      Also, they had input that elevated their characters. I know Annette did an interview (can't remember where) where she voiced her frustration when Pete left because she felt that her character would have taken in Pete, I feel that too but I guess the directors didn't want to go that route, and wanted to get rid of Pete for whatever reason.

    Getting into some good episodes! John Schneider was one of my favorite parts of the show. He really embodies the father figure everyone needs. Masculine, leader, loving, caring, patient, and a protector. I always thought he was the best father figure on any show I’ve ever watched. His pride and anger though showed that any great person can still struggle and be overcome if not careful.

    • @spencergsmith
      @spencergsmith 2 роки тому +32

      @@danielocean3699 quite the contrary, MANY people know that Superman is not boring. However, it's the constant push to make him "edgy" or "modern" that makes him appear this way. I suggest you read more Superman comics, such as "All-Star Superman," "Superman: Birthright," "Superman for All Seasons," or elseworlds storylines like "The Nail" or "Red Son" for an idea of WHY this is a compelling concept. My personal favorite single issue of all time, Action Comics #775 "What's so Funny about Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" is a PERFECT example of why Superman is still relevant. Superman is NOT boring, he's the exact character we need to remind us that wholesome, upright heroes are still relevant and interesting, but people keep trying to turn him into something he's not.

    • @donutchoppaz
      @donutchoppaz 2 роки тому +4

      @@lukeevans9505 Let’s not disregard Mr Dances with Wolves himself. Different iterations deserve different respects. Costner was excellent with what he was given. It was a “real world approach” to that character. Different settings, different circumstances. He was stern, fair, patient, and loving to which he ultimately instilled in his son. Both in his life and in his death. Take for instance at the moments without dialogue. Just the use of eyes and body language. Specifically when Clark was a child. Jonathan was in awe of Clark. Bewildered and astonished by the ideas of what he can become. Like any rational parent, Jonathan was ultimately fearful of the world and what it might do to his son. He chose to die for his son because of that fear. That fear even haunts Clark throughout the story hence why Jonathan appears as an apparition. Constantly guiding, encouraging and warning him. We must also take into account Jonathan in the DCEU is limited, brief and plenty has been left unexplored. We’ve had a few minutes of screen time with Costner. We’ve had 4 years with Schneider. We can’t fully compare and contrast yet.

    This episode was the first episode that explored Clark without his powers. A very classic trop that happens in comic book properties where the hero powers get transferred temporarily to another who doesn’t have the moral sense to use his powers for the good of humanity. Once again this show highlights how essential The Kent’s are to Clark’s development into what makes Superman such a beacon of hope and Purity. Jonathan imparts wisdom to his son that it’s not his powers that makes him special it’s him. I like how Lex sorted gets hoodwinked into believing he’s finally figured out Clark’s secret only to see first hand Clark is mortal and can bleed.

They got a terrible Lex Luthor and a gorgeous Lois, beyond that, he just couldn't bounce back properly with a great villain ala Glover and Rosey in Smallville. It was also much lighter.

I could just sit here and listen and soak up all the nostalgia you guys ooze out for hours, and you can tell that when all together you guys could just go on for days.. it's truly refreshing and beautiful to see. Thanks Rosey yet again for another great Wednesday podcast.

    This episode gets 3 Roses from me! One of my favorites. Lex-"I plan on being great all by myself" 32:50 It showed Lex's big brain. Jonathan-"Seeing how destructive Eric got, just reminds me of how special you really are." 38:40 and it showed Clark always does the right thing, without powers, (and even harder to do) with powers. time stamps are for the quotes in the Smallville episode

    There’s an episode in season 9 or 10 I think that has an alternate universe where Clark was raised by Lionel! He is a jerk to say the least lol. It was an amazing testament to how big part the Kents were to Clark being who he became. I loved John as a guest. I can’t wait to see him back! I give this one two 🌹 I love the episodes where Clark is normal or he isn’t his usual self. I enjoy Tom’s nuanced performance choices in those episodes, like how Lana says he seems different and he doesn’t have the weight of the world on his shoulders, you could see it! Tom was great there. The 00s soundtrack was amazing this episode, so many trips down memory lane.

    This really was a good episode. You had Clark without powers, being conflicted between relief and not being able to shake his sense of responsibility. You had a cunning Lex moment when he was able to hand the Hardwick's their asses. You had that compelling story of what if someone with Clark's powers wasn't raised by people as noble as the Kent's. The performances all around were great too, glad you guys used that clip of the initial shock and fear Clark went through when he realized his powers were gone. Welling rocked that moment.

To see the mutual respect and adoration you have for one another is heartwarming; it’s no wonder Smallville was / is such a success. What a delightful podcast today, LOVED special guest John Schneider! Wow...I could listen to John talk all day, so much wisdom, such lovely comments, can't wait to see him as a special guest again. The Ashmore twins are awesome, I had to pinch myself (again...as I always do when an actor from my most favourite show EVER makes the effort to travel halfway across the world to little ol' Perth Western Australia) when I met Aaron at an Oz Comic con. So much fun, excited for Jimmy episodes in the future. Shawn was great in Leech especially showcasing what HE would do with Clark's powers, he looked great doing it, especially with a pumping soundtrack backing him up. Love and appreciate you guys doing this podcast and I love how you love saying our names at the end...love hearing it! (SO MUCH LOVE!! )

    This is such a great episode! I love the dynamic between Clark and his father. It was always such a highlight of the show. It was so lovely having John Schneider on this episode. He's the best Jonathan Kent I've seen. He embodied the fatherly love so well and his scenes with Clark were some of my favourites in the whole show. Always so touching.
    It was so cute when Tom was like "hi dad!" Haha. It's clear you guys all get along really well. Can't wait to see him back again.

    Ok this might be my fave episode (besides the pilot) because we finally get a “what if” clark was normal (for a majority of the episode) but at a cost. Those same powers that Clark has always been reluctant to have and made him feel alienated- have corrupted the other boy who happened to pick them up. It really shows it’s how you use the powers rather then having powers itself that shows how a hero and who isn’t.
    And shoutout to Clark parents who are the true reason Clark despite having powers could grow up normal and still love him even if he lost them forever (unlike certain parents on the show cough cough)

    Aww Ryan, I am so glad you are also there!🙃 What a wonderful episode of Smallville, and what a great episode of Talk Ville, I loved this one, and it was so wonderful to see John Schneider, I can't wait to see him come back and talk some more. I loved hearing him talk about how characters in a scene should be continuing to act, telling their own story, regardless of what the main character is doing, it just makes everything so much more relatable and real. I loved the ideas around how parenting influences how a character reacts to the responsibility of having powers, and how Clark was having to deal with potentially being normal, it must have been really disorientating for him. I thought the conversation about Victoria was also really interesting, the bit with the photos was a bit weird and creepy. I wonder if that kind of female character would be written slightly differently if the show were being made today, like she would have been capable of trying to screw Lex over with more than just tits and ass, so she still would have slept with him, but maybe would have had a bit more imagination, instead of just sleeping with his dad... I know if I want to screw someone over, sleeping with their dad isn't usually on the top of my list 🤣. Loved Shawn Ashmore, it is great to hear you guys say what a great job he did, I think he is great in everything he does (definitely him) and I'm not sure he gets enough credit generally out there in the world. I really enjoyed this one, I'm with Ryan, 🌹🌹. Thank you Rosey, Tom, Ryan and John! ❤
