VENGEANCE (S5E13) Tearjerker Ending, Clark’s Vigilante Future & Tom’s Artsy Choices #smallville #talkville
Clark and Martha watching the home video of Jonathan was such a special scene that it pulls at the heartstrings every time. What any of us would give to have one more moment to see our loved ones who have passed, or to hear their voices one more time.
I’m one of the many not afraid to admit they cried a little watching that scene. Having followed the show so intently and relating so much to Clark…it’s like we all lost a dad there 😢
@@KalEl44even thinking about it brings me to tears 😭
Hits me everytime
I remember crying like a baby when I watch that scene on the DVD release. I knew it was coming and yet it still hit me right in the gut every single time.
Good grief that last scene! Nothing on Smallville has ever made me cry this hard. Not even Jonathan's death itself. It's a lightning in a bottle moment where everything clicks perfectly: Martha's quiet grief, Clark crying this hard for the first time, the melancholic music, Jonathan's video in the background, the "bye bye"... 😭😭😭
That scene hits really hard! Still makes me cry.
yeah in Reckoning, I was still processing the entire ep at once so it wasn't till this next ep that it sunk in. and that final scene is flawlessly executed, just start to sob and don't even realize the tears are pouring out till you gasp for a breath 😭😅
I cry every time I watch it. I cried watching Superman and Lois first 2 episodes
It's the saddest scene of the entire show, and any other show I've seen 😢
I agree... that last scene was more impactful than ANYTHING in the previous episode, including the funeral. There are two scenes that make me cry every time I watch Smallville... this one and the scene where young Lex is at his birthday party and no one shows up.
This is Tom’s single greatest performance of the entire series. The ending makes me cry every time.
wow high praise. love it
Jonathan waiving bye in the final scene had me sobbing 😭 No matter how many times I see it! perfect performances by Tom/Annette, so raw and honest, could see everything they were feeling in that moment, and felt it along w them 💔
Same here, still makes me cry. It felt so real and then with Jonathan's video in the end...
On top of how sad and emotional that scene is, Jonathan at some point says he will show Clark the Back 40 because it will be his one day. The land that he ended up selling to pay back Lionel.
Lionel does refuse the money here, but Jonathan died knowing that he could no longer keep that promise for Clark. Just heart wrenching.
Every time I rewatch it, it gets me. Now I've lost both of my parents in the past 2 years, it resonates even more.
Tom, "I was distracted by this scene because I really liked how my hair was" 😂
YESSS lol I actually said outloud last night how cute the cut was! 😅😂
sidenote: Tom's Hair also looks great in today's podcast too 😂
show stopping hair this week
@@TalkVillePodcast 😂
@@asyouwish3636 They should do a rating on Clark's hair in every episode! 😉 LOL
8p@@asyouwish3636
The last scene is one of the best, most perfectly executed scenes in all of Smallville. Brings tears to my eyes every time.
Superman and Lois first 2 episodes was filled with emotion
amen
To this day.
The message of this episode, in my opinion, was to show Clark what going too far is like and having to have Clark realize there is always a better way. And that grief is no justification for murder. Another way of looking at it is now that Jonathan Kent was gone, it was an ultimate test for Clark to hold onto his father's ideals, or to let go and fall into despair.
Good thougt.
ahhh good stuff, thanks Orange Hat
@@OrangeHatReviews Very good assessment of the deeper meanings of this episode. 👍
The final scene with Clark and Martha carried the whole episode and was performed to perfection🤩
Tom and Annette delivered such raw and honest emotions you can't help but sob! 😭💔
agreed pal
My favorite parts of this episode were the last 2 scenes from Lana's beautiful gesture of finding Jonathan's watch and giving it back to Clark and making him wear it (when in the beginning of this episode he couldn't do it), her supportive words to the final scene between Martha and Clark watching that old video of Jonathan & Clark. Clark finally letting all out crying in his mom's arms, this was really moving.
Yes, those were both beautiful moments.
When Jonathan calls little Clark the man of steel the tears start and by the time he's bye bye I'm a mess. Gets me everytime
they had so many great connections to the comics in this ep but yeah when he says that it really gets you! 😢
It was beautiful and so sad!
Yay! No cap! Release the hair Tom!!!!!! 🧢🧢🧢🧢😍😍
Funny we are amazed when he doesn't wear one! 😂
😂😂
@@melcee22 It's always a special day when Tom goes capless!
@@heatherrosetarot we should celebrate 🎉😂
@@latifahraleb2137 Yes! 👍🧑🏻🥂🎉 LOL!
That ending was really one of the best and most poignant endings in Smallville. Beautifully acted with Anette, Tom, and Jonathan's video and it was amazingly filmed. It felt so real and still makes my sob.
yeah that ending killed me lol and it was so perfect 😭 like the ep was fine, but that final scene was excellent. I almost felt like it was filmed separately and this was the best place to put it, which really works in the whole ep ❤️💔
Another good episode. Again for me the ending with Clark and Martha watching the video of Jonathan with young Clark on the tractor saying goodbye with Clark crying and Martha embracing him always gets me. That shot of Clark with the watch he is wearing on his right arm is beautiful. The song playing in the end as the scene ends makes it so real. Just everything about that scene hits home so perfectly.
If that made u cry just watch the first 2 episodes of Superman and Lois man filled with so much emotion
Whenever I see the ending scene and Clark is just letting his grief out, I always think of the contrast between it and Ryan’s death in Season 2, where Clark was grieving him but never let it out, and to losing Pete and Alicia.
The fact that Clark just broke down at the end of Vengeance is a testament to Tom’s acting. We get to see how much Jonathan meant to Clark and how much he is hurting.
Nicely done Mr. Welling.
Tom already got me laughing by repeating " yes and?" 😂
yes AND?!
30:55 John 3:8
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.””
Tom and Annette crushed that ending scene ❤🥺 Such an emotional moment ❤
Tom, don’t worry about the “missed beat” you think should have occurred when Lionel calls you son. It’s being saved for the episode “Mercy”. The tension and hubris of L.L. calling you son is beautifully played between you two at the end of “Mercy”. It’s one of my favorites. You are just excellent in it. You are quietly threatening with the perfect amount of menace telling Lionel to back off with the “son” shitck. 😊
That ending gets me every time to this day it was beautifully shot and acted....WELL DONE TOM WELLING and Annette 👏👏👏👏👏
Just wanted to say that I am a huge fan of the podcast and the show. I am 22 years old, born in 2002, so I was not even on this earth when the show started. I recently discovered Smallville and it's a great show until the day. Thank you guys for doing this. Both look more handsome now BTW!!! Greetings from Argentina!
The time on the watch of "3:08" is a reference to Action Comics #1 which debuted in 1938 and featured the first appearance of Superman.
"The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." - John 3:8
Thank you good sir ❤️
🌹🌹Great podcast today! loved Tom's BTS appreciate all the production details but really great that there's more deep diving into the storylines and character motivations. Please keep increasing that as the series continues! ❤ great B-roll too thanks Bryce!
sidenote: would have loved for Michael to keep up the passion and seriousness he brought to last week's podcast. I know this ep doesn't have a lot of Lex in it but it is really nice when he isn't goofing off and he pays attention to the re-watch 🫤
Yeah, I love hearing information from behind the scenes! I also like hearing all of their insights into the episodes, especially Tom often has a lot great thoughts on them.
@lilacmist04 yeah I'm really hoping now that we've done the 1st few seasons and gotten the episodic stuff covered they focus more and deeper into the storylines. really wanna dive more into the character choices cuz the rest of S5 and S6 are the most consequential for the rest of the series!
Terrific acting in this one, Annette and Tom's especially! Loved the scene between them at the beginning along with the incredibly emotional ending (I shed a few tears). I also loved how Lana found Jonathan's watch and gave it back to Clark, Kristin and Tom did a wonderful job with that scene. Found the scene between Clark robbing Chloe really funny, great dynamic. Thanks again guys ❤️
As a Batgirl fan, i loved this episode. It really showed the darkness that Clark was fighting because of his guilt over his fathers death.
One of the most beautiful last scenes in the whole series. I cry every time I see it. Wonderfully shot and beautifully acted. ❤
2:01 I recently watched a video about the process of becoming a father. He said it's scary, but not like a flood but like a trickle, it's a process, it happens slowly and if you take care of each new demand that arises, realizing its challenges and achievements, everything will be fine! But if you are not active in this, the process takes over and runs over you! I think it works for both pet parents and human twins! It may not be about being prepared beforehand, but letting yourself be prepared during! Good luck to Bryce!
That last scene is the most beautiful and heartbreaking in the whole show…Jonathan talking about clark owning the back 40 one day which he ended up selling to pay for the campaign in the previous episode and that final goodbye before Clark bursts into tears…everything about it was so beautifully done. Tom that performance was unbelievable 👏💔
Tom's hair 🔥
Another beautiful Talkville Wednesday! Thanks guys for always powering through!!❤
I actually looked up John 3:08 because he put the bug in my head. 😂 I can’t help but think it’s a little fitting…
NIV John 3:08 - “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.
One thing I heard a lot when I used to go to church is that time is like a vapor, so I like the small touch of symbolism, intentional or otherwise. ❤
The "don't call me son" line (or a variation of it) is coming
That’s what I was thinking! Love that they waited!
Seemed like Clark was mentally exhausted to care in this episode. I liked it!
Love that Clark keeps hanging out at the Daily Planet with Chloe. Just so cool to see him walk around there before he actually works there. It’s such a smooth way to have Clark become a reporter someday.
First it was the Torch with Chloe and now Daily Planet.
Also, props to the way the office looks. Smallville in so many ways looks better than all Superman shows and movies in general.
This episode has Tom Welling's best cry. He absolutely nails it at the end.
Sometimes when I get behind on life I get behind on watching video series that I like, except Talkville. It is just that fun.
For me the character of Andrea was a combination of Bat Girl and Super Girl. One of the most powerful lines was when Martha and Chole were talking about Clark needing to let his anger out. When Lionel puts his hand on Clark’s shoulders and calls him son shows to me that maybe Lionel cares more about Clark than Lex. The ending scene had me in tears and I thought that it was clever to end the episode on Jonathan saying goodbye. Plus you could see the watch and the mention of the back 40 was nice.
Tom - the last scene. The emotions were so authentic. Some of the best 'crying' I've seen on tv/the big screen. Brilliant!
When Johnathan says in the video "He's a man of steel!" I cry. no resistance. I'm freaking crying just typing this. damn smallville.. all the greatness
"What was it he said, son? I have returned." Can't belive you brushed off one of the greatest scenes of Smallville.
"I hope you enjoyed your stay. Sorry it was so short."
Smallville does a really good job with having Clark blame himself when his father dies. And it’s a struggle that Clark goes through over the years leading to him becoming Superman. Other Superman shows and movies don’t really cover that part of Clark’s life.
Cap-Less Tom ROCKS! Tom delivers one of the most powerful performances as Clark in "Vengeance", so grateful the guys kept this episode among the Roses! Every scene is filled with so much feeling and passion, and it's nice to learn that the video actually plays in the epic emotional ending scene. Awesome shout-out from Tom about Clark's hair in the rooftop scene. Season Five Clark's hair is G.O.A.T!
It's always lovely to hear stories about Jeannot! Fingers crossed you guys will have him on the podcast soon! Thanks for the very interesting things of note.
Glad the first Smallville Con is a huge success! Can't wait to watch Mafia Wars soon! #SmallvilleForever
I wasn't able to go to the con this weekend 😢💔 shame cuz I've been hoping for an all Smallville-centered con since i discovered the podcast last year! 💔
@@asyouwish3636 I hope you get to meet the guys somewhere soon!
Hearing my hometown of Mchenry IL be mentioned on my favorite podcast about my favorite show was surreal AF.
Having listened to commentary from Jeannot Szwarc, I do have to say I love his accent! And Michael imitating it is honestly just great! Love it!
John 3:8 says, "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit".
Makes me think of the song “Dust In the Wind”.
Love how Lana took it apon herself to search every pawn shop in Metropolis for Jonathan's watch. That was such a incredible thing she did. I actually liked her and Lex's conversation about how Clark was holding up, with how Lana says that she just wanted to be there for him. And Lex responds that he's very lucky to have you in his life Lana. That always sounded so genuine coming from Lex and showed he still cared a lot for Clark. Great to see.😀😀😀😀🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤
yeah tbh at this point on my 1st watch I didn't care for Lana anymore (exhausted from her and that was b4 the fiasco of character choices in S6!) but yes that was actually really wonderful and it was too downplayed! up until last night I had even forgotten how he got it back - I was thinking Andrea ended up finding it for him or something. esp since that watch was so impactful (I mean they end up making a big deal of it in S9) but the Lana relationship was also under utilized this whole season so far. they spent so much effort building to the 100th and Clark's choices when he goes back in time that they loose focus on the aftermath. I think they pick it up later after the break up w Lana's reckless behavior.
Smallville came out exactly when I started High school and I loved it. And to be honest, some of the lessons that Johnathan was giving to Clark that can be relatable to real life, I actually took it to heart that in a way he was pretty much my "TV Dad" or Father figure on tv.
When they killed him off and they showed the home movie at the end of this episode and when he said goodbye (mind you I was in my first year in college)... It was a punch in the gut and I was super sad that I had tears running down my face. It was that episode, I kinda drifted from watching Smallville on a regular to whenever I feel like an episode was interesting based off commercials lol. But yeah, super sad.
Hi guys!
Loved the episode! Mom especially loved the last scene between Clark and Martha. I can’t write much in todays podcast as I have a family emergency 🚨 and could really use the prayers. I don’t know if I will comment much next weeks podcast either.
Love the episode. 3 roses 🌹 for me. Prayers are appreciated from all and thank you. 🙏
Congrats on the Creation Con for Smallville! It’s about time. Supernatural cast gets a lot of that attention so I’m happy that Smallville is getting recognition. I hope creation can put together future ones so Jensen can maybe “crash,” the panel lol 😂
hoping for the best Claire. love
The last scene is so sad. Tom's performance is so good. Great analysis of the episode as always. I enjoyed it.
A T-shirt with Lionel Luther’s journal entry would be hilarious! I laughed throughout this episode just thinking about that comment. Very unassuming, very silly.
Last scene of the episode gets me everytime😭
The closing scene was etched in my brain when this first aired and it has even more resonance now that I've been through that very thing in real life. Glad it's getting its due in this rewatch.
This is a good episode. The way the angel of vengeance was behaving in the daily planet is the footprint of future Clark Kent in metropolis.
LoL,Michael, sounds like you REALLY LOVE TO WATCH these shows,if you got anymore excited about it I think you couldn't contain yourself 😂😂😂😂
I cried at the end of this episode!! Breaks my heart for Martha and Clark!
The ending for this one is one of my favorites of the series. Absolutely crushing
Yes, late. I know. My apologies.

Was about to say, let's not even joke with that. That last scene justified the entire episode.
27:00 - Michael, how is it hard to remember the name of the only righteous Batman voice ever, especially since you had to work with him during _Justice League: Unlimited_ and _Justice League: Doom?_ For shame, dude!
1:10 Like Skynet, Michael has become fully self-aware. Looking forward to Seasons 8-10 when it'll be hosted by Tom and Michael occasionally calling in (both figuratively and literally). 😄😬
Heartbreaking end of episode where i cried again 💔😢 Great scenes between Lex and Lionel, despite their harshness ❤❤ and wonderful Annette/ Martha 💝💝 TalkVille 👍
I belive this episode is about the grief after the loss of someone close to you, and how you deal with that on a daily basis before accepting the grief and let the tears go out. The final scene is a reflection of that, Clark finally letting go, and Martha only needed to look at his son's face to know he needs to be hold because he's about to accept his grief while watching a footage of Jonathan. All Clark needed was a hug in the right moment to let go, and he did. Crying on Martha's shoulder was so heartbreaking and touching. That's what this eisode was really about
6:18
There we go, let's get into the episode 👏🏼
This episode was so sad at the end. I know it brought me down to tears the first time I saw it, and everytime I see it I can’t help but feeling sad about Mr. kent’s death and Clark’s sadness.
That scene was magnificent, can't stop sobbing.
Although this is by no means a top 20 episodes in my list, it is really a lore inducing episode, as it portrays the difference between being a masked vigilante (a topic that gets tackled in further season) and an actual hero, without masks as Clark is meant to become.
It also touches right and wrong, holding on feelings, guilt, regret, grief, and kind of inspirational for Clark, in the sense of "oh, glasses and a reporter, I wonder..."
One more thing - thanks for sharing the Smallville Nights photo from the Con at the beginning of this podcast. I was there, and I was surprised that I didn't notice myself or my husband. I think I was the only one there with bright red hair. LOL. I wasn't that many rows back, but I had to sit way at the end of an row stage left, because I was carrying a heavy art project I just got signed. It was truly EPIC though - I can't believe I was there for those surprise guests and the particular scenes reenacted. I can't express how much we loved it! Thank you Tom and Michael! ❤ The Con was great too!
oh wow that's awesome! I'm crushed that I was unable to make it (lol I've been shipping a Smallville only convention since I discovered Talkville a year ago) I hope once we catch up to it they will talk about it on the podcast!
@@asyouwish3636 I hope they do too! ❤️
Love the podcast guys! 🫶🏻
That ending was brilliant. Emotional every time I watch it. Just a shame that the rest of the episode was forgettable.
The scene at the end makes me cry every time. Tom’s and Annette’s performances are so good.
I had such a crush on John Schneider as a kid. Also, my dad died 6 yrs before this episode (when I was 22), so I remember it very well. I cried my mascara off, especially when she was getting rid of the clothes. I still have his jacket.
I’ve not met anyone to this day that hasn’t teared up to this final scene of vengeance.
This episode had some fun nods to future Superman tropes, but it really showed a darker path Clark could take if he didn't hold onto his morals. It was a good follow up episode to Reckoning with Clark dealing with his anger and grief. It had great moments with Martha and Chloe too. And Lex and Lionel. I also loved that Lana got Jonathan's watch back for Clark. She was a great support for Clark here.
5:06!!! Thanks guys 💙❤️🤘
Very good episode and it was good see dark and upset of clark out for payback and gild over his dad .
The ending of this episode was emotional
Great podcast guys
🌹🌹
"Vengeance"
This episode will always be remembered for Tom Welling and Annette O'Toole's heartwrenching piece of acting that simply brought raw emotions to their scenes, I mean very rarely does a show hit you in the feels like this. The last scene in particular by my own admission brought me to tears. Personally, I have nothing to compare it to but the acting here is just phenomenal, from the pain and anger of letting go at the beginning, to the tearful, warm embrace at the end, it was simply beautiful.
And then you sprinkle all that with the proverbial Luthor chess game as a more villainous Lex probably for the first time gains the upper hand over his father in the battle for power and control of Luthorcorp. Lex found Lionel's weakness and it's Martha Kent, if not the truth about that fateful night.
I talked with Tom on a video chat and I asked about this crying scene. I asked what he thought of and, appropriately enough, he said "John Schneider". Wow! They had a close relationship and Jonathan left as a regular of course at this point. That scene moves me every time I watch it.
Man, rewatching this was tough. My dad died of heart disease when I was 17 and it was just me and mum left in the house. Heartbreaking feeling those same emotions as when I watched this back in the day as a kid!
37:54 I think that’s a fantastic question & I couldn’t agree more.
Tom and Michael, you guys rock. My wife absolutely loves watching you guys....This is so awesome! I'll be 44 on October 24, and I loved Smallville when it was released and have watched it all the way through a dozen times. My daughter is 16, and we started episode 1 about an hour ago. Now watching metamorphosis ❤
17:18 wouldn’t the theme of the episode simply be how Clark, with all his power, learns how to healthily process grief without raging on the masses, as he could easily do?
Tom your hair looks good!! I loved your hair when you were on red Krytonite! The curls!!!
I think this episode deserves more praise than what it gets just because it follows the highly rated Reckoning. It touches on the subject of grief exceptionally well and how Clark and Martha handle the loss of Jonathan. I think having Andrea as a character to play off of Clark’s grief with her own was important. If she wasn’t there to be the voice that urged him to kill that thief, he might not have come to his senses in time. What I mean by that is if he had found the guy by himself and gone after him exactly the same, but perhaps might not have come out of his anger in time and let go without a voice there telling him that guy deserves to die. Clark may have caused some inadvertent deaths in the show but he’s no killer. And he knew that in his heart, he knew Jonathan wouldn’t have wanted him to turn into a killer out of grief for his death. It was the step necessary that made Clark realise that despite his grief, despite his anger, he cannot and must not lose control and that he’s not there to be judge, jury and executioner. Whilst the ending scene is arguably the best and most impactful scene of the episode, it gets me going too, there’s plenty of other scenes and moments that also leave just as big of an impact, particularly the scene I just talked about. The anguish on Clark’s face as he strangles that guy made me feel for Clark so much, it was just so well played and executed. Which leads me to agreeing with everyone on Tom’s performance, it truly was top notch here especially.
Also, I’m glad Tom pointed out that he wished Clark had said to Lionel I’m not your son, because my reaction when he calls Clark that made me angry and for Clark to not say anything was rather frustrating. Thankfully, there’s an episode later on where Lionel calls Clark “son” again and that time Clark corrects him. Otherwise, this is a three rose episode for me!
Michael: Say red blue blur five times. It's hard.
Me: That's what she said.
LMAO! Perfect response...😂
I have that "the Office" quote as my notification sound on my phone. LOL.
"The Office" is my other comfort show. Let's just say that I had to turn that notification off when I went to the recent Smallville Con. LOL
@@heatherrosetarot Thanks. Glad that it made you laugh.
This is among one of my favorite episodes by far.
I admit going back to this episode I had it on in the background, the patrons talking about Tom's performance convinced me to take a closer look at the end. Just before Clark breaks down completely, when it's only a single tear falling, Tom reminded me of Tobey's energy the day Peter graduates high school and is missing Uncle Ben. It's a tremendous amount of gravitas in a small gesture, and one of those details that makes the rewatch impactful
After more than a month of binge-watching, I have finally caught up!
The final moment of Martha watching the video of Jonathan and Clark walking in as she notices he is wearing the watch, as she comes over to him and he just breaks down is just so moving. I remember getting quite emotional watching it. As it was shortly a few months after I had lost my grandfather Harold. Truly felt similar to and for Clark in this moment. 🙏🙏
The best show, you marked my childhood. Thanks for everything, hugs from Brazil.
I see Michael saying something is ridiculous about the scenes in Smallville. Meanwhile, he has a Jersey Shore haircut and a book called The Talented Farter. It doesn't really fit. One should keep in mind the year of these episodes. Lois and Clark is pretty hard to watch from 1993 as well, it was good for the time. These episodes aren't nearly as bad.
I love the fact that we get to see another production with Tom - Mafia Wars. I am going to watch that movie for sure 👌. And please, do more ;)
35:01 You're welcome Michael. I already had your light made awhile ago. I just needed to drive a thousand miles to New Jersey to give it to you. Also, thanks for you and Ryan for taking a selfie with me real quick. If you have any issues with the light. Let me know, and I will make you another one.
That's so sweet that you made that for them! ❤ Great job on that
@heatherrosetarot Thank you! A lot of hours developing the files and printing. The entire cast was given one at the event. I hope they enjoy them.
@@Imthebestest1984 I'm sure they will! ❤️ I feel bad about not bringing extra things I made, to give to them. I brought a project I made instead.
@@heatherrosetarot You should have brought it! It would have been awesome.
@@Imthebestest1984 Well, I brought a project that I got Tom and Erica to see and sign. It took up 1/2 the space in my luggage. LOL. It was something I put a lot of time and energy into. I made a whole Diorama scene (put inside a decorated acrylic case) that connected the Smallville show/universe we know to the crisis Cameo scene. I just wish I would've been allowed more time to explain the project and what the show meant to me this past year (went through some traumatic stuff.) I have an art and Graphic Design background, and it was the first big project I did in about 15 years. It was a big deal for me personally, to accomplish that.
Ryan, this is what john 3:8 says.
The wind blows where it wishes and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it is coming from and where it is going; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Just thought I'd share.
Great episode. Great show in general.....this show was my escape as a teen. This is cool to hear the behind the scenes of each episode. And what went into it. 😊
I figured the 308 on the watch is a reference to comics so I looked it up. Superman (Vol. 1) #308 is about Superman fighting two mutant villains, Radion and Protector, while dealing with the false realization that he too is a mutant Earthling and that Krypton "never existed".
I also looked up Action Comics 308. Superman meets Hercules and Supergirl finds a girl with Kryptonian powers after eating food from her ship.
42:00 we missed an opportunity to do "RYANS-SECOND-FAVORITE-SCENE" because the first favorite was so overwhelming
Last scene literally shattered me. It's been many years since i cried watching a show. I don't think I've even been this sad over a fictional scene ever before. I didn't even cry during the funeral but when i saw clark's reaction to watching Jonathan's video 😭😭😭 KNIFE to the heart. I still avoid it to this day 😂😂😂 but it was so perfect. The music, the performance, and how they made Jonathan say his final goodbye 😭
Please for the love of everything that is sacred can someone find out which song is used for the last scene of this episode? Also, I don't normally cry watching TV, but this episode hit me like a train. Amazing job all around
hmm, there's a way to find out on IMDB. I liked it too, and the juxtaposition of the weight of the scene against the lighthearted beat works really well
If I've got the right song, it's called "Goodbye Jonathan" by Mark Snow (Smallville's music composer for the first 7 seasons). Below is a link to the music.

@AHIMSA369 oh wait were you asking about the score? or the song
@@asyouwish3636 yes! I mean it's the instrumental version at the very end when Clark is watching the video (I don't know if it's a song or score) thank you for the help 🙏🏻
@@jasminemagee410 thank you very very much I'll check it out 🙏🏻
Thank you Tom for saying that you enjoy certain scenes, even if it is your gorgeous hair. You were amazing and made Smallville the success that it still is today. I really feel that if Michael tried he could find something to like.
Two actors from Smallville (other appeared in season 6) went on to appear in the pilot episode of Justin Harley's Aquaman pilot show "Mercy Reef". Annette O' Toole did the dubbing for Atlanta. Adrienne Palicki who played fake Kara in season 3 finale appeared as Siren.
Great episode, guys. Also, I just wanted to say I'm very excited to hear this "True Noir" project. Definitely seems to be such a passion project for Robert Meyer Burrnett. With all the talent involved with this I feel that this is going to be absolutely killer Michael. I'm 40 and have always been into the old radio shows of the past. So this is right up my alley.
21:02 Clark didn't react to being seen by Lionel, it was as if there had been some previous scene in which the secret had already been shared. I wondered if I had forgotten a scene!
I think technically Lionel doesn't definitively see Clark super-speed. He was distracted by Andrea and by trying not to fall. so while we know Lionel already knows at this point, Lionel can pretend to not know if he did in fact see it. i think that's why the writers had Clark catch him b4 he goes out the window, cuz had he actually fallen that would have been trickier to make him not see it was Clark who saves him
One of the best and most memorable scenes in smallville that cuts so deep. They did well throwing us off the entire episode thinking "huh, isn't Clark going to breakdown or majority of the episode going to be about Jonathan who just died?! Instead of this vigilante". They throw a curve ball for the majority then right at the end that beautiful, beautiful scene, Tom's facial expressions and subtle changes from nostalgic to never going to see my dad again and breaking down when Jonanthan's on the tv saying bye. When this aired my god, men will cry. Man of steel still feels. You felt all the emotions through the screen.
This episode was great at showing how Metropolis looks like Gotham, it shows a pre Superman state. Also the last scene with Jonathan saying goodbye brings me to tears 😭
Wonderful podcast as always. This episode has the best scene ever at the end with Annette’s and Tom’s awesome performance! I get every time tears in my eyes when I’m watching. That is was good entertaining can be to get to your soul. RF-AHOTS! 🖖💖
