One of the best things about this IM video is how they crammed so much into it - they got the usual elements of Eddie and the band performing, but they also treated it as a kind of "retrospect" and slipped in dozens of stills and clips of album art, video clips (from previous songs) and candid photos and videos of the band doing non-IM things in their spare time (i.e. fencing, football, etc).
Well congratulations, you’re seemingly gonna head to your first Iron Maiden concert. I’ve been lucky enough to see them 10 times. They are my favourite band of all time.
This is the exact song my Mom has me listen to, to introduce me to Metal music. I was 7-8 years old (so 22-23yrs ago), and had been listening to the “Oldies” that my parents listened to as I was growing up. So seeing you do this reaction video with your Mom was really cool to come across. Brought back a lot of good memories of me and my Mom listening to and singing music together. This is the 3rd holiday season without her. So thanks again for bringing back some awesome memories, with an awesome song. Up the Irons! 🤘🏻
Alex, Love the hype reactions, They come off as sincere, Gotta love Maiden, Even have the tattoo, Steve Harris the bassist writes just about every song, And is probably the best bassist in Metal as far as I am concerned, Just look at the guy play.... Simply incredible in every way.
I saw Iron Maiden almost three years ago, and I'm seeing them again next year...It's just something you have to live, to experience...amazing show, more than music...
Only 1 pause... because it’s too good to pause But this isn’t a newer song, it’s from 1986, the year before I was born and it’s my favourite song You definitely need to see them live if you can, they don’t half-arse their shows... the stage, the lights, the pyros, the performance... their shows are awesome
Every time Maiden comes to Sweden, me and my mom go to see them! It's our tradition and we both love the band, I first saw them live in Stockholm in june 2003 and i took my mom when they returned to Stockholm in the fall of the same year. We've been to see one of the swedish shows in all the tours except for one since then, it's our thing and the one year we missed it was a fluke that's never happening again as long as they keep touring and we're still alive!
Every time I hear this song, I know I have the same look in my eyes as your mom. This song takes me back to the day and makes me reminisce about the good times back in high school. ✌
Thank you very much, iron maiden wasted years is such an epic song and such a wonderful band, such a beautiful song and Adrian Smith's solo is just fantastic . can't believe this album came out in 1986.
I love seeing how people that didn't hear Iron Maiden before turn into fans. :) It's even not about this music being heavy metal or not, it is just very, very beautiful. You absolutely need to watch them live, they're coming to US with their Legacy of the Beast Tour this year. They've been with this tour in Europe last year and I've been to one of the shows last summer. It is one of the greatest tours they've done EVER. Ohhh, I wish I could see it once again!

Hello Mom ! I appreciate, Iron Maiden IS indeed the Greatest Band Ever Played On Earth. Period. I fell in love with Iron Maiden autumn 1983 and there has been no slowing down, although I´m 48 now and 13 back then. You just can tell when the right one is found. Say hello to the Grandmother walking in and out in the background. I think she was the one who told you, Mom, that you should listen to something else, like my mother did back then. How amazed she was, when I told him that I was in their concert this summer, 35 years after she told me, that they were Satan worshippers etc. Now she knows, that they are just some great musicians bringing joy to the world.
I'm in H-town too. Great react. Loved your mom's take. Kudos! I did get to see Iron Maiden, when I was 18, in Lakeland, FL in 1985, Quiet Riot opened. They both sounded exactly the same on stage as on record. It was a great concert. In the intermission... purple (haze) fog hits the stage and Dave Murray comes out and starts playing the Star Spangled Banner ala Hendrix. Bruce jumps up and lowers the Union Jack flag flying high over Trooper Eddie and raised the American Flag.... the place went nuts!! It was awesome.
Alex: Dood. Ask mom. She knows the answer: "If it's too loud, you're too old!" Bruce Dickinson is Iron Maiden's greatest lead singer. (Paul Di'Anno was their first lead singer, who recorded their debut album Iron Maiden, and on their 2nd album, Killers, and Blayze Bailey briefly replaced Bruce while Bruce got his commercial pilot's license, amongst other things.) And now they have 3 guitarists instead of the 2 that they probably had back when mom likely started listening: Adrian Smith Dave Murray, the longest consistent guitarist for Iron Maiden. Janick Gers, who replaced Adrian Smith. When both Bruce and Adrian Smith returned to the fold in 1999, instead of kicking Janick to the curb, they kept him as 3rd lead guitarist. Steve Harris is the bassist and primary song writer and originally formed Iron Maiden with Dave Murray. (Bruce and Adrian often write together, too. However, Adrian Smith wrote both singles "Wasted Years" and "Stranger in a Strange Land" on Somewhere in Time. Somewhere in Time followed 1984's Powerslave, in 1986.) Nicko McBrain plays drums and has for all except the first 2 Iron Maiden albums. Annette, don't hate me, I saw Iron Maiden on their Powerslave tour in either late 1984 or early 1985 in Portland Maine while my ship the USS DEYO (DD989) was in the Portland Naval Shipyard. (They played 331 shows on that tour.) Think I told you this story previously, Alex, so apologies if I'm repeating myself, but since I'm a Southern California boy born and raised, now living in Prescott, Arizona, how the heck did I wind up in Portland, Maine? I was all east coast stationed in the Navy. My ship DEYO was in drydock in Portland for a refit and to have 2 Tomahawk missile launchers mounted on the deck of the forecastle. Either side of our ASROC missile launcher but behind the 5" 54 caliber gun mounted toward the front of the forecastle. Anyway. Met bassist Steve Harris at McDonald's where I stopped to grab dinner before the concert. I honestly have forgotten if Iron Maiden even had an opening band, the Powerslave stage setup was so massive it would have had to suck for another band to open for them.☺ I honestly don't think they did. I believe it was just them. And I saw so many concerts at that arena in Portland. So there may have been an opening band and I have since forgotten. It's been at least 34 years ago, dood. I'm glad mom liked this song. I wonder how close she and I are age wise...? I'm 57 will be 58 next month. (01/27/1961) Graduated high school class of '79. (Just curious is all. Not trying to hit on her. That would not be cool of me.) Ladies don't usually divulge their age but your mom is cool enough to love both Iron Maiden AND Led Zeppelin, so she's very cool indeed, dood.☺ The apple does not fall far from the tree, since you got YOUR cool from your cool mom, obviously.☺ (And Annette is definitely younger than MY mom, who would have turned 83 last month, except she passed, one month after her 80th birthday, at the end of December 2015.) Guessing that was grandma shuffling by in the background and she might have made the unexpected crashing noise?😉 Obviously, you were at mom's or grandma's house, because it definitely did NOT look like your place, dood. (Grandma is probably closer to what would have been my mom's age, I'm guessing?) UP THE IRONS! \m/
* *Todd* * You failed to mention Dennis Stratton, guitarist on Maiden's 1st LP. Adrian Smith replaced him when the Killers LP was recorded. - And how dare you omit the 3 great albums Clive Burr drummed on!!!!! Nicko is good, don't get me wrong.
Reason I said it was a “newer song” was because the video for it dropped three years ago on UA-cam. My mistake. 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Yeah I just thought of that! It was released in 1986!

For “newer” Iron Maiden try “where the wild wind blows”
Amazing song
How can you not cry at the end of that one.
Also the red and black, love that one too. There's also the Judgement of Heaven and also the angel and the gambler, but those 2 are older xd
Well congratulations, you’re seemingly gonna head to your first Iron Maiden concert.
I’ve been lucky enough to see them 10 times. They are my favourite band of all time.
I subbed because your mom is an OG Iron Maiden fan. Up the Irons!!
Funny fact, Bruce Dickinson is now 61, he still sounds godlike while singing 😃😄.
Alex, Love the hype reactions, They come off as sincere, Gotta love Maiden, Even have the tattoo, Steve Harris the bassist writes just about every song, And is probably the best bassist in Metal as far as I am concerned, Just look at the guy play.... Simply incredible in every way.
wasted years isnt one of their newer songs, their newer songs is like from the "brave new world" album and onward
And Brave new world is already 18 years old :-)
@@grindmaster7433 but i still consider it their newer stuff because they havent changed their style that much since the release of that album
I saw Iron Maiden almost three years ago, and I'm seeing them again next year...It's just something you have to live, to experience...amazing show, more than music...
Only 1 pause... because it’s too good to pause
But this isn’t a newer song, it’s from 1986, the year before I was born and it’s my favourite song
You definitely need to see them live if you can, they don’t half-arse their shows... the stage, the lights, the pyros, the performance... their shows are awesome
Faith no more - epic
And after Epic all the other epic ones 👍🏼😃
Falling to pieces 👍👍
Ashes to ashes
Every time I hear this song, I know I have the same look in my eyes as your mom. This song takes me back to the day and makes me reminisce about the good times back in high school. ✌
One of my favorite Iron Maiden songs! P.S. your mom needs a raise! MOM HYPE!
Thank you very much, iron maiden wasted years is such an epic song and such a wonderful band, such a beautiful song and Adrian Smith's solo is just fantastic . can't believe this album came out in 1986.
Your mom knows good music. Listen to her. But......this song came out in 1986. I was a junior in high school.
U know her mind is running through the 80s right then 😍
Great vid u look just like her lol cheers
LOVE!!!!!..... I am 51 yrs old... from my teens To now my mom would sit and listen to any new band I discovered ... always open minded and interested.. from Maiden-Bad Brains-Neko Case....and on... your Mom is a Gorgeous person... a TREASURE !

Awesome reaction. It’s great to see you and your mom truly enjoying yourselves and the song.
I finally got to see Iron Maiden live a few years ago. Best concert I’ve ever been to. I hope you get to see them live. You’ll have a blast.
Aww.
So cute.
She is so much cooler and smooth than you, brah!
Yep....one of my favorite songs from Maiden. Rock On!! My son and I already got our tickets for the September show, cant wait!
Kissing the Shadows - Children of Bodom
Yes! Old CoB all the way!
Yes
Um YES
Yeees
Trying to get this one's popularity up
such a good song. love this song
lol was that grandma in the bakground? I want to see her do reactions!
Maiden is indeed the greatest metal band. You should do some of their newer songs .
I noticed that too! Make her react to something! Take it easy though :P
😂 then we’ll have mini Hefner in 8 years doing reactions
Saw that too and that was a classic lol moment
Grandma secretly likes Cannibal Corpse.
Should have just had grandma come up at the end and throw devil horns to the camera. Full circle, since Ronnie James Dio said he got the devil horns from his Italian grandma when she was hexing someone. LOL \m/ \m/
I had the privilege of seeing them with my son. I flew him into Detroit from Walla Walla, WA and I drove to Detroit from Baltimore Maryland. As you can see I got to get a some pics of Ed Force One. Awesome show. Awesome time with my son at the Palace of Auburn Hill.
dang did eddie walk through the background?at 8:00 mins in?
I lol'd.
So funny. My thought exactly.
Lmmfao! I thought the same thing. Up the Irons!
Nah looked like an old white haired dude to me. Probably his father.
lol brilliant
It is GREAT you chose this song to react with your mother. You love each other, don't forget to tell before it is too late . Do things now because the tommorrow you are dreaming of might never happen is also the meaning of this song. It is part of an album called " somewhere in time"....
Children of Bodom - Kissing the Shadows
Children of Bodom - Angels don't Kill
Children of Bodom - Warheart
Sabaton - Primo Victoria
Sabaton - Carolus Rex
Thx friends... this is Iron Maiden, this song is the soul of this band....
A Fan since 1980....damned i'm old..lol
And i not forget.... happy Christmas & New Year from France to your family
Let's Rock !!!
If your Mother liked Iron Maiden when she was 25. ..she had to know this song!
I do not believe this
This is their most famous song!
From the 80 s!!!!
8:02 was that eddie in the background?
You killed meeee😂😂😂
Noooo dude, it's so wrong! But i liked it! lol
Alex:
Dood.
Ask mom.
She knows the answer:
"If it's too loud,
you're too old!"
Bruce Dickinson is Iron Maiden's greatest lead singer.
(Paul Di'Anno was their first lead singer, who recorded their debut album Iron Maiden, and on their 2nd album, Killers, and Blayze Bailey briefly replaced Bruce while Bruce got his commercial pilot's license, amongst other things.)
And now they have 3 guitarists instead of the 2 that they probably had back when mom likely started listening:
Adrian Smith
Dave Murray, the longest consistent guitarist for Iron Maiden.
Somewhere in Time followed 1984's Powerslave, in 1986.)
Nicko McBrain plays drums and has for all except the first 2 Iron Maiden albums.
Annette, don't hate me, I saw Iron Maiden on their Powerslave tour in either late 1984 or early 1985 in Portland Maine while my ship the USS DEYO (DD989) was in the Portland Naval Shipyard.
(They played 331 shows on that tour.)
Think I told you this story previously, Alex, so apologies if I'm repeating myself, but since I'm a Southern California boy born and raised, now living in Prescott, Arizona, how the heck did I wind up in Portland, Maine?
I was all east coast stationed in the Navy.
My ship DEYO was in drydock in Portland for a refit and to have 2 Tomahawk missile launchers mounted on the deck of the forecastle.
Either side of our ASROC missile launcher but behind the 5" 54 caliber gun mounted toward the front of the forecastle.
Anyway.
Met bassist Steve Harris at McDonald's where I stopped to grab dinner before the concert.
I honestly have forgotten if Iron Maiden even had an opening band, the Powerslave stage setup was so massive it would have had to suck for another band to open for them.☺
I honestly don't think they did.
Graduated high school class of '79.
(Just curious is all.
Not trying to hit on her.
That would not be cool of me.)
Ladies don't usually divulge their age but your mom is cool enough to love both Iron Maiden AND Led Zeppelin, so she's very cool indeed, dood.☺
The apple does not fall far from the tree, since you got YOUR cool from your cool mom, obviously.☺
(And Annette is definitely younger than MY mom, who would have turned 83 last month, except she passed, one month after her 80th birthday, at the end of December 2015.)
Guessing that was grandma shuffling by in the background and she might have made the unexpected crashing noise?😉
Obviously, you were at mom's or grandma's house, because it definitely did NOT look like your place, dood.
(Grandma is probably closer to what would have been my mom's age, I'm guessing?)
UP THE IRONS! \m/
toddvandell85 Nicko didnt play on the first 3.
I love grandma sneaking passed in the background
