Smallville features the story of Clark Kent in the town of Smallville, Kansas, where he learns more about his Kryptonian heritage and what it means to be a hero of Earth. Throughout his journey, he encounters notable Justice League members and heroes from DC Comics, like Impulse, who serves as a stand-in for The Flash, as well as Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Zatanna, and many others. The show laid the foundation for future CW Arrowverse shows like The Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, and Stargirl, just to name a few. Smallville: Season Eleven is the sequel comic that showcases Smallville's Clark Kent as Superman, taking place six months after the series finale. It explores the show's iterations of characters like Batman, Nightwing, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman.

My only problem is they keep advertising “ it’s before Clark becomes Superman”. But he faces literally all his villains
Yeah, that bugged the heck out of me. Doomsday? Zod? Darkseid? Really?
@@_Irrelevant yeah. He fights basically his entire rogues gallery plus JL gallery as well
same reason I didn't like Gotham. By the time Bruce gets a Robin, they're gonna be fighting senior citizens.
@@Feedback72 here’s my thing. Smallville could’ve been Clark as superboy fighting new or like golden age villains then realized he’s not ready and goes off to train for a few years then Superman. Same with Bruce. He can have Alfred train him who’s a former mi6 or whatever try and be a vigilante face c listers or new villains then when it doesn’t work he leaves. That would be so much better imo
ye that statement only holds true pre graduation Smallville, but I guess you can also make a case that Clark doesn't become "Superman" to the world UNTIL he puts on the cape in the finale episode of the show. for us he was always superman but in universe it took some time hence 'the before Clark becomes superman'

FINALLY someone said it! The love triangles, the Lana drama, constant memory wipes and the prolonging Clark becoming Superman for 10 long damn years
I saw it recently and I thought that Lana was decent in the first 4 to 5 seasons but I feel like she overstayed her welcome I was very happy that when she got infected with Kryptonnite Clark couldn’t go near her Everything was almost perfect but Lana and the CGIs are the only Flaw in the show
@@brickzoneanimations8395I actually hated that they infected her with Kryptonite. They shouldn’t have brought her back at all but that whole storyline was dumb. Them breaking up should have been their choice. It makes Clark seem like he’s only with Lois because he physically can’t be with Lana. If they just chose not to be together, his relationship with Lois wouldn’t feel that way since he can be with Lana but he’s choosing Lois.
Bro Smallville is the best DC TV series

Jonathon Kent was great but he was such a prick to Lex in the early scene. It was hilarious how over the top hating he was on the kid.
I mean that’s the best part is that he’s not a perfect person and his mistakes and anger even reflect in Clark but at he core he’s still a good person
To be fair lex was in his 20s while Clark was 14 and he was tryna hang out with his son
@@03Piiyeah they were only 7 years apart but that was kind of strange.
It made me dislike him. Like damn, judge him off his own merits. Lol
Not gonna lie, he had us in the first half. 👍
I’m still pissed that Crisis on Infinite Earths ruined his 10 year character arc 😢
That hurt me, I spent 10 seasons watching him grow into THAT GUY, all for him to regress and give up his powers again! The thing is, I wouldn't even be so mad about it if we AT LEAST at the VERY LEAST got to see his version of Clark Kent fully. Don the red, blue, and yellow.
@@tabaributler2225 I dunno... I felt like if there was a universe in which Clark could retire it would be the Smallville universe. The whole thing in the show was that he wasn't just a hero, he was a hero who inspired heroes. That universe was full of them because of Clark and who he is. Clark created an age of heroes throughout the entire show and if we're being honest, they probably told him to retire because of all the work he had already done. Plus you just know that they'll always use Clark as a moral sounding board.
@@KalaMshana that's why I said I wouldn't be so mad about it if we had at least gotten to see him actually be Superman before or for one last time. I liked the ending to Smallville but for them to just bring him back as a small cameo, felt kinda off for one.
@@tabaributler2225go read the comics. They continued the show. Being retired fit just fine
We all know that isn't our Clark.
I’ve always said that if you think Superman is a boring character you just exposed that you never watched smallville
I don’t consider Superman boring but even I thought the first half of this show worthless. It was only getting good after Season 5 or 6. Things are subjective to the individual and not absolute.
He isn’t Superman in that show. People that say Superman usually mean that an all-capable character is boring. This is why the best Superman story is All Star Superman where he’s dying and losing his powers gradually IMO
Picture this; live action Batman Beyond that has the same character development, "grounding," and high school drama (that works) of Smallville
Me before the video: I’m coming to your house👀🔫
Me after the video: I’m a goddamn idiot 😅🥲
If you weren't old enough to watch Smallville live, one thing you're missing is how rabid the fan base was on line at the time. Those people were just savage. Especially the shippers ( lookin' at you, Clark/Chloe fanatics) , say the wrong thing and some of those folks would track you down and set fire to your house.
Oh I remember it! Holy cats! I was in middle/high school throughout Clark's high school years and was leaving high school by Season 8 but I was there in the heart of the online mania, hooo man. Superman fans like me PALED in comparison to the girl shippers. My goodness.
*Save Me by Remy Zero intensifies*
Smallville was definitely a great DC series about Clark's journey to becoming Superman.
as for the infinite earths cross over cameo, I feel like Smallville Clark would only give up his powers if it meant saving the world, it's not something he'd ever do for himself. if anything, having children would give him more of a reason to continue to be a hero because he knows his kids will inherit his powers and he needs to set that example and protect them.
You know, for better or worse, this show would open the gates for every single DC show on the CW. In fact, we wouldn't have Arrow because of this show because Arrow was supposed to be a spin-off of Smallville.
DC CW show. Starts with superman (smallville) and probably ending with Superman (superman and Lois yes it was adopted by HBO)
Smallville walked so DCEU could run……. And they still messed up😭
8:05 Honestly I don’t think that’s a hot take. Smallville Oliver is the GOAT!
You should also have talked about Lionel Luthor aa in the beginning of the series he was definitely a villain but after that one episode with Clark in season 4 and then he became infected by Jor El's IA made he change his ways somewhat, thinking about it now I think he was more close to Lex in the end of All Star Superman when lex got the same powers as superman and started seeing the world in a complete different light, but here Lionel is always hunted by his past and what he did. It's somewhat sad that when he died, and even after Clark discovered how Jonathan died, Clark himself still had the same prejudice towards him as his father did, then again he had the other Lionel that proves he's right so I don't know, growing out of this can be a step for him to develop but having it shows how he's still very much human.
I love that both Luthors voice-act characters in the DCAU. That is all.
And one Luthor is really good at pulling fast ones...in a Flash!
@@Superlad9494 And the other Luthor is sort of... an Enigma!
@@slyc5920 Now that's a Riddler...also a third Luthor in the DCAU stylized, but unrelated Brainiac Attacks film regularly engages in Gorrilla Warfare.

Personally, Smallville is my favorite Superman & the most powerful version of Superman ever adapted. Smallville is a classic, not perfect, but still a classic.

That opening theme is definitely shonen worthy.
The green arrow on both shows was just Green batman
Ollie's kinda always been Batman in Daylight wearing a Robin Hood suit though...the only real difference? Ollie can be Batman on a Budget.
@Superlad9494 the main difference is attitude the smallville and arrow versus green arrows copy batman brooding attitude, while the source green arrow is more of an adventurer type
@@dannybowers4133 Green Arrow was introduced in More Fun in the same issue as Aquaman (Adam Waterman), but even when he did carry over into Adventure alongside Adam (for a few months before the switchover to have Arthur show up alongside Topo and going the Diana, Clark, Bruce & Dick route for Ollie & Roy in the Silver Age), they Adam West-ifyed Ollie too...for synergy.

Okay, so I cannot believe that I am going to waste a comment defending that plotline but Davis was a victim of Kryptonian scientists who could not control his abilities. He only killed (and he specifically killed dangerous criminals) individual people in order to stop Doomsday from coming out and going on a rampage. Chloe and Davis argued that sending him to the Phantom Zone was less humane than killing him because he would be banished to a prison dimension forever, forced to give into his Doomsday persona. Now granted, Chloe's alternative of just staying with him had some major holes in it, especially after he kidnapped Jimmy and Oliver.
Nah, send him to the Phantom Zone while you figure something out. Hell, Chloe can go with him to the PZ if she's so concerned about it, then Clark can figure out that Black K can separate him, use it in the PZ and that's it. Chloe taking the crystal away and not giving another option other than being in the run with Davis was insane as hell. At least in the PZ he wouldn't hurt others.
@@ThePunisherSpider The one problem with your plan is that in this version of the Phantom Zone, Clark does not have his powers. So the second Clark split Davis and Doomsday, Doomsday would kill him. Also, again in this version, you cannot just pull someone out. You need to go in and get them which is what Clark did for Kara which was how Faora escaped and triggered Doomsday in the first place.
Look, from a purely pragmatic standpoint, sending him to the Phantom Zone made the most sense. But Chloe was right about one thing, it would have been more humane to just kill Davis.
@@henrypeters5291 , Davis is a human being that can only remain human through black kyrptonite whereas Doomsday is a threat to humanity, so if Chloe wanted Jimmy alive then she should've used the black kyrptonite first on Doomsday and banished Doomsday to the Phantom Zone, so yes Chole is more at fault than Clark.
@@RoronoaZoro-ur6hr First, greetings fellow One Piece Fan. Second, I do not know who to blame for the last second black kryptonite inclusion. On the one hand, the writers retconned what Black Kryptonite can do in the show on the other hand, the fact that it took Clark weeks to think of it as a solution is also ridiculous.

My reaction to watching this show without reading almost any Superman comics was like : who the f##$ is Lana, Chloey and Pete ? And also, why both Clark parents are so hot ? 😂😂😂
I liked the first five seasons! Those felt more like a genuine prequel to Superman. The later seasons were pretty much Superman on a budget
season 10 was actually pretty good
Too bad Allison Mack was creepy in real life

Smallville was GOATED

First time I watched smallville was actually recently. I went over to my friend’s place to visit, he was kinda busy with work and cooking but I ended up staying up watching the show with his brother in law, at some point he came out of his room in the middle of the night and asked “are yall still watching smallville?”
Smallville is a classic
I think the best way to describe my feelings on Smallville is like this. The show has a ton of great ideas, I just don't like the premise. This is 10 seasons of a Superman origin story and I don't think it really needed to be that long. Honestly, show probably should've ended at Season 4 when Clark graduates high school and if they really wanted to continue the story after that just make him Superman, there is no reason to drag this origin out for 6 more seasons, especially when you're bringing in other heroes and villains from across DC. Clark is a founding member of the Justice League but he isn't Superman, Clark battles Darkseid but he isn't Superman, Clark is set to marry Lois but he isn't Superman, Clark battles Doomsday but he isn't Superman, and Jimmy Olsen dies before Clark is Superman.
bro out here trolling us
bro was about to bait me
was ready to rage like crazy
and the funny thing is I'm currently rewatching smallville
The only thing I hated about Smallville was the meteor freak of the week format for the first 3 or 4 seasons. Even though I liked seeing Clark's journey to becoming Superman, I was a bigger fan of Lex and Lionel. Their characters were the most interesting ones because both were evil but could find redemption. Lex started out good but went evil while Lionel was the opposite. There were decent villains once they started using comic book characters and it was fun to see who they'd bring on the show next. Smallville isn't my favorite show but it's in my top 5 for sure.
I have complicated feelings towards Smallville. I love the premise of focusing more on Clark Kent before he becomes Superman, especially during his teen years. Having once-a-week villains/problems in a small town in Kansas is a genius idea for a weekly show. And the highlight surprisingly comes from the Luthors, especially between Lex and Lionel. Witnessing Lex's turn to evil was very well handled and almost perfection.
But where the complications come in is its later seasons during and after Season 5. Sure, I like that Clark and his friends were no longer in high school, but the formula was becoming stale and cliched in Season 5 because there was clearly a sense that something needed to change, and they never truly did act on it. The closest we came was when Clark revealed his secret to Lana, but they quickly reversed it through time-travel, and I hated it.
Either kill off Lana or go all the way with her knowing about his secret. Let them have a healthy relationship without any secrets between them when it was more risky to do so. The moment they had Clark reveal his secret to her, that was playing a card that would only work once. Because once they did it again in a different way during Season 6, it didn't have the same impact. That was the moment when I realized that the show didn't have the guts to change things up until it became safer to do so later.
Don't get me wrong, I like Seasons 6 & 7 for some of the risks that they do take with the show, but there was always a sense that they were holding back because they knew the show was more than likely going to be renewed and didn't want to progress things too far. But even then, it still felt like a large shadow that made it difficult to enjoy the show by that point, especially in the final three seasons. Not to mention a lot of plotlines and developments that either were forgotten about, retconned, or did not have a satisfying conclusion.
And I know I'll get some hate for this but I am not a fan of Clark and Lois in this show. I do not hate them, they're tolerable in terms of other romances I've seen from the CW. But I always felt that Clark and Lana had more chemistry and build up between them in the first 5 seasons. Seasons 6 - 8 on the other hand, maybe not so much. And to be honest, I would have been okay with a universe where Clark doesn't get with Lois.
I know I'm making it sound like I hate the show, but I don't. It's just complicated because I see the true potential that it never truly reached, and it's one of those things where that's just how it is. Smallville was made in a very different era of the superhero genre and it did the best it could in that time-period. It still holds a special place in my heart.
You should check out the Smallville Season 11 comics, they completely fix the whole Lex mind erasure problem and make it so much more interesting at least for me.
Oracle in a sense, she basically was so was felicity in arrow. Think about it. Arrow was basically Batman series
Don’t get disrespect CW arrow again, he is goated
He's just batman absolutely nothing like Green Arrow
Many people looks at the Crisis cameo and think Smallville Clark is ruined and it's the end of the road. I've never thought of it like that. Clark lost his powers multiple times during the show but he eventually got it back. Whatever he did to lose his powers in Crisis might not be final. It could be just a phase in his life when he is trying to be a great father for his kids just like how Jonathan was for him. Call it paternity leave if you will. There is indeed a band of superheroes who watch over the people. And Clark wouldn't let them down if they faced an enemy only Superman could defeat. This time his family takes priority. And considering he will outlive all of them, it's understandable he would like to spend some time with them before that happens. But the future Dr. Fate and the Legion talked about can still become a reality.
In my opinion what they could have they could’ve handled Tom Wellings cameo so much better in crisis maybe instead of giving up his powers, he could have just put a little blue piece of blue kryptonite in his dad‘s watch that he’s wearing so it can temporarily take away his powers then when he needs to be Superman he can
WAIT dean Winchester actor was playing in Smallville and i had absolutely no memory of him despite watching this show? 😮😮😮 Oh my god
He played the football coach that Lana briefly dated.
One thing i must say, if Aquaman and Green Arrow where short on fans at that time this show for sure give them some. Hot damn ! 🔥🔥🔥🥵

The show honestly had some of the best casting. Lex, Lionel, Johnathan, Martha, Lois, Jimmy, all felt perfect.
Like, the only thing I remember disliking in that was how people talked about how great Lana Lang was when she really didn't do jackshit to deserve that reputation. But she wasn't BAD.
That's it, really. No notes.

My biggest problem was how they treated the show as if Clark was superman, but he wasn’t.
Also the lana needed to be gone after season 6.
