy been. I ask cuz I bought one, haven’t installed it yet, but learned after that some have reported a decrease in fuel efficiency. Plausible, considering that the truck is trying to reach its target temp, and if it can’t, it continues to dump more fuel to achieve such. Your feedback is much appreciated.

    Perfect for non winter areas. I like my 195 thermostat in the winter... People should also have a look at how dirty/plugged their rads are. I just did mine this weekend... Plugged with leaves and pollen, dirt etc... After cleaning it, this made a 10deg difference on its own....

      Hi Doug. This will NOT have ill-effects in colder climates. The truck still takes the same amount of time to go from 0-175* . With the SPE thermostat it will just open at 175* rather than waiting until 194* as it does with the OEM thermostat.

    A couple things to keep in mind with this:
    #1: depending what you're running for a tune, you will get a CEL with this thermostat, because it won't see it's minimum operating temp ( I had this on my one customers 16 super duty)
    #2: this will only help trans temps on 17+ trucks, as the 11-16 run the transmission cooler on the secondary system.
    Another thing, there is a thermostat on the transmission you can actually remove to lower your trans temps without adding additional coolers.
    One other thing is a question, what area of western pa are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm from a little east of Pittsburgh.

      I’m no expert so I could be wrong Terry but I believe from the 2017+ they started doing the fluid temp control on the primary system which makes it run hotter as to where previously before 2017 they ran it on the secondary system.

    Probally not a good idea if you have stock emissions. The emissions regen does not start until you reach normal operating temps. The 20 degree drop will delay the start of a regen. For sort trips, this could lead to problems. You will also have delays in cabin heat during the winter. Mama might not like that.

    I guess what I’m curious about is where exactly is it written that 225+ degrees will damage the transmission? Ford engineering designed this truck purposely for towing and I couldn’t imagine them putting the wrong thermostat into tens of thousands of trucks. I know SPE wants to sell these units but I’d like to know the facts about the original engineering before I consider contemplating a change.

    • @1134Bigguy

      You could use simple logic. The cooler a transmission runs the longer it will last. I put a large trans cooler on my 2000 7.3 Super Duty and had 305K on the truck when I sold it with having never pulled the transmission. Also ran Amsoil Synthetics. Also never pulled the valve covers. I recently did the same thing with my 2017 F350 6.7, since it served me well before. Do a search for "transmission heat chart" and you'll see the point. Great question! I also had a by-pass oil filter system and extra deep Mag Hytec transmission pan.

I pull a 14000 lb fifth wheel travel trailer and I’ve never seen my trans temp get above 220 and the tranny and cooling system is completely stock. I cannot believe Ford or GM... amongst several other brands would recommend a fluid that breaks down in the cautionary zone and give you such a small tolerance between good temps and bad.

Also the red zone on the ezlynk monitor is a preset suggestion, no matter the vehicle. It has nothing to do with ford or the engine. "big ugly, wide wheels like that"
    I'm so glad you said it before I did.
    I'm not sure I understand the purpose of this mod. I get that it's about reducing reducing temps, but these transmissions are designed to work in the 230+ degree range, and that's straight from Ford techs and engineers. Changing for lower temperature thermostat means that combustion chamber temps are lowered, which will result in increased carbon deposits when running cooler. This will result in less engine life, UNLESS the truck is seeing constant tough duty in extreme hot weather conditions, like Arizona pulling 20k lb. Just because the temps are lower doesn't mean it's saving the engine/trans. This will even affect EGTs meaning DPF will fill more regularly, resulting in more diesel use and more DEF use. I pull 11k through the Colorado mountains often with my '18 F-350, and have never seen had an issue, even with temps in the 230s on the trans.

      @beerdude7 the idea is that it starts cooling your engine sooner than the stock one, but it still allows it to rise to a temp that'll burn off any water, so it won't be making your fan blow while the main coolant is 140° in January

    • @mrrude7211
      @mrrude7211 3 роки тому +1

      No because 225 isn't too hot. That's just the standard setting on ezlynk and it's adjustable. It has nothing to do with a spec for the engine. You can change the redzone on the monitoring, it's just at the regular setpoint when coming from ezlynk, not the ford setting.

    • @mrrude7211
      @mrrude7211 3 роки тому +1

      Also, he changed the engine thermostat, not the 2nd cooling system thermostat that actually cools the trans. The 10 degree cooler temp when recording the video in the morning had everything to do with the temp drop.

    There are numerous reasons why Ford engineers designed the 6.7 Diesel and their transmission to run at those higher temps. Changing that is basically re-designing the system😳.

    • @skoffco
      @skoffco 3 роки тому +3

      Jake Heke you don’t think the engineers at Ford didn’t consider that when they designed the oil to run at those temps? They could of simply used a thermostat to run at a lower temp if were an issue. The specific oils used today are perfectly happy to do their jobs more efficiently at higher temps.
