Fun fact: Iron Maiden has not used tour buses in a long, long time. Bruce Dickinson, the singer, is a licensed pilot type rated on multiple airliner-sized jets and he flies the band and crew from place to place while touring. The had a Boeing 757 for years, but upgraded to a 747 a few years back. The jet is known as "Ed Force One"! So cool.

Not anymore he had his ticket pulled by the FAA and the British FAA which is about right as most of the major airlines force retirement at 60 and Bruce is now 65 yrs. That is what I heard not sure if it is true.

About Iron Maiden being dadrock: Bruce says their fanbase is like plywood. Every year a new layer forms and it all sticks together. That is true, they keep building layers of fans of all ages.
My sons are 9 and 5 years old. They think Maiden is music for moms because I like them so much 😂 my 5 year old likes them too, so here's to another layer: up the irons 🤘

@@amyballard2495 When was your first concert? Mine was the Peice of Mind tour in 83' in Seattle which is about an hour from Tacoma where I live and I still remember the fun me and my 3 buddies had trying to get home from that concert (my buddies older brother ditched us) in the middle of the night that night. Let's just say a little mischief and a few cops were involved lol. But still the third best concert ever after Deep Purple Perfect Strangers tour and AC/DC's flick of the switch tour and that one only because someone shot off a flair gun and set the Tacoma Domes wooden roof on fire and while they were clearing people out AC/DC started playing This House is on Fire.

Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills. It's about English settlers from England taking away land from Native Americans and the Native Americans fighting to keep their land. A British band writing a song about American history, imagine that?

      @azzajames7661 3 місяці тому +5

They sing about United States Cavalry as they are doing their galloping on the Plains. They say white-man came across the sea, so they are talking about Europeans, not just the British/English/scottish/welsh/irish people.

I guess it depends on the age you are when you first hear them. I love all of their music from the different eras and it’s good to see them still toucans recording.
Lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, is an author, public speaker, high level competitive fencer, cancer survivor, and airline pilot along with his work with Iron Maiden and a solo career. He actually pilots the band’s own plane while on tour.

Nailed it, BP! Adrian Smith wrote this song about being on the road, and missing home. My favorite IM song - came out in '86, I believe. Bruce Dickinson (lead singer) is an Olympic-level fencer, in addition to all the other things he excels at. I urge you yet again to watch the documentary "Flight 666" - not necessarily as a reaction, but to give yourself a broader understanding of the band and their fans.

    "So understand
Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years
    Face up, make your stand
Realize you're living in the golden years"
The chorus' lyrics to me aren't about "not wasing time", they're a life lesson about the fact that you should not keep sulking about the past feeling you've lost time, but you should live in the present, "Make your stand" and do what brings you happiness, because the present will always be your "golden years". The guy on the left nailed it in the end of this vid

Firstly , Iron Maiden are not satanic, they have written on the subject, like many other good VS evil subjects, They are story tellers and even act some songs out in costumed theatrics.
This song wasted years I would consider a power ballad. It's one of their more mellow songs, and the lyrics are pretty straight forward.
I recommend you stay with the Maiden train...it puts a smile on your face!
Try reacting also to Fear of The Dark / Run to the Hills / 2 Minutes 2 Midnight / Brave New World / Chains of Misery / Book of Souls

What could have been a toss-off song from the biggest heavy metal band in the world has endured and really taken a place among their songs as one of the most profound, honest efforts of their career. A bit more listenable, still with the distinctive fire they always brought. Definitely holds up well nearly 40 years later. My daughter is 16, this is one of her favorite songs, I've taken her to see Maiden twice, when she was 9 and 13. They were my first concert at age 15 in 1984. I wouldn’t say Maiden is “dad rock” but they are amongst the peak of classic heavy metal bordering on power metal before sub genres were defined. With them you’ll find the pioneers of the genre in bands like Judas Priest or the god among men Ozzy/Sabbath. If you really want to see the roots definitely check out solo Ozzy Osbourne or Black Sabbath (their debut was 1970 so they predate all the metal you’ve listened to and laid the foundation for all of those bands)

Unsure if you've mentioned up til this point, but the "Mummy/Skull" is their mascot Eddie. He makes appearances on the cover of every album as a different version to meet the themes of the album. And makes appearances on stage as a 10 ft tall version and has battles with Bruce the singer, whether a sword fight or gun fight.

You really should check out "The Clairvoyant". It's an amazing song and one of my favorite Iron Maiden tunes. If Maiden is "Dad Rock", then today's Metal is "Punk-Ass, Wasted Talent" music.

Iron maiden, honestly it's best a live performance or just lyrics video, cause the actual music and lyrics itself is the heart of Iron maiden, I mean their an older band, not much music videos back then lol.
Just listen and know the lyrics 😉

managed to get to see them last year, still performing and still bringing it. There is such a discography that you could choose from - and believe me it will take you a while to get through it all. Nicko at 71 is still performing even though he suffered a minor stroke at the start of the year.

You both are soooo crazy happy guys!!!!!!!!. Greatings from ibach-schwyz, switzerland, where the victorinox knives were manufactured. That's nice, you know nothing about iron maiden, the first album came out 1979, called off course iron maiden. I know that, because music is my totally passion since over 50 years. You should know, that i was music, film and gamesaler for over 30 years. I know Bands, for example Hölderlin and satin whale from germany. Check out this two bands. G
For example try tool, a band from san Francisco. I like, that you enjoy rock, i guess your favourite music rap and hip hop. Bye from a nearly 63 old zürichman.

I was 15 years old and was a huge Iron maiden fan and went to see them live in Spokane, Wa. in 1988. This was still during the time of the Satanic panic. Gun and Roses opened for them and Iron Maiden played an incredible show. Needless to say, I was on cloud nine leaving the arena having just seen my musical heroes. As we are leaving, a bunch of religious fanatics had setup a stage with banners and PA, telling us to repent from Satan and this devil music. I just thought too myself yall have no clue what this band was about and so quick to judge. Iron Maiden are great story tellers of history and literature, They are a very well educated band that liked to put on a theatrical performance for their fans and I was very thankful to have experienced their music.

This video is so good. I love that this song is inspiring people all these years later. It truly is their best and my all-time favorite song EVER. UP THE IRONS! Also the reason it has that 80's sound is because Tom Sholz, founder and the main songwriter and guitarist from the band Boston, is also an engineer and back in the early 80's he founded a company called Sholz Research & Design to sell his tech. He developed a guitar distortion rack effect unit called a Rockman that had special distortion and chorus sounds. Initially designed for use on his bands albums he sold this tech to a lot of other bands. SO many that you ended up having that sound on a ton of popular and highly-influential albums. Some of those albums include Def Leppard's Hysteria (Pour Some Sugar On Me), ZZ Top's 'Eliminator' (She's Got Legs) and Afterburner (Planet Of Women), and of course Iron Maiden's Somewhere In Time which this song is off of.
The Rockman along with units like the Eventide harmonizer became ubiquitous on rock and metal albums of the era. It wasn't until Eddie Van Halen helped develop the Peavy 5150 amplifier in the early 90's that the sound of modern rock would shift. By that time you had amps like the Mesa Boogie rectifier (used most famously on Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power album) and others making it so rock and metal began to have a wider variety in guitar sounds.
