The 'Titanic' in the video was actually the English cruise ship the Queen Mary. It was retired in 1967 and is currently in Long Beach (CA) as a floating hotel + museum... Long Beach is where Iron Maiden filmed the 'Live after death' concerts 😁
This was probably one of the most mainstream and radio friendly Maiden song they have. You got the meaning Lilly, live in the moment. Too bad the video got blocked, it showed a bunch of cool shots of the band members and Eddie.
In my opinion, the solo in Wasted Years is the best rock solo ever, taking into account the "Listenability" to the general audience. Of course there are metal band out there with much better solos, technically, but they aren't universally "listenable".
One of Iron Maiden’s “thrashiest” songs is Be Quick or Be Dead, and such an underrated song too. Other recommendations are Powerslave, Stranger in a Strang Land, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and Aces High. 🤘
Most Thrasy would be from the the first two Maiden albums with Paul Dianno on vocals. It was that version of Maiden that along with motorhead and venom ispired the thrash scene in the US with Metallica at the front. Songs like Murder in the rou morgue, killers, Wrathchild, Prowler and so on. The song remember tommorrow is basically the blueprint to every Metallica ballad turned heavy during the 80s like fade to black
It's a shame the video was blocked. I love that it cycles through all the covers from back in the physical media days when every single released had to have album art. Thrashiest songs to react to would probably be Aces High, Wrathchild, Phantom of the Opera, and Powerslave all of which have great versions to be found on the Live After Death album.
'Wasted years' was a rare song by Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith in 1986 on which he wrote all the lyrics (Usually, Bruce Dickinson or Steve Harris would write lyrics to his songs) - he had a lot on his mind, apparently... Smith also wrote lyrics for 'Stranger in a strange land'... and 'Sea of madness'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘 "Wasted years" became a huge single from the 'Somewhere in time' album in 1986... but the lyrics suggest that Adrian Smith was already tired of the touring life w/ Iron Maiden... being months on tour away from his family and friends... it was taking a toll. He quit the band in 1989 and took some time off from music, but eventually returned to playing and rejoined Iron Maiden in 1999. Bruce Dickinson was also burned out on the 1984/ '85 tour and did not have any songs for 'Somewhere in time'... He wanted some acoustic songs to be on the record, but Steve Harris (bass) and producer Martin Birch said that they would not work on the album (Bruce Dickinson eventually recorded them on his first solo album 'Tattooed millionaire' in 1990).
This is the song that changed music and iron maiden for me. I listened to them, but once I heard this it made me listen to their music differently. That Adrian solo has me crying every time
Such a great Maiden song , I’ve seen them live like 4 times and they put on such a great performance every time seen them I think twice with Judas Priest 2 legendary bands such a treat. I think I’ve been to about 300 shows and artists from all genres
The album this is off of "Somewhere In Time" was my introduction to Iron Maiden. That album with songs like this literally changed my life. I had finally found "my" music instead of what radio and tv wanted me to hear.
Nostalgia with music is different then other, because you with music you relate to happy moments that happend to you. Concert, party, first kiss...etc. Others nostalgia makes you in some cases feel sad, bad, angry....etc.
Freakin amazing how in sync they are. You can hear all the instruments playing their parts perfectly while bruce blends his incredible vocals rock on 🤘
definitely my fave Iron Maiden song eva!!! their absolute best that isn't a huge lesson/production. just straight up rockin out and reflecting... this song by far and i'm not alone in this opinion.... is perfect.
I have ALWAYS said this is Maidens best song followed by Hallowed be thy name,,captured somewhere in time (same album as W.Y.,)2 minutes to midnight,Flight of Icaris,Fear of the dark,Can I play with madness?,Brave new world (original singer Paul diano-Wrathchild)
I’ve been traveling starting with music/band then the Army and now i travel as a project manager today marks a year Straight I haven’t been home….sometimes this old song hits the feels so hard I can cry….stay safe and love yourself
Lilly Jane great job with your reaction to Wasted Years from Iron Maiden . This song May be your favorite song but my favorite song is Bringing Your Daughter To The slaughter. Followed by Hallowed be thy Name
@@АлексейГзомович Children of the damned is also built on the same structure as Remember tomorrow and also very much inspired by Black Sabbaths children of the sea in chord progressions. Metallica found their major Maiden influence in Paul Di'annos Maiden not what came with Bruce. There is a reason they chose "remember tomorrow" to cover for the tribute album and they even talk about the impact of that song on the band in several interviews
Its about being on tour non-stop for 2 whole decades! Maiden is legendary as being one of the hardest working longest touring bands in metal history. This song is about coming to terms with all the time they're missing away from wifes, kids, home, etc - but at the same time if they were home instead, all the experiences, travel, brotherhood, and opportunities theyd miss not touring - and how exhausting it is to have a split life like that either way. And how they just have to embrace their choice to tour and make the most of every moment because - whether home or abroad - these are still your golden years. No room for regrets.
If you are looking for thrashy then 'Be Quick or Be Dead' or 'Iron Maiden' would be your choice here. The funny thing is that Maiden have remained icons of metal while maintaining a unique style not easily slotted into general standards.
04:36 I f You have that nostalgia then Yes I listen like Iron Maiden last 36 years again and again. first was tape cassete what Ilsten until it broke , next was CD same problem it get waved disc....
this album was a great one after the Powerslave one, but Maiden is a BEAST live though- especially the 'live after death' album... heard it when it just came out at the time, was only 16 years old... LOL 😂
Good choice. Although bein a huge Maiden fan since but it wasn't until my Fortis I truly appreciated this song. There is absolutely no point looking back on you past and dwelling on regrets and years wasted . Move forward. Look to the future.
The 2 great albums I love from Maiden is Somewhere in Time and the 7th Son. Somewhere in Time started using quality production the 7th Son album has even better quality production. Don't skip 7th Son album!!!!!!
The most "thrashy" iron maiden songs probably are "Aces High", and "Be quick or be dead". Especially the later. Due to Dickinson's operatic vocals and Harris's prog rock influences, they never crossed into thrash territory. Their music was always on the melodic side of metal. From the Dianno era on vocals, "Purgatory" and "Drifter". Although they are more punky than thrash. But they hit hard, nonetheless....
It's a great song from a great album Somewhere in Time. I recommed you to listen to Aces High, an absolute banger form their "golden years". And the most thrashy Maiden song is probably Be Quick or Be Dead from Fear of the Dark album
There are snippets of old Maiden 'videos' included in this one. Been a Maiden follower for 45 years now and their styles and delivery have changed quite a lot over the years, as they have. But the basic is still there - BritMetal at its best. There are a good couple of hundred tracks from their back catalogue for you to choose from - I'll leave that to you. Pick a few at random and see how you get on. You can't really go wrong. 😊🤘
My favourite Iron Maiden song, written by my favourite guitarist Adrian Smith. His songwriting really came to the fore during this time in Maiden’s career, not just his music but his lyrics too. His best guitar solos imo are Stranger In A Strange Land (from 1986 album Somewhere In Time, the same album as Wasted Years), The Writing On The Wall (from their newest album, Senjutsu), and this one in Wasted Years. As for thrasher Maiden songs… Iron Maiden (the original album version with their previous singer Paul Di’Anno, or live versions with Bruce Dickinson), Be Quick Or Be Dead, Futureal (with their other previous singer Blaze Bayley or there’s a live version with Bruce). That’s probably it as far as thrashy Maiden songs go, it’s not really their style. They’re more melodies and harmonies, more showy I guess. Their music delves deeper than how fast can they play or how hard can you head bang to them.
It's not just living in the moment or nostalgia it is not wasting time on your past mistakes and thinking that time was wasted. The song is about getting older and realizing that you can chose to live in the now because it is your golden years. "Face up make your stand"... it's your choice to continually regret what you did or did not do or face forward and live life from this point on.
This remains among my top 5 favorite Maiden songs, and you Get It perfectly. And that solo...damn...it's tops, all the way. As for the 'thrashiest' track of theirs...I believe you've already reviewed it, "Hallowed Be Thy Name", as though it starts off slow it drives towards a really fast & hard metal section of the song later, too...also, "The Number of the Beast" is fast, dark, and with two absolutely blistering guitar solos (also among my top 5, and the title track of the same album with "Hallowed Be..."). You REALLY need to hear that one and react. 😎🤘
I know just from being a fan and subscriber to Her Channel ( Lilly Jane) she definitely some one you love to hang out with and listen to some Kick A** music & just jive with & just want to give a hug .
After finishing the full vid, Lilly asked "what is their most thrashiest song?" Poll- how many of us would vote Aces High? It really just gets your heart kind of racing ua-cam.com/video/Xg9aQvjMS60/v-deo.html

it's funny, because this very same album has the most historical Iron Maiden song ever, Alexander the Great... you can basically listen to the song and then pass an history exam on Alexander.
There is a video on youtube of them on a show where they have to mime to this song. However they dont want to so they all start changing instuments part way through. Its a good watch. Link is below
Favourite song? Pretty much all from the live albums, but having to choose one probably 22 Acacia Avenue or Rime Of The Ancient Mariner from the Live After Death album. From A Real Live Dead One, Where Eagles Dare or Prowler.
Aces High and Powerslave are two of the heavier songs of the classic Maiden era. If you like this type of metal, check out Judas Priest next; both bands encapsulate traditional metal at it's best. But of the two, Priest have a lot more material on the thrasher side (just listen to Painkiller; you're welcome). They helped influence thrash as much as Motorhead and Venom with their 1970's output. Their third album Sin After Sin contains what could be considered some of the first thrash songs ever. That said, Wasted Years has always been one of my favorite Maiden songs. It illustrates just how brilliant this band is at being heavy and melodic at the same time.
This is my favorite Iron Maiden song. It was the first Maiden song I ever heard and spent my allowance the next day on it. Loved them ever since!
A great message
The 'Titanic' in the video was actually the English cruise ship the Queen Mary. It was retired in 1967 and is currently in Long Beach (CA) as a floating hotel + museum... Long Beach is where Iron Maiden filmed the 'Live after death' concerts 😁
Beat me to it! Live after death is a top tier live album, I prefer that version of Aces High.
This was probably one of the most mainstream and radio friendly Maiden song they have. You got the meaning Lilly, live in the moment. Too bad the video got blocked, it showed a bunch of cool shots of the band members and Eddie.
It's absolutely really dumb that their record label blocks videos when people are doing reaction videos.
@@TokusatsuGamingfan Fear Of The Dark was their most radio friendly song..

This song is part of the entire album Somewhere In Time which is based on the themes of time and place
Dang girl you made me tear up your reaction to the guitar solo. The way you described your feelings you hit it on the mark

Maiden pioneered this genre and then evolved a lot in music and lyrics.
1. Somewhere In Time
2. Seventh Son
3. Killers
4. Piece Of Mind
This song was written by Adrian Smith, who writes a different style of song!
For Thrashiest song by Iron Maiden - Be Quick Or be Dead/Aces High and 2 Minutes to Midnight and many more.
