Deep Purple was my first rock concert and favorite band I convinced my Mom to take me and 3 friends to the Houston Astrodome which was fairly new and 100 miles away I was 13 years old epic still one of the greatest shows I've ever seen 50 years ago it held the record for the loudest indoor concert at the time maybe still

My uncle was a huge fan of DP and died far too young at 51. One of his requests for his funeral was that this song would be played. What he didn't know was that the church organist also was a fan of DP. He played the best version of this song I've heard on the church pipe organs with the church choir doing the "Oooooh" parts. I've been to a few epic concerts in my life but nothing can ever top that. He even did the guitar solo at the end on those pipes! If you're imaging something epic: Quadruple that. I just wish he was there to hear it! I already loved the song and the band before this, but that experience just made it one of the most special songs of my life.
Deep Purple is considered one of the three "Godfathers" of Rock/Metal... along with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. They are a truly extremely talented band that made a LOT of great music and influenced a LOT of future bands! Try their "Smoke on the Water" next, and others to consider... in no particular order - Highway Star - Woman from Tokyo - Space Trucking - Burn - Hush - Perfect Strangers I could go on...
This was their most requested song for years, but Ian Gillan (singer) has said that he had to stop singing it live because it took such a toll on his voice.
I think it was the booze and fags that ruined his vocal range. His falling out with Richie got much worse as Richie insisted they did this song despite Ian's voice!
A brit named Fil insinuated Blackmore was pushing Ian to sing it perpetually and Ian's vocal chords were damaged. Blackmore, in hindsight, disliked Gillan and didn't care.
@sharonelliott2366 Fil carefully worded this to avoid trouble from Blackmore. Gillan suffered audible vocal chord damage as early as a 1971 performance- to Blackmore's delight.

By far the most emotional reaction. So sincere. I was in my early twenties by this time. We were the lucky generation, music-wise. The dark side was the Vietnam War, but that is a completely different subject.
Music from my youth. Music in my old age. Real music. Simply magnificent music. How can I EVER thank the musos of those days for the joy and pleasure they have given me over so many years. The world will NEVER see such a beautiful age ever again. I'm immensely thankful that I lived in that age.
One of the forefathers of Heavy Metal! Gillan on vocals inspired so many Metal vocalists, Blackmore on guitar the riff master, inspired multiple generations of future shredders, Lord on the keyboards untouchable legend. What a band, live were incredible, just magical!
Ian Gillan is incredible. One of my all time favorite singers. He was also in Black Sabbath for the album Born Again. Awesome album. Zero The Hero crushes.🤘
Thank you Lilly Jane! Ian Gillian is such a great vocalist. They remain on of my favorite bands. "Highway Star" "Space Truckin" "Lazy". Some good ones. Thanks again Lily Jane. Loved your reaction to this song!
One of the greatest album of all time has to be Deep Purples Made in Japan. Released in 1972. Pure gold all the way. I was nine years old at the time and i still listen to that album😊 Some fifty odd years of goosebumps.
THE BEST REACTION, or at least the real understanding of this song. Indeed, this is a song about the war and the people crying for their children, for the innocent persons death by the war. I really love your reaction, you are a very sensitive person, this is a great song, maybe one of the most beautiful compositions by Deep Purple. But there are more than only sadness, there is also good and happy feelings by this great band, I recommend you to react to some other great songs like HIGHWAY STAR, LAZY, and STRANGE KIND OF WOMAN from their live album called MADE IN JAPAN from 1972. Thank you, it was a pleasure to watch you react through the entire song, your face, your eyes, your arms moving were so special. Thank you again.
I grew up in that golden age and bands appeared like super novas(but they didnot die like them) in the music scene. The freedom we had at that time(in europe)was incredible. When I think about it and see the current world I could cry but it's good to have memories.
This was 1970 when Deep Purple (w/ new vocalist Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover) were re-introducing themselves as a hard rock band... Initially, Deep Purple was founded in 1968 as a pop rock band comprised of studio pro musicians and got some success w/ cover songs like - 'Hush' ... 'Kentucky woman'... But after hearing the music of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin by 1969, the band wanted a heavier sound. Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) wanted Deep Purple to record 'heavy' music and enlisted Ian Gillan (vocals) and Roger Glover (bass) to the band w/ founding members Jon Lord (organ/ keys) and Ian Paice (drums) and their 4th studio album 'In rock' in 1970 launched the band as one of the pioneers of the heavy metal/ hard rock genre, alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. This line-up in the 70's delivered the iconic albums - 'Fireball' (1971)... 'Machine head' (1972)... 'Who do we think we are' (1973)... as well as the stellar live album 'Made in Japan' (1972) Unfortunately, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's demanding & unpredictable personality led to difficulties and tensions within the band... it created quite a few line-up changes... Ian Gillan and Roger Glover were replaced in 1974 by David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass + vocals) and Deep Purple got even bigger w/ the albums 'Burn' and 'Stormbringer' in '74. However, Ritchie Blackmore ended up leaving Deep Purple in 1975 and formed the band Rainbow w/ singer Ronnie James Dio... Deep Purple hired Tommy Bolin (guitar) for 1 album ('Come taste the band') in '75... but fans were not interested in the band without Blackmore on guitar... Deep Purple split up by 1976 and guitarist Tommy Bolin soon passed away from an OD. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is considered one of the greatest composers and guitar players... but he could also be difficult, uncompromising and unpredictable w/ his moods... When he was good, no one could come close to his brilliance onstage... However, if he wasn't happy, he would be awful and erratic while playing... When he had his band Rainbow between 1975 and 1984, Blackmore went through quite a few members, include 3 vocalists... One example would be the 1993 live concert video 'Come hell or high water' by Deep Purple, where he was upset w/ a cameraman's position onstage and refused to play half the first song... then, he proceeded to dump water on him while the band played... Keyboardist Jon Lord recalled that he worked hard that night just to get Blackmore to play and engage w/ the band onstage... Blackmore was clearly not happy in Deep Purple and quit soon after... But that 1993 show was in sharp contrast to the brilliance that fans heard on their 1972 album 'Made in Japan. In 1984, Deep Purple reunited the classic line-up (Blackmore/ Gillan/ Glover/ Lord/ Paice) and released the album 'Perfect strangers' for a successful comeback... But the same tensions between Gillan and Blackmore in the 80's led to guitarist Ritchie Blackmore leaving Deep Purple permanently by 1993 (Blackmore currently records and tours as a semi-acoustic band Blackmore's Night w/ his wife Candace Night on vocals) Deep Purple recruited Steve Morse (guitar) in 1994 and carried on recording and touring... founding keyboardist Jon Lord amicably left the band in 2002 to work on classical music projects; Jon Lord passed away in 2012 from cancer. Don Airey (keyboards) joined Deep Purple around 2003... Guitarist Steve Morse recently left the band and was replaced in 2022 by Simon McBride (guitar)... and Deep Purple have a new album out this year titled "= 1"... w/ 2 new singles out now - 'Pictures of you' ... 'Portable door'. Some of Deep Purple's iconic songs: 'Smoke on the water' ... 'Fireball' ... 'Highway star' ... 'Perfect strangers' ... 'Black night' ... 'Burn' ... 'Soldier of fortune' ... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Been following for a while, watching someone grow up musicaly is a thing to behold, Obituary?Cancer?...etc .... don't know or really care which path you follow as long as you keep the testing wide, good on ya girl!
I've heard this song soooo many times. My 2 older brothers had a garage band in the late 60's. This is the only song they knew. I had to listen to it over and over.
Simply awesome. I was so lucky to be young and brought up in that era, so many amazing bands, lucky enough to see a good chunk of them. It was easy to do back then
Loved your reaction to this . I’m 68 now and from the UK where Deep Purple come from . They’ve had several lineup changes since the but are still touring . They are the band that got me into metal.
Absolutely love Deep Purple...second album i bought as a teenager was Machine Head. I Still have the album too. Im 66 yrs old and still turn them up loud. Blessed to have grown up with the best bands and musicians. Nothing will ever compare!!
Your beloved Lars saw them live as a child and decided to become musician for life!A few decades later he gave a fantastic speech as the one to prologue their induction at the R.N.R hall of fame. All hail mighty Deep Purple. And still going, waiting for their new album in July!
That's what all of the people that constantly give Lars shit about "not being a good drummer" or what not absolutely fail to realize. He inducted Deep Purple into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame back in April of 2016.
Your reaction reminds me of the first time I heard Deep Purple, I was a boy soprano in a choir, and to hear a heavy rock band with classical inspirations and overtones, was overwhelming.💌
Great reaction Lily. I like how you emotionally immersed yourself in this performance. Ian Gillan has a hell of voice and Richie Blackmore is a great guitarist and Jon Lord was exceptional on the keyboards. This is obviously a protest song about the war in Vietnam. Richie Blackmore went on to form the band Rainbow. Recommend next the song Highway Star
Thanks for let me see your reaction first time to listen the musik of my childhood, at this time, I do not understand the language they are singing, but feel the vibes. Thank you.
We didn't realize back then (70s)that we were growing up in a "golden age" of music and creativity.
An Era that won't ever be seen again...
60's and 70's
Das denke ich auch immer, obwohl ich musikalisch dort hängen geblieben bin...lg
Yes it was the era of creation and now it is the era of copying, no talent just copy the classics.
Fantastic performance! But also totay are existing some magical bands! Nightwish for example.

But the same tensions between Gillan and Blackmore in the 80's led to guitarist Ritchie Blackmore leaving Deep Purple permanently by 1993 (Blackmore currently records and tours as a semi-acoustic band Blackmore's Night w/ his wife Candace Night on vocals)
Deep Purple recruited Steve Morse (guitar) in 1994 and carried on recording and touring... founding keyboardist Jon Lord amicably left the band in 2002 to work on classical music projects; Jon Lord passed away in 2012 from cancer.
Some of Deep Purple's iconic songs:
'Smoke on the water' ... 'Fireball' ... 'Highway star' ... 'Perfect strangers' ... 'Black night' ... 'Burn' ... 'Soldier of fortune' ... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Deep Purple's main influence was The Vanilla Fudge
Been following for a while, watching someone grow up musicaly is a thing to behold, Obituary?Cancer?...etc .... don't know or really care which path you follow as long as you keep the testing wide, good on ya girl!
I've heard this song soooo many times. My 2 older brothers had a garage band in the late 60's. This is the only song they knew. I had to listen to it over and over.
I think this is my favorite reactions. I don't believe I've ever seen you so animated! So many great Deep Purple songs to discover.
You really drink in the music and it's meaning, amazing!
Raw emotion. .what is seriously lacking in a ton of music for awhile now.
It's why these songs are eternal, regardless of the generations.
Pure talent & great scenic presence. One of te greatest bands of all the times in the world of rock. Thanks Lilly!
Just doesn't get better than this, geez we were lucky to grow up through this time in music :)
I was fortunate to them live, although later but still incredible,my favorite hard rock band.
Saw them do this live in 1972 was 14 girst heard this in 1970
You are watching the BEST musicians that you will ever see.Guys that are the absolute best.
Yep - one of the best...
Simply awesome. I was so lucky to be young and brought up in that era, so many amazing bands, lucky enough to see a good chunk of them. It was easy to do back then
All live, no vocal trickery or autotune
Lilly ... You completely get this song.
Great job. You are wise beyond your years.
There will never be a decade again in the earths time like the 70,s when the music was just so brilliant.
In Oktober i See deep purple Live in Essen Germany i m so Happy 😎🤟🏼🤟🏼
Deep Purple is one of the most underrated bands of all time. My band teacher introduced them to me back in junior high. Phenomenal band.
Loved your reaction to this . I’m 68 now and from the UK where Deep Purple come from . They’ve had several lineup changes since the but are still touring . They are the band that got me into metal.
Better reaction I've ever seen to this great song by deep purple. Love this!
I grew up with this band .....Deep Purple forever .....
I'm from 1968, they ar build into my roots!!! :-)
@@TokusatsuGamingfan lars is my favourite drummer right after Ian Paice!
The very best of Musics , my Favoryt ...
The lead singer from Deep Purple appeared on a rave song , KLF America, what time is love!!
John Lord was born and brought up in Leicester in the centre of England, where he received a classical music education. And it sure does show! 🙂
sends shivers down my spine everytime i hear this masterpiece
Saw you reacted to this...BIG smile on my face!!!
Your reaction reminds me of the first time I heard Deep Purple, I was a boy soprano in a choir, and to hear a heavy rock band with classical inspirations and overtones, was overwhelming.💌
Music one of the few communications we had to hear the truth Love and Peace and Blessings to Everyone ❤❤❤
No autotune pure talent
I had the pleasure of seeing them live. Mind blowing.
🥱 please stop spreading misinformation, this song has nothing to do with Vietnam.
still brings a range of emotions to me after all this time and seeing your reaction to it has set them off again..
Musica .en vivo sin playback genial
Thanks for let me see your reaction first time to listen the musik of my childhood, at this time, I do not understand the language they are singing, but feel the vibes. Thank you.
Damn haven't heard of them before good ass song too
I was 10 years old and i remember like today. A song that talk about war so nice. Unbelievoble Ritchie Blackmor
Everyone in this band is an all-star musician.
