The reason he is the best Lex ever is because you get to see the transformation. He doesn't start off as the Lex we know. Michael takes us on the journey of him becoming the Lex we know from the movies and comics. And that is hard to do.

      No it isn’t.
Luthor was just a mad scientist, like many other cimics and radio serials used, at the time.
I think it was in Superboy comics, that the friendship angle was added to the origin story.
On Smallville, Lex is his friend, who Flores shady things, for quite awhile.
Clark has other issues, and my least favorite time of the show, was Lex and Lana’s relationship.
It just made no sense in Superman lore, but they had to have soap opera tropes, because it was a 43 minute show, on primetime cable.
I think they were fools, for not giving Micheal more money, and begging him to stay, or at least return after he did his movie, and some other stuff, to actually be the Luthor, that is the main villain of Superman.
Oddly, Lex hasn’t really been used that way for a long time now, and since the show ended, he has been written to be more relatable or less of a sociopath.

The show took a huge drop in quality after he left. The dynamic between him and Clark was the best and most interesting part of the show.
I just wish they did a better job of "turning him evil", because it felt like more of a tell dont show kinda thing where everybody just kept saying, "oh lex, youre so evil", but without any real explanation as to why.
It just kinda feels like the Star Wars sequels where there was no plan, only to just think up new stories each new season. Maybe if there had been a 5 to 7 season plan the heel turn could have been handled better.

I thought that was part of the transformation - because his father was so bad (at least in the early days), everyone projected the same expectations onto Lex, who initially tried his best to subvert that expectation by being good, but ultimately decided that if everyone told him he was evil, the he might as well do whatever he needed to do to get ahead and it wouldn't actually make anyone think worse of him, since everyone already thought he was a villain.

I had a similar thing, though not on as big a scale and certainly not like I'm as big a deal as Rosenbaum. I wanted to leave a job. There were just a lot of problems with the place. So I gave notice. I just wanted to leave. But they came with 'well let's sit down and find out what it will take for you to stay'. Well I don't want to stay, but okay, I'll give you the benefit of giving you a chance and figure up what it would take. Made a list of this needs to change, I won't be expected to pick up the slack on that, and the other thing, and included a decent, not outrageous raise. They replied with "we'll work on this that and consider the other, but no raise at all. So you'll stay?". No, I didn't want to stay anyway. YOU were trying to convince me to stay, and I gave you the bare minimum of what it would take, that YOU asked for. Took some time for myself after I left before finding another job that I started off making more than I would have IF they had given me the amount I said I'd stay for. The manager of the old job asked me if I had found another job yet. Told them yes and how much I was making and they said "Oh I was going to offer you that much to come back" and was surprised I didn't come back after I'd already left. Place closed down in less than a year. I liked to joke that it did because I left, but it was more that it closed down for the reasons I left.

I liked his Lex more than Clark. They did a good job of illustrating how Clark might be responsible for some of Lex going dark even if it wasn't intentional.

You know what... even as much as I loved his work on Smallville, and I hated that he left, knowing now about the disrespect they showed him, I think he made the right move. They did not appreciate what he gave the fans with that performance.

Longmire was great! It was like a more serious “Justified”.
Michael Rosenbaum was terrific as Lex Luthor! Him and Tom Welling were Superman and Luthor of a new generation!

      “More serious Justified…?”
Huh? Longmire was a soap opera for people who couldn’t get into Justified, which was a far better show with infinitely better leads in Olyphant and Goggins.

      @johnwells5414 17 днів тому

@ I agree, Justified was way better. I meant that unlike Longmire it had a more darkly comedic tone.

Rosenbaum was so good on Smallville that it made you forget how stupid it was that Lex Luthor was living in Smallville and was friends with Clark Kent.

I love putting principles before money. It's a good way to separate the people who only care about money. They cannot fathom someone turning down money to stand for something.
I was supposed to get a small settlement from a car accident. Some guy was driving with his dog and got distracted. He hit me by accident.
My lawyer said Child Support intervened and will have a hold on the settlement once it is settled. The money would go to my baby's mother, not me. Also, the lawyer would most likely have to be compensated by me as well, not from the settlement. I told the lawyer to drop the entire claim. I don't want that woman getting a penny from me. NOBODY GOT PAID.

He was such an awesome villain and character. I always feared for Clark because Michael always felt like such a dangerous character. You even loved his character and hated his character at different times. I think my favorite characters of the show was Michael and John Glover.

I am on a binge re watch. Even though I know better, I keep hoping to see Lex again. The legacy of Lex still drives the suspense. Cameos of future Supers is cute, but the threat of Lex is what keeps/ kept me watching.

Gene is a great Lex and captures the ego perfectly. But Michael is my favorite Lex. He nails the darker essence of Lex with just enough light at times early in the series to make you love him. While I enjoy him doing the classic Byrne business man Lex at times I wanted the genius Lex to do more tech rather than out source it.
Too bad they did go back with a counter saying he would do 6 episode for the price of a year salary on the show in the final season so we got a full Return of Lex

3:50 See, the way that story started, with all the "ohh we love you so much", I thought "The offer" was going to include "come do these 3 seasons and we'll help make that movie happen." Like, that's how you get loyalty from people.

Michael Rosenbaum will always be the best and truest Lex Luthor for me. It's hard to say this but he's even better than Gene Hackman, because he gave soooo much deph and humanity to Lex. Also, how him and Clark were the best of friends until he turned on Clark, it was just brilliant! I watched Smallville all through college. It helped during a romantic break-up too. Best TV show I will ever see in my lifetime.

I really think Rosenbaum was the best-portrayed Lex Luthor, and I hope to see an aged version of his Lex in the future.
Truly, my villain dream team would be Rosenbaum and Hamill (who is the best Joker across all media) starring in the same show (movie, TV series, video game, etc.).
